Sorry - should read 'put DD in the sling'

I've never put DH in the sling. Honest.

bronze · 04/03/2009 17:54

right am off to do last quick coat so I can get my bed moved tonight

woohooo

mathsmummy27 · 04/03/2009 17:56

Got some boring bottles and breast pump but also toys and games They are doing the Avent stuff pretty cheap atm.

Dammit I'm really dilated and it feels like baby will pop out every time I go to the loo! I bet I'll be the last to go though!!!

LuLuBai · 04/03/2009 17:57

GingerSarah - meant to say that baby bath is enormously cute and you should indulge if it makes you so happy just thinking about it.

I bathed DD in the washbasin with a handtowel laid down first to soften it, but to be honest she never enjoyed it that much. So I ended up getting in the big bath with her. Which she loved (and still does prefer a bath with me in there too) but I never trusted her not to be peeing in the water so had to shower afterwards. All a bit of a faff.

So get yourself that baby bucket!

LuLuBai · 04/03/2009 17:59

Maths - a couple of weeks ago my bump was low, baby's head felt like it was right in my pelvis and I did have a couple of bowel movements where I thought a baby might come too (sorry waaay TMI), but now bump is right high up again and while baby is still pushing on pelvis it's not right down in there any more.

surprisenumber3 · 04/03/2009 18:01

need some thoughts please ladies!

was out for a walk with a friend today and I had a horrible feeling in my cervix that the baby was about to drop out, really uncomfortable with a full ache all across bottom of bump. Was okay after resting but I've just felt tummy and whereas baby was right up as high as could be before, I can now only feel her to about 2 inches above belly button - where has she gone??!!

Do you think maybe she is now lying across?

I can hardly close my legs as I have loads of pressure in my pelvis and, sorry if TMI, but my down below bits feel so swollen and engorged.

I also have backache which is making me arch my bank, and the most weirdest sensation of a hand or something sweeping infront of my pelvic bone..in front!!

Wouldn't think this was my third would you!!

bronze · 04/03/2009 18:06

mine have felt swollen for a few weeks now. DH doesnt dare go near them in case he starts something off. I do seem to remember it happening the other times too though not til about 37 weeks so 4 weeks before. By the end of the day I have to get dh todish up the dinner as I feel like if I stay standing up my insides will fall out.

Finished the wall btw. I have had an unfinshed bedroom for over 4 years now so this is a major thing for me

bronze · 04/03/2009 18:07

ps I havent felt my cervix, I don't dare in case it triggers something. I'm so paranoid after last time

surprisenumber3 · 04/03/2009 18:08

I can't find mine! I asked DH to have a feel but he was too scared incase 'he met her head!'.

BoffinMum · 04/03/2009 18:09

Schulte, I went to Istanbul when DS1 was 3 months and all I took was a carrycot that fitted onto a folding pram base. He slept in the carrycot and then we used the base when we went out. That saved having to take a travel cot. You can also get handy pop up cribs for about £30 that would save on luggage as well.

mathsmummy27 · 04/03/2009 18:10

lol surprise!

surprisenumber3 · 04/03/2009 18:14

mathsmummy - is it a bit scary walking round knowing you're dilated?

I had a c/s with DS1, at 34 weeks, so never dilated, and at 36 weeks was still firmly closed with DS2. Even when my waters had gone and I was in labour with DS2 I was only 2-3 cm for ages!

Another thing I don't understand..I never had a show until I had been in labour for a while but the first thing was that my waters went, how could I not have a show when I was gushing water? always been confused about that!

Hello all No news from barberella but will let you all know when i hear. There is a chance that the babies may have to be split between hospitals so they are probably very busy and tired to night.

BabyBolat · 04/03/2009 18:29

just popping in very quickly

new thread again here

LuLuBai · 04/03/2009 18:42

BB best of luck at the awards ceremony. Have a great night out.

LuLuBai · 04/03/2009 18:44

Surprise - sorry not to have replied. Still trying to envisage what is going on, but can't quite picture it.

Could always call a midwife or your hospital and run it past them?

After posting all my suggestions of iron rich foods on here earlier I got a call from my GP this evening saying I am anaemic and need to take iron tablets.

Rats!

Pass the rusks please.

Juwesm · 04/03/2009 18:51

Evening all. Everyone appears to have been busy today!

DH's Grandma's funeral today , but was not too sad - pretty old lady who'd had a nice life, nice tributes etc. Nice to catch up with large family-in-law.

Have been asked so many times today "do you know what you're having?", "when's it due?" and "have you thought of any names?". Almost no-one has any other questions!

After specifying to DH that family to be kept in dark about home birth plan, I promptly told everyone! Supportive on the whole, FIL clearly thinks I am mad. Also, lovely midwife friend has pool we can have (cousin also has pool, but has been in garden as paddling pool for some months, so possibly not best idea). Also managed to secure borrow of birthing ball today.

We had NCT breastfeeding class yestereve. Don't think they said anything much above and beyond advice above from Boff et al. She did mention different holds (cradle, rugby-style etc) and to try switching around positions to ease mastitis. Also something called 'biological nurturing' developed by someone called Suzanne Colson. For info, if anyone interested, see here . BF counsellor gave us quite sick-making leaflet on 'Recipe for Nurturing', along the lines of 'take one baby, add hugs and kisses, sprinkle with cupfuls of love...' and so on. Perhaps once LO is here, I will not find this so stomach churning?

Questions:

Has anyone had much experience of slings/ wraps etc. I've been looking at them on littlepossums.com, but so many to choose from! I'm drawn to one of the ones that you wrap round and round yourself, but even then have have to choose between stretchy and non-stretchy. Any advice?

Gina Ford - Discuss.
(is she the devil incarnate, or is she saviour of Mums? - has anyone done a Gina? I really don't think I'm organised enough. Demand feeding sounds MUCH easier).

KittyCatIsGettingFat · 04/03/2009 18:57

Bleu - you HAVE to try the Crazy Bear Hotel near Oxford if you're looking for a deep bath... It's where DH took me for our surprise Babymoon, we had a room with an infinity bath so deep I almost went under, with an underwater light show, jacuzzi jets AND it fills up from the CEILING!!

Check out and look for the Purple Suite - i guarantee you won't regret it...

gingersarah · 04/03/2009 19:10

Lulu - oh, the irony (boom-tsh)

KittyCatIsGettingFat · 04/03/2009 19:12

Sorry Bleu just remembered about the redundancy... that hotel might be a little extravagant then, maybe next time?

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 04/03/2009 19:16

V. droll gingersarah

Ju - best not to discuss GF on mumsnet. Some years ago she succesfully sued this site after negative comments were made about her.

Why not take one of her books out of the library and see if it appeals. I didn't bother because it didn't suit me, but people do swear by her and I have a DD who aged nearly two still wakes at night .

Ooook Kitty it was the Crazy Bear you stayed at!? I must have missed that post. I've been there. Pre-DH . Less said the better....

Nutty - you are there!!!!! You OK?

bronze · 04/03/2009 19:30

JU I'm a sling user but have to run. I'll post later

KittyCatIsGettingFat · 04/03/2009 19:35

Oooh Lulu do tell... which room were you in? We movd from Cohiba to Peppermint to Purple, and it was AMAZING...

Nutty - great to hear from you! XXX Sending loads of hugs your way...
