OK, scones gave me heartburn/indigestion - serves me right I guess. Vacuuming over (the benefit of 1 bed flat), about to crack open the Gaviscon in "celebration"!

chocciedooby · 18/02/2009 18:53

lol bunnymother

ermintrude13 · 18/02/2009 19:00

Ooh bunnymother is it peppermint mucus or aniseed snot flavour?

Tee have these people not heard of green, yellow, neutrals or primary colours?! There are lots with little designs like stars on which would do for either sex. Or they could wait to find out and then buy. Honestly!

Hope your boss is sympathetic and flexible.

bunnymother · 18/02/2009 19:08

Oh God, it really is awful isn't it?! I chose the "lovely" peppermint mucus flavour. This might have put an end to my scone craving...

MrsMcJnr · 18/02/2009 20:50

Hey ladies just checking in after a hectic few days, all good here and hope things are with all of you too. I will catch up but just wanted to say in the meantime:

Ineed - lovely news congrats on a beautiful blue bean

Tee - hope you are feeling much better

All the Babies - keeeeeeeeeeeeeep Kicking!

Tee2072 · 18/02/2009 20:53

ermintrude I know! And it was, in fact, my 9 year old niece, who is making the baby a bead necklace, who realized she can make it blue and pink!

ermintrude13 · 18/02/2009 21:15

Good move bunnymother. The aniseed lingers longer in the mouth. Bllleurgh.

Aww Tee, that necklace can be something for baby's box of precious stuff. It's nice when family members get all excited about making things - my mum never knits these days so I'm hoping for something from my sister who's taken up her needles after the 'stitch 'n bitch' craze last year.

MrsMcJr, LOL @ the Tess Daley impression there. Or were you being Brucie?

June2009 · 18/02/2009 22:19

bunny I've been having heartburns here too, doesn't matter what I eat and keep forgetting to buy the bleeding gaviscon

Ineed Have you been recommended magnesium for spd? A lot of the french sites seem to recommend it so I've been taking it for the past couple of days, that and being really careful not sitting down too long seems to help.
Physio appointment on monday...

We got a few cheap bits and bobs from Ikea and Asda today, seen online that babysrus are doing half price sale and smyths toys have good prices too. Went to mothercare and was a bit gutted at how expensive everything is there.
juicy saw some swimsuits there for around 15 to 20 pounds, they're not really pretty though. Nothing in bright colours anyway.

I was looking for nursing bras on the net and realised the three bras I bought from mothercare 2 months ago ARE nursing bras!!!
(Spent a lot of time hooking and unhooking them this afternoon!) oh well, that's that crossed off my list :D

Juicygirlpink · 18/02/2009 22:21

Erm & bunny - anaseed snot for me!

Just indulged in a huge fresh cream éclair not the regular sized ones you get in a supermarket packet a proper one from the bakers costing a whole 2 British pounds!!!! devine!!!!!!!

I have to hold my nose when I take the gaviscon I feel it has a strange fishy aftertaste!!!!!

X x

daisy5 · 19/02/2009 07:55

Hello all,

Can't sleep...as coming down with a cold and throat hurts too much to sleep anymore. DD had the same cold for the past five days and been awake a lot at night (however God bless Medised!). So begin to feel quite tired and grumpy.

Whole household asleep as dp taking a holiday today and tomorrow. We are going to visit Chester today, or at least that was the plan yesterday.

Just to say, I spent a small fortune on Gaviscon last time, only for the midwife to tell me afterwards that I could have got a prescription for it from her and paid for by NHS. Worth trying isn't it - it is not cheap.

Oh, and I was really grateful for not only the 3-6 month presents, but especially the 6-12 month presents as that is when not only do they look great in the little outfits but they last much longer too. Some kind soul bought a gorgeous 6-12 Monsoon outfit that she wore for about 9 months and looked wonderful in. Sometimes it doesn't work with the seasons and what is in the shops though!

lauraloo09 · 19/02/2009 08:51

morning all I will try and catch up with the posts later...must warn you all this is a 'me' post!

Went back to work yesterday and was pulled into my managers office to be asked what my intentions are when returning next march from maternity leave i.e if I am thinking about applying for job share. I didnt think they had a right to ask me this until much nearer my return I felt I was in a very awkward situation and was feeling harassed by the whole thing, went home last night in tears thinking that I wouldn't have a job to go back to after maternity leave!

also still feeling rotten but this morning I cannot stop being/feeling sick, all I have had is my usual cereal oj and my cup of tea I have every morning and now I feel light headed and sick constantly. I have been up since 3am as have been taking cramps and pins & needles in both arms and legs, I am beginning to get very worried about this, can anyone tell me if this is a normal symptom??

sorry again for the long 'me' post

Myneaux · 19/02/2009 09:05

morning everyone

thanks ermintrude for the sensible advice about feeding....you are right that it is such an emotive subject that sometimes you feel that you just cant ask (thanks heavens for mumsnet).

thanks also for the advice about swimsuits...am also worried that a bigger size will accomodate the bump but I wont have anything to put in the top half. After an initial spectacular growth my boobs seems to have stayed the same size since week 10.

lauraloo I dont think that work can ask you what your intentions are until 3 months before you are due to return to work (at least that is what happens here).....however, I have spoken to my manager and told him that I only want to work part time when I come back and it is all being sorted out for me. I found it helped to have everything out in the open and it was one thing less for me (and for work) to worry about. But dont let anyone force you into making a decision before you are ready.

