Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Cooperoo · 15/04/2005 15:28

Thanks Lua. I am looking forward to getting it[ grin].
I am sorry you had a shocker at the hospital. I am with you on waiting until your due date though. As you say your scan showed everything was normal and there is a professional (the consultant) who agrees with you. Good Luck.
KVG - I know what it is like to be worried by people. I had the opposite problem to you...and in fact am still getting the 'gosh you are small' comments. I actually feel huge now as I am now the size I was when I had dd. It is exciting for me to have a visible bump. It is an sensitive issue isn't it and has been well commented on in these threads so obviously something that affects us all. Don't be scared of your labour either. It will happen and it will be OK. Trust yourself and everything you have learnt. I know I have been terrified at times and in tears telling DH I can't do it so I am giving myself some advice there too.....

Just sticking my nose in again

Been potty training ds (started last monday) and he's doing brilliantly - now dry and clean for the last 3 days! I thought I'd better get a move on so that I don't have 2 lots of nappies to wash! So far so good...

Can anyone recommend a cheap TENS machine hire site? I got my TENS last time round for £16 for 4 weeks, so I know I don't have to fork out loads, but I can't find the place I got it from.

Also - I'm sure it's been discussed already by now, but has anybody used both electric and hand breast pumps and do you have a preference. I used the Avent ISIS last time round and it was ok, but I wondered if the Medela was significantly better enough to justify buying one??

Just found some photos of me preggers with ds at the same stage I'm at now and I was sooooo huge and puffy. This time round I look much healthier and with a very compact bump - just as well really cos I imagine an enormous bubba sitting on my already v sore pelvis would make things ten times worse.

Weird to think that our birth announcements could start appearing in 5 weeks or so - freaky

Best wishes everyone - till the next time my internet connection behaves

tribpot · 15/04/2005 16:07

KVG - poor you about your mum's comments. I'm sure she didn't mean anything by it. I remember a friend of mine who looked absolutely huge by the time she was at my stage, I mean massively more pregnant than I look. I thought 'my god, she is going to explode by 9 months'. Well, of course she didn't and her baby was perfectly normal in size as well! Just goes to show.

As to the job, it's with the NHS itself, not with Accenture. I turned down a job with them last summer and very glad I did, quite frankly. A friend of mine worked with them briefly on the NHS project - briefly because like nearly everyone taken on at the same time as him he left as soon as he could find another job. There were even people negotiating to return to their old jobs. V glad I didn't cart dh up to Leeds for that mess. Hope your friend has had better luck with the project, anyway!

Lua, sounds a bit worrying that two doctors gave you two different stories in the space of a few minutes! Maybe worth discussing with the midwife in a bit more detail?

Lua · 15/04/2005 16:08

Hi Mcmudda! Nice to hear from you.
FWIW, I used both an eletrical and a manual medela last time. Didn't find any significant difference in the outcome. Actually though I was getting a bit more with manual. So I'm sticking with manual this time around. Didn't like how far the eletrical was pulling things IYKWIM....
However, it was a 2nd hand eletrical, so perhaps that could be why it wasn't more effective?!

KVG - doctors reason for induction is that is the book rules of management for gestational diabetes. Apparently there is some small risk of being stillborn for which the causes are not well understood....

mcmudda · 15/04/2005 16:11

Thanks Lua - don't fancy the excessive pulling! If there's not a significant difference I'm tempted to stick with the manual one - more control or something like that...

teabelly · 15/04/2005 16:47

DS asleep so got a chance to sign on again

McMudda hello again, nice to hear from you...potty training - ooh what fun eh! We did it with ds around christmas time...feels great when they get the hang of it!

Welshie - happy birthday for your dd for tomorrow, hope she has a most excellent day...and obviously you have to spoil her!!!

Charley - yup closed system. Specialist was Glowworm employee (plumber phoned then in). He reckons plumber should have picked air bubble/possible blockage up from heating pattern of pipes, and very surprised he didn't...still waiting to hear from plumber as we haven't paid all the bill yet!! ...luckily Glowworm's £200 bill was paid by card, and must be the plumbers as it certainly wasn't mine, so at least we won't have to fight to get that back

KVG - don't worry about dd being a big baby, apparently big babies help to push themselves out so it's a good thing...so what you want is a big baby with a small head!

