Juwesm · 02/03/2009 18:09

Wonder why no way is not bold? Anyway, you get the idea.

noway?

Juwesm · 02/03/2009 18:09

noway*

LuLuBai · 02/03/2009 18:16

Norman and Jane. Ha ha ha. V. good Lauren.

Juwesm I do remember struggling with the massage last time. I tried to enlist DH's help but he was way too easily distracted and kept veering off in the direction of other activity....

bronze · 02/03/2009 18:24

because a ragged wound actually heals better than a straight cut

LuLuBai · 02/03/2009 18:28

Yup - a natural tear is supposed to heal better. Plus you will only tear as far as you need to while a midwife with a blade may make the cut a little longer just to be on the safe side.

That said, I think there are situations when an episiotomy is probably worthwhile. Remember Puzzle's story about having to have an episiotomy because baby was crowning but not progressing for ages because she had her fists up by her cheeks.

lauren61 · 02/03/2009 18:32

all the cutting tearing stuff really freaks me out, im gona be no good with this labour shizzle!

bronze · 02/03/2009 18:34

bit late for that now

LuLuBai · 02/03/2009 18:42

Lauren it honestly isn't that bad. DD was big and all I had was gas & air and really it was fine, but you know there are loads of drugs available if you can't take it. At first it just feels like period pains anyway (or at least in my case) so you have time to work outwhether you think you'll be able to take it. Plus the body does extraordinary things. I got a strange endorphin / pleasure type rush with each contraction.

Just think - the human race would have died out ages ago if it was truly unbearable. And yet people keep having babies.

LuLuBai · 02/03/2009 18:47

Even though I've done it before and so theoretically know what to expect I am kind of looking forward to going into labour. So it really can't be that bad!

Right, I really must wrestle DD away from Charlie & Lola and into the bath. Been busily googling the prices of Phil & Teds prams. (And weighing up the merits of zingy Apple Green over sensible black. Knowing my luck DH will have changed his mind about prams by the time he gets home tonight anyway).

A new thread, was I really gone that long? And Barbarelly's babies are here. Hooray . I can't wait to find out all the details. I'm off to the old thread to catch up first and post as I go along. Laters, gas bags.

PuzzleRocks · 02/03/2009 19:12

Conker - Sorry to hear about your DH's granny. She sounded fun, I hope to be outrageous when I am elderly.

Purplemonkey - How did the physio go?

Staryeyed - I was given some pretty good tablets for the afterpains and episio discomfort. I can't remember what they were though, sory. You are perfectly entitled to ask for some.

KittyCatIsGettingFat · 02/03/2009 19:52

Yay Barbarelly!!

Sorry Nutty that dress wouldn't look right on me either... why don't you pop it on the Style threads as well?

Juwesm · 02/03/2009 19:53

Goodness, Nutty, that's some foxxxy maternity wear! Sadly, wouldn't have fit me pre-pregnancy, let alone now!

Off on another tangent:

Friend of a friend (really!) in the US was told she was putting on weight too quickly - I think she'd put on 2 stone at around 25 weeks. This does sound like rather a lot (I haven't been weighed at all so not too clear on this point!), but she was then advised to cut out carbs altogether. The general consensus at work was that this was absolute gibberish, nonsense to advise a pregnant woman to give up a food group. Any thoughts? They live in NY, not California!

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 02/03/2009 19:55

Kitty - i will, but i wanted to give my sexy ante natal bud's first refusal

minush · 02/03/2009 20:03

Hello, any room for a latecomer?
I'm 34+4 wks pregnant with my first baby, I'm living in France and beginning to worry somewhat about having a baby in a FOREIGN LANGUAGE (which I still don't speak very well).
