cupcake so sorry to read about your loss. xx

I have no news - feel fine, which is both good and bad and not really anything all at the same time... Early scan on Monday tho - am 7 + 1 today

eeyore2 · 27/03/2009 10:10

Hello everyone.
I haven't posted on here for ages but wanted to say hi. Cupcake, I am so sorry to hear your news, I hope you are doing ok and getting lots of cuddles.

In answer to some of the questions on here - I have bought the Miriam Stoppard book 'Complete guide to conception, pregnancy and birth' and also on recommendation from my GP 'What to Expect When You Are Expecting'. I really don't like the 'What to Expect' book. It is so obviously American and not properly adapted for the UK - for example it says that when you go to the doctor after getting a BFP he/she will do a urine test, blood test and vaginal examination to confirm it!! Hands up anyone in the UK who has had any of that?? Am I missing alcohol? Well I think I miss the idea of it more than the reality of it. I feel slightly sad at the thought of not being able to have a beer in the stadium before a football match, or not being able to have wine with a nice meal out, but then when I get there and I am feeling sick and tired as usual I am very happy to stick with water!
Although I have had no problems like bleeding or cramping I have a scan booked on Monday when I will be 8+2. The reason for this is that I have the most incredible health insurance policy from work and so it will cost me almost nothing at all to go private, which I have decided to do. It seems that it is routine in the private place I am going to do a scan at 8 weeks, which I'm pleased about. I am very lucky in that I'm able to go for a private wing of a large NHS teaching hospital so that avoids lots of the concerns I would have had about private hospitals. So I am looking forward (very nervously) to finding out if everything is ok on Monday. I won't be able to get much done all weekend as my fingers will be tightly crossed througout!

brightonbaby · 27/03/2009 10:52

Thanks for the book suggestions, will look them up.

This morning, I walked into the bedroom where OH was having a lie-in (we work from home at the moment) and said 'You won't believe it but...' and then went completely blank. I've no idea what I was going to say and have re-traced my steps and everything.

Could this be a symptom...since I have no ms or anything else! I hope so, although I think I'd rather have ms than lose my mind.

Hope you feel better and get some reassurance southernbelle77 and cupoftea

I've begun a daily journal too. So good that you could look it up from your 1st pg, turtle23

Hope everyone has a good day.

scarlotti · 27/03/2009 10:54

Morning all

easyeggs glad to see you've put yourself back on the list - presume all is well now?

I had my mw appointment yesterday so am now booked in - I was a bit early for the booking appointment (am 8 wks today) as they normally see you at 10wks, but was too late for the hello here's your forms appt! So she's done it all and now I don't go back until 16wks! I suspect I won't see the mw much as it's not my first.
I won't get another reassurance scan now though as my area won't do them unless you've had 3 m/c. Dh and I will now have to decide whether to pay or wait 4 weeks.

Cramps wise, I get the odd twinge. Funnily enough I've been eating a banana a day and they seem to have eased so usigurke your consultant was right!

iggypiggy · 27/03/2009 11:17

oh - in terms of books - I saw a thread on here recommending book - I think they recommended one called Baby Love?

Am not buying anything until after 12 weeks tho!

BeckyBendyLegs · 27/03/2009 12:17

Hello all! You're all so chatty. I've just been in total floods down the hone to DH because the internet wasn't working. Talk about drama queen. All it was was one of the cats or children had fiddled with a wire! DH is away tonight so I think I must be doing that 'every little problem is a crisis' thing. Pregnancy hormones don't help.

Southernbelle I hope you are ok. I still get crampy feelings. I know how you feel though after having had an MC or MCs in the past it makes these few weeks of early pregnancy so hard and stressful. I'd definitely tell your DH. He'd want to know you were worrying.

I haven't bought any pregnancy books this time round. I've got this ancient Miriam Stoppard book I bought from Oxfam when I was preggers with DS1 and it was published about 20 years ago. The pictures are hilarious.

becks130 · 27/03/2009 12:33

Hi all,

I spoke to my GP who has said that there is obviously some sort of mistake with my dates as a 3 week difference is not really possible as ovulation is not going to be 3 weeks later than normal. He has said that I have to go and see him today so he can call the hospital to see what is going on and he wants to investigate the reason for this. I am really worried something is wrong, I saw the heart beat so it should be fine, I hope.

Sorry to rant, I?m just really worried as I usually have to wait weeks for an appointment and he's asked me to come in at 3pm today .

scarlotti · 27/03/2009 12:37

becks try not to worry (easier said than done I know). What dates do you have? Were your periods regular before?

beckybendy I used to have an old miriam stoppard one too - hysterical!

becks130 · 27/03/2009 12:45

I am trying to stay calm as everything did look fine and I saw a strong heartbeat, even got a pic. I suffer from PCOS so in the past my periods were very irregular but for the 5 months leading up to when I conceived they were as regular as clock work. I'm just very nervous as I was trying to conceive for over a year and I still have it in my head that somethings going to happen.

