I too must go to bed... ds has been waking up between 5.45 and 6.30 most days this week! Been a bit of a shock to the old system as he normally sleeps till 7.15/30ish. Should also go and do my VBAC natal hypnotherapy before i nod off... although every time i've done it so far i'm yet to remember the last bit of the session as i suddenly become aware that it's finished!

Off to bed too for the same hypno and same effect - woke up last night with sore ears as phones still in! Snap too with the dawn chorus risings - 6am this morning, 530 yesterday.... Plus a demand for a BOK at 0045 - not had middle of the night bottles for months!!!!

night night from me as well. was going to go upstairs with a bit of olive oil... but decided against it!

Fi Stop posting distracting links when I've so much to catch up on. Lol at 'wafer thin piece' of chocolate. DS is a bit like Mr Creosote at the moment. He went 48 hours without vomiting, and then did a mega puke in his cot. Think it's like Belgian said and it's an irritated stomach.

Febes Nipple stimulation was good for me. I used my thumb to flick them gently up and down and got such strong uterine cramps from it I had to stop. If you go overdue ladies I can't recommend it enough.

Been up for ages with Ds. He seems to be back in his Mr Creosote phase, eating 3 weetabix for breakfast at 6am. I suppose you would if you vomited your whole days worth of food.

FiKelly · 28/02/2009 08:29

jennster your poor ds I just hate it when they're poorly.. i hope he gets a bit better today. ds slept longer this am.. 7 feel lot more rested for getting that extra hour. i ended up eating half my cadbury chocolate wishing egg last night.. felt very naughty!

Thanks Fi. He's ok in himself. I'm not worried, it's all the extra washing involved. At least I'm on holiday next week so if he's ill I won't have to take time off. Of course I'd rather he went to nursery so I can sort the house out but hey.

Febes · 28/02/2009 09:16

Morning!! DD was up at 6.30am so feeling a litle bleary but she is watching Cbeebies now so I'm having a wee rest with MN.
I'm going to be a good mumy today and take her to the park and let her run around we haven't been still she started walking so hopefully there will be more she can play on now.
I think we will go to Clarks to get fitted for shoes too. She has got some from Adams kids but they are velcro so get flung off all the time.

Perineal massgage should be uncomfortable if you do it right as you are stretching it. Mum said to oil up your hand then oil around the perinum area and press on it for about 10 seconds at a time so you can feel a slightly burning stretch. My fanjo felt fine straight after birth so I can recommend it. I had sex about 2 and a half weeks after having DD and it was fine. Didn't do it again for a while although that wasn't because of fanjo problems , we were both bloody knackered!!

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 28/02/2009 09:21

Jennster

DD2 is just sitting eating a cheese and dairylea sandwich, having already had breakfast at 7ish. I've caught her eyeing up the croissants too.

You wouldn't believe that she'd been violently sick all over the living room last night Nothing better than being 7 months pregnant and down on your hands and knees mopping up vom.

DD1 came back from week-long school trip yesterday, me & DD2 went to meet her at school from the bus, got a grunt from her, that was about it. Eventually got a grudging 'ta mum' after I'd done my impression of a broken-down pack mule, lugging her suitcase, backpack and big bag of dirty washing aaaaaaaallllll the way home. Pre-teens are so brilliant!!!!!!!

Asked work to let me cut down to part-time, SPD and now high blood pressure with headaches (have gone from 'abnormally low' blood pressure to high ). There is no benefit to them or me apparently so I either struggle on full-time (impossible) or start ML now (at around 29 weeks). How bored will I be? I should probably be grateful but I'm just a bit scared, it's too early for me, but I can't carry on full-time.

Meh.

ladyhelen2 · 28/02/2009 10:16

Must admit the thought of perienniel massage makes me quite uncomfortable! Can you do it yourself or do you need that extra pair of hands?? Although DH and I have been together a LONG time, I really don't fancy him assisting with this particular part of pregnancy.

I am also getting very nervous and just a little bit panicky about breast feeding. It didn't really work with DS. He lost over a lb of his body weight in the first 5 days and considering he was only 7lb 6 at birth, that is a lot. Clearly the BF wasn't working so we started mixed feeding. After 6 weeks of this, I gave up BF completely.

