Not sure I would ever go off chocolate , but lately I've noticed that certain foods suddenly taste really good - broccoli and any dark green veg, mustard (I never really liked this before) and bizarrely, strawberry licorice which I HATE! Not all together of course .

I am dying to know the sex already, and I was the same with DS. I prefer to use "he or she" from the beginning, saying "it" just feels a bit wrong to me!

I'm on East Sussex/West Kent border, near Tunbridge Wells - anyone else nearby?

cupcakefairy · 17/03/2009 11:31

Hi everyone
Well I was right, this is the longest and most paranoid week ever! I can't believe it's still only Tuesday. I keep fluctuating between 'everything's going to be fine' and 'everything's going to be awful' at the scan on Friday...there have been a lot of tears but my DH is being really amazing- not letting me wash up and cooking for me and just being really affectionate and cute. So that's good.

No more bleeding (terrified of going to the toilet!) and definitely have pregnancy symptoms...nausea and can't get enough of spicy food and sore boobs... but I also know those can carry on with a missed mc...so we'll see. Told my boss yest and think she was a bit taken aback but was nice about it.

I honestly never knew I'd be this sick with worry being pregnant, I thought I'd just enjoy it! Meh. Hope everyone else is getting through their ms etc!

Becks - how many weeks/days were you at your scan? I'm a bit reassured that you only saw a sac too as I'm SO paranoid they couldn't see a heartbeat at mine last week

Fruitpastels · 17/03/2009 11:34

Morning everyone,

Hope we're all sharing this beautiful weather .

Lovelypear I've been craving strawberry licorice too! Totally gone off chocolate though.

Have been deprived of all sorts of food the past 8 days with having dreadful ms. scarlotti so sorry it's getting to you too. I've got the wristbands on 24/7 and I think they do help. I've woken a little nauseous today, but I now have a huge appetite and want cake, cake and more cake!! Not the healthiest of options, but it makes me feel better!

Cies · 17/03/2009 12:05

Morning everyone.

I'm enjoying the sunshine today! Lovely and warm.

I too have gone off chocolate a bit. And it hasn't been at all difficult not to drink alcohol, so I suppose I've gone off that too. Still no nausea or ms but by my calculations I'm only 5+5 so it could be a bit too early for that.

I've got my first lot of hospital blood tests tomorrow to check that HCG levels are rising because of the bleeding I had last week. Here in Spain they seem to be much freer with the scans and appointments if you want them. I've already had my first trimestre blood tests (well, the blood has been taken, I haven't got the results yet), and have an appointment with the OB/GYN on 27th March, when I'm sure I will be scanned. Haven't heard anything about the midwife yet, so I must remember to ask when I see my GP.

I think I tend towards not finding out about the sex, but I have no strong feelings either way really. I suppose if it comes out then that's fine.

fruitpastels the wristbands seem to be helping today (or I'm having a good day) so will carry on with what I've done today and hope it helps. Eating before I got up seemed to help too, had an oatcake and some squash (gosh I know how to live!!) which kept me going through my shower until breakfast. I've found the drive to work doesn't help, sadly, but if I then start to eat when I sit at my desk it's kept it at bay.

No real turn off's or cravings but I do seem to lean towards carbs more. Was the same with ds. Would choose a hot cross bun over some chocolate at the moment, most odd for me!!

lovelypear it's interesting you like the dark green veg - they contain the most folic acid so I guess nature tries to make us eat the right stuff! I'm not far from you, am just outside Brighton.

becks130 · 17/03/2009 12:40

Hi all,

cupcakefairy The nurse thinks that I am 5 weeks not 7 which is what we initially thought, I suffer from PCOS so it's quite hard to estimate a due date from my LMP. I have to go back for a rescan next Thursday to double check that everything is going fine, but for some reason I am still worried. My dh is also being very supportive but thinks I am worrying for nothing as the nurse said everything is ok. good luck for Friday.

I am also off chocolate; actually I am off anything sweet.

ButtercupWafflehead · 17/03/2009 12:40

Hi everyone - I'm still here! I think I am 6+1 now - the trouble with PG tests that are so accurate is that you can take them early and then you have aaaaaaages to wait until things get going!

