katster37 · 15/03/2009 09:44

Hello,

Could I very quietly join?? I found out I was pg on Thurs /Fri and have worked out my due date as 24th Nov. It is my first baby and we live in London. I am terrified and paranoid something bad will happen!!
I am having a lot of symptoms and had to sit down on the floor in the middle of a shop yesterday.. Generally feeling v queasy and have massively sore boobs.
I am going to make a GP appointment tomorrow. Any advice as to what they will say? I am contemplating going for a private reassurance scan at 7 weeks, if I get that far.

ursigurke · 15/03/2009 11:35

katster37 - Congratulation! I'm in London too and so far I'm not very impressed by the NHS here.
I met the GP at 5 weeks, he only checked my blood pressure and asked me in which hospital I wanted to have my baby. As if you would know that at that stage. No advice at all, I even had to ask him if I should take folic acid. I went back a week after to inform him about my hospital choice and I only had to leave him a note. Since that I haven't heard from anybody. Went back to the GP one week later, apparently they had dealt with my case already (I just didn't believe them). I didn't even get that NHS pregnancy book as they were still waiting for the delivery. But they confirmed that the community midwifes, who are located at the hospital (at least in my case - it's St Mary's near Paddington), would get in touch with me. I guess, I should call them next week as I've just started week 8.
I wanted to give the NHS a chance (as a foreigner you here terrible things about it) but so far I'm not very convinced. The first 12 weeks are said to be the most important/dangerous ones so I would have thought they give you a bit of advice. Luckily there is MN with lots of nice and helpful people
I hope you will be luckier with your GP than I am.

cupcakefairy · 15/03/2009 13:09

Thanks everyone for being so kind! I am all over the place today...laughing one minute then sobbing the next. No more red blood today thankfully. I was also really moody with my BF on the phone just now and she's only concerned. Meh... I just wish I knew what was going to happen...the limbo is horrible. If I knew I was miscarrying I could start to deal with that but I'm just stuck in the middle. Wish I could fast forward!

I keep waking up early with nausea too so maybe that's a good sign?? Time will tell. Don't know ho some of you do ths with other young DCs!

scarlotti · 15/03/2009 13:23

cupcakefairy am so sorry to hear what you're going through. If you want somewhere to go where you can talk about it to the nth degree and get lots of advice, join the rest of us here as there is plenty of wonderful advice on what to do/expect etc. There are also lots of wonderful examples of pg ladies who bled early on and are now just waiting for due day!

usigurke sorry you're still not getting much help from your medical care team. If I were you I'd phone the hospital and ask to speak to the community midwife team, then explain to them that you're worried as your gp has been rubbish and that the nhs system is foreign to you. Am sure they'll arrange an appointment and then you'll feel more relaxed.

Can't remember who asked about memory loss (how ironic!) but yes, it's a symptom!

Have my scan booked in for 8:15 tomorrow morning so am hoping all is well. I am feeling quite positive, which is the complete opposite to the other times, so either that's a good sign or I'm deluding myself.

scarlotti · 15/03/2009 13:24

kaster37 oops, forgot to say welcome

tigger32 · 15/03/2009 14:49

Hello, cupcakefairy really sorry to hear your having a bad time, fingers crossed all will be ok!

Well I think I know what my tummy ache was all about.. I've been very constipated and full of wind lol

I am feeling much more positive at the minute but not building my hopes up too much!
I think I will try and get an early scan just to put myself at ease.

I am glad other 2nd/3rd timers are having different symptoms this time aswell its very reassuring.

Oh and I am in the East Midlands

A big welcome and congratulations to all the newbies!

tigger32 · 15/03/2009 14:51

Oh yes and was going to ask anyone else getting tearful? I was actually sobbing at The Colour of Money!!

NewhereHelp · 15/03/2009 15:08

Hi everyone, hope you're having a good weekend. I am sooooooooo tired now, how on earth am I going to manage a whole week at work next week!

I have started to have some crampy type pains, no bleeding or anything but am really worried now - on the 'plus' side??? I couldn't sleep last night because everytime I turned over my boobs hurt and I woke up!

As nausea is still constant, so am trying to remain positive [humm]

Fingers crossed for you cupcake

NewhereHelp · 15/03/2009 15:41

One more thing I've just thought of - does anyone else have headaches ??

Newherehelp, I suffered terribly with headaches when I was pregnant with ds, drink plenty of water and have some paracetamol and an early night and hopefully you will feel better tomorrow.

Good luck with your scan tomorrow scarlotti.

Cupcake, sorry to hear what you are going through, fingers crossed for you.

Congrats Katster37 and welcome to the November thread!

I've been feeling slightly nauseus (sp?) this afternoon and so very very tired. Don't remember feeling this tired when I was pregnant with ds but maybe I had more chance to rest then. Can't wait for the next trimester when hopefully I will have more energy, thank god ds still has long naps in the afternoon!

katster37 · 15/03/2009 19:07

Thanks for all the welcomes.
cupcake I hope you're feeling better. I definitely feel very nauseous so I hope it's a good sign for both of us!
newherehelp I have had a headache all weekend, sort of feels like a hangover headache and so I keep drinking loads (of water!) which seems to temporarily take it off. Is being thirsty normal?
usigurke I am sorry to hear of your experiences with the NHS. I was thinking of ringing my GP tomorrow to make an appointment (no chance I'l see them tomorrow - normally imposs to get an appointment) but I wasn't that impressed when I talked to my GP about TTC. One Dr told me 'all women ovulate on day 14 of their cycle'!! We will see. I would just like some reassurance and to know what happens next really, not that anyone can really reassure me!

