Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
becks130 · 26/03/2009 19:10

I would call your midwife to confirm, it doesn't sound right that you have to wait till 20 weeks. I lived in two different area's when pregnant with ds and I now live in another area and all seem to have been the same with regards to dating scans, I lived in london, essex and surrey and all were the same when it came to scans.

I didn't believe I was pregnant until I saw it on screen, this feeling is very normal.

katster37 · 26/03/2009 19:15

cupcake I am so sorry to hear your sad news. There's nothing anyone can say except take time to grieve and don't put any pressure on yourself to feel in any particular way. Big hugs.

Leannabanana · 26/03/2009 19:17

Fruitpastels and Scarlotti - my scan is on the 27th too....seems an age away doesn't it....xx

katster37 · 26/03/2009 19:21

Fruitpastel thanks for the advice - I am currently slobbing out on the settee (just had a pizza and a mars bar for tea ) and had lots of fluids etc.

EasyEggs that is so exciting - did they give you a new EDD at your scan?

I am counting down to my early scan - a week on Tuesday. DH is out tonight so am enjoying rubbish tele and planning a lovely early night! When did that become a fun evening?!

Also - can I ask if you are missing alcohol? I was really worried about not having a few glasses of wine on a Fri and Sat night, but it hasn't even crossed my mind. Not remotely interested in it! Same for coffee and tea. Anyone else?

becks130 · 26/03/2009 19:29

I've been lucky because just the tought of alcohol makes me feel VERY sick, I've switched to decaf tea and coffee when I can stomach it!

cupofteaplease · 26/03/2009 19:39

Sorry for your loss, cupcake- what sad news to have received.

I'm just so tired, it's not true. UInfortunately I still have lessons to plan for tomorrow, and I am being formally observed so I really need my wits about me. Can't wait until 12 weeks to let people know why I have been so completely zonked-looking! I'm not used to being this dopey!

BeckyBendyLegs · 26/03/2009 19:44

I can't even watch people drink alcohol on the TV! Yuck. Bleugh!

Feel bad this evening and DH is going to Leeds tomorrow until Sat lunchtime. I'm worried I'll struggle to get the DSs to bed tomorrow night and up again Saturday morning because right now I can hardly keep myself sitting upright to type this! Right, off to slob out on the sofa with a bowl of pasta and meatballs with too much cheese on top and a glass of grapefruit juice.

Did anyone drink before they knew they were pregnant? I went to a party when I was about 2 weeks and drank a fair amount of white wine . I had no idea!

cupofteaplease · 26/03/2009 19:48

BBL- yes, I spent a month abroad when I was just pregnant but didn't know. When my children had gone home, I had two major sessions with friends from my course involving vodka, rum and lots of white wine. Feel very guilty, but realistically I know I had no reason to suspect I was pregnant, so I didn't do anything wrong intentionally!

BeckyBendyLegs if you were only 2 weeks pg, you would only just be ovulating so not even officially 'conceived' yet and def not implanted. I wouldn't worry. I was tracking ovulation and the last time I drank was 4 days after that, too early for implantation but still I suppose I technically shouldn't have. Really don't think it would matter though, I read somewhere that after 5 weeks is when it really starts using your blood stream and that's when you should really avoid it
It's so weird though - the thought of a glass of wine nearly makes me heave! And I used to be a right guzzler!

helips · 26/03/2009 19:52

Cupcake, so sorry to hear your sad news I hope you get lots of support in real life and from mumsnet and wish you lots of luck for the future. I know you are scared that it will never happen for you but take comfort that you conceived a baby and you will again when the time is right for you. I don't normally do hugs on mumsnet but sending lots your way.....x

scarlotti · 26/03/2009 20:21

brightonbaby you should get a scan at 12 weeks as well as 20. We're in the same health district so should have the same rules. Did your gp say how you contact your midwife or if they contact you? You should get a booking in appointment around the 10 week mark as then you can have your bloods taken. You'll also get the option to have the nuchal scan or the quad test - nuchal scans are in London as they don't do them down here. If you opt for the nuchal then I don't think you get the dating scan as they are around the same time. It can depend on which hospital you choose to have the baby - we can choose from Brighton, Worthing or Haywards Heath.

turtle23 · 26/03/2009 20:55

Cupcake-So sorry to hear your news. Big hugs...

brightonbaby · 26/03/2009 21:01

Ah, thanks scarlotti, I think that's what my doctor must have meant then. She was so full of umming and erring, I couldn't really get a clear answer out of her. She implied the 12 weeks scan was optional (if I wanted to go private?), but if it's just that I have to go to London for it, that's fine.

I do have my first midwife appt on the 2nd April, so will get all the info from her too.

I've just order 'The Pregnancy Bible' and can't wait for it to arrive. Is anyone buying any books or have any recommendations?

