Funnily enough ever since I was a child apple juice has made me feel a bit sick. But you've made me thing, maybe something like appletiser would sort me out. I think it's the fizz I'm after!

Belgianchocolates · 01/03/2009 11:21

Scary isn't it. March. It's so much closer the whole baby thing. That's why I really need to get myself sorted and order my ds's new wardrobe!

Hypatia · 01/03/2009 12:31

Wow, yes, March seems to make everything seem closer.

I am so tired today - spent a good chunk of yesterday asleep due to a headache, and the cats kept waking me up all night because their food bowl was empty. I didn't clue in until about 6am why they were doing that.

It's beautifully sunny this morning, but yesterday was -27C with windchill so I really didn't want to go outside, even though I am dying for a walk. I can't wait until spring is here, I am tired of winter now, it's been here since October.

Perhaps it will be a bit more mild today. I have designs on getting some fabric to slipcover an old sofa.

Hope you all are having a nice Sunday.

llareggub · 01/03/2009 12:35

Blimey Hyptia where are you?! It is quite warm and sunnt here so I've pegged my washing out. Spring may have sprung at last!

Febes · 01/03/2009 12:42

Hi everyone. I went to ikea again today for DDs curtains but couldn't find any so ended up getting a black out blind instead so at least she can move in to her room once the carpet is down on Friday. I was so tired yesterday and ended up fighting with DH and then I went to bed at 6.30pm when DD went. I woke a couple of times for the loo but slept 12 hours or so until DD woke up.
I have SPD come back so I'm feeling about that. I had it pretty bad in my last pregnacy so I am feeling upset it has come back. What is working the best for those of you who are also suffering?

Polony · 01/03/2009 13:01

Belgian I had a craving for coke a while back. I couldn't understand why because I'm not a big fan of it at the best of times. It passed and I didn't have any of it because its just so full of things that can't be much good for us or babies right now. Maybe its to do with being tired - I was craving coffee as well (although I decided that one was just that I missed the taste etc of coffee because as I mentioned a while back, when it comes to drinking it my stomach says no unless its decaf). The only other thing I remember being told years ago is that coke is full of potassium which could have something to do with it. As for cider - I was craving that too at Christmas time and we bought a whole pile of lovely cider - I managed half a glass a couple of times before I had to admit I couldn't drink it. Its so hard to know whether thats my first time pg paranoia winning or something my body is up to. But maybe what your body could do with is a cider. Or a coke. Maybe one day there'll be one of those articles in the paper "cider/coke proven to be good for foetal development at beginning of third trimester" and then everyone'll be drinking it while pg.

llareggub · 01/03/2009 13:04

Febes what seems to be working for me is a combination of paracetamol and paying particular attention to my posture. I find sitting upright, and keeping my knees together (oh how my teacher at school would be proud) as much as possible. Even turning over in bed is better with my knees together!

Last night was really bad and I found that the heated seats in the car made a real difference, so I've bought one of those heated gel pad things from Boots.

In my last pregnancy I learnt that doing too much was a problem but doing too little was also bad. I've noticed that if I spend too long in one position then I am quite stiff, so an evening in front of the television leaves me feeling quite bad. My ironing pile is dwindling rapidly as a result!

Each day I try and build in some time walking around, usually at the park with DS, but the other day we spent too long in the park, followed by the supermarket, and I was exhausted afterwards. So planning the day, with rest, is definitely the way forward!

That said, I don't think I'm bad enough for physio and stuff like that, as I think the things I am doing are quite effective. Sometimes the pain does get too much, and I posted recently about wanting more painkillers!

I'm also wondering if my back is bad because we went away at the weekend and I slept in 2 really uncomfortable beds. All of my post-pregnancy back problems went away after buying a memory foam bed and pillow and now when I sleep on a normal bed, with lots of pillows, I do suffer for it! (Just call me princess, eh?)

Polony · 01/03/2009 13:12

Last weekend I drank two bottles of ginger beer. Would that help Belgian? And theres this nice apple juice that has ginger in it that I've been slugging back, in a wierd way it sort of hits the fizzy drink spot.

Hypatia you must be very sick of the cold by now.

I have to confess that, being from a hot climate, I'm loving this business of 8 degrees celcius being t shirt weather for me. Being knocked up in winter is definitely the way to go. Hopefully though this will be spring and not that too-cold-for-spring-too-warm-for-winter thing we've been having the past few years.

