Thought I'd better start this soon.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Breastfed baby poo yellow of course. The baby itself isn't supposed to go yellow

CoteDAzur · 05/02/2009 16:40

Hi everyone. Just had my 5 month scan. All good. One surprise - I've only put on 5 kgs at 24 weeks, but baby is still big. In fact, bigger than DD was at this stage, and she was born over 4 kg

Meanwhile, I got to see little one's face. I (shamelessly) posted his 'photo' in my pictures, if anyone is interested

pulapula · 05/02/2009 16:41

runningmonkey - my bump isn't much more hairy than usual - it got hairy during 1st pg and never really went away . I also had that line thing down my bump with DD but not with DS and no sign of it yet with DS2. Belly button definitely sticking out now (after a big hollow the other week). I am feeling really tired already- putting washing away and tidying toys has just about finished me off. And i've got another 15 weeks to get through. Need to summon up the energy to go to the cellar to get some fishfingers out of the freezer for DCs tea...

CoteDAzur · 05/02/2009 16:43

BelgianChocolates - Yes, of course I can refuse an episiotomy under any condition. But the way doctor says it, he will only do it if it looks like I will tear badly. And as much as I hated the episiotomy, at least I didn't have incontinence at either end. I don't want to refuse epi and end up with a bad tear, either.

Then again, I might be heading for a c-section anyway, since there is no way I will push out another 4 kg baby.

pulapula · 05/02/2009 16:44

Cote- i can't see the link to your photos on your profile- is it restricted or something?

CoteDAzur · 05/02/2009 16:48

It should be visible now.

Belgianchocolates · 05/02/2009 16:51

cote If you're obs can assure you that he'll only give you an epis if you're about to tear badly than that's fine. I was just thinking how in a lot of European countries episiotomies are still done a bit too quickly.

daizydoo · 05/02/2009 16:52

Cote what a gorgeous picture! Have you been tested for gestational diabetes? My consultant said that if you have a baby over 9lb then you routinely get tested for it around here - mine was 10lb so I well and truly qualified!!! I'm glad that the professionals are starting to listen to you. I'm still trying to decide whether to have a section or not, but am waiting for my 35 week scan.

CoteDAzur · 05/02/2009 16:53

He says that but he then says his overall episiotomy rate is 20% (HIGH, isn't it?) and because I already have a scar there, chances of needing another one are 50%! [scared]

MatthewAndBumpsMummy · 05/02/2009 17:01

divedaisy- thanx very much, yeah least the tabs are working!

didnt get up til midday today have been waking with really bad headaches at the mo and dh is off work on holiday at the mo so im making the most if it! anyone else still getting up for the toilet alot during the night? i am loads every time i wake i have to get up and go and it seems like its about 7-8times a night no wonder im finding it hard to get up in the morning!

ds has had so many colds this winter the child always seems to be ill bless him! he has asthma and as soon as he gets a slight cold it always leads to a cough and a bad chest which may also explain why im so tired coz he is not sleeping very well at the mo and ends up in with us most nights and hes such a fidget!

fikelly- not really sure how we changed his mind really, he still hasnt fully excepted it as a good thing i dont think as we still get the ocasional 'i dont want a baby' but it has seemed to improve. i think i just mention it when its relevant and try not to go on about it too much, i think days where we dont talk about it at all help as it lets ds know that its not gonna take over our lives completely and that he is still very important to us aswell not just the new baby.
when we do talk about it we always try and be as positive as possible and include him in what were saying, saying that mummy will need his help to change and bath the baby, and that he will be able to feed it sometimes. also really focus on the fact that he's gonna be a special big brother who the baby is gonna love playing with and is gonna need his cuddles aswell as mummy and daddys. im also making sure i tell him a love him lots and that he's mummy special boy even when the baby comes. lots of cuddles too. we have noticed that he doesnt like talk about when the baby comes out coz think he is scared mummy will be hurt, so we just tend to avoid that subject when he is around unless he brings it up and wants to talk about it. we just focus on the nice things! hope that helps sorry its a long reply but its such a complicated subject coz all children react differently and theres so much to think about.

CoteDAzur · 05/02/2009 17:06

daisy - First test for gestational diabetes is next month. I think doctor didn't think it necessary so far because my weight gain has been so low.

There are quite a few big babies in the family, so I didn't think limiting weight gain would help, but hey, had to go along with doctor. Because our deal is that I will put on low weight but if baby is still close to or over 4 kg, he will do a c-section.

AuldAlliance · 05/02/2009 17:07

Excuse me...

Côte
I have spoken to the MW I mentioned (not mine, the friend's sister who does home births).
If you don't object to e-mailing me at aalliance73 at yahoo.fr, I'll pass on what she said, and then update you if she comes up with any names. That way I can avoid constantly hi-jacking your ante-natal thread.
I don't use that address much, only for MN stuff, but will check sporadically over the next 48 hrs.

Sorry, ladies, I'll leave you to it, now!

daizydoo · 05/02/2009 17:17

I think big babies run our family too. My dad weighed in at a whopping 11 1/2lb when he was born!! My Grandmother had him naturally as well.

