Hi TINK!Same here, snow totally gone although we're told more is expected any day
GRUFF, sorry to hear you're feeling so rough. I remember the feeling when anaemic so well. There's an iron tonic that other mumsnetters mention that seems to be far more effective than the tablets - think it's floridex or something? Might be worth a try, and in the meantime try and rest and get back on to the midwife if no better. It could be that you're not absorbing the iron properly, and she could suggest something else. Take care!

NatalieJane · 07/02/2009 12:47

Hello

Gruff, I was advised to use Spatone for anaemia, can't say whether it worked or not because then I got poorly with one thing after another and the lack of iron suddenly didn't matter, and I never took it But that is the one that seems to be recommened on here.

Kay, forget nasty IL's, how's it going? You are very brave taking on the responsibility at the moment, much more so than me, I wouldn't take on a stick insect at the moment! Hope Pixie is begining to settle in I meant to ask as well, how is DS2's feeding going now? Are you still managing to BF? (I missed any conclusion)

Glask sorry about your sickness/migraine, not much fun at the moment hey? Not long to go

Ses, hope the weather is a bit better where you are.

Diege, am at the bribe (why didn't I think of doing that when I was at school? !!)

Ast, glad you enjoyed the massages. Please keep an eye out for any other PE symptoms, I am worried about you, and I think you should be being more carefully monitored TBH. Listen to those instincts OK?

Still got snow/ice on the ground, still up to a foot of the bloody stuff in some parts, and from what I can make out the hills/moutains are absolutely covered, but AFAIK it hasn't actually snowed for 3 days now.

DH is working this morning, when he is home (or tomorrow depending on when he is home!) I have a shopping trip booked, I need a new coat ( and shoes, and a bag, t'is the law when you get a new coat!) DS1 needs some new tops, he seems to be growing at the rate of knots at the moment, and he needs school shoes, DS2 needs trainers, I'm going to start getting DS3's 3-6 month clothes, he is really starting to fill the 0-3 now, and DH needs some trainers and tops... can anyone lend me a few hundred quid please? Think we might go over to the Trafford centre, they can all come in for the shoes fittings, and then they can all bugger off and leave me in peace to shop Good plan?

Can you hear that? It's the iron saying "c'mon, I'm going no where, get up and come and use me" DH better be home soon, I'll have an excuse to stop, and lunch would be good.

GruffaloSoldier · 07/02/2009 13:36

Thanks for advice Diege/NJ, I am seeing the mw next Friday so will give myself til then and if no better will bring it up with her.

I just had a trip into town (only 2min walk) and have completely exhausted myself, although I think getting some fresh air has done me good.

I cant remember who asked about 'I'm the big sister' t-shirts but they are definitely in mothercare as I have just seen them. Ours MC isn't very big either so should be able to get them quite easily.

I got some big PJ bottoms for £6 and 7 baby girl vests from Marks and Spencers for £2.49 in the sale down from £12

Hi tink - boo to no sledging!!

kayzr · 07/02/2009 14:48

Nat, he is just FF now. It became too hard to combine the 2.

We just went to the shops. It was really nice and sunny on the way there. On the way home the heavens opened and it was like a blizzard, we couldn't see a bloody thing at all. We got soaked and I am freezing now.

Well I've had an interesting morning.

GruffaloSoldier · 07/02/2009 15:37

oh my ohsnap that looks a bit of an eventful day for you! Is your mum ok now?

ohsnap · 07/02/2009 15:53

I think so, she's in hospital but it's very busy so she's waiting to be processed. Nothing too serious I'm sure! She was most annoyed about the fact that she only got one go!

kayzr · 07/02/2009 16:08

Ohsnap, I hope she will be ok!!

OP posts:
Diege · 07/02/2009 16:19

Gosh dramatic pictures OS . Glad things are looking OK for your mum

Sparklytwinkletoes · 07/02/2009 16:29

OS - Looks like one go was more than enough!

Gruff - I've seen that Spatone recommended all over the place for use during pregnancy, not just on MN as its supposed to be easier for the body to absorb. And I think I've read something about vitamin C helping to absorb it too - so taking iron tablets with a glass of orange or apple juice might help?

I've got a really bad throat today, I ended up going to bed really early last night - DP was working late so I just took DS up to bed with me and i couldn't be bothered to put him in his own bed, we just cuddled up together - was very nice. Am now wondering if the tiredness is more about me over doing things or if possibly tonsillitis? Its not a croaky sore throat, more lumpy, iyswim. Got an important meeting on Monday so really want to make it to work if possible..