I really want to try BF again but those first few days are now beginning to concern me. I can't get my head round the milk coming in at day 3 or 4 ( my milk never seemed to come in with DS - no engorgement or anything). There is enough in your boobs to keep baby going until then, isn't there? I know its a daft question but with the experience of DS losing so much weight in less then a week, I am getting quite nervous about it.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 28/02/2009 10:29

ladyhelen2

Both my DD's lost weight in their first week and both were breast-fed - a lot of babies lose some bodyweight in their first week. Both of mine went on to be fat babies

I think my DH would be over the moon to be asked to assist with perieneal (however you spell it) massage. However, don't think I need it - 2 fanjular births and no tears/stitches/anything. Obviously I'm VERY STRETCHY down there

ladyhelen2 · 28/02/2009 10:38

Its just he went down from 7lb 6 to 5lb 15 in 5 days. A little bit more than the margin expected. It was quite terrifying at the time. I think we were on the verge of being readmitted. Its just making me a bit apprehensive about this time.

Belgianchocolates · 28/02/2009 11:17

Morning everyone.

Very tired today. 1st night with dh back is never good. This extra body in bed really made me overheat big time. Just had a bath to cool down and relax a bit.

The dcs accused the cat of hiding my clothes in a cupboard today Needless to say I told them that I very much doubted that. I'd 've thought a 7yo could have come up with a better story!

Jennster Your ds really does sound like my dd was, perfectly fine and then sudden unexplained vomitting followed by eating as normal again. It took her about a week to get over it.

re: BF Nowadays most placed don't weight babies as often anymore, just because it makes mums loose confidence. If baby is weeing and pooing it should be OK. My ds lost a bit too much in the beginning too, but once he got established he gained loads and loads of weight and made well up for it . I think a lot of the success in bf is in your head too. The more relaxed you're about the whole thing, the better it will work, because the better oxytocin release and resulting hormonal cycle will be. It's difficult in a bottle feeding society, where we are used to seeing how much babies are feeding, to learn to accept that you'll never know how much baby takes and that that is OK. All you can do is take the other clues, such as wet and dirty nappies and a period of being settled between feeds. Though the latter is a bit difficult, because the range of normal is so big in bf, i.e. it's normal to have a baby who feeds for hours and it's equally normally to have a baby who feeds for 15 mins every 2-3h.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 28/02/2009 11:24

ladyhelen2

Just realised my post sounded a little patronising, sorry! Half watching what I'm typing and half watching DD2 being stunt-child, leaping off the sofa etc. And listening to DD1 excitedly telling me about her week away (abseiling, canoeing, rock-climbing, etc), she has finally surfaced and deigned to speak to me and she's back to being a 10 year old, rather than a teenager.

And how is everyone today, hope everyone who's been having a rough time for various reasons is feeling better.

Third Trimester now, phew!!

Belgianchocolates · 28/02/2009 11:37

grumpy both me and llareggub have gone on ML at 29 weeks. I had sort of no choice either, having a physically demanding job with SPD/PGP just doesn't go. I must say. Even after my 1st week I'm already bored. I think like llareggub I've set myself a whole bunch of tasks, so I'm working on tidying the living room and sorting out the toys down there and slowly as far as my pelvis allows I'm working my way up to the bedrooms. Gives me something to do I suppose and baby will arrive in a tidy house

I tried my preparing for home birth cd last night and heard the first relaxation bit and then woke up to the words: "and at the count of five open your eyes" I missed the whole important bit! I'll try listening to it during the day next time!

llareggub · 28/02/2009 12:50

grumpy would you say you are fit to work? If not, you could get signed off rather than start maternity leave. I'm off now because it suits me annual leave wise to tack my accrued leave onto the end, giving me 13 months off. Belgian is right, I have set myself some tasks to complete before the baby comes. I'm tackling them like a job, so weekends are just for relaxing.

divedaisy · 28/02/2009 14:13

Is there not a time limit on when you can go on sick leave rather than ML?? I think there's a point when you have to go on ML if you're unable to work...

Cant stay here for long - DH home this evening from Bulgaria ski trip and ds &I are picking him up from the airport. Want to get there early so we can watch the planes land & take off for a while!

got a bit of house work done. The hardest bit I'm finding is putting on a clean duvet cover - it is really hard work!! At least tonight I have the luxury of clean fresh bedlinen! Bliss. Bending over to pick things up off the floor is beginning to get impossible too - if you heard the puffs of me doing it you'd think I'd just run a marathon!

Away to get a shower and glammed up for DH's return home!!! Maybe see you all later! If not have a lovely evening.

