Thanks for the reassurance Tea - you're right, they do have quiet days and fidgety days. I may have to eat some chocolate to get it moving properly (good excuse).

Uwila, I'd skip the first three months. After that I think I'll be ok.

Forgot to say to Lippy - my handbag has a secret pocket that I keep forgetting about. I found the first positive pregnancy test I got with this pregnancy in there a few weeks ago!

Hi All,

I'm so sorry, I've been so awful at keeping up. My PC crashed on thursday night and I've only just got it up and running now, so I'm working my way through the hundreds of messages.

Mrs Wed . I?m having the same problem as you. My maternity tops are at their tightest stretch and I somehow have to fit 6 more weeks growth into them . Not sure how that is going to work.
Oh, and I have every intention of keeping our odd cleaners. There is absolutely no way I intend to do any of that while trying to cope with a newborn.

Charley ? my ?V? shaped pillow has been my saviour and best friend through this pgy. It comes to bed with me every night and supports whatever aching bit of me needs it. I?ve been told that they?re great for nursing purposes. I got mine from Mothercare.

Ooh lipstick, I like the sound of your bare chested plasterer. How fantastic!

I'll write again later when I've caught up some more.....

tribpot · 25/04/2005 19:30

Jonah, am I right in thinking your dh is going to be a SAHD as well? If so, is he at home from the start or is he leaving work when you finish maternity leave? Just curious, no purpose to the questions!

JonahB · 25/04/2005 19:47

Caught up a bit more fully now.

Trib, that?s right, DH is SAHD. I am planning to return to work mid-Dec, so he will be full time until then, then go part time, probably after Christmas. We?ll just have to find a stop gap solution for those 2 weeks. Is your DH SAHD as well?

Katz, really pleased for your DH. I agree with what?s been said. Less money is a small price to pay for being happy and not dreading going to work every morning. How lovely for him.

Lynny ? I have a fembrace, but I only wear it a small amount of the time. I was told that I should wear it when I?m up and about, but as I have a sitting-in-front-of-pc job, I only wear it when I go out at weekends. So far, I have found it similar to wearing a corset and little help, but I will persevere.

Oh g-d, you?ve all panicked me now. I was so busy counting how many working days I have left (12, since you ask), I haven?t been counting days till due date (I make it 41 days, I?m due on the 5th). DH and I went to Asda and bought our first nappies at the weekend. We both nearly hyperventilated with the experience. I was working on the premise that even if I don?t have the ?bag? packed, I should at least have everything I need in the house ready for the bag.Well, it makes me feel calmer anyway

uwila · 25/04/2005 20:06

Oh, speaking of the hospital bag, I forgot to mention (ages ago, sorry)... Anyway someone asked about music for the hospital. Some hospitals will have a player and some won't. Epsom had a player but it was reserved for theatre if needed. We bought an ELC cd player for DD and used that instead. We amused a few people with baby's for CD player. But, hey, it's never too early to learn to jam to the tunes.

Lynny, I much prefer the karate chop image. Can you break a rick with your hand? If you walk into the labour ward and do one of your moves, I bet they'll give you any drug you want.

uwila · 25/04/2005 20:07

rick=brick

tribpot · 25/04/2005 21:14

Jonah, yup, mine is going to be a SAHD as well. (Are you not in Leeds? Perhaps they can be SAHD buddies helping each other through the horrors of mum and baby coffee mornings and whatnot )

Re: music (or portable entertainment) for the hospital, I was thinking about taking our portable DVD player, will I be the envy of the maternity ward? Can I trade watching time for hard drugs? I hope so. Actually dh has some slow release patches of one his painkillers that he won't need (old dosage amount), I might slap one on when I first get contractions and see what happens and then flog the rest when we get to the hospital

I have 60 days to go and have given precisely no consideration to my hospital bag, although have tracked down a v nice shop in town that sells washable nappies (Bambino Mio being their preferred brand) and biodegradable disposables for newborns, the lady in the shop says we can have some free samples, hurrah! So that may form the start of my hospital packing.

Thanks for the tips about washing powder, btw. I don't think dbump will be getting much new stuff to wear given the many handmedowns which are available, but I shall remember not to wash too much if s/he does get any pressies in advance.