Astarte, agree with NJ, am a bit worried about you too, hope your MW's look after you well and that you get the HWB if at all possible,

Kayz, rellies sound a nightmare and to be utterly ignored. Pure bred staffies can be a little grumpy if they're not taught firmly who's boss when they're pups, IME, but are so adorable and affectionate and even as adults, like having another kid in the house! I have no idea how you are coping with a new born and a puppy!!!

(And for goodness sake don't mention it to my DP, he'd love a dog, don't want him getting any funny ideas!!!)

Is it wrong to be looking forward to bed already??

Maybe I'll see if DH will cook tea tonight, and do it early too .

Diege - LOL at the desperation of your student!

Sesthinks2009willbeagreatyear · 07/02/2009 17:18

Mmmmm...

Am back from work and ready for the rugby. Ireland about to kick off and I may need ear plugs as DH gets a little enthusiastic when watching them!

Made it to work ok - the worst bit was just within 5 miles of home. In the town I was working in, there was hardly any snow and my younger brother lives only 10 miles from there so I chanced giving him a ring and as he was around, I took him out and treated him to a pub lunch! Was really good to catch up with him. We've always got on really well but the last few years just haven't seen eachother as much.

DH has just got the ironing board out and is doing the ironing whilst watching the rugby!!!! He may need to be careful of the hot iron if the match gets too exciting!

OhSnap - Your poor Mum!! Seems like she's taking it well though. If it was my Mum, she'd pretending to be half dead and wouldn't leave hospital for the next week. Actually correction, she wouldn't have been anywhere near a sledge - we were never allowed and I had 2 school friends "kidnap" me at the age of 16 to go sledging for the first time

Sparkly - sorry you're feeling under the weather. It does sound like a possible infection so take it easy. Hope you're ok for Monday.

Gruff - Sparkly is absolutely spot on about vitamin C aiding absorption of iron. You take it easy too.

Kay - You really seem to have the inlaws from hell!! Have you got any more photos of your puppy?

NJ - shopping trip sounds good!!

Glask - MS and migraine really doesn't sound a good combination. Rest up and I hope neither hang around too long.

Diege - LOL at that student!!! Are you having a productive afternoon?

Right - sorry if I've forgotten anything. I've done another mega catch up post!!

GruffaloSoldier · 07/02/2009 18:22

That is good then ohsnap, hopefully she will be out before you know it.

Thanks for the advice Sparkly/Ses I had increased my vit c but promptly forgot again so thanks for reminder!! I seem to be taking pregnancy forgetfulness to the extreme!

Glad work was ok Ses, and glad you had good time with your brother. Enjoy the rugby!

Sparkly I hope you feel better soon, my DH is never ill and has managed to get a cold.He reckons it s going now so fingers crossed if youre getting ill it wont last too long!

I just bought some more bargain baby bits from TKMaxx (pink flat cot sheets) and Asda (baby bouncer) so am feeling

DH is rustling up pork chops and veg and then we are going to watch a dvd we got out the library (Will Smith in I am Legend)

We have our first NCT class tomorrow - am feeling a bit nervous - eek!

kayzr · 07/02/2009 18:41

Hi,

I feel like we have made a mistake with the dog, she seems to be really scared of DS1 which is horrible as he hasn't done anything to her.

I feel like a complete idiot.

OP posts:
Sesthinks2009willbeagreatyear · 07/02/2009 18:46

Kay - give them both some time to adjust. I mentioned to DH that you'd just got a staff puppy and he said that with children already in the house, they generally are no problem as they respect the fact that they were there first.
When my godaughter came over at New Year, one of ours ended up seeming a bit scared of her but I'm confident she'd have been fine given a bit more time.

Sorry, not sure how helpful that is. Other thoughts...
Do you have any puppy treats that DS1 could throw to the puppy? That may make the puppy respect him and appreciate him?
Also, is there a towel or blanket that DS1 has been using that you could put in the puppy's bed temporarily? We've been advised to do this when our LO is born. Something that smells of them that they can get used to but they don't keep it so that they know they don't "own" them. If that makes sense?

Sesthinks2009willbeagreatyear · 07/02/2009 18:48

Gruff - bargains from TKMaxx sound good. I had a JoJoMaman parcel waiting for me when I got home from work! 2 tops and a pair of jeans Also a couple of bras that DH looked at and said "No way are they big enough for you!" They are a large size (for some reason were in S,M,L,XL rather than normal bra sizing), so I hope they stretch a lot!!

GruffaloSoldier · 07/02/2009 19:23

Kayz - re puppy and DS its only been a day - you need to give them time to adjust!Ses has given you some good advice.Puppies take time to train, my sis got her second dog (a puppy) at beginning of Jan and are still working hard at getting him trained. He is doing great but sounds like blinkin hard work to me! The older dog is fab - what Im saying is that as long are you are doing everything you need to, your hard work will pay off and your dog will get used to DS and will eventually just be part of the family!

