Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
scarlotti · 16/03/2009 15:55

Welcome Cavs.

kaster great news on your scan. Hopefully they'll find the heartbeat for you then. Did they suggest having on that early or did you? Only ask as the heartbeat can develop between 6 - 7.5 weeks so I'd hate for you to spend all that money and then need to go back a week later. I might have the dates wrong though

becks130 · 16/03/2009 16:19

I had an emergency scan this afternoon and all seems fine, my dates seems to be out but not sure how much yet. We saw the sac and that was about it today, we have to go back next thursday to have a rescan. Feeling better as everything seems to be in the right place.

ursigurke · 16/03/2009 18:29

becks130 - I'm happy to hear that eventually you did get a scan so quickly and that it was good news.

I might develop sort of a nuts allergy. Since I'm pregnant I'm getting heartburn everytime I have nuts which I don't think I had before.
And I have read somewhere that you shouldn't eat nuts if you have any kind of allergies as your child could develop allergies because of that.
Does anyone has experience with new allergies during pregnancy? I just hope it is temporary like that stupid "I don't really like chocolate anymore"... there is nothing really left for my birthday cake

katster37 · 16/03/2009 19:30

ursigurke I am having a lot of indigestion anyway, so maybe it is just that and they are not agreeing with you at the min? I googled nuts in pregnancy (!) as I really wanted some hazelnut spread and it seems to just be peanuts that they advise to stay away from.

becks that is great about the scan. Are you feeling better?

scarlotti I am worried about that too - on the fetal medicine website it says they can do a viability scan from 6 weeks and we are going away the day after (6w+3) so really wanted to get it done before then, although it may be better to wait until after... Hmm. Not sure now.

Been to the GP just now. He was lovely and couldn't stop grinning! But apart from that, gave me a EDD of 21 Nov, told me to get some blood tests next week and said the midwife would write to me. He said all the scans would be at King's. Anyone else based in London who is also at King's hospital?

OK well, hope you're all doing well. I am having weird 'twinges'. Not cramps, just feels like tugging, sort of. Is that normal do you think?

Evening ladies!

Struggling to keep up with everyone! I haven't been on that much as this ms has really got to me. I'm hoping I've got it under control today as have felt so much better this afternoon. Eating often is the key for me, but hard to do if you're struggling to keep food down!

Glad to hear your scans went ok for Scarlotti & becks. Hope you're feeling much more positive

Katster I'm booked in for my scan at Kings at the end of April - I'm 6+5. I was under Kings for my nuchal scan with my ds and they were a very nice and helpful team Your twinges and tugging are normal . Mine weren't so noticable 2nd time around, but really felt them with ds!

alexdrake · 16/03/2009 20:31

Hi All
Is there room for one more? Got a BFP on Thursday for #2, DS1 is 18 months. Lots of ms which didn't happen last time but no other symptoms so far. The calculator on here estimates baby due on 15th November but I don't really know my usual cycle length, I'm a bit useless at record keeping .

I've told my parents and sister as we'd arranged for them to come round at the weekend and help us dig a trench, I had to give some explanation for why I couldn't really help. DH thinks I've been a bit premature in telling since I had a mc before DS1 so got everything crossed he's worrying unnecessarily.

Anyone else in Essex?

weston · 16/03/2009 20:58

anyone going to find the sex out?/

i didn't first time but am tempted now...

NewhereHelp · 16/03/2009 21:05

Evening everyone - well I called the doctor today, the receptionist said I need to pop in to get a sample bottle and do a hospital test - even though I have done 4 pregnancy tests at home!

She said 'IF' it is positive I should have an appointment with the midwife between 10 and 12 weeks when she'll book the scan!

Am gutted I have a history, my last pregnancy was eptopic, I had gestational Diabetes with my lasy DS and I'm 37 - I feel like lying about my dates so I can get a scan at a reasonable time.

Plus she only does Wednesdays!

Sorry am moaning, just a little stressed - plus I just can't shift these blasted headaches

Welcome to all new BFPs & hope everyone else is doing fab

NewhereHelp · 16/03/2009 21:07

weston hi, good question I didn't with my 2 DSs and I'm not sure - I know it's the norn now but I think leaving it makes it more special

lillee · 16/03/2009 21:15

Evening ladies! Excellent news for Scarlotti and Becks on the scans, great relief just to see it on the screen isn't it? Pleased for you.

Congrats to all newbies!

Haven't been on since I was bungling all my words on Friday and not even puctuating properly . Cupcake thanks for not reading me the wrong way!