Sorry to hear people are having trouble sleeping. I'm having trouble staying awake if its any consolation.

FiKelly · 01/03/2009 14:23

Afternoon everyone... i'm feeling not quite so breathless and uncomfortable now. Probably because i managed to get to the loo this morning after guzzling a fair amount of welch's purple grape juice over the last 2 days!

I'm another night insomnia owl who is definitely wishing she went to sleep earlier last night... DS was up at 3am & 4.45am and then up raring to go full of beans wanting breakfast at 6.30am! Luckily i'm taking him to a bouncy castle 3rd birthday party shortly so it should wear him out and fingers crossed we'll all get an undisturbed nights sleep tonight.

It is a gloriously sunny day here too & it's really lifted my tired spirits

Also a bit freaked out it's march already! But also getting very excited at the same time

Polony Belgian* - a few weeks back I too couldn't get enough of coke particularly in the evenings with dinner, I don't normally drink it but just went with the fact that my body was craving something - probably sugar! glad to say it has gone now and back to diluting juice!

Lovely DH has taken DS out for the day and let me sleep / rest - including visiting my granny in hospital as it is her birthday today.

Slept, showered and made soup - feeling washed out but a bit better - making and eating soup comforts me. I will make some nice food for tea also as we have been eating junk lately - but thinking of taking a couple of days off work - this week just to rest up a bit more. Been looking through the nice aussie man Bill Granger recipe book which has some yummy yet fairly simple stuff in it - so a couple of hours pottering / hoovering / ironing and cooking - it's weird what relaxes you isn't it?

runningmonkey · 01/03/2009 15:33

Hi All,
Happy St David's day!

Wierdly I've been craving coke too, had a glass of the caffeine free stuff yesterday and promptly felt sick tho. Typical.

I'm suffering today, the baby seems to be sitting really low down and right on my pubic bone which is making walking painful and has so far made me make about 314 trips to the loo. I think I'll just have to sit on the sofa and mumsnet all afternoon

I went into town earlier and bought one of those long pillow things in an attempt to get some better sleep, will report back if it helps tomorrow.

Rosie I know what you mean about soup. My favourite comfort food. There is a lovely potato, leek and chickpea one in the very first Jamie Olive book that is my absolute favourite, I'll see if I can find a copy of the recipe for you if you like the sound of it.

Sorry I know its a few pages back but llareggub lol at your sebastien chabal attraction. You are not the only one

off to check the roast dinner. back later.

rosielady · 01/03/2009 15:50

Runningmonkey I have a few Jamie Oliver books so I will look through to see if I can find it.

May have to cook a roast dinner now that you have mentioned it!

Polony · 01/03/2009 16:14

Oh yeah llareggub I was impressed at that too. Sexy in a neanderthal kinda way. I watch the rugby for a perve myself.

Polony · 01/03/2009 16:15

Although imagine what his ears must be like.

Polony · 01/03/2009 16:40

Fi I've found that lightening the load helps that tight belly feeling - theres just not that much room in there anymore is there? Glad you're feeling better.

Rosie hope your grandmother is doing ok. Birthdays in hospital don't sound like fun (my Nan had her 91st in hospital) but hope it brightened things for her.

Febes · 01/03/2009 16:53

Thanks for the tips Llarggub. I dealt with it in much the same way last time, knees together, paracetamol etc. I'm a bit worried as I want to work right up to the end this time and don't want to be in too much pain.
I craved coke and coffee with DD in the final few months so there must be something in it. I thought it was the energy boost I needed.

LoobyLou36 · 01/03/2009 17:29

This thread really moves fast. Haven't been on here since Friday night.
Lovely day today, have spent it in the garden painting galvanised steel planters, cleaning out chickens, potting on geraniums, etc. I am knackered now tho and my back and legs are killing me.
It's gone chilly now so DH has lit the fire in the living room and I am sat propped up by lots of cushions on the sofa with my laptop.

LoobyLou36 · 01/03/2009 17:39

It's our 2nd wedding anniversary in a couple of weeks so I'm on the net searching for a cottage to rent for a couple of nights. We're thinking of going down to Cornwall and staying near the Eden Project - I've been there before but DH hasn't, we're both keen on gardening so I think he'll find it interesting.

TBH we just need a break for a few days I think as we know we will be tired and busy when LO arrives.