Have just got back from Sunday lunch and all my friends and DH were knocking back the wine - it was my first time of having to make excuses and I'm sure I sounded v unconvincing!

OK well hope everyone OK and had nice weekends. Yuck, Monday tomorrow....

NewhereHelp · 15/03/2009 19:08

Thanks helips is it ok to take painkillers, I have given up everything (inc caffine which I'm thinking may be something to do with the headaches!).

Hummmm maybe I spend too much time on the laptop too!

katster37 · 15/03/2009 19:09

ps can i ask when your symptoms started? I'm sure they shouldn't start this early but I have felt dreadful all weekend - extremely tired, queasy (thought I was going to be sick on the train this afternoon) headachy and thirsty. Isn't it a bit early? Am only 4 weeks.

NewhereHelp · 15/03/2009 19:10

katster I am thirsty all the time too, so trying to drink lots, that leads to needing the loo every 2 mins - can't win can you!

NewhereHelp · 15/03/2009 19:13

I think mine started at 5 weeks, but that is going by me being 7 weeks on Tuesday BUT I did a clearblue with conception indicator and that said 2 - 3 weeks, I'm hoping it's wrong otherwise I have 2 weeks more to get to 12 weeks - LMP was 27/01/09 and I'm usually 28 days dead on????

Need to chill, don't know why I did ANOTHER test!!!!

Catitainahatita · 15/03/2009 19:37

NHH You can take paracetemol for the headache, but nothing stronger. I find those frozen gel packs work loads better if I press it onto the bit of my head that hurts }(mind you, that's with migraine type pain, I'm not sure with normal).

Cupcake I've got my fingers crossed for you. Hopefully the bleeding will stop altogether and all will be fine!

Cupcake - thinking of you.

Newhere - I had some tummy pains too but think I had tigger's problem, just makes you super twitchy doesn't it! Fingers crossed it all settles down for you too. Headaches wise, I felt the beginning of one in the car and got stressed cos I don't want to take paracetamol like I normally would. Have found drinking plenty is the key. As Kyte said, I seem drier in general, have quite a flaky forehead today .

I am finding the tiredness almost ridiculous, I could sleep anytime, anywhere. So far it's my only symptom (along with bruised boobs) so am glad of it if only to prove there is something going on in there. Not a whiff of sickness/smell sensitivity but am only 5+4 by scan, and a straw poll of my friends would suggest it starting at 7 or 8 weeks would not be unusual, so am tryting not to worry (never thought I would want to feel sick! )

Hope you've all had a lovely weekend

katster37 · 15/03/2009 19:48

NewHerehelp I think that 2-3 weeks is the longest the clearblue digital tests ever say, so even if you were 12 weeks it would say that. I am saving mine - I daren't do it! In a way I don't want to keep testing as I overanalyse the strength of the lines! Did get a lovely very dark pink one this morning though!

Yep I am also drinking a crazy amount. Can't leave the house without a full 750ml water bottle....

helips · 15/03/2009 19:50

Yes paracetamol is absolutely fine, second the frozen gel packs or have you got one of those bean bag things that you heat in the microwave (or hotwaterbottle) that you could hold against your head. I sometimes find heat more comforting when I've got a headache. Hope you feel better soon.

NewhereHelp · 15/03/2009 19:55

Thanks for all your advice, think I may try and get an early night and try and pick up a gel pack thing in the morning - I know it's silly but don't want to do anything I can blame myself for if it goes wrong iykwim.

Also, are there normally this many people on these threads - there are loads of us and there is still a fair chunk of November untouched!

weston · 15/03/2009 20:10

was funny was lying here with really bad headache which i never got first time around and reassuring to have others getting them! and also didn't think u could take anything..last time tried to buy some soothers and the pharmacist nearly imprisoned me...thirsty drinking lots...really hoping not gestinational diabetics as not way i could survive 9 months with no cream eggs...

southernbelle77 · 15/03/2009 20:13

I'm glad I'm not the only one that cried at the Colour of Money!!!

Welcome on board Katster.

Really hope all those of you worrying will be ok. I am desperately trying not to over analyse my symptoms or lack thereof. I am knackered and always thirsty but not really got much ms (although I do wake up queasy in the morning). Did another test yesterday (don't know why but makes me feel better!) and the 'pregnant' line came up before the second line! Made me feel better as I'm hoping it means there are plenty of hormones being produced!

My sister told me today that they are trying for a baby. She was NEVER going to have children so to hear her say it was lovely and I really hope it happens for them soon as she is soooo impatient and is already thinking there is something wrong as they have been trying since January!!! Did explain that that isn't long at all and not to stress, but well, she is anyway I'm sure!!

NewhereHelp · 15/03/2009 20:15

Gestaional diabetes, hadn't thought of that, I had GD in the latter part of my PG with DS2 - that was 14 years ago, guess i'd better mention it to my GP when I eventually get to see him!
