looby can't wait to meet lo either. The mystery of the sex will then finally be revealed, I'll find out if this one does have a lot of hair (1st pregnancy with heartburn!) AND this horrible PGP should just dissapear.

llare Hope you'll get your back pain sorted soon. Just make sure you make it clear that you don't think it's just sciatica and that you'd like to be assessed by a physio, because a lot of GP and MW's will still brush it off as 'just' sciatica.

Polony · 27/02/2009 22:02

febes I read about perineal massage...sounds like a good shag would cover all angles...if only.

Looby I'm glad after everything thats been going on to hear that you're happy and excited. I'm the opposite - the thought of giving birth isn't scaring me as much as the terror of becoming someones mother. I feel like 12 weeks is not enough time. I have days where our kitten is too much for me and wonder what sort of mother I'll be. What am I going to sing to my baby?? I know lots of songs but can't seem to think of any I know all the words to except for this song I know about head lice. I'm doomed. Well our baby is.

Thanks for doing the list Fi.

Momino · 27/02/2009 22:12

about Perineal massage - makes me feel a bit, uh, queesy (how do you spell queezy?).

Febes · 27/02/2009 22:26

Perinum massage is horrid and so not like a good shag at all but if it saves the perinum its worth it. I had a slight graze last time but then again DD was small 5 pounds 11 so maybe I was lucky. I think you can start massaging it from 35 weeks on but I only did it a few weeks before. It hurts and feels bloody awful, but not as bad a child birth

Belgianchocolates · 27/02/2009 22:26

Momino I'm feeling the same as you when thinking about perineal massage. I think I'll give it a miss and risk tearing (a little) again. Oh and I'll try to control myself during the pushing bit, that should hopefully do the trick too.

Polony You'll be fine as a mum. We all go through the doubts. I can't seem to keep plants alive, but both my dcs have survived so far and they seem to like me too!

Anyway. Bedtime now.

Momino · 27/02/2009 22:31

yeh, Belgian, i'm going to give it a miss. i tore with both girls but think if i relax a bit more this time and work with the contractions. like you said, control myself!

FiKelly · 27/02/2009 22:34

Polony don't worry about the song singing... i was the same... could remember chorus bits but not the whole thing... by the time you've been to a few baby & toddler play groups etc you'll be singing all the songs without even thinking about it! I'm also no good with plants... I have only one left that seems to be very forgiving of me forgetting to water it. I have very occasionally forgotten to feed our dog his breakfast when i get up and haven't realised until lunchtime when i'm wondering why he's hankering after what i'm eating!

Ilaregrub - I mentioned earlier on that my GP told me Co-Codamol was OK to use during pregnancy (I take the 30mg codeine/500mg paracetamol dose and I think they are only available on prescription).

My understanding of SPD/PGP is that it can include sciatica pain also. The coccyx is the part of the spine where the sciatic nerve emerges from and also joins the spine to the pelvis. So because SPD/PGP is pains that originate from the pelvis it includes pubic, hip, back pains and that includes sciatica! Sorry for the long winded explaination and I hope it makes sense and more importantly is right! ANyway that's what my physio told me the last time I had it.

Re BF - I bf ds for about 2 months before I had to stop. I bought breast pads etc to collect leaks and drips and never needed them. So I have about 2 packs from last time!! I found at times it was painful and I got tired expecially when ds used my nipples as a comforter rather than for a feed. I also found it hard to be confident he got enough - especially when he'd cry after a feed and be put down to go to sleep. At times I didnt know if I was coming or going!

LoobyLou - you got the dates right on the list - well done! I was going to do it tonight but you beat me to it!

DS made it to his beavers night out. Strong warm dilutable juice and some lactulose did the job! Glad he was able to go cos he enjoyed it and I got a bit of shopping done. I was very disappointed that the Boots in the shopping centre didn't stock their eco nappies... and I couldn't find any kimono vests either - so got the usual ones and a sleeping bag as I found they were fantastic for keeping baby warm.

FiKelly · 27/02/2009 22:36

I too did the perineal massage last time... TBH I really can't be bothered this time!

llareggub · 27/02/2009 22:38

Polony I think it is normal and probably very healthy to have doubts. I know I still have them and I've been a mother for over 2 years now. So please don't worry.

Momino · 27/02/2009 22:39

do you think it helped Fi?

llareggub · 27/02/2009 22:41

Thanks divedaisy my hip, pelvis and lower back is definitely the offending areas! I'm glad I can take something a little stronger, and will hound my GP for it next week. I'm currently sitting with my feet up, which seems to be helping.

Well, there ends my first week of maternity leave! I've really enjoyed it and have spent a good week sorting out the downstairs so it now looks vaguely presentable. I refuse to touch the play room, there seems little point! Next week, the upstairs. Gulp. There is lots to do up there...

FiKelly · 27/02/2009 22:42

momino It didn't help last time but nothing to do with the massage... i just ended up having an unexpected EmCS so never got the chance to find out

Right night night ladies. I'm knackered. Sleep well.

FiKelly · 27/02/2009 22:44

oh dear... i've opened the chocolate to have a small piece with my glass of milk... but seem to be munching a bit more of it than i planned!!!

OP posts:
Momino · 27/02/2009 22:49

well I've got a tub of chocolate ice cream and eating straight out of it instead of dishing out a sensible portion into a bowl.

FiKelly · 27/02/2009 22:50

lol i don't feel so bad now

detsy · 27/02/2009 22:57

Surely perineal massage shouldn't hurt?? I didn't do any BTW and got a 2nd degree tear which I'm hoping won't happen again (got infected and was pretty painful) Think I'd have still torn anyway as I used to be little in the nether regions (hopefully still am ) In fact I distinctly remember my MW telling my mum that I had high and tight fanjo... don't think that sthe case any more tho....

detsy · 27/02/2009 22:57

Obv she didn't use the word fanjo...

Momino · 27/02/2009 23:00

if you tear once is it common to do so again? I tore both births but am hoping to avoid this one with a bit more concentration and relaxation.

detsy · 27/02/2009 23:03

Argh momi I was hoping NOT. Was also my fault as Lotti got stuck with head halfway out and nose squashed and it kinda hurt so on my next contraction I went for it like a mad woman and subsequently tore. Like u say - hopefully with some more listening and relaxing we should be better this time...??!

FiKelly · 27/02/2009 23:03

I don't remember it hurting but i do remember the 1st lot of oil i bought specially to do the massage stung really badly when i used it for the 1st time.... ouch! so much so I had to rush off to the bathroom to wash it out to stop the burning sensation... can't remember which one it was but it was supposed to be the right one for the job but the 2nd oil i got was no problem. I don't have either of them now... and have no desire to figure out again which one was the right and wrong one

OP posts:
detsy · 27/02/2009 23:04

For the first timers - she only got stuck for a min as I just ran out of contraction at an inopportune moment (typical!!) And, if I can give birth then anyone can!

divedaisy · 27/02/2009 23:05

Oh my legs are doing their own thing!! Every now and then they do a mini Irish Jig!!! When I was walking around the shopping centre my legs got very tingly - think it was the blood flowing!!! But now, OMG - they are definately independant of my control... so I'm going to go to bed and hopefully the cool sheets and elevation will help!! Riverdance eat your heart out!!!

Nite nite xx

detsy · 27/02/2009 23:06

Very funny Fi I thought you could just use olive oil. I'd just end up with thrush whatever I used so won't be bothering