Oh bugger - ds is stirring...always does this when I think I've got loads of time...hope you all have a fab weekend whatever you're up to, 'see' you next week, x.

Cooperoo · 15/04/2005 17:16

Helllooooo McMudda - Congrats on the potty training. How old is your ds? Sadly my dd seems no where near ready and so I will have two in nappies. Actually I am not sure that I am ready either so prob just as well lol. Can't help on the pump thing either I am afraid as I used the Avent manual but have never tried any others.
KVG - Don't you dare feel ridiculous. You aren't being at all. I think we all have something to worry about and that is the nature of pregnancy. And they are all a real concern to the person they are bothering and justifiably so. So there .
Lua - Lol about the extensive pulling! I remember swearing that DH would never see me expressing as he would never fancy me again, baby on one boob and pump on the other, but he came home early one day and didn't bat an eyelid and yes does still fancy me . The things we do to ourselves!

Cooperoo · 15/04/2005 17:24

Tea- Great news about the Gloworm too.

Opinions required please. Baby is due 13th June and we want to fly back to the UK on the 6th July. I know this is very soon but we have done our homework and made a decision. Now DH has been asked to do a course for work on the 4-6th July in Cumbria. Means flying on the 2nd July and him taking me to mums in Suffolk and then going away for three days. I have said this is unreasonable as there are too many variables to go wrong (ie baby being late, me needing a section plus coping with dd and a new baby away from home.) If baby is late or I have a section we can change flight dates as we are paying extra for flexible tickets. Is it me being unreasonable or his work expecting too much?? Honest opinions please. I think he has come round to my way of thinking but I have the feeling he thinks I am being over dramatic. (This could be unfair of me though, v sensitive IYKWIM) If he doesn't get on this course he may not be able to do it as the next one will be too late for them to get their money's worth from him. Anyway it caused a bit of upset in the Coop household so I am interested in what you think.

Cooperoo · 15/04/2005 17:28

I know it is only a few days difference but I think they could well be crucial days ..... and don't like the idea of him being away either, although I will be at my Mums I spose....

Cooperoo · 15/04/2005 17:31

Aww thanks Lynny. I hope your dd has a good weekend. Try and make the most of it by doing something special with dh.

tribpot · 15/04/2005 19:37

Coop, I think it depends on how much help you'll get at your Mum's. Plus you will be firmly committing yourself to coming back to the UK at a very early stage, whereas at the moment you have the flexible tickets to hedge your bets.

What would dh get out of the course? Given the circumstances, what kind of short notice could he give to pull out of the course? The last thing you want is to be two weeks late, have a c-section or summat, and then dh has to go floating off to Cumbria with you too ill to manage. Okay, that's the extreme example but it could happen and probably best to plan for that at the moment. On the other hand, bubs could be two weeks early, you're feeling fine and dandy, and your mum will pitch in and help out, so everyone's happy. If his employers are prepared to be flexible, that would seem to be the best solution all round.

That's my thought anyway!

Cobweb · 16/04/2005 02:39

Hello ladies, well its been a couple of months (could be longer) since I have been online. Mainly down to pc problems, but also life. I won't bore you all with the details now, just wanted to say a massive hi to anyone that remembers me big wave

I am now 32 weeks pregnant and the size of a house.

Had a consultant appointment yesterday and I am being induced on 23rd June, which is the 38 week point!

This is due to my fast labours and my lifestyle at the moment. In a nutshell its having no home as of 18th May as our house fell through 2 weeks ago and hubby is out of the military so we have to give up our married quarter.

Anyway I am suffering with insomnia and really should try and sleep before the boys are up in 3 hours.

Hope everyone is well and once again loves to my old buddies on here and hi to all the newies xxx

Morning Cobweb! Your dates have me confused. You're being induced on 23rd June, that's nearly 10 weeks away (at least I hope it is as I am due on 24 June and currently 30 weeks + 1 day!). Can that be right?! You may have to cross your legs to hang on til 42 weeks

Lynny, have an absolutely lovely day with dh, you have truly earnt your rest, and I'm sure dd will be having a marvellous time.

