FGPL - think you've updated an old list as Swampster's baby isnt on there - try using McDreamy's one of 9.21 last night.

Lardy - not long to go now! Good news that the GP was good and reassuring...

OP posts:
herbgarden · 03/02/2009 10:39

Congrats Swampy ! 3 boys in one day and thank goodness no hiccups due to the horrendous weather.

MOS at your birthplan. I would have also added to mine - "please write on my notes that I've done a wee - five times already - so that I don't have to tell a sodding midwife every half an hour that I've been"....... I really did lose my patience on that one after a while.

We're going to venture out today - with baby - all wrapped up. DH needs new shoes and we're going to go for an indulgent lunch so hopefully she'll continue to sleep. DS at nursery again today so we are free !!....

lardy sorry you're still having a miserable time - hopefully not long to go for you now

lardybump · 03/02/2009 11:05

Haved a nice lunch Herbgarden!!

mumoverseas · 03/02/2009 12:08

herby, hope you have/had a lovely lunch.
Had to chuckle at your wee story, are they really that anal about you weeing? I remember getting constantly asked about pooing as they wouldn't let me go home last time until I'd done one. Stupidly I was honest with them but I think this time I'll lie like someone on here suggested. I am a human being, not a performing seal and I'll go when I'm good and ready!

Lardy, hope you feel better soon, not long now

Just toddling/waddling down to the local school hall as DD has ballet and thank god DH will pick me up on the way back.

eejaykay · 03/02/2009 13:04

Woo, indulgent lunch out with new baby sounds lovely Herb!

Well, after yesterday's hibernating, back to the real world today. I'm a little bit blue as my homebirth has just disappeared off over the hill. I asked the midwife this morning whether they test for Group B Strep in our area - the answer being no, not as a matter of course - as I vaguely remembered back in Feb 2007, when I had my first miscarriage, that I'd tested positive for Group B Strep and been given ABs. Not that I could quite remember as I'd lost 4 pints of blood, was on a drip, being told different things by what felt like 15 different doctors and had no blooming clue what was going on. Anyway, short end to a long story is that after chasing down my path records, I did remember rightly - and in our area they won't do a homebirth if you have / have had Group B Strep.

It's really not a biggie, there are much more important health issues I could have, it is far better to know about it and get the proper treatment (definitely the most important thing) and I can still be on the midwife-led unit and hide from the doctors if necessary. But right here and now, I am a bit disappointed, especially as I know other areas let you go and have the ABs in hospital but return home for the homebirth. Grrrr.

So I've eaten all my lunch and all my day's supply of chocolate in one go, feel a bit sick, and now have to go and be non-grumpy to my most annoying client. What would I do without you lot to moan at!

Ah well, normal servcie shall be resumed soon, promise

KT1983 · 03/02/2009 13:28

Hiya all,

Just in need of some reassurance please....
Went for my Midwife appointment, I thought it was going to be all routine, easy easy.
But he was checking the Heartbeat of baby & is was only 104bpm. Im being sent to the FAU in an hour to be monitored - he said he is concerned as she is small & with such a low heart beat they might even decide to induce.

Im still only measuring 31cm @ 39 weeks. I know Ive had scans that show she is growing, but im sooooo bloody worried now. DP is on his way back from London now.

Is there any reason why her HB would be so low? I have a very low pulse rate, so would this be linked? The midwife didnt seem sure.

Ideas anyone???

eejaykay · 03/02/2009 13:33

Hi KT

I can't offer any advice or answers at all, but very big hugs; I'm sure with all the health professionals keeping such a close eye on you, you are in the best possible place. Fingers crossed that the monitoring shows everything is OK. xx

MrsY · 03/02/2009 13:34

I was told 'normal' is above 110 bpm, but it is linked to your pulse etc. And the fundal measurement is really individual. I was told 39 cm and then 36 cm by two different people (about a minute after each other) so the midwife you see at FAU may get a compleatly different measurement.

What did the last growth scan put her at?

mumoverseas · 03/02/2009 13:37

oh KT, please try not to worry, I'm sure your little girl is fine. Seem to remember that you are one of the crazy fit girls on here? If so, you are probably slim and therefore I think it is less easy for them to do accurate measurements. If the scans you have had show that she is growing, then surely they must be more reliable than simply measuring up your bump (as discussed on here previously, its just a 'guesstimate')

I'm not an expert on HB's and pulse etc but again, if you are fit (which I think you are) then I would imagine your resting pulse would be lower than people like me (megga overweight who at the moment hyperventilates climbing the stairs).

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you but am sure all will be well and although its a pain going to the hospital, its best to be on the safe side xxx

dinkystinky · 03/02/2009 13:38

KT - please try not to stress; am sure they'll be able to reassure you on DAU (and a registrar there may be able to explain why her heartrate is so low). I think a low or high heartrate can be a sign of foetal distress so its good they picked it up and you're getting checked out - though it may just be that she is a very chilled little lady and there's nothing to worry about (here's hoping that is the case). While you're waiting for DP to come back, lie on your left hand side (increases blood flow to bubs) and just watch something mindless on tv (like Friends) to try and keep yourself distracted.

