MrsY · 04/02/2009 16:57

Yay! More babies! Congrats and welcome.

MammaGoose - do we have a name?

idontbelieveit · 04/02/2009 17:09

Congratulations MammaG and Nkweto! Well done!

thehouseofmirth · 04/02/2009 17:56

Evening everyone! Quiet on here today...

Congratuations MamaGoose and Nkweto. Great size babies. Do we have a name Mamagoose?

Comiserations to QuestionKid and PinkTulips!

Managed to get to & from nursery twice today without event though did in the end get my best friend to come over and walk with me. What a wimp I am!

I cannot be bothered to drink raspberry leaf tea, eat curry or pineapple (well I would if someone brought them to me), have sex, walk or sit on the gym ball. He's never coming out, is he?

thehouseofmirth · 04/02/2009 17:58

There's a message on FB that Swampster and Jacob are home.

PinkTulips · 04/02/2009 18:41

lol thom.... am starting to think like that myself but will coerce dp into one more go at 'induction by seduction' tonight before i give up completely

hope i have it before next tuesday though as the thought of having to get dp to drive me to hosp an hour away, dragging both kids with us and having to fight with some idiot doc/mw as to why i won't be booked for induction is too much to bear!

McDreamy · 04/02/2009 18:48

Wow that's good going Swampster welcome home to you both

laidbackinengland · 04/02/2009 19:32

Huge welcomes to the world to Stanley, Ewan, Jacob, Frankie, Alexandra and MamaGoose's DD.

We really are popping them out now. All here is good. I have managed to scare the midwife off until Monday when we will be discharged to the health visitor. Mabel is feeding well and is a real delight. Although she has stopped looking like a tortoise, I can't get any pictures off my camera to put up as my lead is malfunctioning. Will try and sort it tomorrow.

Sorry for TMI - but my 'undercarriage' is feeling very heavy and I am wondering if my rapid labour has caused me to prolapse a little bit . DH has said he will look for me tonight ...but to be honest, I'm not sure if I want him poking about down there just yet !!

dinkystinky · 04/02/2009 20:07

Evening all. Mamagoose - huge congrats on the lovely arrival of your DD (all that waiting paid off in the end with a lovely straightforward home water birth, hurrah!) and Nkweto, huge congrats on the fab arrival of Alexandra (cant believe it went from no sign of imminent arrival to birth of your DD within 2 days - those 3 hours of slipping and sliding around obviously paid off). Hope it was a nice straightforward birth - look forward to hearing details! Pink - hope these slightly overdue ladies' lovely straightforward and quick births are giving you hope.....

Glad MsLucy is out and hope you're recovering well - having received a text picture of Stanley, I can confirm he is beautiful! No wonder you are totally loved up!!

Swampster - glad you and Jacob are home and hope you're recovering well.

Managed to iceskate in to birth centre and back again today and all was fine (though Squiglet has now disengaged - apparently v common with second babies... fine by me as am managing to go more than 5 minutes without needing the loo now); my dad kindly came down from Nottinghamshire for the day to avoid me having to drag DS into the birth centre with me (which was a good thing as there were 3 women in labour in the reception area as I walked in - suspect seeing a stroppy snotty toddler would have stalled their labours ).

DS has actually been really good today (though is all comparative) but have had several heavily pregnant hormonal strops at brent council as lazy arse binmen have decided they are not collecting any local rubbish until next Monday due to snow and ice on roads and all bins on our road (and all others around here) are already full so will be 2 weeks worth of rubbish on the streets by then - lovely, especially with the bloody urban foxes around and at cab service as cab I ordered (with an hours bloody notice) to take me and DS to his playgroup this morning (as pavements too icy for me to walk there and one of his little friends was having a birthday party today) didnt bloody well turn up and when I called to find out where it was and they said it would be another half hour tried to charge me a cancellation fee (as by the time it turned up his playgroup session would be over) - after 10 minutes of hormonal pregnant stropping at the taxi firm and supervisor, they gracefully agreed to drop the cancellation charges; felt much better after that

Evening all, had our first outing today. To the hospital, freya has bilateral talipes (club foot)and we had an assessment and started treatment which means both her legs are now in plaster up to her hips. It's going to be a long haul as after 6-8 weeks of plasters she'll then need an op to cut the achilles tendon followed by 3 months in boots and bars (two boots joined together by a bar worn 23 hours per day). She'll then have to wear the boots and bars to sleep in and at nap times until she's about 3.

We had loads of tests in hospital for more frightening things (brain damage/liver function/TORCH screen for ante natal viruses) luckily these all came back negative and the talipes seemed like it would be nothing in comparison and i'm thankful that it is at least treatable and she should walk normally at the end of it all. It's starting to sink in now though and I'm worried about the next few months especially the 23 hours per day boots and bars.
Needed to offload tonight, dh being really strong but i'm finding it hard to pull myself together.

thehouseofmirth · 04/02/2009 20:53

idbi I'm sorry you've had such a hard day. I'm sure it must be a huge relief that there is nothing more serious or less treatable wrong with Freya but it must be so hard to have these first few precious weeks affected by the inevitable worry. Hopefully it's just a matter of giving yourself a bit of time to let it sink in then you'll get on with it and be fine. At least Freya will have know nothing else and by the time she is 3 and starting to be aware that things are a bit different for her, everything will be sorted.

idontbelieveit · 04/02/2009 21:01

Thanks THOM, you're right. she's just woken up. Back later.

dinkystinky · 04/02/2009 21:03

IDBI - that sounds like a really hard day, and a hard thing to get your head round. As THOM has said, at least it is treatable and treatment is happening while Freya is still so small so she wont know any different and will be able to reap the immeasurable benefits of the treatment for the rest of her life - but god, it must be hard to watch having just given birth to her and seeing that she is so tiny still... no wonder you need to offload. Remember - that's what we're here for. Sending you big, and very un mumsnet like, hugs...