My sympathy to everyone with heartburn...it truly is awful !...i got a big bottle of gaviscon on prescription so dont spend your pennies

LittleSarah · 19/02/2009 09:26

laura - Sorry to hear you are have difficulties at work, I think Myneaux is right in saying you have loads of time to make a definite decision about all that. I am still waiting to get confirmation about my maternity pay and who is responsible for paying it. I'm sure it is the agency and my boss at work is waiting for them to get back to her. Worst comes to worst I'd be happy to get maternity allowance as it would be about the same but if I'm entitled to maternity pay then I must get that... argh.

June - I don't if you can tick nursing bras off your list yet. I think the idea is to get fitted 2/3 weeks before your due date to get the most accurate idea of your 'final' size. I hope mine don't grow much more but I know they very well could!

I'm in uni early this morning to try and do a little work before class, then I have a meeting with my dissertation supervisor who is dreadful. I don't know why but it seems like this year he just can't be bothered and I certainly don't feel supported. The only reason I am seeing him is to get his okay on my methodology ideas..

Work is piling up again at uni, I feel much more on top of it than I did last term but I really can't wait to break the back of it. At the moment it is all in its beginning stages and so it looks pretty daunting!

chocciedooby · 19/02/2009 09:57

Littlesarah - it will be all worth it in the end

Lauraloo - You sound really poorly I don't know about the pins and needles in the arms and legs but if you are worried maybe it would be worth a trip to your GP if you can manage it between being sick. I suffered from Carpel Tunnel syndrome with both other pregnancies but this time I seem to be ok (so far). That only really affects the hands though.
You could have some sort of flu bug as there are a lot of those going around here and everyone seems to be full of cold, then the sick comes. I have however had head cold for a week now and not been sick. Only upset tummy. Just go get checked out to be on the safe side and let us know how you are.

You employers were unfair asking you your plans after maternity leave so early. When I was working and pg I didn't have a clue how I was going to feel until after the baby was born. I told my boss that I had every intention of going back but would keep him posted as soon as my feelings may change. As soon as I had my baby I never wanted to leave him. Thats just the way I felt and I was lucky enough that dh could support me. I don't know what the law is in the UK about all of this but don't let them push you into a corner and everything can change once you have the baby anyway.

chocciedooby · 19/02/2009 10:01

Daisy5 hope you feel better soon.

June I bought a swimsuit yesterday from Mamas and Papas. I was under pressure to get one quickly as going away with dh to spa this weekend It was a little pricey for a plain black swimsuit but tbh it was the most flattering considering my bulging waistline! It is also very comfy, has adjustable straps and the sides are ruched to cope with the ever growing bump.

Hello everyone else.
May not be on for the next few days as parents are coming over this evening for the weekend Have lots to do!

Juicygirlpink · 19/02/2009 10:27

Morning all!!!!
Choccie- glad you have a lovely spa day planned that will be great fun! I am going to check out m&p tomorrow as I am heading 'up west' to meet a friend for lunch. I am still desperate for a swimsuit so am hoping they have what I am after. I bought baby a babygro from there after Christmas it was on 'sale' at 14.40! It had a cute hat attached but I do think their baby gear is overpriced- be warned ladies also huge! I bought the 0-3 mn & when I compare it to other brands it is HUGE!!!!!!

Lauraloo- sorry hear you are going through a rough patch Hun. Choccie is right you should go & get checked out by the gp. I think also in this case you could ring & get an emergency appt so you don't have to wait a week for an appointment! My surgery is very good if you are pg. And work - everyone is right don't let your employers back you into a corner I am convinced it's far too early for them to be asking you what your plans are AFTER baby. We as women are superwomen & try & carry on even when we are sick, in the end it doesn't help sounds like you need to rest & get better and don't beat yourself up if your dr appt is in work time!

ermintrude13 · 19/02/2009 10:33

lauraloo What a shame that so many employers are rubbish in the way they treat their pregnant workers - surely they should have protocols in place which obey the law and don't bully women into making decisions before they're ready. For anyone in that situation - where there's no sympathetic, competent person to discuss it with you like grown ups - I hope you can hold your ground and say that you are considering your situation and will make a decision in due course. It's so hard when you're not sure yourself and feeling pressurised, though. Boo to silly bosses.

I was running a small arts organisation when pg with both DC and the Board gave me 6 months leave on full pay, so changing my mind after baby was born would have made life hell for many people who had treated me very well. Fortunately, as well as needing to work, I also loved my job and although the first few weeks of babies going to nursery was a wrench it was the best thing for me and the family, and I managed to enjoy work and babies to the full. It really helps if your job is stimulating and your colleagues/bosses are nice to be around!