Gert2a · 01/03/2009 17:46

Hi All,

What a lovely day it's been - in West Yorkshire anyway!

runningmonkey I'm currently sleeping with a long pillow, and whilst it makes the bed a little cramped it's helping with comfort during the night and taking away any pelvic pain. Hope you find it useful.

Been to watch my local rugby league team play today in the local derby, it was my BIL's last game before he goes to Australia to play there for a year. We won, which was marvellous, but am putting it down in part to my DH donning the mascot costume (large ram with big cheesy grin ). Amazed myself by being able to stand up for the whole game!

Got a couple of hours to myself now as DH is now at his second rugby game of the day in Leeds, so not really sure what to do with self. Hungry and not really sure what to eat. Am all of a to do!

llareggub · 01/03/2009 18:02

Looby that area of Cornwall is my favourite! We always stay here as it has such great facilities for children and isn't far from Eden.

Hypatia · 01/03/2009 18:58

llareggub I am in Canada - Peterborough, Ontario - near Toronto. Everyone here is starting to get cabin fever - the first couple days of 10C you see everyone out in t-shirts and shorts basking in the sun because we can't wait for summer. Hopefully that will come soon - it was 2C at the end of last week briefly and it felt so warm!

Although when it is +38C with humidex in the summer, we are all wishing for it to be 40 below

Belgianchocolates · 01/03/2009 18:59

llareggub I find the same with the SPD sitting down all the time makes it worse as well as walking too much, but unfortunately I've found that the last few days walking around too much means nothing more than a 30min walk around the shops or something and that really isn't that much excercise in my mind. I've started wearing my support thing all day long too, but it just doesn't seem enough. I think I might get back to my physio and see what else can be done.

I think my coke craving stems from my tiredness. I find it helps me through night shifts, so I suppose my body just wants something to help it stay awake! Don't know what the cider means, though Polony the potassium thing is interesting, because I have been having leg cramps + restless legs, which I think they say could be a lack of potassium. Hmm maybe I should eat more bananas (yuk) and up my daily intake of dried apricots!

Went to look around for a wardrobe for my ds. It was a big dissapointment. I need something with internal shelving and reasonably priced, but all I can find is rickety Argos things or £1,000 beautiful things, nothing inbetween (sigh) On top of it dh is claiming that we don't need a new wardrobe for ds, even though it's not big enough + doesn't have any shelves which means I can't empty out his chest of drawers, so I've got space for baby's clothes. DH's argument is that we will move house in 12-18 months and we might possible end up in a house with built in wardrobes and so it's not worth spending money on new furniture. Now that's the worst argument ever. I mean what am I supposed to do in the mean time. Leave all the baby stuff in carrier bags in my wardrobe??? Rant over...

Gert2a · 01/03/2009 19:34

Belgian - bananas - eat Nigella Lawson's banana cake or better still chocolate banana cake. Or is that defeating the object?!

I need a bib, just spilt chocolate icecream all down me. Need to practice eating in the new sitting positions I'm having to adopt.

pulapula · 01/03/2009 20:01

Evening all, been away for the weekend and had 6 pages (!) to skim through- you have been busy chatting.

Chocolatebunnies- the sling has arrived thanks, but i've requested some instructions from the freedom slings company as I wouldn't have a clue looking at it!

re. breast shells - i've heard some people leak and some don't, but if you find out you're a leaker, i would definitely recommend these- they cost around £4 from boots, but they saved me tons of breastpads which made them absolutely worth their money. I often leaked 2-3oz (60-90ml) per feed, which I used to add to my expressed breast milk. As for breast pads (which i needed at night and when out and about), I also realised it was worth paying extra for the ultra-thin/untra-absorbent ones (tommee tippee/lansinoh...) as I found the cheap ones couldn't hold much and washable ones were even worse (and also got chewed up in my washing machine so cost me a new machine )

As for lansinoh cream, worth asking your community midwife or health visitor for some free samples as mine gave me loads and you don't need much so i never needed to buy any.

ladyhelen2 · 01/03/2009 20:41

belgian Habitat have a lovely kids wardrobe with drawers and shelves. Its in the region of £450 so not cheap but you know you always get quality stuff there. I really wanted it for my DS but it doesn't quite fit in his new room (windows and eaves are the problem).

I've been craving bananas natural yoghurt and maple syrup. Marginally more healthy than bacon butties which was my last. i've been getting the calf cramp thing so maybe my body is craving the potasium???

Back ache much better today after three days of pretty much constant pain. Notreally done anything different so wonder why?
