Chilled - DS is also being donated to medical research today after he spent 20 minutes having a tantrum at lunch time over having a cold and not wanting to eat his favourite food (pasta with ham and cheese for godsake!) which resulted in me going out the room to have a hormonal cry over the phone at my DH (on a rational basis I know its just a phase, he'll grow out of it and not to rise to the bait; on a pregnant hormonal level, I want to throw a tantrum too). I have decided that our nanny is a saint...

PinkTulips · 03/02/2009 14:44

dinky.... i think i can beat you for hormonal tantrum at a toddler.... i told ds he wasn't getting food til he cleaned up the bricks he'd thrown everywhere when he threw a strop and refused to do it

dinkystinky · 03/02/2009 14:57

Ah, Pinktulips arent pregnancy hormones great!

Right, off to wake up my tantrum buddy...

KT that must be so worrying for you, DH has always said what a waste of time fundal measurements are and can't believe the midwives do them and chart them so religiously. (But he is not a big fan of miwives). Fingers crossed she will be fine - she sounds active enough!!!!

Mrsy hope they get your blood pressure sorted or your baby out

eekayjay really sorry about missing out on your home birth. I would love a home birth but after 2 sections it's NEVER going to happen.

Well I am officially still fed up and DH made me cry this morning - by sending me a bunch of flowers to say only a week to go! Such a lovely surprise

rosieposey · 03/02/2009 15:22

well in amenity room on hazel ward (and hubbyds phone) so you will have to forgive spelling!
Looks like I will be here till Fridays section and am very fed up about it as obviously would rather be at home with dcs and dp well will keep up with things and generally lurk hope everyone is ok and it that things are ok with your lo

Questionkid · 03/02/2009 16:29

Oh look at how many lovely babies have arrived since I was last on here! Congratulations to everyone, so lovely to read all the announcements. Hope all the cs ladies are doing ok and looking forward to more news.

I had a sweep today - I must admit, I've had more pleasant experiences in my life. I finally made it up to the hospital (we haven't been able to get our car out of our road since Sunday) and my BP was a bit raised as usual, and I've got protein as usual, so I had blood tests as usual, and now have to phone up tomorrow as usual. But (as usual) the MW didn't seem too concerned and said as I'm due today she'd do a sweep if I wanted one. I thought 'why the hell not?' Hmmm, after quite a lot of discomfort and loss of dignity later I wondered if I should've thought about it a bit more, but the good news is that my cervix is apparently soft and opening and definitely getting ready. So let's hope something starts happening soon.

Hope everyone's ok and hanging on in there, and those who have their babies are enjoying the newborn bliss!!

chilledmama · 03/02/2009 16:51

Hmmm...sweep. I'm undecided about them. I know that's there's no downside (except discomfort and dignity) but I don't actually know anyone whos gone into labour within 48 hours of having one. Fingers crossed you will be the 1st QK.

Cocodrillo · 03/02/2009 17:58

Congrats ElkieDee. Another boy! And what a whopper.

poor you rosie. And I hope everything's ok KT1983 - though if your resting heartbeat is 45 (wow!) I'm sure it is. Let's hope they deliver that baby soon MrsY.

DD1 has been off school with the snow yesterday and today. I sent DD2 off to the CM as usual today - dug the car out specially , I just cannot cope with the two of them together for long at this stage of pregnancy . They spend the whole day fighting or chasing each other backwards and forwards shrieking.

Sounds like DD2 has had a fine old time anyway: sledging and throwing snowballs .

Meanwhile, I've been cleaning and spending some quality time with DD1 - she played in the bath for over an hour this pm and then we had lots of stories. When does cleaning tip over into nesting? I'm trying to get things tidy and as decluttered as possible before the baby arrives - surely this is just sensible rather than mad hormonal stuff?

dinkystinky · 03/02/2009 18:06

Sorry you got admitted Rosie - but at least the end is definitely in sight and hopefully they'll be keeping a really close eye on you.

Questionkid - sorry about the blood pressure thing, again. Hope the sweep works for you. I agree, its not really something you'd sign up to do if you didnt have to, but hey, they do them all the time so they must work for some people...

McDreamy - your husband is so lovely!

OP posts:
McDreamy · 03/02/2009 18:12

He certainly has his moments Dinky Croc - I know exactly what you mean about them either fighting or running around chasing each other. It's been lovely not having to do the school run for 2 days but I am ready for DD to go back to school tomorrow!!

McDreamy · 03/02/2009 18:13

Anyone use/going to use reusable wipes? If so which ones and what solution do you use?

herbgarden · 03/02/2009 18:14

Afternoon everyone....
cocodrillo sounded sensible to separate the DD's - I palmed DS off at any opportunity towards the end - but can't imagine having had 2 to deal with.

Dinky - poor you - those toddlers sure know how to press our buttons don't they. DS's favourite expression at the moment is "sorry mummy"?!....

rosie sorry you've had to make an early arrival at the hospital. Not a great start but maybe you might be able to get some rest even if it's not during the night. Hope you've got some earplugs for those snorers.

Had a lovely afternoon with DH lunching and shopping and baby was really quiet and sleeping so no trouble.I really must make the most of it before she starts to hate her buggy and won't go in it. I was even brave and went and bought some jeans from gap. I can't get in my pre-preg ones (obviously -it's only been 10 days) but the mat ones won't sit on my wobbly belly so keep falling down and I really can't live in them forever. I bought a slightly larger size but they should tide me over for now. I really have to lose some weight as I'm due to be a bridesmaid at my sisters wedding early summer and the other two bridesmaids are half my age and a skinny size 8 - I do not want to be the "fat sister bridesmaid"......

