mmm, i had an elective section last time, but i can't remember exactly what I took.

It definitely included:

arnica (start taking a few days before cs)
magazines - something to take your mind off op and generally a bit of a wait til you are called down
ipod - for the same reason
mat pads
big cheap knickers
night shirt
snacks/drinks
support stockings (i was given mine the day before when i had my "pre-op")
mobile phone (even had my "baby news" message part-drafted in advance so DH could send it more easily!)
usual stuff for baby
I didn't bother with taking a CD to play during op- it was over so soon (10 mins?) and although the stitching up bit took a while, i was so busy looking at/holding DS time just flew.

My DH visited every morning and evening, so would take things away and bring new things (mostly snacks/drinks as i seemed to need a lot in between meals!)

Hello folks. Went to aquanatal class today and was pretty disappointed. It wasn't very energetic..... I'm loving yoga on monday and getting a swim before hand too. I'm off all this week so getting to do all the antenatal things I can't usually do. My friend from Uni is for a few days too with her 10 week old baby. It's lovely to hold her.

Momino · 03/03/2009 23:53

Hi all.
just catching up from the past couple of days. Welcom floozy and andrina.
hope all others are well.
dd2 had mmr yesterday and was so brave, bless her. dd1 watched intently and held a cuddly toy for dd2 to smile (awww). glad that's over! now just look forward to dc3's jabs in a few months... not far away!

bantam, i've got to get checked this fri for measuring 'large'. this baby is certainly taking everything out of me. all this choc ice cream is going to the bump .

re: TENS - I used one for both DD1/dd2 labours and have mixed view. I haven't decided to hire one this time esp because I'm not sure £30 hire is worth it. however, i may justify it with the maternity grant.

my hypnobirth CD arrived today! barely opened it but can't wait for a listen.

should go to bed so wishing you all sweet dreams and comfortable sleeping positions .

LoobyLou36 · 04/03/2009 07:12

Morning ladies.

Well after my 40 lengths in the pool yesterday I slept better last night. Bit worried tho as I haven't felt LO move much, in fact haven't felt anything all night or this morning, He/she is normally very lively - has anyone else experienced this? I am probably panicking over nothing I know - I just can't help it.

Am now sat at my desk at work not concentrating on anything except willing LO to move

LoobyLou36 · 04/03/2009 07:16

Also have low ache under bump, altho this could just be from swimming - couldn't it?

llareggub · 04/03/2009 07:40

Looby have you tried drinking something very cold? This often makes my little one jump around! They never move when you are looking for it.

LoobyLou36 · 04/03/2009 07:53

Panic Over!!

Just had an almighty kick under the ribs!

Sorry to be such an emotional wreck

FiKelly · 04/03/2009 08:19

looby sometimes i wish lo would give the wriggling a break then i can't wait for next lot! lol.. the really cold drinks/ice creams always get a reaction for me too

OP posts:
Momino · 04/03/2009 09:15

Looby, don't worry about the panic. It's normal. you'll always be worrying, 'is it moving too little? is it big enough? is it small enough?' etc.
I think the low ache is defn swimming. 40 laps ! I'm very impressed.

off to the counsellor now to get my pnd in check. going to tell her about my anxiety/paranoia/hypochondria attack. see you later.

Belgianchocolates · 04/03/2009 09:22

Good morning everyone,

I thought I'd get on here before the ap high jacks the computer again.

So much chatting has happened over the last few days, don't know if I can keep up!

re packing: for a c/s I'd say pack the same as a normal hospital bag, but just a little more of everything, because you'll be in longer. BIG knickers are definitely a must. Cheap tesco/asda ones are better than the disposable kind, there's more stretch in them! Also a nightie/night shirt rather than PJ's for that 1st day, because you'll be stuck in bed and it will be very difficult to get trousers on, especially with a catheter in situ!

re: maternity pads: 100 seems a bit OTT. I only ever had 2 packs with my other 2 and that was enough! Definitely use the thick ones. I see it enough: the thin ones lead to accidents, no matter how absorbant they claim to be! Also they're much better if your waters go. I went through a whole pack of them in a day when mine went.