Hello Ladies

Just home.....we are knackered and sore, but very happy...

Will catch up tomorrow...my god so much has happened in just a few days

DS is lovely, and am just hoping that he's a good boy tonight as I'm very tired.

Did get my elective CS on Monday in the end....but the idea of an elective is that you don't go into labour first ....anyway, details later....

Congratulations to all the new families and babies out there....will catch up properly tomorrow

Thanks for all the good wishes and speak tomorrow x

lardybump · 04/02/2009 21:41

Welcome home LMN glad everything went well, I look forward to hearing all about it...

dinkystinky · 04/02/2009 21:43

Welcome home LMN.. hope you get a peaceful first night at home.

Lardy - flip flops for communal shower/ wipes for communal loos and lanisoh are the only other things I'd sneak on into that bag.

Just sticking my nose in to say a big welcome to
Stanley, Ewan and Jacob.

My beautiful baby Teddy (DC3) was born on the 2nd February 2008 and I have decided it is a wonderful birthdate as he is the most charming, funny, chilled and delightful baby boy.

Wishing you all much joy with your 2/2 baby boys.

MrsY · 04/02/2009 21:50

photos of mamagooses's daughter on facebook...

lardy - um, socks, books/magazines/iPod, essential phone number list and change for payphone, spray water bottle/fan, camera, hot water bottle, pillows...

Although I've not done it before, so only going by what others have advised me to pack. We have a small bag of immediate stuff and then a second bag for the going home stuff at home, but we're five minutes away, and you must be 35/40 minutes from PH? so I guess it will be harder to grab stuff you've forgotten...

MrsY · 04/02/2009 21:54

idbi - sorry to hear you had such a hard day, I'm not surprised that you found it emotional. Sounds like it could have been worse, though, and yes, I would have thought that it will be all over before she has the awareness that she's different. Hope you get a good night's sleep, so all we be better in the morning.

swampster · 04/02/2009 22:31

You lot can talk!

spottyshoes · 05/02/2009 04:25

IDBI sorry you have had such a tough day and dont blame you in the slightlest for being a bit emotional after hearing all that. It's a lot of information to take in at once. Just wanted to echo what the others had said too. x

Welcome home LMN, Hope you are sleeping now

Dinky, sounds like you've been hit by an 'incompetence in the face of a bit snow' day today. Blardy bin men - but at least they felt your wrath today, good on you! Glad everything was ok at the check.

Lardy - any dettol type wipes or handwash? Possibly bobbles if you have long hair. I personally found lipbalm and handcream a must (didn't pack them and really missed them) socks, pillow. Also unless your DH is uber 'together' maybe make a top up bag to leave at home with extra pads, b pads, nappies, pj's, underwear etc as I didn't expect to stay in 5 days and on day 3 was presented with a bag containing (amongst other things) a packet of pantyliners and a thong

For the past few nights I've been getting up every hour to wee and the past 2 nights have been agony thanks to the slip. And now i've started having nightmares they are really unsettling and take me days to get over . Added to that I also have started needing to eat again in the night. Basically = no sleep [yaaaaawn].

Morning MOS - You up yet

spottyshoes · 05/02/2009 04:30

the taxi drivers even sorry

mumoverseas · 05/02/2009 05:23

Mamagoose, congratulations on the safe arrival of your litte girl. Look forward to hearing her name and of course seeing piccies.

Lardy, you forgot the chocolate (and your birthplan?)

LMN, welcome home

IDBI, so sorry to read about your awful day. It must be terribly distressing for you and your family and I'm sending you hugs. I have absolutely no experience of talipes but have been in the position of having a sick child. When my DD (now 12) was around 14 months old she was rushed into hospital with breathing problems following the sudden appearance of a huge growth in her throat. She was admitted immediately and doctors were baffled by what the cause was. She became so ill that she was in hospital for several weeks and had to have several operations to cut a small hole in her throat to insert a tube to enable her to breathe and to drain whatever the lump was (we were never really told what it was as the doctors couldn't seem to agree) we had to go between our local hospital in Crawley and St Georges in London and it was a terrible time. She went through a few operations which seemed so major to her father and I but in reality, were probably quite minor. After the surgery she remained in hospital for several weeks on IV antibiotics which was hard as her little veins kept collapsing and they had to keep trying to put them through her feet which she resisted as much as possible.
It was a very hard time, but the main thing, and the part I've taken ages to get to due to my pathetic waffling, is she doesn't remember any of it. She would have been around 18 months old when it was all finished (as she had to go back for another minor operation to tidy up the scar on her throat - which can no longer be seen) and she has absolutely no memories of it at all.

The main thing is, Freya's condition has been picked up promptly and is being treated quickly and with luck she will have no real memories of the actual operations although she will of course be aware of the boots and bar for nap time but by then will know nothing different.
Sorry about the waffle and again sending more huge hugs to you and your family from Saudi xxx

mumoverseas · 05/02/2009 05:26

spotty, morning, yes I'm up (quite late for me) hope you managed to get back to sleep. Sorry you are still aching after your slip, have you tried the hot baths. Sorry about the nightmares too. I had a really weird one last night involving a nasty Saudi in a shopping mall kicking my DD as she toddled past him! Not sure where that one came from but am a little anxious as we are just getting ready to go for some breakfast and to a mall!
Watch this space......