Anyway, logging off now for an early night - I'm going to bed at 8pm each night - Dh does a late feed for me and then I do the middle of the nighters. At least I get one good run of sleep even if we never see each other. We used to do this with DS and it was the only way that I could keep my sanity although at least then i didn't have an active toddler to look after too !
Byee....

MrsY · 03/02/2009 18:29

Hi all -

Quick update as the in-laws are with me: docs will wait until Sunday when I'll be 38 weeks and decide wether to sweep, induce or section! Not long to go!

And

MarkStretch is pleased to announce the arrival of Frankie, born this morning at 11:05, weighing a healthy 7lb 15oz!!!!!

McDreamy · 03/02/2009 18:32

Congratultions MS - cool name! These little boys are catching up - if not overtaking

chilledmama · 03/02/2009 18:37

McDreamy- I use thevalue washable wipes
These wipes are really good cause one side is slightly rough for..well you can work that out and one side is lovely and soft. I also know others that have them and say they are the best dusters they have ever had!!
I don't use any solution while in the house, just warm water...DS has never had any problems. I tend to use normal wipes when out and about for convenience but do also have a spray which you can use with the washable wipes but can't remember what its called or where I got it...will have a look in a mo.

PinkTulips · 03/02/2009 18:43

congrats MS

MrsY · 03/02/2009 18:49

herb - do you express or use formula for the feed that your DH does?

McDreemy - a friend has a spray for her resuables that she got from the nappy lady, can't remember the name though.

QK - I'll be interested to hear how things work for you, as it seems I'll be in your shoes on Monday.

rosie - sorry you've been admitted, hope you can get lots of rest in advance of Friday!

KT - hope you got some good news when you went in...

herbgarden · 03/02/2009 19:20

Hi mrsy....I confess I'm not a breastfeeder. I tried it with DS and failed (even after getting a lovely NCT breast feeding counsellor on board) - I couldn't face going through the emotional trauma of it all again this time so I went down the formula route from the off (much to my sil's horror)....Anyway, so as we are formula, DH does the late feed - I know a lot of my friends who breastfeed would express that late night feed to allow their DH's to do that feed for them.

We always had that arrangement when DS was a baby too - I think it really helps everyone to get at least a good stretch of sleep - DH included. I find it hard to give up my evenings to sleep as DH and I hardly then see each other but in the long run I need my sleep and we see each other during the day at the weekends instead. It doesn't (hopefully) go on forever !

spottyshoes · 03/02/2009 19:58

Congratulations MS and welcome to Frankie - fab name!

Sounds like everyone is having trips in and out of hospital. Hope everyone is ok, not too much longer now!

I use the same washable wipes as linked except bought them from an ebay shop 10 for £3 inc P&P. They are fab for sticky poo (sorry) Also have lots of multi coloured fleece ones that you can get in boy and girl designs - again ebay. I'm the same as chilled and just use water at home and packet wipes when out. but you can store them in tub soaked in chamomile tea. I find that normal wipes seem pretty crap once your used to washables.

dinkystinky · 03/02/2009 20:00

Huge congratulations Markstretch on the safe arrival of Frankie! Great that she didnt need to wait too long for her section too - hope it was all calm and went smoothly and she and Frankie are recovering well....

McDreamy, my DH is now officially lovely too - he came home with flowers for me after my hormonal outburst at him earlier today. Knew I married him for a reason

MrsY - will keep my fingers crossed all stays ok with you till the decision is made on Monday.

my husband buys me a new iron to iron his work shirts

Questionkid · 03/02/2009 20:27

Ahhh, congrats to MS and welcome to Frankie. Such a sweet name.

I'll give you any significant updates on whether the sweep does anything, I'm not counting on it at all. I think they do it because it's something fairly easy (if uncomfortable) that the MW can do and there's nothing lost by trying. There's nothing to report since it was done although I think it dislodged some more of the plug (sorry if TMI). The good thing about it as far as I'm concerned was getting a report on the state of my cervix, I've found it a real boost to know that it's soft, becoming the right shape for labour and definitely opening up. The MW told me if my waters needed to be broken there'd be no problem with that as she could feel the membranes and the baby's head. Good to know that my body is definitely getting ready for the event.

dinkystinky · 03/02/2009 20:29

Hmm, Spotty, I think my DH knows there would be a high likelihood of the iron being exhibit A in a murder trial if he did that

Evening all!

Great news on the birth of Frankie, MS!

KT - hope all went well for you today and you got some reassurance. I just realised I haven't had any fundal measurements taken this pregnancy - hope that just means my midwife doesn't "believe" in them....

QuestionKid - with DD I had a sweep and my waters broke within the 48 hours. Of course you will never know if that's what would have happened anyway, but it's worth a try!

Herbgarden - it's so good to hear you are getting out and things are going well. And you still get to post on Mumsnet! You put me to shame!

Dinky - I had a really tough week last week with DD - lots of hormonal crying (me) and toddler tantrums (her). Somehow this week seems better but tomorrow's another day!!!

Rosie - hope everything ok for Friday?

We've been really snowed up here! I managed to venture out today but because our road is a hill it was pretty hair-raising!

Better be off now as got some stuff to put in the slow cooker overnight. Also got to get looking in the name book - I need a name for this boy!!! What do you think of Samuel if the surname starts with S??

catstar · 03/02/2009 20:53

McDreamy - what a lovely hubby!

Forgot to say good luck to LBB - who knows what might have happened by now....