I am feeling fit as a fiddle, although my waistline is definitely thicker - feel a tiny bit nauseated now and again but nothing like when PG with DS when I was sick as a dog - does this mean it's more likely to be a girl this time or is it just random?!

Sorry to hear that people aren't getting the attention they deserve from the NHS! I have an appt booked for 2 weeks time, and hopefully things will seem more real from then on.

Good luck everyone!

southernbelle77 · 17/03/2009 12:56

I went to see midwife this morning. She was really nice and said it was nice to see me again after last time. She is booking me in for an early scan at about 8 weeks as that is when I had my miscarriages last year and she said it was wise to see if this one was viable. She put my dates down completely differently to mine! I think my edd is about the 12 - 14th November but she has put it down as the 31st October, but that just can not be right! So will leave the list as it is until I have had the scan and that should give me a more accurate date!

Will catch up with all the other posts later!

katster37 · 17/03/2009 13:20

buttercupwafflehead I was just saying same thing about early tests - I literally found out ta 9DPO which means it is dragging so so much!

Iggypiggy we go to the EDT quite a lot (although not been for a while). Do you know it? Also another pub in East Dulwich that does really good pizzas and has a quiz, sort of in the middle of a housing estate. Can't remember the name.

southernbelle that is quite a big discrepancy in your dates! But really good you have got an early scan sorted out. When's it for?

HOw is everyone? BTW, and TMI alert... Does anyone feel a bit, ahem, damp down there? I keep rushing to the toilet because it feels like blood, but it's not, it's clear. Is that normal?! Worried a bit this morning as felt pretty much OK, and yesterday felt terrible all morning. Having itchy boobs and feel tired but not as sick as yesterday. . Who ever thought I would WANT to feel sick?!?

katster37 · 17/03/2009 13:21

Oh, and I can't STOP eating chocolate... In fact I am really trying, as I read something about how much caffeine is in it... But have not been remotely bothered by not drinking wine or coffee, which is what I was worried about...

southernbelle77 · 17/03/2009 13:28

Kaster, I know what you mean about 'down there' too! I thought I was being a bit overly cautious about running to the toilet every time it felt a bit damp but glad to know it's not just me! I know pregnancy can cause it to happen so it is normal!

Not got date for scan yet. Midwife was taking my form into the hospital this afternoon so hopefully should here in the next couple of days.

Cies · 17/03/2009 14:01

Katster37 and southernbelle77 - I too am wet down there and I keep running to the loo thinking it's blood. Good to hear others have the same thing!

iggypiggy · 17/03/2009 14:41

Katster you mean the Gowlett that is v. near me! I know EDT but don't go often. Also - I am eating lots of choc... I went off it for a few days while was feeling sick - but not felling sick now so am eating a bar a day!

tigger32 · 17/03/2009 14:45

katster southernbelle and cies Thank you so much for posting about being damp down there! I have been very much so today and was starting to worry, I feel much better now thank you!

Having said that my boobs hurt like mad and I am soooo tired!

LovelyPear · 17/03/2009 15:02

cupcake, what a lovely hubbie you must have. I haven't even had a scan yet, but I'm also fluctuating between feeling really optimistic, and then thinking the worst. I think because I feel so few symptoms this time except fatigue. Part of me is thinking "am I really pg?". My scan is not until 21st April - aaages away!

buttercup, I was sick as a dog too with my DS, and this time I feel fine. It's making me worry, but then I think "ooh, perhaps that means it's a girl!" and I feel a bit better. Of course I'd be happy either way, but it would be lovely to have a girly...

waves at scarlotti also in e sussex! glad you're coping better today. I found that constant snacking was the only thing that helped me when battling ms. poor you, I do feel for you!

2littlemonkeys · 17/03/2009 15:27

hi all, well i have had a couple of busy days!! For a weeek or so i have been geting a sharp pain in my right side. So i went to the doctors yest and he arranged for me to go to gyne ward to have a scan in case it was ectopic!!
So off i went to the hospital. After a 3 hour wait the doctor examined me took bloods etc and told me to go back today for a scan. So i had a scan today at the epau to be told i was 6 weeks the baby was in the right place the yolk and fetal pole is there but no heartbeat. So i have to go back nxt week to see if there is any progress.

