i'm nervously awaiting the people coming back for a 2nd viewing of our flat at 3.30pm. All ready... have a new dvd looked out to keep ds occupied and ONE kinda egg this time. Why does time always go so slow when you want it to rush by?!

OP posts:
FiKelly · 04/03/2009 15:07

typical... after it being beautifully sunny and bright all morning and lunch.. it's got dark and there's sleet/rain pouring down outside!

OP posts:
FiKelly · 04/03/2009 15:17

arrrgh! it's now snowing!!!! hope the viewers don't expect weston-super-mare to be delightfully sunny all year. Shame about bad weather as it's got rid of one our best selling features... our stunning sea views from every window all you can see is a snowy haze...

OP posts:
llareggub · 04/03/2009 15:34

Good luck with the viewing, fikelly. Fingers crossed. I am very jealous about your sea views. I grew up on the coast but now live in the Midlands and I miss the sea so much!

FiKelly · 04/03/2009 15:57

well they've gone... they were here for about 20mins... that's a good sign i think?! ds didn't try and show them round this time as he was occupied with his kinder egg and toy. Of course now they've gone the sun is out, it's stopped snowing and our glorious view is back i have no idea of what the father thought who was unable to come last time. I hate the waiting to see bit... i'm so impatient at the moment!!!

just seen my mw today, metioned my downess to her and she just said to keep an eye on it and gp if i think its getting worse.

she also done 28wk bloods today and is gonna chase up the results to see if im lacking iron as im always so tired.

measured 28cm and am 27+4wks today so that sounds pretty good to me. she aslo had a feel to see how baby was laying and thought she could feel head down already so thats good although it could always still move.

heartbeat was good and healthy and lo was moving loads while she was doing it, think she was even surprise how much it moves about!

feeling more upbeat today after seeing her and hearing everythings going ok. had a nice lie in this morning too and ds has been at pre-school all day so had nice relaxing day. not looking forward to next two days though as dh is back to work 7am - 7pm but im sure me and ds will be fine, got a mother and toddler group we go to 2moro afternoon and then he has pre-school friday afternoon so shouldnt be to troublesoom! just the mornings i dread but hopefully ill sleep better and then cope with days better.

re- hospital bag havent even thought about it yet but not being due till 31st may still have 13weeks to go so no major rush.

have started buying baby things now bottles, steriliser, crib and bedding/blankets ect.. already have all bigger items from ds up in MIL's loft which we will be getting down and going through probley mid april time. got pram, car seat, bathing/changing unit, baby gym, baby swing and tons of clothes up there just cant even begin to think where its all gonna go so im just not going till until its all here!

re- weight gain, im not really quite sure how to calculate mine as last time with ds i lost 2 stone in first five mths, then put that back on plus another 2 stone, so really through the pregnancy i put on 4 stone but only weighed two stone more than pre-pregnancy weight! and this time i also lost nearly 2 stone in first few mths and have put 1 stone 9lbs ish since then but still weigh less than i did when i fell pg [confused face!]

hope everyone else is doing ok, havent really had time to catch up probley so sorry if id missed anything important.

Momino · 04/03/2009 16:34

hi just a quick message as I'm 'at work'. There's a programme on radio 4 on Postnatal Depression which might be of interest.

will catch up later, maybe this eve. hope all are well.

sausagenmash · 04/03/2009 16:42

Matthewandbumpsmummy glad you are feeling a bit chirpier today!

Polony and Andrina and Dandy - fraid I'm still working full time and can only do weekday evenings or weekends! Southbank area sounds pretty good though...?

Have changed my whole MW care thing. Am now under a consultant midwife here at work (v handy) who I've got to know through a friend and she's doing all my ante and post natal care, will show me round the unit (which is closed to visits cos of refurb) and is going to sort out labour stuff. Wooo!

Am being a right doofus at work today. Haven't cancelled clinics when I've meant to, sending emails to wrong people, not knowing who people are.... gggrr.

And YES that thing in the top right hand corner with the bouncy tiger feet is ANNOYING!!!

pulapula · 04/03/2009 17:21

Afternoon all.

Polony- EVERYONE said my DD was going to be a boy so I started to believe it myself (although i wanted a girl so it was lovely when she came out). And then with DS (we didnt tell people we knew) most people thought he was going to be another girl! I usually guess these things wrong too...

