For those with headaches, try the headache sticks you roll on your forehead. They don't work for everyone, but they have always worked for me (after making my eyes water at first!) and means not taking pills, or taking them too if it's really bad.

browntrout · 15/03/2009 20:16

evening all.

I suffered with awful headaches with DD1 up until about 17 weeks. The only way I could fend them off was to drink about 3 litres of water a day. The obvious problem with that is that you spend the rest of the day going to the loo.

This time I am very very itchy and it is driving me up the wall. My constant scratching looks really very fetching to those around me as well.

scarlotti · 15/03/2009 21:09

Evening ladies

I've been lucky on the headache front as have escaped that so far but tiredness and nausea are still rampant. With ds the nausea didn't kick in really until about 8 weeks - by the time I get there this time I'll have already had 4 weeks of it
Boobs seem to get sore more at night or when I've been napping - maybe I'm lying on them funny?!

helips - thanks for the good luck wishes. Am feeling quite positive about it but hoping it's not blind optimism.

Cies · 15/03/2009 21:39

It's reassuring to hear that symptoms can wait until weeks 7-8 to appear.

I'm not sure if I'm imagining things. I made DH judge whether my boobs really were bigger this morning. And although I am thirsty, I don't know if it's because it's so sunny outside and I've been for a long walk. And does the bread really taste overly yeasty, or is it my over-active imagination? I would be much calmer if I was retching into the loo

cupcakefairy · 15/03/2009 22:32

Haha, our poor DHs/DPs! I made mine analyse if my boobs were bigger yesterday too cos they certainly feel it - he seems to think not. He has been so so lovely today cooking and cleaning etc. He's trying to persuade me to take time off work as I've been so tearful all weekend but I am going in tomorrow. Gonna break the news to my boss too incase anything untoward happens...not looking forward to that

It is very reassuring to hear others have bled early on but still trying not to count my chickens before Friday...

Welcome katster - my GP reckons there is no difference between a faint and strong line on a pregnancy test...a line is a line apparently so don't worry if it gets fainter

And also, whoever said about a doctor telling them every woman ovulates on day 14 - how ridiculous!! It annoys me how clueless docs can be sometimes. I don't ovulate until around day 20 and every woman's cycle is different, grr!

beepbeep · 16/03/2009 08:24

Can I join you??!! Got a positive test last night, though pretty sure it'll be November not sure what my date will be as i am so irregular, date of last cycle was 29th Jan, but not abnormal to go for 7 weeks! Have been sufferring badly with headaches as I did with DS, so was no suprise. I have a DD who is 2.3 and a DS who is 8m - this WILL be the last!
Work are aware we were looking to have 3rd child, but am in the middle of sex discrimination / bullying dilema, most of which comes from being pregnant on the team before and them trying to push me to another team because of TTC! Have to go in today for meeting with big boss to make him aware of what is going on (been going on since first pregnancy but never formally said anything b4), so REALLY not looking forward to it, however now i know i'm pregnant i think i'll move anyway as i can't deal with the stress again. Just annoys me that i feel i have no real choice (it took a lot of work to get onto my team and i have sacrificed alot for them).
Sorry for long post, just feeling really jittery about my meeting this aft, not the best start to a pregnancy.
Cupcake, as i understand it everyone ovulated 14days before end of cycle, but cause everyone has different lengths of cycles this is different for everyone.

amyboo · 16/03/2009 08:40

scarlotti I'm so glad I'm not the only one who feels like they need to eat all the time to take away the nausea. Felt absolutely hideous this morning - retched twice while making my sandwich for lunch Eating seems to make the nausea go away slightly, but at the moment it's pretty much a constant in my life. God knows how I'll keep up this pretence at work for another 6 weeks - I'm only 6+6...

becks130 · 16/03/2009 08:42

welcome and congratulations beepbeep. I understand what your going through I went through a similar thing when I was pregnant with my ds, I suffered SPD very bad and was signed off of work, my employer wasn't happy with this and made my life hell, they tried EVERYTHING to push me out of the company. Be strong, and don't let them get away with it.

morning all! congrats to all the newbies and big hugs for all those feeling rough. cupcake, sounds like you had a scary experience, hope you're feeling better now.

wow, it's taken me ages to catch up on all the goss. we've had a manic weekend as DS turned 1 year old yesterday. we had a huge party with all the family and ended up in the garden enjoying the sunshine all day! god, it was so tempting to tell them all we're pg again, but wanted to keep the day just for DS. i was paranoid about my little bump but wore a nice big floaty top so hope it covered me up! i'm feeling ok, just super-tired and fat.

beepbeep, i really feel for you with your work sitch. it was a bit like that for me - as soon as i got married my boss gave up on me and was just waiting for me to get pg. it made me so angry and resentful - not good. hope all goes ok this afternoon, just remember the law is on your side.

scarlotti · 16/03/2009 10:41

Morning all
Went for my scan this morning and they found both little bean and a heartbeat so we're thrilled. Feels like one of the major hurdles has been crossed. Have to wait another 6 weeks before we get seen again as my hospital doesn't do reassurance scans apparently, so am hoping I can cope waiting that long.

amyboo am same as you, about 6+3 and eating is all that helps. I don't actually retch or be sick (part of me wishes I did) but just feel nauseous all day long. Another 6 weeks of this might just do me in.

Sorry to all of those in a tough work situation, you really shouldn't have to deal with anything like that.

Off to find something to eat again now

amyboo · 16/03/2009 10:52

That's great news about the scan scarlotti Sounds like we're in exactly the same boat with the nausea. Haven't actually been sick yet, but just feel hideously queasy all day, and eating seems to be the only thing to stop it. Am trying boiled sweets today as an alternative, and they seem to be working OK...

iggypiggy · 16/03/2009 11:11

Morning all! So much to catch up on reading!