Eejaykay - so sorry you're not allowed your homebirth, though is strange they dont let you have it for group strep B (as I thought that is something that comes and goes, so you can be positive one time but negative another time) without testing again. Am sure the midwife led unit will be a nice home away from home (and you may well get a bit more help with breastfeeding etc being there than you would with a home birth etc.) feeling for you though.... Hope the chocolate is making you feel a little happier and good luck with your annoying client.

Herbgarden - hope you have a wonderful lunch out...

OP posts:
MrsY · 03/02/2009 13:40

Try and keep calm, but I know how you feel though, I'm back up to DAU myself, as even on the higher dose of labetalol, my BP is 168/98, so I think they're going to admit me until she puts in an appearance, spontaneous or otherwise. I'm just waiting for MIL to come and pick me up to take me in.

mumoverseas · 03/02/2009 13:40

eejaykay, sorry it looks like your planned homebirth won't be happening but I guess it is best to be on the safe side. Very jealous of all the chocolate you've consumed!

KT1983 · 03/02/2009 13:42

Thanks eejaykay I know your right, best be checked, even though a worry.

Mrsy Thats the thing, her last scan showed he at approx 6lb, but all the midwives seem to thing there is no way she will hit that due to the size of my tummy. My resting pulse rate is 45, so maybe thats why her heart beat is quite low. Glad to know it is linked. That makes me feel a little easier.

MOS yeh, its me thats the exercise freak, so yes, my pulse is pretty low. Ive always wondered about the meaurment thing - how can that be right?? Everyone is different shapes & sizes. I really dont think they should use the fundal height.

Am sure she will be fine. Just worrying when they speak about heart beats....

Thanks for all the quick replies everyone xx

KT1983 · 03/02/2009 13:45

Dinky Good idea....Il get upstairs & have a lie down.
Ive also got a big yorkie bar which ive scoffed - She is going crazy in there - She is perhaps just a chilled out little baby like you say

Mrsy I feel for you with all your trips to DAU. It must be sooooo stressful for you, no wonder your BP is high. I think mine will be today too!

dinkystinky · 03/02/2009 13:47

KT - to add to MoS's response, you probably have abs of steel which will make the fundal height thing even more inaccurate... hope all goes ok at DAU.

MrsY - sorry to hear about your blood pressure; hope it levels off and they either let you out again or madam decides to make an appearance very soon...

OP posts:
eejaykay · 03/02/2009 13:48

Cor, what a lot of lovely people you are!

KT1983 · 03/02/2009 13:51

lol @ Dinky Im not sure i have any tummy muscles left after carrying this little one. But i dont care, as long as I have my little girl all healthy, all be it small, but perfect

I second what eejaykay says - You are all so lovely, and its so nice to be reassured by everyone. xxx

dinkystinky · 03/02/2009 13:55

Just saw on the due in Jan thread, Elkiedee has had her baby - 10lber (!) called Conor.... think she and MsLucy will be on the postnatal ward at the Whittington together!

OP posts:
MrsY · 03/02/2009 13:59

Wow - I was just going to check the Jan thread and see if they had an update! Hoorah for elkidee!

mumoverseas · 03/02/2009 14:04

10lb! F* me! please tell me she had a CS?

KT1983 · 03/02/2009 14:04

Oh wow, Congrats to Elkiedee & Welcome to connor.

PinkTulips · 03/02/2009 14:17

KT... while i was in labour with dd they were still telling me she was going to be small as i had such a small bump.... she was a very healthy 7lbs 4 oz....... they talk out of their arses 90% of the time so don't pay any attention to their random guessing of baby's size, i haven't even asked this time as i think i could guess better than they could!

as for the heartrate, i'm sure it's nothing to panic about, if your pulse is characteristically slow then it's likely hers is too and it's nothing to worry about.... she'll be a fitness freak like you in years to come

good luck

eejaykay, so sorry you've lost out on your HB but at least you have a mw led unit close at hand so it should still be a nice relaxing birthing experiance.

fgpl · 03/02/2009 14:30

Sorry about that. Hope thats better

Dinky-Today was one of those days for donating DS to science so he's at nursery...despite the shit weather!!!

KT-Hope checks go well at DAU. I don't know enough about heart rates to offer any comments on it. I'm absolutley sure though, that if there is even a hint of a health problem, its best to get it checked straight away!

MrsY-bloomin heck... at your blood pressure measurements. Not what you need!!! Fingers crossed that get you in and sort it all out one way or another!

EJK-sorry to hear they've put the kybosh on your HB. Protocol on these sorts of things varies all over the country .

Rosie-sorry to hear about your hypos getting worse. It would seem that your LO wants to come and visit sooner rather than later!

Elkidee-Congratulations on arrival of Conor.

If computer swallows this I WILL NOT BE HAPPY.