I have the newish miriam Stoppard book which is good, i had it from my pregnancy with ds.

scarlotti · 27/03/2009 13:02

becks130 my gut instinct would say your scan date is correct and maybe some of your cycles pre conception might have been annovulatory. Not knowing the details of the dates and who thinks what makes it more difficult to judge, but there are lots of explanations as to what might have been happening unseen in your body before you concieved. Your scan is a positive one, a strong hb and a little bean, so hang on to that.

NewhereHelp · 27/03/2009 13:14

becks surely it's a bit old fashioned to work on the rule that every cycle is 28 days surely?? What CD did you do the pg test?

becks130 · 27/03/2009 13:29

newherehelp I done the hpt on day 38, 12 days after I was due on. I think the Dr is concerned that little bean isn't growing very well.

chocotastic · 27/03/2009 13:30

Cupcake, I am so sorry to hear your news. I hope you are taking it easy and getting lots of support. And please don't think it will affect future attempts for a baby, there is no reason why a future pregnancy shouldn't be successful.

Sorry if I don't address all other posts, I have just managed to catch up about two weeks worth but can't remember who said what.

Here, things are ok. Nausea has been pretty constant but not getting any other symptons, not even sore boobs. But then they are tiny so maybe that accounts for that!

Got my 12 week scan on 22 April and my booking in appointment the week after on 28 April so just over three weeks to wait....

cupcake I'm so sorry to hear your news - I've been thinking of you a lot recently and was so sad when I came on here this morning and read your post. All my thoughts are with you. XX

NewhereHelp · 27/03/2009 13:35

becks if you'd done pg test at 28 then you would have reason to worry, I'm sure all is going to be ok - keep smiling and let us know how you go this afternoon x

hobnob57 · 27/03/2009 13:41

Hi guys,

cupcake I'm so sorry - please do look after yourself and have lots of Rose wine and chocolate. I found that really helped initially (before the weird hormones kicked in)

I've been away for a few days totally cracking myself up at my lack of MS. Day by day I've felt better and better and needed to eat less and less often. My boobs have shrunk and are less sore. So, after losing my composure on the phone to the MW, she managed to wangle me an early scan this morning (totally not the norm here, so I was really lucky to have such an understanding MW). I was trawling MN last night trying to find out what I SHOULD see so that I'd know immediately that things had gone wrong. I woke up this morning, looking forward to breakfast .

Anyhoo, the good news is that we saw a little white flickering heartbeat on the scan measuring 7+1, which is only a day behind what I thought I was. I still can't take it in that I can feel this well and still be pg! I'm finding it hard to trust that everything is still ok and not on the downturn, but will allow myself a smile today. Dratted mmcs - they really mess with your brain.

The sonographer was the nicest one I've ever met. She even showed me ovarian cysts (measuring within normal range) and a blood pool under the placenta which is like a 'bruise' and she said could be completely normal or may cause a bleed later on. Most helpful.

hobnob57 · 27/03/2009 13:42

Forgot to say, EDD now 13th Nov.

Hope everyone else is having a good Friday!

Joycey29 · 27/03/2009 13:44

OK I need help - it's the last friday of the month so dh and I are donning glad rags and leaving dd and ds with a sitter.
Normally we go pubbing, a meal or maybe cinema but there is nothing on and I don't fancy sitting in a pub all night not drinking!
Any suggestions of what we could do in light of being pg on our one night of freedom?

hobnob57 · 27/03/2009 13:52

We had the same problem on valentine's. We ended up having a rare meal out and visiting an old friend for a catch-up. Just like pre-kids days!

Kyte - i had truly horrible sickness with dd but only nasty sickness with ds. If it had been the other way round I too would have wondered why - maybe this ones a girl??

BeckyBendyLegs · 27/03/2009 14:15

Hobnob that is wonderful news so pleased for you. Having also had a missed MC and a non-missed MC myself I completely understand your fears and symptom spotting. But that's wonderful that you saw a heartbeat!

Joycey how about the cinema?

Kyte my MS is much worse than it was with DS1 (no MS at all - except one wobbly moment in French Connection at about 12 weeks) and DS2 (a few days feeling sick after breakfast). I do dread not being able to look after the DSs. I'm 6 weeks 2 days today. I've only felt sick so far, but dread any vomiting happening. I go to pieces when I throw up. I haven't actually thrown up for about 5 years I don't think, can't remember!

Cies · 27/03/2009 14:24

Joycey I'd go out for a nice meal, maybe Thai or Japanese noodles with a delicious fresh fruit juice or tea instead of wine. Plus a film or a stroll round an exhibition if there are any nice ones open late near you.

Joycey29 · 27/03/2009 14:27

Thanks guys you've got me thinking! I was a bit flat about tonight but now looking forward to it if i can keep my eyes open!!
