Thanks Belgian would there have been much more water than this if it had been my waters and would I be having pains or something? If there is no more leaking today and no pains etc. do you think I can stop worrying. It is horrid being in a foreign country and not knowing what to do.

Belgianchocolates · 22/01/2009 10:43

No when your water break you don't necessarily have pains, you might reel a pop. It doesn't have to be a big gush, you might have a constant small trickle, which is why I suggested wearing a pad and to see if it's wet in an hour. If you've had no more leaking at all since last night, then I wouldn't worry too much about it, more then likely it was from being in the bath. If you get more trickling, then definitely have yourself checked out a.s.a.p. and that would mean in France if you're not back until next week.
I know what you mean with being in a foreign country. I had a miscarriage last year while I was in Belgium. It is my country, but I haven't lived there in over 10 years now and so I wanted to be where I knew how the gynae and mat services worked. So I ended up phoning my GP in the UK, who put me through to my hospital and they gave me advise on the phone.

HtheH · 22/01/2009 12:05

I am a tiny bit damp, but no more than usual discharge, no obvious wetness or trickling. Does amniotic fluid have a smell? I read somewhere it smells sweet - what does that mean?!!

llareggub · 22/01/2009 12:22

Are you sure it isn't wee? If you are drinking a lot it might be clear and odourless.

Belgianchocolates · 22/01/2009 12:32

If you feel it's your usual discharge, then it is. But if you feel you want to be sure, have yourself checked out. It might give you some piece of mind. However all they'll do is a speculum (like when you have a smear) and see if they can visualise any fluid coming from your cervix, so if you're not losing anything at the moment, then they wont find anything and send you home. Very very maybe, depending on where you are and what the hospital's policy is, they might give you a scan to see if the volume of fluid is normal.
I've got a very bad sense of smell, so unfortunately I can't tell you if it smells or not! The odor of amniotic fluid usuallly only crops up if its offensive.

I just bought 'Hello Baby' on Amazon and I got a confirmation e-mail to say that the estimated date of delivery was the 1-4 of jan 2010! I hadn't noticed that the paperback version isn't in print yet, so I cancelled it and bought the hardback one. Can you imagine? The baby would be 8 months or so by the time the book I bought to prepare my 2 for the homebirth of their brother or sister. Way after the event!

llareggub · 22/01/2009 12:39

I've just spend the morning sorting through Ds's baby clothes, and have washed two loads. Very satisfying and I really don't need to buy anything for this baby at all. Dreading the ironing this evening!

DS is finally asleep after our very early start and I would be too, except the alarm man is due this afternoon to service the alarm.

pulapula · 22/01/2009 13:08

HtheH,

try not to worry too much. I get water leaking out of me quite often after baths or swimming, sometimes a while after lol. bit of a pain when i've got my clothes on and my pants/pjs get wet!

When my waters broke there was a pop and a massive gush, but i know that some people have more of a slow leak. If you think it is more than your usual discharge, then i guess you should try a local hospital.

Momino · 22/01/2009 13:19

HtheH, when my waters broke both times it was a gushing of non-stop water, almost like having a wee that didn't stop. if it kept coming, i would say call hosp straight away but 3 tbs very likely bathwater. however, see how you are in the next few hours and definitely call your midwife when you return so you can get checked

Try not to worry but - as precaution - don't take any more baths till you talk to mw as there is risk of infection. showers i think ok.

Momino · 22/01/2009 13:22

llareggub, impressed you even iron! Ironing? What's that?

sausagenmash · 22/01/2009 13:25

Hello everyone - nice new thread!

HtheH - I'm afraid I'm new at this game too, but the others seem to be offering very sage advice - hope it works out ok

Jennster - owowowww - hope you are ok!

Sooo... me and dp were looking at prams etc last night on t'internet, and he is trying to put me off the very nice red and black bugaboo chameleon I have my heart set on and have already been putting money by for. Poo. Has anyone got anything bad to say about it, because so far I've only got good feedback from people. If I go back to him and say "mumsnetters say its soooper" then he might believe me. We are going to go for a play in John Lewis Oxford Street next weekend, so will obviously make our own minds up....