Momino I'm a bit on the large side too and my mw asked me to come back a week earlier than usual. She's not too concerned though, I had to easy labours with big babies. I must have a big pelvis Seems like mine had an almighty growth spurt since this weekend though. The limbs/hands/feet feel so much bigger and solid now when I get kicked. And I got kicked hard enough tonight for me to wake up from it.

looby If you're concerned about baby's movements definitely do the iced drink thing/eat an ice cream, that usually sets them going. Giving your belly a good prod works too and if you're at home a bath tends to work, if none of it works, obviously get in touch with your hospital.

I got this health professional equipment catalogue through this week and I'm really tempted to get my DH this I hope it comes with batteries so something kicks him in the bladder every so often!

sausagenmash · 04/03/2009 10:02

Belgian have just sent that link to my dp! Am currently awaiting response....!

to the pads talk! I had a look at the mothercare ones when I was about 12 weeks and balked! Haven't used a pad since about 1987! Am preparing myself to get them though....eeergh!!

Definitely up for a London meet up! I've got 2 days to hand in my research thingy, then I'll be all happy and bouncy and more into chatting about it all!!

Jael · 04/03/2009 11:25

Hiya everyone. Haven't been on for a few days, and have just caught up. I haven't even started my hospital bag yet lol still not sure whether I'm going to try a VBAC or just stick to my elective CS. What is that Arnica a couple of you ladies mentioned? I had an emergency CS last time, so DP ended up popping to the shop to buy stuff that I hadn't packed in my bag. Can't remember who it was who said their baby weighed 3lb8oz at 31 weeks, I think it was, last week at my midwife appointment, and going on scan from 12th Feb, MW worked out baby to be just over 4lb. Anyone know how heavy the baby should be at 31 weeks? Can't help but worry my baby is huge (again) lol you should all know by now I'm a worry wart lol Jael X

llareggub · 04/03/2009 11:27

belgian I've sent that link to some pregnant friends too, with a copy to our (sometimes) unsympathetic husbands!

I've been feeling a little better back-wise, so I decided to do my Davina pre-natal workout this morning, as DS is at nursery. I really enjoyed it! It did say to leave out some exercises if you have pelvic discomfort, so I didn't do all the exercises. I have to do 20 mins of exercise or so a day to keep good blood sugar control, so this was perfect. I really enjoyed it.

I'm not sure if the baby is having a growth spurt, or whether it is simply down to DS being under the weather a bit, but I'm really tired at the moment.

sausagemash I was like you before my first pregnancy. I really wasn't looking forward to using pads because I'd never, ever used them before. Rightly or wrongly, my mother gave me tampons from my very first period as I was a swimmer as a child and couldn't miss training. The thought of using pads repulsed me. I actually found they weren't too bad and I haven't gone back to using tampons. I much prefer pads now and find they keep me, well, healthier down there!

To all those who are measuring large, I measured small in my last pregnancy and I actually ended up with a big baby and lots of amniotic fluid. The difference between bump and baby wasn't picked up, despite scans. I sometimes wonder how much there is in the science of pregnancy....

llareggub · 04/03/2009 11:33

jael have you got a personalised growth chart in your notes? I've got one and it shows what weight the baby should be, depending on which line is being followed. I had a scan at 28 weeks and my baby weighed 1400g, which is 3.1 pounds. 2 weeks later, I'm sure it weighs more! But on my chart that measurement is on the 50th percentile, so I'm not sure if you can compare between people, only with yourself and previous pregnancies, if you see what I mean!

At 26 weeks my baby was on the 9th centile, which concerned my consultant as DS1 was a lot bigger at the same stage. I'm sure belgian can tell us more about how it works.

I do know from my last pregnancy that the fundal height measurement isn't all that accurate, so don't be too concerned.

FiKelly · 04/03/2009 11:48

at my last mw app i asked about plotting bump growth and she said we're not doing a growth chart so there was no need. I have no idea why we're not doing one... I should have asked!