I'm fed up of me people I hardly know telling me I'm huge! They soon shut up when I tell them I had a 10 lber last time Anyhow I need to go and change a smelly nappy - oh the joy!

divedaisy · 05/02/2009 17:25

LOL!! Bump whiskers!!

pualpula - Oh you've it all ahead of you now!! My ds would just stnad there holding it in both hands through his clothes and twiddling it - you know the way you would rotate a pencil between thumb & fingers?? Then he'd annouce 'it's gone big', or 'its gone hard', or 'its stuck to the bit below my willie-john'. And when I told him it wasn't a very nice thing to do in public, he replied 'but it's nice for me Mummy!!' the best bit is when you get them out of bed at night to pee before you settle down and because 'its up' the pee goes everywhere! At least he never tried to paint with it!!

Good to see you again Jael - hope you are keeping well. Take it easy in the move! Happy New Home!!

re SMP etc - I went to the social security ofice and asked for the MA1 form for maternity allowance. As I said before I am not getting paid - silent partner in company, and getting a medical pension and Incapacity Benefit. I thought from readingthe back of the form the midwife gave me that if you did not have an employer to apply for maternity allowance. It turns out you have to have been employed recently, so because I'm not I don't get a thing . And because of DH salary I am not entitled to the social baby fund thing either! Bugger that! I'll just have to send DH out to do more overtime!! At least he has a job...!

Well must go and get ds off Indiana Jones Wii.

Started to snow here. Live in the middle of the country so got loads of milk & grapefruit juice in, incase I can't get up the hill tomorrow!!

divedaisy · 05/02/2009 17:35

Cote - what an amazing photo!! IS it the 3D one??? God I am so jealous (in a nice way!) DH told me the other night he'd really like to know the sex of thisone. I've no more routine scans so told him it would have to be a privately paid for one. I asked him why - he said 'to be prepared' 'for what?' I asked 'Oh just to be prepared!!' So I told him the only preparation needed to be done was to think of a boys and a girls name! - as everything else has been prepared by me! Anyway he'll find out soon enough! Nice surprise!

sausagenmash · 05/02/2009 17:37

Hello again..

Dandy... really sorry to hear about your probs, but it sounds like you are in really good hands. Also, happy to chat about puberty stuff (can't remember who else asked, soz) - but am new to MN and can't even post links and don't know what CAT-able means - if you tell me how I'll do it! Anyway, once I know when I can do CAT things, happy to answer puberty stuff and do links (don't want to hijack this thread).

Looby - am a first time mum, soz, can't really help with nursery questions. But would guess at qualifications, CRB checks and policies re medications (spot the nurse!) Only from the other side of the coin, myself and the allergy nurse at work have a terrible time liaising with schools and nurseries about children having medication at school, even down to the school holding an epipen, or inhalers! Would love to know what their standpoints are!

Belgian - have only done the risk assessment thingy because my manager is so anal - ALL my policies, proformas and protocols etc are up to date, referenced and very shiny!! Had to do it with my puberty girls as I'd be bashed otherwise!

Going to do nappy research tonight! Thank you so much, everyone! Showed DP the pretty changing bags and he just snorted and found a very sensible unisex one (boooo) - still, have managed to convince him re the bugaboo

sausagenmash · 05/02/2009 17:41

pulapula you were the other one who asked about my job (and btw your children are gorgeous) - will try and work out this CAT thingy...

sausagenmash · 05/02/2009 17:54

Am registered for CAT things! Now what happens?

pulapula · 05/02/2009 17:55

Thanks sausagenmash. I should put some new photos on as DC have changed again in the last 6 months.

I haven't tried the CAT thing either so can't advise on how it works. I will look into it.

Cote- that scan picture is amazing. Really tempted to have a 3d scan done in a few weeks time.

sausagenmash · 05/02/2009 18:04

You're welcome, pulapula - I really do hope my LO ends up looking as lovely as yours, and not looking like me when I was a baby (fat and covered in eczema, with hair sticking up all over the shop!)

Agree - cote - that pic looks fab! Want to get one of those done, but DP doesn't think we need to..... pah. Am dead jealous

dandy I took baby aspirin for the first 12 weeks because I had 2 early miscarriages last year in consecutive cycles. When I got pregnant for the 3rd time I took myself off to the GP and she told me that she'd heard that aspirin can be effective in preventing miscarriage in some circumstances. We had no idea if those circumstances applied to me because I hadn't had any tests, but I decided to take it anyway. It was only when my consultant told me to stop taking it at 12 weeks, when the risk of mc reduced) that I googled it. I suspect I'll be talking to my consultant about taking it again, as there is a higher risk of PE with GD, and I've already had some of the symptoms.

I like the extra scans too, although with DS towards the end I could barely see anything he was so big.

I had a lovely snooze this afternoon, as DH came home early and I could handover childcare and retire to bed. I feel so much better for it. I'm getting really tired in the afternoons, but thankfully I have only 2 weeks left in work now!

sausagenmash · 05/02/2009 18:17

Ah well I've paid now so I'll CAT you - want to see how it works anyway!!

... won't say a thing about the small willies... ... although I see a fair amount of them in my job too!!