I'd get to the doc's or midwife about the dizziness and pins and needles, just to be safe.

June and Littlesarah I just dug out my old nursing bras and found they go from 36DD (just after the birth) down several cup sizes to 34C - my usual size - which was when the babes were 18 months ish. So it is something to buy as you go along and could easily change between now and the birth - and between the birth and the end of b/feeding!

choccie that swimsuit sounds gorgeous. Have a lovely weekend.

Juicygirlpink · 19/02/2009 10:42

Littles- hope your meeting goes ok this am! Well done you for arriving early to get more done

In other news had my 6 month check up at my lovely dr yest. Heard baby's heartbeat & measured my tummy a whole 25cm now! Then completely tired myself out at aqua...... Oh then the huge choc éclair previously mentioned

Juicygirlpink · 19/02/2009 10:48

Erm- good advice on the old bra situation this whole boob thing is starting to get my goat! I had so much trouble getting maternity bras can't even think about nursing ones just hoping that someone like the nct make them up to an l cup for me!

Tee2072 · 19/02/2009 11:12

Morning all. BIG Whinge coming up...

So I have a lot of friends all over the world, and we keep up on Facebook. So I put in my status 'Totally Exhausted. How many more weeks?' And got one sympathetic response. All the rest were 'just wait until the baby is born' 'ROFLMAO you'll never sleep again' and other useful stuff.

I am not stupid, I know I will be tired when I have the baby. But I won't have to get to work, I won't have to dress well, I won't have to wear make up. And I won't have to deal with my stupid boss who acts like a 5 year old when he doesn't get his own way. All I wanted was a little sympathy and instead feel like my so called friends have shit all over me.

There, I feel better now.

bigcar · 19/02/2009 11:18

Morning all

lauraloo, i'd be tempted to go get checked out today, don't worry about bugging them, that's what they are there for.

Boobs are like share values, they can go down as well as up You'll be lucky to get away with 1 set of nursing bras!

Has anyone ordered nursing bras from this lot? They go up quite large juicygirlpink if that's any use. I'm finding it impossible to get anything in a proper shop.

Was someone asking asking about babygros with foldover scratchmits built into the sleeves a while back? My memory is soooo rubbish! If anyone is interested, the next ones have them.

Juicygirlpink · 19/02/2009 12:28

Tee- not what you needed!
Sure I have told you this story before if not here goes, when I used to be on f/b just before my wedding I had these stupid MSG from a so called 'friend' asking if her MUM!!!! Could bring her new B/F to our wedding!!! WTF And another one, so being a bit self aware of the old 16+ body I sent a MSG on f-b to my girlfriends asking please not to post any pictures of my wedding as I wanted to choose the best ones as the bride (bloody understandable if u ask me). A 'friend' replied 'next you will be wanting us to sign a confidentiality clause or something!' how rude is that? FYI this one was the fiancée of our usher & they didn't manage to give a penny to the charity we were supporting (all our wedding gifts were donations to a charity) or buy us a wedding card! The next day at brunch that my lovely parents had at their house the same 'friend' said 'sorry we didn't get you a card we thought it would be nice to get one AFTER the event'! Of course nothing ever arrived!

Anyway after my blabbing the point is I think the only people who I can trust for an honest answer & sympathy when needed is my mn pals! for the record I am no longer on f-b!!! X

June2009 · 19/02/2009 14:02

Good point about the bra sizes littlesarah, I guess it's back on the list!

Tee argh, some people are just not considerate are they! I can sort of understand when people say "it'll all be worth it in the end" (though it is irritating!!)
I think they just don't know what to say but don't want to not say anything, which is better than being ignored I suppose.

But the people who go "wait until the baby's here, then you'll be REALLY tired" or "you haven't seen anything yet" get right on my nerves. It is just patronising.
They might as well not say anything, what is the motivation behing saying this? Making us feel worse? Like we should be able to cope?? It makes me so angry.
My auntie in law made a comment like that a while ago that made me . The way she talks you'd think she worked right until the minute she gave birth, took a 15 minutes break and went straight back to work or something.

I'm definitely making a mental note not to ever say anything like that to anyone.

Tee2072 · 19/02/2009 15:09

Yup, so rude really. And these are actually people I know in real life, telling me these things! Gee, thanks!

In the good news file, met with my boss about my leave and he's agreed to: -

Me taking every Friday from now until my leave as holiday, so I can work 4 days and still get my full pay.

Me take last two weeks of May as holiday.

Start my maternity leave 1st June!

Home stretch now girls!!!

lauraloo09 · 19/02/2009 15:22

tee thats good about your boss letting you have every friday off until your leave starts!

Roll on 6th may when I finish up (got to use 4 weeks holiday before finish on mat leave) got an appointment with gp at 4 about the pains i'm having so hopefully he can help me left arm feels so weak and painful