On another note, had my 20 week scan this morning (even though I'm 22 + 1) and all is very well - I have a nice long cervix apparently (ugh) which can apparently signify all sorts of good things! Nearly threw up half way through though, because the room was so hot and I was really uncomfy on my back and the sonographer was really having a good poke about. We also found out that we are having a girl flavour which I am over the moon about, but natch would have been happy either way!! We're only telling our parents - but I think MN can know too!

Lalalalaaaaa.... I'm off to the dentist this afternoon but think I will get a creme egg for afters...mmmmm..

sausagenmash · 22/01/2009 13:30

Fraid I'm an ironing freak too. Even - and especially - sheets. Sad, I know

llareggub · 22/01/2009 13:32

There aren't many of us around, sausagemash!

Momino · 22/01/2009 13:39

sausagemash, congrats on the girl! HOpe you like pink !

Jennster · 22/01/2009 14:02

Went to dressing clinic this morning and my chest is no where near as bad as they thought it would be. It has barely blistered, and my face is just pink not purple now. It did look rather alarming.

Off to do an afternoons worth of cooking after doing a mega shop in Sainsburys. I spent more than I usually do, but I got some really good deals on lots of things and have stocked up. All the meat is organic, my freezer is full of Pizza Express pizzas and meat, I have the whole weeks shop and it cost £30 less than I would have estimated without adding up. I love their basics range of fruit and veg, but have noticed that many of those are now not as good value as some of their other offers.

OP posts:
sausagenmash · 22/01/2009 14:30

Jennster - you can't beat pizza express pizzas!! YUM! Glad your chest is ok

Thanks for the congrats, momino! I used to like pink... about 30 odd years ago! Think my parents will finally be happy to get rid of my dolls house out of their attic after all these years!! (must admit, I did buy a little pink bunny on the way home from the hospital - pathetic, but true!)

llareggub - thank God its not just me! I love getting into a freshly made bed with nice ironed sheets. Dp thinks I am bonkers, and most of my friends do too!

Off to the dentist now. Haven't been for donkeys, but now taking full advantage of the free dental care!

FiKelly · 22/01/2009 14:56

pulapula & Belgian chocolates thanks for the re-assurance re my vbac wobbler last night. It's weird that I'm torn between the vbac and elective cs as a month ago i was totally decided on vbac! I think the knowing exactly when #2 is arriving is swaying me to cs as my parents are disabled and unable to have DS if i go into labour... my close friend is expecting her baby #2 any time from the next 4wks and my other friends work full time and have their children with childminders. So if i knew exactly when we were having #2 I could organise for one of them to take the day off (they've offered but need to know in advance) to look after DS. We have no other family in the area (DH mum & brother etc in scotland & we're at the other end of the country in weston-super-mare). If they could guarantee that I wouldn't be passing in and out of conciousness for 6hrs+ after post elective CS and be awake to remember the first 2 breast feeds of #2 this time etc I might just give it a go (not sure why i wasn't awake after EmCS last time... all i had was a spinal block and was awake for the whole op... it was after it went weird & wrong).

htheh yep! i get a whoosh of bath water after coming out of the bath all the time. Didn't notice this before having DS but now I waddle with the towel between my legs when i first get out just in case!

llareggub oh no! hope your laptop recovered from its unexpected shower ok

nauseous we live in a flat with no tumble dryier too... that's partly why we went for the fuzzibunz... they're the stuffable sort & dry extremely quickly... the inners take a bit longer (got some microfibre ones & some bamboo ones for extra absorbency) & I bought few extra inserts to allow for bit longer drying time.

sausageandmash congrats on your girl

jennster great news about your scald blisters etc. you must be relieved today to know the hospital don't think it's as bad as they thought it would

Polony · 22/01/2009 18:00

Have I found the May babies thread or is this creme eggs anonymous?

Hello I'm due the 27th May.