So feeling rather down this afternoon and not quite sure what to do with myself!!! and to top it off my dh has gone out for a beer for paddys day!!
P.s sorry for the rant but havent told anyone in rl yet xxxxx

scarlotti · 17/03/2009 15:36

2littlemonkeys hang in there. It's quite common not to find a heartbeat at this early stage so don't read anything into your scan. Sharp pains can also be the result of your ligaments stretching. Take comfort in that now you are on the epau radar and so will get scanned until the all clear.
A fetal pole is a good sign for this stage.

lovelypear where in e sussex are you? Feel free not to say if you'd rather not!!

Think coffee is making me feel ill another of my joys taken away, although I wasn't enjoying the taste of it as much anyway. Was doing fine today on the ms front until a lunchtime cup. Sigh, off to get some fruit tea bags then - if that doesn't give the game away I don't know what will!!

ursigurke · 17/03/2009 15:40

2littlemonkeys - I think 6 weeks is a bit early for a heartbeat so you shouldn't worry. Sometimes you can only see it much later. Enjoy that it is in the right place and try not to worry too much (easier said than done, I suppose).

amyboo · 17/03/2009 16:17

I wish I'd gone off something. I just seem to want to eat - constantly! I'm trying to fight the urge as much as possible or eat fruit and things, but I seem to be wanting savory stuff more.

Am in a slight panic today, as I rung up some creches to see about places. Here in Belgium maternity leave is only 20 weeks in total, so lots of kids go to creche from about 4 months, which is what we'll be doing with baby. Thankfully, it's very cheap (around ?450 a month full time). But, I started phoning round the places in my area to get appointments, and some are already booked up through to May 2010!! How insane is that? I think some people must book a place before they even get pregnant... Still, I got a few appointments, so hopefully we'll find something nearby. It's all starting to feel very real now though.

scarlotti · 17/03/2009 16:39

For those that are looking into private scans, and so want to time it best for value for money, I found the following on an internet search:

At 6 weeks gestation 78% of pregnancies in which a fetal heart beat is identified, will continue to term.
At 8 weeks gestation 98% of pregnancies in which a fetal heart beat is identified, will continue to term.
At 10 weeks gestation 99.4% of pregnancies in which a fetal heart beat is identified, will continue to term.

katster37 · 17/03/2009 16:52

Thanks for that scarlotti - I am shocked that only 78% of 6 week babies where you hear a heartbeat will continue to term That is awful. Mine is booked for exactly 7 weeks. Just don't know how people cope with the waiting, it is enough to drive anyone completely insane!

2littlemonkeys, it seems that a fetal pole and it being in the right place is an excellent sign? And the palce where I tried to book my private scan for 6 weeks wouldn't let me as they said people get too upset if there is no heartbeat, and at that gestation there v often isn't.

iggypiggy - yes I do mean the Gowlett!! Haven't been for a while but we are pretty close by! If all our babies do well, we could have a proper South London get-together!

LovelyPear · 17/03/2009 16:56

2littlemonkeys so sorry to hear you've had such a worrying time! I'm sure as the others are saying it's all normal for so early on in pg. easier said than done, but try not to worry about it too much!

scarlotti I'm in Crowborough, just outside of TW and not far from Lewes. Not been here that long, but v happy here so far!

2littlemonkeys · 17/03/2009 17:13

Thank you all for making me feel a bit better just not looking forward to work tomorrow i couldnt work in a worse place a the mo the nnu!!! fingers crossed for nxt tues i was told the bean should of doubled in size and have a heartbeat xx

EasyEggs · 17/03/2009 17:17

Wow you ladies can talk lol! Haven't had much of a chance to catch up so just had a quick 5 mins now.

Congrats to all the new joiners It's getting busy in here!

For those with good scan news, YAYYYYY!! I bet that is such a relief. I am toying with the idea of having a private one at 8weeks because so far I have NO symptoms at all. I'm sure by then I'll be sick as a dog but would be nice for some reassurance

lovelypear I live near T'wells too lol, where abouts are you, it's nice to have a fellow mn'er nearby