Lol belgian at the empathy belly i'm going to show dh when he gets home tonight.

andrina · 04/03/2009 12:24

great! there seems to be a few of us in london - sausagenmash, dandylioness and polony. shall we meet up sometime, say next week? south bank or angel (islington) are both good choices for me. i would prefer to meet on weekdays if that's ok with you ladies as weekends and nights are spent with dh.

we know we havent had much time left to start buying things. i am expecting the pram/pushchair and car seat to be delivered today. yay! very excited. the next big item is the cot and i know that cannot wait so we will be doing our big shop next week. i do have some smaller things ready as i am always buying bits here and there whenever i am out shopping.

good reminder about maternity pads. that just slips my mind completely. geez...

thanks all for sharing.

LoobyLou36 · 04/03/2009 12:47

lol at the empathy belly

ladyhelen2 · 04/03/2009 13:37

Afternoon all.

Thanks to whoever put me on "The List". I can't believe I am in the single figure count down now! 8 weeks and a bit to go. Wow.

Should I be packing the hospital bag now do you think? It feels like tempting fate somewhat but I guess if anything were to happen, I'd still need stuff wouldn't I? I could leave out the baby stuff until much nearer the time.

So, pads is what I have come up with so far. And moisturiser for my face! I really should give it more thought.

I went on the scales this morning. Have put on 1 stone 9. According to Babycentre who have a weight gain in pg calculator I should put on 2 stone 2lbs in total, so that gives me 7lbs to go in then next 8 weeks. I was quite pleased with that as I reckon I put on loads more with DS. But made the mistake of not weighing myself at all before during or after that pg. ANyone else prepared to share their weight gain???

Polony · 04/03/2009 13:42

I'm glad some of you have mentioned the comments - have been out and recieved several comments about having a big bump. So I was all, yeah, its big, so what? I think having been on this thread made it less surprising that people would offer such opinions. And in fact, I really don't think I'm so big - I'm not small, the bump is obvious, but when I look at the bump I think it looks about right to me - it looks like there is a baby who still has a couple months growing to do in there. It doesn't always feel like that and usually in the evenings I'm probably bloated as well as preggers and I think, where else can it grow?? It made me wonder if we've just hit a point where people will tell us we're big no matter what because we're very obviously pregnant. I like my bump.

A woman looked at me this morning and said to me "its a boy". She was absolutely certain. Complete stranger. It would be helpful if it were because I love the boys names on our list but the girls names just won't fit.

Andrina, Sausage, and Dandy you have it already, but my emails [email protected] if you want to organise something. Andrina I drive so maybe I could pick you up and we could meet the other two somewhere with a parking bay and a nice decaf.

Polony · 04/03/2009 13:44

That rollover ad at the top of the screen is effing annoying!

FiKelly · 04/03/2009 13:47

ladyhelen i've been monitoring my weight gain this time just out of interest... I didn't at all with DS and put on a HUUUUGE amount... but put that down to my major craving which was for chocolate! I had just about lost all of ds's pregnancy weight (6lb to go) when found out i was pregnant with #2. Have escaped the chocolate craving this time & my weight gain as of this morning is 1 stone 7lbs.... 28+5wks. So like you the calculator things are saying i'm within normal ranges. I think DS has been the other factor preventing a massive gain... he's so active i'm prob burning off a lot of what i'm eating... and lo gets the rest!

OP posts:
FiKelly · 04/03/2009 14:15

sorry can't count! i'm 29wks +5

Jael · 04/03/2009 14:47

I've got one of those growth charts in my green notes, but MW isn't filling it in, because apparently baby isn't lying right. My baby has been breech all along, has anyone elses? With my DD she layed "normally" right the way through, I don't really know much about breech, anyone know any percentages of baby not turning etc? And my mom had two transverse pregnancies, I doubt that would make any difference though, don't think the way baby lies is carried from mother to mother lol Jael X

andrina · 04/03/2009 14:48

i am positively getting bigger and clumsier by the day though weight gain isn't excessive. i am also expecting a growth spurt in the next few weeks. just hoping i will still be as mobile as i am now.

polony, thanks for leaving your email address and i've sent you an email.

sausage, dandy, hope to hear from you soon.

FiKelly · 04/03/2009 14:55

jael i don't know anything re % of babies that stay in breech position. But i do know you have plenty of time left for lo to change round. My best friend in NZ presented breech all the way through her #2 and #3 pregnancy. The babies waited until the last minute and turned when she went into labour each time!