There's been loads to catch up on, this thread is going on at a pace isn't it.

Still feeling really bad with the tiredness and nausea - never was this bad with DS. Am praying it goes soon as my 2yr old doesn't quite understand that mummy can't spin him round or run about all afternoon now. BTW I think my EDD will be changed, the GP gave me the date on my first visit there but the scan showed me as 3days further on. Think the scan should be more precise?

Hi Weston, I think I might try to find out the sex this time. Was totally against it first time round but I was sure I was having a boy anyway. (Don't know why). This preg is different so far though. Don't think they do sexing scans up here in Scotland (was preg with DS when I lived in Cheshire so they did offer the choice there), just have to find out what happens.

Going for chat about Screening next Monday and that is worrying me more over the last couple of days. One min I let myself think everything will be ok, then I panic that I'm too old and something could well be wrong. Oh well, this pregnancy lark is full of so many good and bad emotions isn't it?!

Anyway, hope you are all ok and coping with the symptoms.

lillee · 16/03/2009 21:22

Newherehelp just tell the receptionist you need an appointment with the GP. She can't refuse you. Then you tell the GP and not the receptionist about your anxieties. These people on the desk, on the whole are helpful but, at my last practice they thought they were an authority unto themselves. I had a couple of run ins and in the end my GP stood up for me, even the midwife agreed and made a complaint against the two females in question!

BTW you don't have to explain what the appointment is for either! If it makes you feel better take your own pos preg test with you and pee in a pot there and then for their records.

This is a stressful enough time if you haven't had a history and sadness before in pregnancy without having to deal with these halfwits!

NewhereHelp · 16/03/2009 21:25

Thanks lillee but my GP is fairly useless too, I could take the pot and a clearblue with me and do it in reception

Need to chill, hard not to worry though

LOL Newherehelp, good idea. Stage a protest! It would certainly get a reaction and a quicker appointment I reckon .

It is hard not to worry, and I do really feel for you. I was under the impression though, feel free to correct me as it might be a diff system in England (although not in my one experience), that you need to see the GP to get the booking in appointments set up? And if you have had a history they should be pulling out the stops to ensure that you do NOT need to stress and worry.

But you know that you need to try and chill cos you need to look after yourself. We are here to chat if you need to in the meantime. Go and get yourself a hot milky drink, will take your mind off things for a few seconds and might even help you sleep later.

If I was you, I would just book a routine appointment tomorrow for the GP anyway, they can't ignore your concerns and have to deal with you appropriately. You at least need to set your own mind at rest. Really hope you are ok x

PeaJay · 16/03/2009 22:00

Good evening everyone, and hi to all the new people!

I think that doctors receptionists have a special gene which makes them particulaly unhelpful and think they know it all!!! My parents surgery is particularly bad, fortunately mine are lovely and have always been really good.

Newherehelp I cannot beleive your surgery wants to do their own test - esp if you have done a few of your own, what a waste of money. My doctor said last time they are happy to accept your test since they are so accurate. You would hardly lie about being pregnant would you?! The receptionist needs to mind her own business and keep tp being a receptionist. I like the idea of taking in your BFP! Rant over!

Ursigurke try not to worry about the hands off approach from your GP. There really isn't a lot they are able to do for us at this early stage (as frustrating as that is I know). I was feeling exactly the same as you with my DD, I saw the GP told him I was pregnant and then saw the MW briefly at about 9 weeks, and then saw no-one until my booking appointment which I had at 19 weeks! I even booked my own 20 week scan! It was all incredibly frustrating, I wanted to feel someone was actually taking an interest in me and looking after me. From 20 weeks onwards I saw the MW regularly and was happy with the support I got. I haven't been to the GP yet, I have got some holiday in a couple of weeks so I'm planning to go then.

Cupcake My fingers are crossed tight for you. X

Anyone else got backache? I cannot sit comfortably at all. Not sure I had it last time, just wondering if everything relaxes faster?!

BFN

lillee · 16/03/2009 22:16

Hi Peajay. Am going to bed in a min cos I'm past my 'early night' already!

The backache thing I think is the same as some of the others have SPD - if its right at the base of your back and really sore when your sitting? See the GP and do as one of the others have done and get a gym/pilates ball to sit on to help ease it out.

I had it dreadfully with DS right through the pregnancy and for a time after, although it did ease off a bit after the birth. It was painful to sit for any length of time and then stand up to straighten up - could have cried with it sometimes (and did, privately of course!).