Uki - happy birthday to you! Hope you have splendid one.

bubbaloo · 16/04/2005 10:59

uwila · 16/04/2005 13:31

Hi everyone. Sorry I've been AWOL lately. Everytime I think about catching up, I look and thread a nd know it's an impossible taske. So, I've decided not to even try.

I going into "oh sh1t it's almost here mode". I've packed my hospital bag -- okay I've only STARTED packing it. But hey that's progress. I'm soooooo tired of going to work, but I have to stick it out through 13 May. I suppose I'll live. I've also been buying baby clothes on e-bay (much to DH's dismay), but they are so cute and so cheap I just can't resist. I even got DD a little toddler bike for under £15.

I'm also starting to worry about just how I get to hospital should I go into labour before planned caesarean (which won't even be planned until 05 May) Well, fingers crossed that I don't get into a bind. I suppose it's just usual last minute panic mode.

Hope everyone else is well. Sorry, but I can't possibly read everything that's been typed. I mean really, a girl must have her priorities, and there are e-bay items to bid on....

Oh oh oh... but I did note that Charley bought a pram.... is it true?!?!?

Pink, I think you have a new washer now. Is the neighbors from hell saga still going on?

Cooperoo · 16/04/2005 15:30

Hello all,
Hi to Cobweb. Sorry to hear you have problems with your house. My DH is in the forces too. Where are you staying now? What a stress for you especially so close to your due date, although I have to agree with Trib that your dates have me confused. Good Luck anyway.
Trib - Thanks for your comments about the course etc. It is the number of variables that is concerning me. As you say if all goes to plan there is no real problem as I will be safely at my Mums with all the help that entails. I will get DH to investigate the problems involved with cancelling the course. We will know as soon as the baby is born (or not) if it is a problem after all. Problem is it is a civvie course and so will probably have to be paid for... I have a bit more of a rational head on today but I am aware that some people think we are mad travelling with such a small baby already! No one who lives out here is shocked but all UK friends are....
Lynny - Enjoy your weekend and I hope you get some bargains at the sale. A lie in must be so lovely.
Uki - HAPPY BIRTHDAY GIRL!!!!!! Have a good one.
Uwila - Hi, I have gone into a panic of buying on ebay too! What a fab site it is. Hope you win what you want.
Hello Bubb too.
Have had lovely lunch here with a friend today. Great fun and dd on best behaviour having to show my friend ALL of her toys.
What kind of mattress do you think we need for a moses basket? We have been given a basket and mothercare do two mattresses one posh one for £25 and one standard one for £10. I want the £25 one but DH says baby will not be in there that long so do we need it?? I really don't know. Surely the cheaper one is safe too?? Has anyone used one of those Samsonite pop up cribs. I am looking at one on ebay. Seems good for us for part of visit to the UK (my mum has a proper crib for when we are at hers) and also useful for taking to the beach and waterpark while we are here as I won't bother with the big pram into the car. Good idea or waste of money? I bought a bath float too which is entirely my idea. I think it will be very helpful when I am on my own with the two children as DH is away for three weeks in Oct. I hope so anyway as DH thought this was unnecessary too. Anyone else used one?
Had better go and cook dd's tea. Byeee

Cobweb · 16/04/2005 15:33

Sorry to confuse you Tribpot I meant to type 23rd May.

Good to see you xxx

charleypops · 16/04/2005 16:17

UKI - HAPPY BIRTHDAY FOR YESTERDAY!!! Hope you had a great day!! Shame you can't drink or anything on your 30TH!

Lynny - hope your test is negative on Monday. Great that you've been told you have a lovely active baby, hope that puts your mind at ease I still think you're brave even though you were 30 not 13 - you must've saved quite a few kids from being abused there, even if it was for just 2 and a half years while he was inside. I'd try to ignore your ex mil's annoying habits and make the most of her while you have a new little baby. I'd love an interfering mum right now Btw - how do you find out about NCT sales? I think I looked on their website for these a few weeks ago but couldn't find a link....?