EasyEggs · 26/03/2009 21:18

Just re-adding myself to the list dates were spot on, thought as much as I know the exact day we conceived lol

I have a little question- I think I am around 7 weeks, and will be seeing my midwife in just over a week. The thing is, I am still getting what feels like period pain occassionally. It is low down, near the top of my thighs and comes on usually at night time. Is anyone else still getting period-type pain? I know I had it with dd2, but I don't remember it going on until 7 weeks + Should I wait until I see midwife in around 10 days? Am I safe to ignore these pains?

turtle23 · 27/03/2009 06:04

Morning all...it's Ds's first birthday today and can't believe that I'm doing it all again!

Books: Ina May Gaskin's Guide to Childbirth and
anything by Michel Odent

turtle23 · 27/03/2009 06:04

(and am very worried as I feel fantastic... )

southernbelle77 · 27/03/2009 06:57

Morning. I don't know if I'm being really paranoid or not but I'm getting horrible cramps and I'm working myself up about it. I had 2 mc's last year so not sure if it is just that any tiny niggle seems like the worst or if I should be worried. I have scan booked for next Friday, but not sure I can wait a week Think I might call EPU when it opens and see what they say. Also, don't know whether to tell dh. I don't want to worry him for no reason, on the other hand I don't want to go through it on my own! I'm just a mess this morning. Sorry for the rant

ursigurke · 27/03/2009 07:41

Morning all.
cupoftea - I think they are normal, I had them too, very light ones though. My gynaecologist back home told me to take magnesium, so I started to eat lots of bananas. If you are not sure, ask the midwife or a doctor, they know best and it's their job.
southernbelle77 - I would definitely call the EPU and they will hopefully tell you that it is nothing. And I would also talk to your husband. You shouldn't be worried on your own, even if hopefully it was for no reason.
turtle23 - There are good and bad days, so enjoy if you are having a good day, especially if it is such an important day for your family. And MS might kick in later in the day anyway

Today ist the last day of my ninth week and I still haven't heard from anybody (if you remember, I have to call my GP once a week and last time they told me an other doctor would refer me - finally). Yesterday I tried several times to call the maternity unit at the hospital and no one picked up the phone, not even the answering machine.
I'm starting to think London isn't the best place to have a child

Joycey29 · 27/03/2009 08:04

Morning all!
cupoftea - I think they are normal, I had very light ones too. But agree with ursigurke If you are not sure, ask the midwife or a doctor.
southernbelle77 - Reassure yourself - call the EPU and they will hopefully tell you that it's normal. And talk to dh and share the worry that's what being a couple involves!
turtle23 - enjoy having a good day, MS might kick in later!
I stiull have no sign of MS just a massive appetite!

turtle23 · 27/03/2009 08:19

Just dug out a journal from first pregnancy. Looked at where I am now and it says "I don't feel sick anymore, something is wrong!" Then it has a gap of two weeks and I come back saying how dreadful I feel. GUess it's normal.

Joycey29 · 27/03/2009 08:41

Turtle - that's so cool! I never kept a journal - maybe I should have.
Q - When do i need to ring midwife and tell her - can't remember????

Cies · 27/03/2009 09:36

Morning all.

cupcakefairy so sorry for you Take all the time you need to grieve for this bean.

I'm just nibbling on some Marmite toast to stave off nausea. Think I'll finish the first trimestre 2 stone heavier!

I had my booking in appointment with the ob/gyn today. It was really just a few questions about my lifestyle (do I drink/smoke/do drugs), blood pressure and calculations with the circle thingy to work out how far along I am. She came out with and EDD of 12th November, which makes me 7+2 now.

I've got my scan at exactly 12 weeks! And a midwife appointment the day after.

Re books, I've got "Birth and Beyond" by Dr Yehudi Gordon and "The Pregnancy Bible" by Dr Anne Deans (translated in Spanish so I can try to persuade DH to read it!) Plus a friend gave me " A best friend's guide to Pregnancy daily diary" before I had my last mc. I really don't rate it very much, but it has a couple of tips that could come in handy. Oh, I also have the NHS Pregnancy Book that my friend who's an NHS dietician got for me last time I was preganant.

I think out of all of them Birth and Beyond may be the most useful because it takes you up to when the baby is 9 months old. But it is a bit hippyish - lots of meditation, incense, aromatherapy etc, which I'm not quite sure I'm into.

NewhereHelp · 27/03/2009 09:39

Hi all,

Everyone who are having cramps and worrying I so know where you are coming from - I really don't think I worried this much before! If you call GP / midwife / EPU though they will prob just tell you to rest and go to A & E if you can dscribe it as pain or there is 'substantial'!!!! blood loss!

I am feeling better today, will rest up as much as poss today and have my scan tomorrow so am hoping that will put my mind at rest.

Hang on in there everyone xx