Well i am in sunny (but cold) Blackpool on a conference with work and staying overnight. Missing the kids (apparently my DS was upset when he woke this morning and i wasnt there but I was soon forgotten when my DH mentioned the words "milk" and "telly"). Kids, eh?!

Polony · 04/03/2009 17:44

Thats funny pulapula - a few people have said "boy" to me now. I can't take it very seriously, although its fun to speculate, because people who have a gift for picking the sex have pretty good odds of getting it right - there are only two flavours to choose from! Thats kind of how I feel about the surprise thing - I will not be surprised if we have a boy, neither will I be surprised if we have a girl - now, if we had a puppy...

saus when do you finish up work? I seem to vaguely recall it might be a while away. I'm (supposed to be) working myself so a/h would probably be wiser for me too.

llareggub · 04/03/2009 18:05

Just back from Boots, and have stocked up on things for my hospital bag, and a brand new breast pump. The one I had last time was meant for occasional use and I pretty much worked the motor out, so have bought a (hopefully) more heavy duty one.

Really tempted to give the pump a go to see how much better it is, but DS has been feeding non-stop for a couple of days so I'm a bit sore. Have bought some more Lanisoh cream so might have to apply some. I'm really surprised at how sore I am, do you think he is trying to prepare me?

FiKelly · 04/03/2009 19:10

llareggub... i've been looking at breast pumps... but going to hold off until #2 arrives to see whether i manage to produce enough milk and actually be in the position i need one. I thought the medela ones looked good. Just out of interest which one did you buy this time?

Matthewandbumpsmummy so glad your mw app & chat went well and that you're feeling brighter...

OP posts:
llareggub · 04/03/2009 19:23

I bought the medela swing this time. I had a medela pump last time, but a different (cheaper) model. I bought medela again because I still have all the gubbings from the last pump, so will be able to have spares. They also use medela at my hospital, so last time got sent home with a couple of small bottles and some other bits, as they get thrown out otherwise.

I probably will start pumping soon so that I have a supply of milk in case baby does end up in SCBU or has jaundice like DS did. I had to give formula to DS when he was under the lamp, and was told they needed to ensure that he was feeding an adequate amount. If this happens again they can use my breastmilk, although I was pretty horrified at the price of the sterile storage bags in Boots!

FiKelly · 04/03/2009 19:36

I'll take a note of the swing one and keep my fingers crossed i manage to bf this time. was so gutted i couldn't last time with ds... will be so much easier than all the pfaffing with bottles everyday. But if i have to do bottles again at least i have all the stuff!

Belgianchocolates · 04/03/2009 19:43

Evening everyone,

Everyone at home seems to be on the computer today, so I don't get a chance to have a look what's happening on MN. Very annoying!

Right: growth charts. It's the only way to have a visual means of seeing how baby is growing and whether it's breech or cephalic that really doesn't matter, so I don't understand why those mw aren't doing them. As for the centile lines, the cm side is for your cmw to plot the fundal height (with a cross) and the kg side is for the scanners to plot the estimated weight (with a dot).

I can't remember now who mentioned that babycentre weight gain thingy, but apparently I've already hit the target weight for 40 weeks and I've still got 9 weeks to go.

I went to my GP's today (who is useless btw) and apparently I'm borderline anaemic. I asked to be put on iron now, because I have been tired and breathless, all symptoms of anaemia really, so I'd rather start it earlier than sooner.

My mum guessed the sex right twice. She's got a very interesting theory, basically if you carry a boy you look haggard and knackered. If it's a girl you'll look beautiful I really don't know how she managed to work out how I look during my pregnancy, considering the Channel is putting a nice distance between us, but anyhow... She's the same person who told me I looked fat on my dd's due date. See why I'm happy about that Channel being between us

sausagen that's another reason I stopped working this early: my brain wasn't working properly, who knows what I might have done to those poor women on my ward if I'd stayed!

jael apparently only 4% of babies are breech at term. Still loads of time for them to turn though. Both of my dcs didn't turn until 34 weeks, I have a feeling this one is going to be the same.

I've applied for a job today in preparation for our family's move to Kent. There was one advertised in just the right area. Scary!

FiKelly · 04/03/2009 20:03

belgian I have no idea why my mw isn't plotting anything on the chart either and i didn't like to be overly pushy about it last time... sorry to hear you're prob going on the iron tablets... you'll be needing to stock up on prunes as well as the dried figs etc. But really good luck with the job application, will keep my fingers crossed

Fikelly I hope you're going to move somewhere where you still can see the ocean. I also miss being able to see/smell/hear the ocean - I get thirsty for it! Hopefully you'll not have long to wait to sell. 20 mins sounds promising...