Cooperoo - I am now the proud owner of the Mountain Buggy Terrain with chunky tyres and a carrycot!!. Thanks for that link to eco-babes! What I will do now (she says today...) is get a small stockpile of muslins to start with and order a trial pack from them for say the first month or so then I'll know which to order - it's a great deal isn't it - getting your money back with your order Re your dh's course - would him doing it be particularly beneficial to his career or income?

Welshie - hope you party went well today!

Lippy - glad you're excited about your new baby!! I still can't believe I'm going to be a mummy so don't really feel excited. I am very happy though. I think maybe if I get the cot and set it all up it might help me to realise it's really going to happen....

Trib - jeez, they're making you suffer aren't they?

I'm off to read that link you've all been chattering about...

KVG - Aw - poor you getting upset over those little comments about your size. I look massive sometimes depending on what I'm wearing.

LUA - OMG!! 4 weeks!! or 6 weeks!! it's so near isn't it? Scary Mary! I haven't gained any weight for ages either, but bump's measurements are bang on target. I piled loads on in the 1st trimester.

McMudda - lovely to see you again! Are you still chopping trees up and stuff? Maybe that's why you're so healthy have a compact bump this time around?

Tea - hope you don't have to endure any awkward conversations with your rubbish plumber over the bill... £200's a lot isn't it? Did it take him all day to find the air locks?

Cobweb! hello! OMG You're homeless and about to have a baby!! How does that work?? I'm not suprised you're having difficulty sleeping. Poor you.

Uwila! HI!! your dd is going to love cycling! There'll be no stopping her, with her legs! . Poor you having to work right up to 13th May - that's so near your date. Hope you're taking things slower. I guess you'll be having the cs at 38 weeks? If I were you, I'd make sure I have the money for a cab to the hospital with me at all times just in case, so you don't have to worry about getting to the hospital should you go into labour. And YES! I have bought a pram and it's right here in the lounge!! AND I bought a washing machine after only 2 days research, AND I may well have a carseat by the end of the day - I'm off to look at a locally advertised Matrix in a couple of hours. AND I might well order the cot on Monday!!

Cooperoo · 16/04/2005 16:35

Hi Charley
Good to hear from you. The course will be useful for his service career and after. There is another cours in Sep however and one in Nov but he doesn't think he can get on the Sep course and they won't send him in Nov as there is a clash with another course. Phew! Your buggy sounds fantastic. Glad you got it at last.
Do they give you your money towards the nappies at eco-babes?? or is it just your deposit money knocked off?? I haven't looked recently but for me it was just deposit money.... I would contact them and try and book a kit though as I couldn't get a newborn/small one when I wanted it and had to wait till dd was bigger and get the next one up. It was great for me as I would have made some very expensive mistakes i know. I nearly bought the Bambino Mio Birth to Potty pack and know I would have given up on this v quickly. I also wanted velcro but when I used it with the trial nappies I realised I hated it and I was a popper girl... I have been looking at wraps on ebay today and might get a couple of small sandy's too. Oooo I love buying new nappies and I just get the boring ones!
Welshie - Charley reminded me - hope the party was a great success and you are not too worn out!
Back to ebay.....

PinkArjuna · 16/04/2005 16:44

You know Charley I don't think getting a cot makes you believe you are going to be a mummy... I have even washed the nappies and I am still in denial. Gosh it'll be a shock when he comes along I'm not sure about the whole thing really. its why I keep lying in bed pretending to be leading a different life to my own while college work piles up... anyway I better go baked potato in th oven. Hope everyone is ok.

welshmum · 16/04/2005 19:28

Haven't got much time but just wanted to come on and say thank for all the Happy Birthday wishes for dd - she has had the most fantastic day - so of course I'm delighted (and totally shagged out)
Dh made her a ballerina birthday cake, she had some delicious presents and all her friends were really well behaved and sweet with her.
Anyway must now retire to the sofa - have lovely weekends all and I'll catch up properly on Monday xxx
UKI - hope you're day went super well too - with lots of barbies and pink fairy things to wear in your hair