Hope I get home in time for Casualty.....!! Though I will be missing ireland rugby - so if any of you fancy cheering them on for me I'd appreciate it!!! Come on Ireland!!!

llareggub · 28/02/2009 14:56

divedaisy yes there is a time limit, and it is any time after 36 weeks before the EDD. So grumpy if you aren't fit for work, you can safely be signed off sick without it triggering your maternity leave.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 28/02/2009 16:08

Thank you all, unfortunately, it would appear that I have been given a stark choice of stay full-time and risk going off sick/making myself feel shite and TBH, incurring the wrath of the Company (already feel like a failure for taking time off when 'just pregnant') or just going on ML now. Unfortunately, sick-leave is a contentious subject where I work, as a girl who left a few months ago really, really took the piss and had average of a day off a week. The Company are really hard on sick-leave now thanks to the workshy one!!

The only plus side is that DH has asked if I would go in and work for him a couple of days a week, doing his accounts, sorting deliveries, that sort of thing. I think he wants me to leave work as he's pointed out that I'm in a lot less pain and am happier when I haven't been at work. However, I think that's partly down to working mother guilt, having worked full-time since DD2 was 8 months old. Now I'm facing the opposite, that of being a SAHM and I'm terrified!!! I'm one of those people who can never be happy obviously

Just took DD2 to McDonalds (yes, yes, I will burn in Hell and she will become obese and I have sent her to an early grave etc etc) and had dbl cheeseburger and fries too. Now I'm paranoid about the salt, with my BP having risen. I have never had to worry about salt before............

Sorry for the essay and by the way, the person telling me all this stuff about ML at work is the HR Hag I have mentioned before who is tactless and talked about me 'stuffing my face' etc. So, not the most supportive of pregnancy and cannot bear to hear about any pregnancy-related problem, so have had to hint subtly at various problems I've had. She said 'why don't you just put you feet up and eat lots more chocolate for 10 weeks and get fat?' Erm, thanks?

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 28/02/2009 16:10

put your feet up, not you

too much salt and fat obviously and not enough chocolate......

Belgianchocolates · 28/02/2009 16:53

grumpy Did she really say that about putting your feet up and eating chocolate?! That's so out of order! I always thought that if you need to go on long term pregnancy related sick leave that your employer could make you have ML instead once you reached 29 weeks, not 36. I might be wrong. Actually, just had a look. I was wrong. Your sick leave would be justified though, wouldn't it. It wouldn't be fair for them to expect you to take it if you can be signed off sick.

Just got back from a b'day party with my dd. She got chased by lots of boys and had loads of fun. I had a nice chat with some of the mums and got to know them a little, which is nice, because I didn't really know any of them. It's difficult to see who is who at picking up time after school.

sausagenmash · 28/02/2009 18:17

OMG! You turn your back for a few days to go oop north, and theres a gazillion pages to read!!

So I caught up with a few nursey chums and everyone was 'oooh look at you' and I had to leave the dinner around 9.30pm as I was so tired, and by then it was just booze anyway, and it was 'oooh saus, this is SO unlike you, off to bed early, hahahaha' Glad to come home in the end, to be honest. Had to traipse from Euston to London Bridge on the tube with a little suitcase thing - people can be SO unhelpful and pushy and squashy!

We went to the babyshow today and spent a small fortune. Actually, I saved nearly £300 on my bugaboo and carseat (hurrah!!), and we got a nice plain dp-use-able jujuthingy bag, £14 off normal price. Loads of people were giving away bits and bobs (got some free baby shampoo, bepanthen, nipple pads, fairy and persil, a teabag (? - organic, natch) and a load of other 'tosh' as dp calls it (ie, nice cute clothes and some toys!!) We got there on opening at 9.30 which was a good job, as by the time we left around 12ish, it was HEAVING. Came back, was fed cheese on toast and tea, then promptly fell asleep.

Going to friends for dinner tonight to see brainy lecturer friend AGAIN to go over my research proposal AGAIN which my tutor has ripped to shreds AGAIN. Am getting mightily f&%@ed off with it!!! (cue countdown to 6th March...)

Soo... in reply to your comments etc..

Flippineck - soz I haven't got back to you about the skirt - yes, it is a twirly one, prob not what you are after. Soz.

Looby - glad you asked about bottles - I hadn't a clue either!

Polony - can I come to that Malaysian beach with you to slurp muchos banana daiquiris?!

Fikelly - Sheesh - what a funny thread re that woman bf'ing in the juice/crisps aisle! Theres a load of bloshie people on MN!! Am steering well clear!!

Febes etc - perineal massage?! WHAT? WHY?!

Uuhgghg I have to go and slurp some gaviscon. My cheesetoastie has come back to haunt me...

sausagenmash · 28/02/2009 18:19

Clearly, I meant bolshie and not bloshie. Although I quite like the sound of bloshie.

Polony · 28/02/2009 18:25

Grumpy your HR person seems to be the one taking the piss with comments like that!
