Thought I'd better start this soon.

belgianchocolates I couldn't have resisted a bargain like that either!

I'm excited to see what the outgrown monsoon items i've listed of DS will go for on ebay. They all have bids and a few watchers... hoping for a last min scrum I've more ending tomorrow & friday and then the next lot next week. Still have loads of stuff to list... vertbaudet, TU, M & S etc but think i'll leave that till the weekend. I get as excited about selling stuff as I do buying it!!!

Belgianchocolates · 21/01/2009 20:31

We don't know the sex, so that keeps my urge to buy cute baby clothes under wraps a bit really. I've been bidding for cat nets. Usefull, but not very exciting . I will be bidding for nappies soon though, like with the other 2 I'll go reusable again.

FiKelly · 21/01/2009 20:33

I have a Bjorn sling too... although it's out on loan at the moment. I didn't use it when DS was first born... as he was only 7lbs and felt he was too tiny. He really liked it though when I did use it. I used it every day when we were out in the garden letting the dog have a quick wee... and the odd shopping trip too when he was a bit grisly...

FiKelly · 21/01/2009 20:41

I've got re-useable nappies (although i don't use them all the time). I went for the fuzzibunz as they are as easy to get on and off as disposables and not too bulky on either. Loved the bright colours they come in too. I have others (mother ease & one life) that I tried too but these are my fav's. This site was very good for washable ranges www.twinkleontheweb.co.uk/acatalog/Fuzzi_Bunz.html

Jennster · 21/01/2009 20:47

my favourite reusables are bamboozles, although the nappy afficionados on here don't rate them as highly as other bamboo nappies. I also have Onelife and used large muslins from birth on ds. I'm really getting my money worth putting a 3rd child through them.

OP posts:
FiKelly · 21/01/2009 20:50

I looked at the bamboozles but DS was so tiny & was absolutely swamped in the onelife ones etc so i resisted temptation buying yet more to try. Liked the look of them though...

Jennster · 21/01/2009 20:58

I'd bought a few for dd in size 1, and then invested if a few size 2 popper which can be used as birth to potty.

I've got a number of different nappies from someone here on MN. She sold me the ones she didn't like, there were a couple of Bambinex, a wonderoo, a few Bambino Mio and another one that I can't remember. I had Kushies before too, but wont use them again, they lost their absorbancy too quickly and wore out before I could move on to next child. I like the thought of the bamboo nappies though. The Bambinex are soooo soft, much softer than the cotton ones and they do seem much more absorbant too.

Belgianchocolates · 21/01/2009 21:04

Pressed post before I was finished.
I can't wait to try all these nappies out and see whether the bamboo nappies really are that good. How different would you say are the Bamboozles and the Bambinex?
Right off to the bath now and then to sleep. I worked 1.5 hours over last night (didn't get home 'til 11pm) and I'm still shattered from it all.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 21/01/2009 21:18

Pula

Stand back and duck for cover whilst I pelt you with prunes and smugly think about my, um, regular movements.........

At least I don't have any problems there!!!

Jennster · 21/01/2009 21:19

I've never tried bambinex. They seem to have a wider size range. I can see ds (who weighs 2lbs less than dd does right now) will grow out of them

Evening all!

Slings and nappies - now there's subjects I can talk about. None of this linen cupboard/cleaning/ebaying for me.

We do cloth nappies full time and have got a few different kinds. I think I said it before, but anyone who's buying nappies before the birth don't buy a birth to potty pack - you might find that they don't suit your little one and then you'll have hassle of getting rid of them/finding some you like. Work out your priorities, get some advice from a seller (Bumfluff and Babykind are good) and then buy a few different types to try. Use them for a few weeks and then decide what to go for. You might find that you have different nappies for different occasions - going out, night time etc. Sorry - probably preaching to the converted!

Slings: stretchy wraps are great for newborns, very snuggly, and you only need to tie them in the morning and then pop baby in and out as you need to. And the weight is spread out over both shoulders and the whole of your back if you tie properly.

I've got terrible heartburn tonight, I ate too much choclate earlier and boy can I feel it now .

flippineck · 21/01/2009 21:36

Jennster - so sorry to hear about your accident, hope you recover well and speedily.

I had to take ferrous sulphate for a while after DD was born - annoyingly, my GP assumed I was anaemic because I was breastfeeding and tired(!) and I didn't think to question him - but anyway I had to stop taking them because I had terrible stomach cramps and constipation. When I insisted on blood tests I wasn't even anaemic! Grr, all that pain for nothing.

FiKelly · 21/01/2009 21:52

I'm feeling a bit wobbly about my decision re going for a vaginal birth after my last time horrid emergency cs debacle. Thinking an elective CS couldn't be as bad this time and worried I might have a disastrous natural birth this time.... now i'm not sure what to do! Arrgh. plenty of time to decide i suppose but i don't really fancy either options! Where is the sunroof / pop open hatch option when you need it

1stMrsF · 21/01/2009 22:30

Jennster - how horrible for you getting scalded, it must have been scary. Look after yourself.

Thanks for the reassurance about my furniture building - I feel I have done the right thing, particularly Jenn's point about the divorce proceedings that might result!!