Hope its just a bit of back pain with the early stirrings but if it is more regular and gets more painful then please do what has been suggested before. It will get worse otherwise. Oh the joys, eh? Other than that, hope you are ok!

PeaJay · 16/03/2009 22:26

Hi Lillee - Thanks for the advice, I have got a gym ball so I'll fetch it out from gathering dust! It's really annoying - just a permanent dull pain rather than sharp stabbing one (and does nothing to stop the usual stressing!). I'll mention it when I see my GP, but trying to put it with it, hopefully it will settle soon.

I must go to bed too - I'm an hour and a half later than last night! Couldn't beleive I was asleep by 9pm - typical DH woke me up at 4am pinching the quilt!

Have a good night.

helips · 17/03/2009 07:14

Alexdrake, I am based in Essex and my ds is 18 months old too!

Scarlotti, I have to pay for my scan, £70, but it is worth every penny for the reassurance!

Becks, so glad you got to have the scan and that everything is ok.

I went to see the doctor yesterday, what a waste of time that was. He took my blood pressure but that was it. Said I was about 5 or 6 weeks but didn't give me a date so I am sticking with the one on here which makes me 6 weeks 1 day! He told me to get in touch with my midwives when I'm 10 weeks to arrange my 12 week scan. I didn't tell him I'd already spoken to then and arranged my early scan!

katster37 · 17/03/2009 08:21

Wow, belgianbun that is so funny that you are in Streatham! The end of our road is Streatham and I go through on the way to work!
I have been reading the book the GP gave me this morning, and feeling more and more nervous. One min I'm quite relaxed and calm, the next I'm convincing myself that, chances are, it will all end badly.... Does anyone know what the proper stats are on miscarriage? I am so nervous... I daren't breathe!

iggypiggy · 17/03/2009 08:50

Streatham/ gypsy hill is fairly near me too - as am in East Dulwich. I think Kings is my nearest hosp - but have never been there...

BlackLetterDay · 17/03/2009 09:04

Hi newherehelp, I had to do a hospital test too on friday, will ring up for the results today, then I will be allowed to make an appointment with the midwife. Like someone else said it's ridiculous and a complete waste of time and money, in my previous 2 pregnancies with different surgeries they just took my word for it. Not sure if this makes me mental but I took my last clearblue test with me and dipped it in the pot I sent off, thankfully it came up as pregnant 3+, just didn't want any nasty surprises

tigger32 · 17/03/2009 10:01

Morning all,

Hope everyone is still doing ok, and great news about the positive scans!

i can't believe how different GP s do things so differently in pregnancy.
I saw my gp last week for another reason but told her I was pg, she took my word for it and gave me the number for the midwife so that I can call her myself, she actually told me that it wasn't necessary to tell the gp in our area you can go straight to the midwife who would then inform the gp.

just wondering if anyone has started to go off certain food yet?
I am a big chocoholic usually but not really into it now
i seem to want to eat savoury snacks

scarlotti · 17/03/2009 10:11

newherehelp for you! Can you ring the midwife team and ask them whether you should be booking in earlier than 10-12 weeks? Esp. as you've had an ectopic previously and like me are a bit older. I have to have bloods taken at 11 weeks and if I wanted the nuchal scan, than that gets done around then too. Am sure that once you're past 36 the nuchal is no longer optional - at least down here.
Some doctors and receptionists think they're gods gift imo.

fruitpastels am so with you on the ms. Yesterday was debilitating and I ended up leaving work early. Today I had half an oatcake before I got out of bed, and have been eating on and off ever since. Have borrowed my dd's travel sick wristband so am hoping that will help. Can feel I'm borderline today. Read somewhere that acupuncture works well, and I've been for cranial osteopathy before (last pg) which got rid of it for about 4 days. Blessed relief.

Helips not surprised you've paid. I'm thinking of getting one at around 8 or 9 weeks as I can't get another nhs one now until 12 weeks. Last bean m/c at 10.5 weeks but hadn't grown. Think if I could get reassurance at 9 weeks that bean was then 9 weeks size it would make all the difference.

Hello to everyone else!

ursigurke · 17/03/2009 10:14

I'm usually a chocoholic too but at the moment I'm just not interested in. And as I had said before, I now get terrible heartburn after having eaten nuts. My husband though is a chocoholic since a couple of weeks, it seems as we have swapped tastes.

I think I would like to know about the sex. I could probably not look at the screen without trying to look for any signs. And I quite like the idea that you can already name the baby or say "he" or "she" instead of "it" (at least in German I would need to say "it". How about in English? Is the baby an "it" as long as you don't know the sex?)