Llareggub that about sore boobs from your ds sounds a bit like the theory that sleep deprivation helps us to cope with more sleep deprivation...Although maybe not that bad.

Belgian, my mother is the same in asserting which it will be - and there is an ocean and a continent between us...although she's sort of giving it up because before she was so convinced it was a girl (??) that she rang up once and said "how is she?" and I said "who?" having no idea what she was talking about but now she thinks its a boy.

I had such a lovely dream the other week - I dreamed that I had our baby. In the dream I was in a state of near delirium and squatting (!) over my baby who was on the ground, I watched as he/she turned a rosy pink then I picked her/him up and started licking the after birth away! The really soppy bit is that in my dream I felt this intense love as I picked up this baby and the delirium went away...that dream was with me all the day after, I felt a bit like I'd seen my baby. Maybe i've seen too many nature shows and read too many books. But I can't believe the dream didn't reveal the flavour! All in good time.

FiKelly · 04/03/2009 20:12

dh is off doing our weekly food shop at the mo... and buying me some little baked cheesecakes (hopefully) as i got a real craving for them just before he left... Just finished listing the last of DS clothes that i'd photgraphed. So just a whole heap more to photograph and hopefully sell to make some more room. More ebay girly clothes arrived today and my under bed storage is starting to bulge so much the lids won't stay on! In my defense it's a selection stuff in lots of sizes from newborn, 1month, 0-3m, 3-6m & 6-9m. Very happy with everything too.. one lady even added extra items in the parcel free that hadn't sold! which was a very nice surprise... never had that before!

OP posts:
Polony · 04/03/2009 20:13

Er, Fi, you might have longer than 20 mins to wait...

Belgianchocolates · 04/03/2009 20:15

fi I've already started on the iron tablets. My cmw said that anaemia is one of the things that would stop me from having a home birth, so I want to nip it in the bud before it gets too bad. I'm dreading getting constipated, so I'll definitely up my fruit intake! My iron count is a lot worse than with my dd I saw, the result was on the screen. That shows how bad my job is for my health! All those shifts with no food and sometimes not even a drink have clearly taken their toll. There you go, another good reason to be on mat leave!

FiKelly · 04/03/2009 20:16

When we move we unfortunately won't have a sea view anymore... mainly as the prices of houses with sea views are out of our price range

OP posts:
Belgianchocolates · 04/03/2009 20:19

Whoops, didn't refresh.

Polony These mothers! I keep hoping that I wont turn into it, but sometimes when I hear myself talking to my children I fear it's already too late! Your dream sounded very interesting. You wouldn't be the first one who had the flavour revealed in a dream, especially one that was so emotional.

fi I forgot to say. Good luck with the sale of your house. That will be us over the summer.

FiKelly · 04/03/2009 20:24

i'm so hoping the viewers loved our place so much they'll put in an offer that is sensible and lets us move. Really trying to not get my hopes up too just in case nothing comes of it...

dandy yes, it seems exercising does help lower blood sugar, according to my consultants. Breastfeeding also lowers blood sugar, so I find it quite interesting that DS seems to be upping his milk intake. Maybe he is trying to make me better!

When I was first diagnosed I used to march briskly around the house after breakfast for 10 minutes, particularly on days when I had to test my sugars an hour after eating. I'd then go for a brisk walk at lunch time in work.

These days, I save my "exercise" for running around the park with DS, or doing some vigorous housework. I try and swim when I can too. Because I have SPD/back problems I do have to be careful about what I do. I also do the marching every couple of days.

I'm sure most people wouldn't count the above as exercise, but playing football in the park with DS really tires me out. He is pretty fast!

The nurse I saw when I was first diagnosed told me that my insulin requirements would steadily increase as my diabetes would worsen as my pregnancy progresses. As is happens, I actually think my insulin requirements are decreasing. I've forgotten to take it a few times when I've been out and about and it has made no difference to my readings. I suspect the nurse thought that I wouldn't exercise, stick to the diet and she also wasn't aware that I'm breastfeeding. She actually told me to give myself a bigger shot of insulin if I fancied cake! Her attitude basically is that on insulin you can eat normally, advice I have chosen to ignore.
