Thought I'd better start this soon.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
FiKelly · 19/01/2009 19:03

HtheH I was prescribed lactulose when pregnant with ds last time. This time i've held off by doing what belgianchocolates says... and the addition of the odd small amount of prunes when it gets v bad... don't go overboard on them though as you'll end up the other way! (i know as i made that mistake at first)

Salivating at all the creme egg talk but chocolate is back to giving me hives so i'm having to avoid it or I break out in a horrendous red & blotchy very itchy rash

HtheH · 19/01/2009 19:43

I am a veteran of constipation, I suffer even when not pregnant. I eat prunes every day for breakfast and lots of fibre, as well as 3 litres of water a day, this is the only way I can stay on top of it when not pregnant, so finding it challenging at the moment. I think as my body is used to high fibre, prunes e.t.c. I am suffering even more. I am going to try the lactulose for a few days just to try and get back into a routine. Thank you for all your advice. Belgian it would also be great to have reassurance re. flying tomorrow and going to altitude, my doctor is so laid back she is almost horizontal and doesn't seem that clued up about pregnancy. She looked at me with shock when I asked her what foods I should be avoiding, her answer was none that she was aware of! She had never heard about unpasteurised cheese e.t.c. Very odd, and not surprising I don't trust her very much!

EmmalinaC · 19/01/2009 19:44

Like Fi I'm a prune fan. Five prunes always does the trick. Any more and there's trouble ahead...

I like this new thread. Well done Jenn!

Hope you're all well. I'm very tired today, work, weather, whatever, and starting to feel like a bit of a lump. I got my maternity pillow think out the loft at the weekend so at least I can get comfy in bed again.

detsy · 19/01/2009 19:51

Belgian - excellent creme egg info - well done you! However has inspired me to crave even more, made DP divert to services yesterday but they had none in stock. Not much luck at the mo with my satsuma and creme egg desires!!

As for mooing and/or chooing I'm with Jennster and the foghorn but accompanied by some quite serious holy m of f swearing (apparently...)

DD just woken up screaming her head off - she's settled again now, hope she hasn't got one of the nasty sickness bugs that are flying about. Puking babies really frighten me and I end up sitting up all night as I won't be able to lie her down for fear of her puking in her sleep.... oh dear...

flippineck · 19/01/2009 19:54

Wow, lovely new thread ladies, please can I have a glass of champagne and some olives? No creme eggs for me, bit sickly. Ta muchly.

1stMrsF - you can get a BabyJogger with pneumatic tyres, I think it's the Elite or something like that? Haven't pushed it yet.

I've tried and ruled out the P&T (knees bash on lower toddler seat), a lot of tandem (rather than side by side) pushchairs, iCandy Pear (too heavy, too bulky and too expensive), Silver Pop duo (don't like strollers for newborns). OutnAbout still current favourite, but am going to look again at the EasyWalker as although my first impressions were that it's enormous, the website claims it's only 75cm wide, narrower than the OnA. And it has a carrycot for newborns, which I really liked.

detsy · 19/01/2009 19:55

Oh and thanks for the info on double rear facing buggies - I need to start some serious research into this area I think. It will have to live in the car as I'm fast running out of room in the house (well have run out to be honest which is just ridiculous as there are only 3 of us at mo)

flippineck · 19/01/2009 20:02

That should of course be Silver Cross Pop duo!

I also meant to say that I'm not a mooer or a chooer, but definitely do animal noises - more like grumbling or growling, with a lot of groaning.

llareggub · 19/01/2009 20:24

I'm hoping that we'll be able to do without a double buggy, but I think the only real solution will be a sling and a reins for DS. He really is bit of a bolter!

Belgianchocolates · 19/01/2009 20:57

Flying is OK, I wouldn't worry too much. It's only once you get to the 30 weeks that I'd first check with the airline. Make sure your travel insurance know you're pregnant. There's really not that much to worry about with flying, especially short flights. For long haul flights I'd wear flight socks and try to get up every hour or so, because you're even more prone to DVTs while pregnant.

Never heard anyone choo in labour yet though, but our CTG monitors at work have a little chugging train when they're in use, so it made me think of that. However if I ever meet a woman at work who is mooing AND chooing in labour I'll know she's been on MN!

I'm waiting for my first physio appointment for my SPD and looking forward to it, because I hope it will bring me some relief. I survive my shifts on co-codamol and I don't like taking drugs during pregnancy really. I'm counting down to maternity leave (only 5 more weeks to go). I'm fed up with not being able to take even 1 step without pain and fed up with not being able to turn in bed either without pain, sitting up or feeling my pubic bone grinding. It's just so bad already at 24 weeks that I just really dread who my SPD is going to be by 34 or even 40 weeks. I'm afraid I'll end up on crutches I know that as soon as I'm on maternity leave and our au pair has gone, I'll have to hire a cleaner, because I'm already struggling with cleaning now (the au pair is useless when it comes to housework). Can't wait for the baby to be here, have my body back (sort of I'll have Dolly Parton boods) and be able to move normally again.

Belgianchocolates · 19/01/2009 20:59

Just re-read that. I don't know who my SPD is going to be, because that would be impossible. how it's going to be, that's what I meant!

flippineck · 19/01/2009 21:00

llaregub - I'd like to do without a double too, happy with a sling and a single buggy, but DH will not be convinced. I'm hoping that by doing a lot of research now and identifying a favourite I can suggest that we try for a couple of weeks with no double, but if it doesn't work then he can go out and get exactly what we both agreed on.