Ses - you're buys sound good! Im waiting for some parcels for next week too. Including a dress for my friends wedding!I never tire of waiting for parcels

kookykid · 07/02/2009 21:09

ohsnap Couldn't believe those pics of your mum ! Sounds like she is a great personality though, so bet she'll make a speedy recovery.

Glad you made it to work OK ses and I escped having to watch the rugby today as DH is away overnight for work. No doubt will have to watch it tomorrow though. Might suggest he does the ironing at the same time like yours.

Kay I'm no expert, but what the others are syaing makes a lot of sense. Hope she sttles quickly.

I managed a bit of a shop today too - got a really nice warm ski jacket at TKMaxx for £35, the RRP was £175. I LOVE TKMaxx! Hope your shopping trip was successful, nat. Gruff I took Flaradix after DD was born as well as eating an iron-rich diet (lots of mince and spinach bake!) rather than have a blood transfusion. Took me a week or two, but the Floradix defineitly helped speed up the recovery (it doesn't taste that nice though). Think I remember the orange juice thing too.

Hi sparkly. sorry to hear your throat is bad - hope it clears up soon. How are you feeling otherwise?

Sorry if I've misseed anyone!

GruffaloSoldier · 07/02/2009 21:30

Hi there Kooky,

Thanks for advice - will probably speak to mw next week!

hooray for more TKMaxx bargains We just finished our film and I am still chomping on midget gems. Im almost through a whole packet by myself!

Sparklytwinkletoes · 07/02/2009 22:01

Hi KK, absolutely shattered - guess its a good sign? Ought to go to bed really, just been sitting reading MN whilst DP watches a film.

Hope DS doesn't wake too early!

Brain isn't really functioning very well, I keep starting posts then getting distracted or forgetting what I was writing, hence being quite quiet of late...

ohsnap · 07/02/2009 22:16

Evenin' all

Kayz, afraid I know nothing about dogs, but what everyone else has said certainly sounds sensible, good luck!

You all sound like you've had nice relaxing evenings, me too, I'm knackered after today's shenanigans! Mum's alright now, she's home and not hurting too much, just a bit achey.

And it would appear that it runs in the family. My brother [rolls eyes]

kayzr · 07/02/2009 22:27

Ohsnap, DH and me just had a real good giggle at your brother!!

So are you planning on doing anything silly in the snow??

Sesthinks2009willbeagreatyear · 07/02/2009 22:35

Just been catching up on our FB Group!!
LB - saw your comment about our house!! It is lovely but maybe just means that we're streeeeetched rather than posh!!
(Guess you can see why I called it my dream house though and why we plan on staying put now!)

It's good to be certain about who's who on the FB Group!! I have to confess to getting a couple of people mixed up until I saw that list!!

OhSnap - If I'm going to be labelled posh, you can definitely be labelled mad from your family's exploits!! Made me laugh

lardybump · 08/02/2009 09:24

Morning everyone.... I am not a happy mummy this morning. DP and I have been arguing again (gets boring doesn't it) and I am ill...... Baby has just kicked DD as she was lying on top of me and she jumped up and said "no baby no hitting? ah bless.

Ohsnap your family are really cool....... and very young.....

Kay give the dog time it is probably nervous of you all but more of ds1 as he is more active around him.... Make sure you take it for lots of walks together and maybe let ds1 feed it for a while so they build a bond....

SES your house makes mine look like a shed..... he he he he

Sesthinks2009willbeagreatyear · 08/02/2009 09:43

Morning!

LB - sorry for arguments with your DP but how cute is that comment from your DD!!

I was actually going to ask a question about movements. I'm 27 weeks today and usually feel movements a little first thing in the morning, occassionally during the day and then quite a few but intermitently mid to late evening. All movements seem quite low - well below my belly button and are central and on both sides.
Does this all sound normal?
Does it suggest the baby is lying transverse?

I'd quite like to feel one of those nasty kicks in the ribs that people talk about but baby doesn't seem anywhere near my ribs!

Also DH still hasn't felt the baby move! I've suggested he sits or lies with his head or hand on my belly but he has no patience and will do that for 2 mins and then gives up!

I feel like he's missing out and I have a couple of close friends that would like to feel and I'm happy for them to but only after DH has! Actually, I think I'll tell him that about my friends as he doesn't know that.

Am rambling now...

LB - hope your DP starts being more supportive

Astarte - hope you're doing ok. Any update?