LipstickMum · 25/04/2005 22:01

So Trib and Jonah, are your dh's going to be the new contributors to the "June Post-natal" thread ?? Excellent to have some men on board!

Trib, I haven't packed my hospital bag yet either, we don't even have bedrooms By the way, I have some Bambino Mio nappies you can willingly have for the price of postage. My sister gave them to me, she never used them and I used Motherease. I just found them tonight as we emptied dd's room ready for new ceiling, they're in the bag etc. Let me know, I'll gladly send them to a good home!!

Tea, regarding names, we have about 1 name, which I sort of like. I'm not going to see what 'fits' when she's born, I like the idea that we have a name ready and that's it!!!

teabelly · 25/04/2005 22:19

Ha ha ha, LOL Trib '...trade watching time for hard drugs...' wouldn't that be nice, he he he!

Lippy - so you're going to keep the name secret then...probably wise - we're all far to opinionated on here!

DS has decided that he doesn't love his 'sister' anymore...put his ear to my belly to hear her this evening and she gave an almighty kick, as if to say 'hey that's my space!' So he was very un-enamoured when he went to bed! Oh the joy of waring siblings - it's started already!!!!

JonahB · 26/04/2005 07:44

Trib - i'm in manchester - not too far away.

What are biodegradable disposables? Do they work (ie, are they good nappies as well as being biodegradable)? I've not heard of those before. Do you recommend any makes? I dont really want to start with non-disposables (sorry,) until I've got the hang of this baby lark, but that would ease my eco-conscience massively.

Tea, at your already squabbling siblings.

Jonah, I haven't tried any biodegradable disposables yet, we're planning to use them for the early weeks before switching to cloth - a recommendation from The Nappy Lady as I think newborns need their own size of cloth nappy so you would end up buying them to use for a short period of time. (Or I could use my Mum's old-stylee terry nappies that are a big square that you fold up, except she said when we were born we were so small you had to fold the nappy so many times you couldn't get the pin through!).

Anyway, will let you know what I discover from the shop in town. I think if biodegradable disposables work reasonably well they could be a good compromise between the environment and convenience. We'll use them for travelling and so on.

Lippy, I would certainly be happy to take your Bambino Mios off you for postage, that is most generous! I'll CAT you, thanks.

Lynny, sounds like the hormones to me. As you say, you've nothing to hide from dh on here but the conversations do seem kind of private, don't they? Good luck with the ex-MIL and don't forget Uwila's suggestion of tucking a photo of a monkey baby into your notes in case she fancies a look!

Morning girls

Lynny - think you're right about the dented ego...normally every morning he comes running in pulls back the duvet and asks to kiss the baby...but this morning he didn't and when I asked if he wanted to he said 'no, baby sister bad, Lukie wants a kiss to make it better'!!! Oops hope we can resolve this, he he he

Re the reaction to dh, think this is perfectly normal, like KVG says it's almost like they're invading your private diary in a way...and it's hormones too my poor dh is used to me going off the deep end one moment only to be sweetness and light the next - female perogative I believe!

LOL Trib - had forgotton about Uwila's monkey pic advice...pleeeeeease do it Lynny it would be so so funny!

Jonah - sorry I've never used biodegradables so can't comment - had heard from writeups that they sometimes leak more than non bios, but that was when ds was newborn, and I'm sure they've come on leaps and bounds in 3 years.

Lua · 26/04/2005 10:25

Morning all!
Trib - nice to hear from you again! I have used the Moltex with DD and never had any problems with it. You can actually by them from Unicorn in Chorlton and save on shipping.
I must point out though that they are produced in an ecologically friendly way. Which is certainly already much better than the ones that are not. But, they are not biodegradable. Actually, no nappies will be biodegradable unless you put them on your own yard.... If you would like to make your own nappy compost, you could try nature girl that sells in Sainsbury. I wouldn't recommend it though if you are going to sell your house in the near future...
I have to say though, the using cloth ones are really no big deal.... I haven't used one when DD was a newborn, but will do this time around from week2 - after I see if this guy is really a rugby player or not....