Does anyone know anything about higher HCG in blood test and subsequent scanning? My midwife and GP don't seem to know much about it and apparently I need scans every month now. Baby is great, growing just fine, kicking like a bull...I have some pre existing health issues, but am essentially ridiculously healthy - its been suggested to me that this is why they want to check, to keep an eye on everything. Its not such a big deal - although , no matter how nice it is for us to see our little friend regularly, I'm not sure little friend will be all that pleased with all that scanning.

sausagenmash · 22/01/2009 18:29

Hello Polony - same date as me!

I went to sainsburys after the dentist, with firm intentions in buying a creme egg. However, after being told I need a filling refilled, I didn't think it was very wise

Not sure about the higher hcg levels - I always thought higher levels meant more than one baby! Are you / have you been extra sicky at all? Apart from that, and everything is hunkydory, I can't think why..

FiKelly · 22/01/2009 18:45

Hi polony Sorry i don't know anything about HCG levels either. It is nice to have lots of scans though I got loads last time due to early bleeding problems... so this time with only getting 2 scans i'm missing them a bit!

llareggub · 22/01/2009 19:21

I'm having more scans than usual because I have gestational diabetes. The frequent scans are to check the baby's growth as GD can produce a bigger baby. Is this factor for you?

chocolatebunnies · 22/01/2009 21:36

Hi ladies,

I think it is safe for me to join now we're on a new thread, I have name changed for my own safety, I would ask that no-one post my old names or real name (if you can work me out or remember who I could be lol) just to protect myself for a while.

I have a DD who is 27 months and am due 22nd May, but I'll stay off the list for the time being. God Im a wimp!

Thanks for all your support on the previous thread, and I hope you all will accept me back in

Chocolatebunnies

Polony · 22/01/2009 21:39

Hmm, I don't think so llareggub, if it is its not something thats been discussed at any of the appts I've had. Baby's measurements are all good, not big not small - I have muscular dystrophy (very rare type, wobbly legs, very very unlikely to be passed on to our child) but its not related to growth at all. By the way, I have seen little one's beautiful, strong healthy legs and can feel them frog kicking for gold! I did have a hunch that since there is so little known about what I've got that they might be covering every angle but you'd think they might have said so. Or offered some explanation about what the hcg has to do with it. Its making me nervous about being monitored in labour too closely.
Sausagenmash - there seems to be just one baby in here, I did have 24 hr sickness for a good three months, not nice but nothing a bit of cheese and pickalilli couldn't fix, but have been fine lately. It didn't really surprise me that much that I would have higher hcg because of the sickness and because when I did my test I remember the positive sign raging away in the little window instantly. But I hadn't expected that to be a problem - I even thought it was meant to be a good thing. I feel great - even during the sickness I felt strong and well, masochistic as that sounds.
And thanks FiKelly, I think I'll just try and enjoy the scans. It doesn't seem like its that much to be worried about, they're probably just taking extra care.

Thanks for your responses!

bekkaboo · 22/01/2009 21:52

welcome back chocolate bunnies, hope all goos with you

chocolatebunnies · 22/01/2009 22:01

Thanks Bekkaboo , everything is going well now, thankfully!

Hows is everyone today??

EmmalinaC · 22/01/2009 22:19

Welcome polony and welcome back chocolatebunnies (We know who you are!)

Jennster sorry to hear about your accident - you must be very relieved to learn it's not as bad as it first seemed.

HtheH I hope everyone has put your mind at rest. When my waters broke with DD there was an audible pop and then it was like that Little Britain sketch - no mistaking it for a post-bath dribble!

I had a MW appointment today. It was all nice and normal for once. Unfortunately I forgot to ask for an MATB1 form and I am now 25+2. Does anyone know what happens if I give it to my employer late?

Also I started pregnancy yoga on Tuesday night. I don't really buy into the whole toxin-free-natural-birth-vegetarian-chanting thing but it was lovely and relaxing - had a great night's sleep afterwards so I would really recommend it.

A friend brought round some mini chocolate eggs for DD today but I don't think they're suitable for a two-year old so I'm off to scoff them all myself

Hope everyone else is keeping ok.