Belgianchocolates · 19/01/2009 21:07

With my first 2 I didn't have a double until my dd was about 6 months and became too heavy for my to carry. After that I got a 2nd hand double buggy (gracy duo I think it was), which I only really needed for about 6 months and after that my ds was OK to stand on the buggyboard for longer periods. I actually tried lots of different types of double buggies. All 2nd hand and I kept the one I liked. I sold the others on eBay (bought them in the Bargain Pages) and even made a £10 profit on them! The reason I bought my double buggy 2nd hand is because I knew I'd only use it for a short time and it seemed a lot of money for something I'd use for less than a year.

pulapula · 19/01/2009 21:25

With my first 2 i just got a double mclaren buggy off ebay for a tenner (bargain). I hardly used it as it was too heavy for me so i'd just use single buggy and make DD walk, and then it broke. I have used my phil&teds loads in the last month (since i got it) as its so easy to push. Looking forward to using it with the baby as it has a lovely cocoon so they can lie flat under the buggy seat. My friend who sold it to me said its great for rocking the baby to sleep and taking them to a cafe for lunch and putting them under the table asleep- sounds like a perfect lifestyle- lets hope i can do the same!

FiKelly · 19/01/2009 21:25

i've already splurged and bought the bugaboo buggy board for ds to use when i've got the chameleon in basinette mode for #2 bt i'm still really keen on the bibi swiss strollirider ride-on bike as i'm not sure if DS will cope with standing all the time... he'll be 2.75 yrs when #2 comes along...

llareggub · 19/01/2009 21:25

I think I'm being a tad optimistic. My friends are managing so far but their babies are still very little. Maybe I'll see how it pans out for them.

DS was a nightmare again this evening. I don't know what has got into him. It didn't help that he had a tantrum when MIL was here because he wanted to play with his scaletrix type thing and I said no because I was about to serve dinner. Of course, because of the tantrum MIL got it out for him. I was NOT amused.

detsy · 19/01/2009 21:31

flippin great idea - thanks for curbing my instatntaneous desire to blow a huge heap of money on something we may not need. I think also that we will see how we fare in the early days with sling and Bee guess it depends how well Lottie is walking.

Blimey belgian - au pair what with that and frazzleds utility, I think I may go and sulk in bed...

One of the neighbours came round today to check on me as I looked so knackered (and p*ssed off!) on sat night, so guess I could do with an early night!!

detsy · 19/01/2009 21:37

llare agree on the optimism, I think the same but all the doubles I like are ridiculous ££ - I need to invent something... MY DD will only be 18months so am being pretty unrealistic I suppose

Guess your DS is just going through one of those many phases and sympathise that MIL blatant disregard of your parenting didn't help!

Ok def off to bed. Changed it and put on my "ironed" posh linen so its a little treat at the mo - small things hey..!?

Belgianchocolates · 19/01/2009 21:37

detsy Honestly I'd rather not have an au pair but DH works away from home (he's away for 9 days and home for 6) and I work shifts. We have no family in the area, so we have to rely on hired help. There's no nursery or after school club in the world that would be happy to have my dc's overnight, until 10pm OR from 6 am. So an au pair is our only solution. I'd rather have my dh at home every day than an au pair.
I also have a utility though, so you can definitely at that! My dh didn't want one, he just wanted 1 big kitchen, but I put my foot down when we redid the downstairs and said that under no circumstances I'd have the washing machine in the kitchen and end up with piles of laundry all over the kitchen ever again!

detsy · 19/01/2009 21:42

Oh gosh - what does he do? Hired help does sound very upstairs downstairs tho
I used tohave a cleaner but she had to go as part of the econmy drive - mind you am so shattered after working from home, looking after DD, cleaning etc etc that she may well be reinstated soon. Office tomo for a rest!!!

Am def sulking and now

detsy · 19/01/2009 21:44

Apols for bad punctuation - should b on a separate line....
nighty night

llareggub · 19/01/2009 21:49

Our cleaner went because she didn't clean. Not sure what she did but it didn't make any difference to the cleanliness of the house!

flippineck · 19/01/2009 21:49

Cleaning? What's that then?

Actually, will have to get house in order this week as PILs are visiting for a week (they live abroad so can't do short visits). MIL already thinks I'm incompetent, she'd try to confiscate DD if she saw the state of the house right now! This week is going to be tricky though, DH away til the end of the week, I'm doing my usual 3 days at work (with long commute), DD is playing up because Daddy isn't here, PILs arrive saturday morning. When to clean?!

SpangleMaker · 19/01/2009 22:47

Flippineck that's my attitude to cleaning too

I'm definitely going to look into getting a cleaner when I go back to work. DH works 6 days a week so the majority of the time I'm not working I'll be occupied with childcare. Don't really want to do it on a Sunday when it's the only day we can have fun together.

Is it just me being hyper aware or do there seem to be loads of stories in the news about babies born at 24/26 weeks... very scary! Lets hope we all hang on until May (or April at least) for all the mooing, chooing, braying [DH decided I will sound like a donkey ] etc!

pulapula - do you have the Skate already? WHat do you really think of it? Have you read the Which? review on it - it's described as a shopping trolley, and aparently isnt too good on escalators and up/down curbs - any views on these? I really liked it and at the mo it's top of my list! Though I do want to see the Ziko Herbie by M&P before I commit to anything!

I went shopping today and came home from the Mexx outlet shop with a couple of gorgeous girl baby outfits!! 2x dresses with matching bloomers/trousers, 2 long sleeve tops to wear wth the trousers and tights for wearing with the dress, and coordinating hats!! OK I don't know if it is a girl, but I have a couple of boy outfits, so thought it was only fair I got something in case it's a girl!!!

Also saw my anaesthetist and I can have an epidural - in fact he's pleased I've asked for one - I'll be getting one asap and then if I need an emergency CS it may do, or I will get a spinal, and last option would be a general anaesthetic. So that is reassuring.

Anyway - mini eggs for me!!

And I love our new thread title!! Moo-Choo!!!