FiKelly · 21/01/2009 22:57

Time for me to head off to bed i think. Hopefully I'll actually get to sleep a bit easier tonight and not toss and turn for over an hour like i seem to have been doing recently... fingers crossed

pulapula · 21/01/2009 23:11

FiKelly,

Don't stress too much, especially as you have weeks to change your mind, if that's what you decide to do. I had the opposite worry last time. I was so relieved to be booked in for my elective c but then wondered whether a second natural delivery might have been a lot quicker/easier, and that my complications were only due to DD being back-to-back and i was putting myself under the knife for no good reason.

In the end, you can never know what might have happened so you just have to make the best decision for you at the time you need to make it. I think for me, they gave me to week 36 to confirm what i wanted to do, so plenty of time still for you.

llareggub · 22/01/2009 05:59

jennster wow, that sounds painful. I hope you are getting better.

I've been up most of the night with DS, who crashed out at 5.30pm yesterday after an exhausting day with his grandparents. Unfortunately, that meant he woke up at regular intervals through the night, and I gave in at 5am and got up with him. A reminder of what life with a newborn is going to be like. The only upside, as far as I can see, is that at least in May it will be getting light quite early! DS was born in the depths of winter and it was horrid at night!

I'm going to buy a stretchy sling, I think!

Momino · 22/01/2009 09:03

morning all.
re: slings. have just bought a baby bjorn for a tenner on ebay. we'd borrowed one last time and i preferred it to my american brand fiddly one. with this type of sling, you can't use it too long which is why we bought cheaply. would like to get a backpack for when baby gets bigger.

i'll need to figure out how to walk with two toddlers, baby and a dog daily. got to encourage 3 year old to ride her expensive balance bike which remains untouched in a quiet corner of the house.

Belgianchocolates · 22/01/2009 09:32

Flippineck Good someone with recent experience of nappies! I never thought of using different ones for different occasions, but it does make sense. I ended up using disposable ones for the night as I found the nappies I had just didn't last through a whole night.
My youngest is 5 and in the mean time there seems to have been a big reusable nappy boom and there's so much choice; I just don't know what to go for. I'll try talking to one of those shops you advised, though still plenty of time for that ;) Will do that when on mat leave. At the moment I'm collecting a variety of nappies through eBay. Once I know which ones I like after lo is born I'll be able to buy a whole lot of the same.

FiKelly: Have a good think. History doesn't necessarily repeat itself. I've had a few lovely VBACs recently. Also you can negotiate things with your drs if you're assertive enough, like recently I had someone who wanted to try a vbac if she went into labour naturally, but then wanted a c/s if she needed to be induced for any reason or sometimes people ask to have their C/S a bit later if they feel 38 weeks is too early. As long as their are no other complications all that sort of requests can be done.

llareggub · 22/01/2009 09:49

Lovely, DS has just relieved himself all over my lap. Potty training seems to be going backwards today, although I did manage faint praise when DS called me at 4.30am to tell me he'd done a poo!

Lovely.

I'm going to try reusable nappies this time.

nauseous · 22/01/2009 10:03

Morning all

Everytime I see mini Eggs in Boots/Sainsbury's or wherever I smile and think of Mumsnet!

I would like to think I'd try reusable nappies at least whilst at home, but living in a flat with no tumble dryer I think I'd need one of those washing services...

llareggub sorry about your DS's accident! I'm guessing we'll all have to get used to this sort of thing!!

Not having any piles, constipation or indigestion - I just keep burping! At inappropriate moments!

HtheH · 22/01/2009 10:17

Warning as this message ma have TMI!! I am having a lovely time here in France, beautiful weather, yummy food etc. However last night I had a bit of a scare and wanted some reassurance/advice from you guys. Our room has a lovely big and deep corner bath so last night I had a gorgeous relaxing bath. When I got out I dried off and put on a dressing gown and was standing in the bathroom chatting to my dh when a bit of water drip out of me and onto the floor, we both looked down in horror. It was about 3 teaspoonfuls and splashed on the floor. I immediately paniced and thought my waters had broken I mopped it up with a tissue and it was clearish and pretty odorless. My husband is convinced it was just bathwater that had got up inside me in such a deep bath, I had a couple more drips out and now things seemd to have returned to my usual slightly watery, milky coloured discharge (again sorry if tmi!!!), with no odour. Should I worry and go to hospital, or could this have been bath water? I thought water couldn't get up inside you in the bath, has this happened to anyone else? Obviously I am worried, and being in France up a mountain would really like to avoid having to find a hospital - especially one that that deals with maternity and not just ski injuries!! I have no pain, no cramps, no more leaking really - aprt from what I think is normal discharge. Baby is still wriggling around and kicking happily. Any advice would be fantastic, I get home on Monday so could go to the hospital then? HAving had no experience of waters breaking I am not sure what it would be like, but would assume there would be lots more and maybe blood? Please let me know your thoughts.
x

Belgianchocolates · 22/01/2009 10:20

Haha, I'm suffering from wind coming from the other end. Yesterday when I took my dcs to their swimming lessons someone complained about the smell in the changing rooms and I had just broken some wind, so I thought it was my fault. Only to find out from someone a bit later that it had been smelly in there all day! Oh and I farted (audibly) while talking to a woman and her hubby at work too, I tried to ignore it and I think they did the same .

Belgianchocolates · 22/01/2009 10:23

HtheH Don't panick. I have bath water coming out of me after a bath, I know they say it's not possible, but I experience it everytime, whether pregnant or not. Maybe it's my pelvic floor muscles being a bit shot, I don't know. If you're concerned put a pad on and if it's wet after an hour, go to the hospital. More than likely it's just from being in the bath.