My symptoms have sort of gone for now - after initial nausea... but still have a few other symptoms. Still is a worry...

Just tried to call Dr for first appt - but had to leave message.

Looks like there is a couple of us in SE London

becks130 · 16/03/2009 11:43

Hi all,

I'm feeling really down today, had really bad cramp since last week so finally went to the dr this morning who said that it could be ectopic so wait to see if it gets any worse. How can he say that then tell me to wait, now i'm feeling sick with worry. I called the early pregnancy unit who told me that my Dr has to refer me, so i'm now waiting for him to call me back.

scarlotti happy that everything went well at your scan.

katster37 · 16/03/2009 12:13

Becks sorry you are feeling bad. That seems ridiculous that you can't walk into an EPU and ask for a scan, given your symptoms. I hope they go off.

scarlotti, that is wonderful news!! How exciting!! Did you have a scan on the NHS? I am looking into maybe getting a private foetal viability scan at 6 or 7 weeks, as I don't think I can wait until 12, I am feeling so anxious already, it's literally all I can think about. Feeling very queasy today and just taught 2 whole lessons sitting down! (am a teacher and normally stood up for the whole day!) Still slightly unnerved that I am feeling so rough at only 4 weeks. Am going to see the GP tonight to let them know I'm pregnant, but am not really sure what to expect. What do they say?

Hope everyone's having a good Monday. BTW I am also in South LOndon - Tulse Hill / Herne Hill area.

scarlotti · 16/03/2009 12:51

becks am surprised at your docs reaction - if there was a chance it was ectopic I'd have expected him to refer you for a scan. Is he planning to refer you? What's he going to call back about?

kaster37 my scan was on the nhs as I had some spotting on Thurs morning. I have had two m/c's before this one so rang them as I'd been to them previously. They booked me in for this morning. I've been told though that they don't do reassurance scans (seems to depend on area) so I'll probably have to wait now until the 12 week scan unless I want to pay privately.
When I saw my gp he said congrautlations and told me to get in touch with the mw and make an appointment for around the 8 week mark. That's about all you get these days! Sadly my nausea started around 4.5 weeks too and is still going strong. Some of us just get lucky eh

lemontop · 16/03/2009 12:59

Katster

I'm in Gipsy Hill. Very close to you! I'm also a teacher and thinking about going for a private scan. I'm feeling so anxious and my scan date is 6 weeks today. I'm not sure I can wait that long.

helips · 16/03/2009 13:31

Scarlotti, great news about your scan, you must feel so relieved!

Becks can you get your doctor to refer you once he rings back? You shouldn't have to wait and if he thinks its ectopic then surely the sooner you find out the better. Good luck and hope everything is ok.

I spoke to my midwife today and she told me about a place that does early scans so I am booked in for the 6th April. I can't wait! Hope this little bean is ok and growing in the right place, will feel so much better when I've seen it on the scan.

Hope everyone else is feeling ok and enjoying the sunshine...

iggypiggy · 16/03/2009 13:46

I have booked early scan too (just now) - on 30th March - seems a long wait till 30th April you see!

scarlotti · 16/03/2009 13:48

There's a thread about private scans on the pregnancy board and many of them suggest www.fetalmedicine.com/fmc/treatment-fees/ for a place to go for a private scan in London. £100 for a scan before 11 weeks.

helips have you managed to get your early scan on the nhs? Great that you've got one sorted.

katster37 · 16/03/2009 13:51

Oh lemontop we always walk for Sunday lunch in Gypsy Hill, so v close! Are you primary or secondary? I'm a KS1 teacher.
Scarlotti I'm sorry, I didn't realise you had had spotting. I hope you're feeling reassured a bit.
Hmm, well hopefully the GP will be nice. 8 weeks seems a long time away, each day is dragging so so so much. I think I will definitely book a scan privately if I can - I have had the Foetal Medicine Centre recommended to me and I think it's about 100 pounds, which is a lot, but I think 12 weeks seems an awful long way away!
OK, hope everyone doing OK today X

eeyore2 · 16/03/2009 14:00

Hi everyone, hope you are all having a good start to the week.
I am 6+2 now, and we made the big step of telling our parents this weekend. They were so excited which was lovely! We are both the eldest in our families so it is a first time experience for both our sets of parents. My father-in-law actually cried which was very embarrassing! I didn't really want to tell them so early but we are very close with our families and see them all the time so we decided that they would be really upset if they found out we'd been hiding it from them. I am still really nervous though and have tried to convince them all that we won't be talking about anything baby-related until after we get to 12 weeks, which still seems ages away.....

Cavs · 16/03/2009 14:45

Hello everyone

Can I join in?! Got my BFP this morning! It was a bit of a surprise really as only started trying last month and were a bit half hearted at that so was a lovely shock to get the double line this morning on the test!
We already have a 13 month old dd so this is no 2!
Hope everyone is getting on ok, I'd forgotten just how much worrying there is during pregnancy and I only found out this morning! I thought that 2nd time round you'd be more relaxed but 12 weeks seems like ages away...

katster37 · 16/03/2009 14:49

Welcome, Cavs and congrats on your BFP!

Scarlotti I have just actually phoned the foetal medicine centre and booked an appointment for 2nd April - if it is still OK by then... I will be 6w2d by then, so hopefully they will be able to detect a heartbeat.

Has anyone been there? That is only 2 weeks away, so I guess I can kind of aim for coping until then, if that makes sense!
