Sweetbroody, that sounds lovely a real family occasion and such a lovely sentiment, hope you get to enjoy your day Thanks for the link!

Tee2072 · 16/02/2009 17:45

I am wondering that as well laura. DH spends lots of time with his hand on my belly with me going 'that one?' 'nope' 'that one?' 'nope!'

The feel so strong to us but not quite strong enough, I guess!

SweetBROODY · 16/02/2009 17:53

DH has felt this one once or twice.. the really big kicks.. sometimes he feels things that i dont which i think is strange.. I am 25+3 though.. so dont know... I personally think he hasnt yet felt it.. but we'll see as I get bigger..

SweetBROODY · 16/02/2009 17:54

Hey Laura how you doing!

Bigcar i just hope it goes smoothly - hopefully the gifts baby gets will be useful!

TBH thers so much family politics.. I'm a bit nervous about the whole thing!

Kitteh · 16/02/2009 19:24

Choccy.. i didnt know you could do that.. its a quinny buzz.. ill go and ask in mothercare.. thanks so much.. its all so confusing.. lol..

bigcar.. went fine thank god.. had a few collapsed veins when she tried but got ther in the end, and made it to the funeral.. thank god.. not lookin forward to 28 week bloods.. my body just doesnt want to give it up.. lol..

Juicygirlpink · 16/02/2009 21:20

Hey all.

Sorry I have been quiet a very sad day for me- me, dh & my parents moved my darling grandparents into a nursing home home . Mum & I were sitting in the lounge with g'ma all weeping & baby starting kicking almost to say 'everything's gonna be ok'. Anyway it went as well as it could I guess.

June- babygro washing- I would go with what you think is best, yes baby's skin can be more sensitive but you & dh are obviously fine with your regular stuff. I however on the other hand all ready use non bio because my skin is so bad, dh can use anything- just use your mothering instinct I say- if we do it all by the book it would be a boring world
We are booked for the baby show on the sunday & would love to meet up & say hi if you are there on that day? p.s isn't it so exciting buying baby's stuff! Re- 3d scan, I have been recommended by another mn'er to go to cocoon in harley street, I am 24 weeks today so I think that I am going to call & book in, she did suggest waiting until about 28 weeks for the best piccies but not sure if I can wait that long!

Laura- How comes you were sick? thats horrid? I hope you managed to get some romantic time with dp?

daisy- loving it that you got your heels on for V day! - dh cooked me a 3 course (!) supper is was so yummy with AMAZING fishcakes for a starter mmmm, we have a party to go to on saturday I am going to try & wear my heels, I am having my hair & nails done to feel good about myself & I have a new top from topshop too

erm- you always make me newspaper wtf??!!

littlesarah- your mil sounds like a character!!!!

Juicygirlpink · 16/02/2009 21:33

round 2!

choccie- I to am 'degree less' & dh has 2! I worked hard & got rewarded for it but was none more pleased than the day when dh said 'you don't have to work anymore if you don't want to' hence the reason why I have been a house g/friend, then house fiancee, then house wife now house mummy!!!

hey sweet- I haven;t said hi as I am a new comer to this fab thread!

june- not much baby dancing goes on in this house, more sleeping!!!

needmore- big congrats!!! going to try & look at your pic's! can I ask how many weeks are you now? don't let 'friends' spoil your high, you have a beautiful baby son that you are going to meet really soon - ANY baby is a miracle!, our best friends have 2 gorg boys, we all went for lunch yesterday it was so lovely - we had great fun!

tee- sorry you are feeling bad relax & eat choccie - it helps!

sweet- loving the sound of the ceremony, it;s always nice to learn new things

June2009 · 16/02/2009 22:58

hey Juicy how was Tina Turner?
I'll check with dh if the sunday's all right with him.(probably afternoon rather than morning).
Aww, I really wish I didn't work either sometimes :D

Anyone else going to the babyshow?

littlesarah welcome to the club of crazy mils

We had a good laugh today when we went to the supermarket and I had a quick look for nipple cream (planning for breastfeeding), the lansinoh (spl?) cream's price tag read £1735.05 per 100g!!!
It was in fact £9 for 50/60g which I thought was still dear.

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 17/02/2009 04:14

Thanks Juicy. We have a few friends who can't have kids and we are also so grateful and pleased to have been lucky enough to conceive again and have a gorgeous son. I think it's the comments that say 'At least you can use DS's stuff'. Why say 'at least'? So weird....

I used non-bio when DS was small, but in May 2007 they came out with research that said that bio powder doesn't cause any more probs than non-bio so switched back to bio and haven't looked back. DS actually stopped having excema after I went back (not that the two are related, I'm sure). The non-bio varieties are good if there are skin probs in family / with baby, but if not, bio is fine. The pros with non-bio is that the stains are harder to remove (esp when they eat ANYTHING with tomato in it.. why do they never show that stain on the Vanish ads?)

Why, with only 3 hours sleep the last two nights, was I wide awake at 3am? INSOMNIA SUCKS!!

chocciedooby · 17/02/2009 09:18

Hi everyone.
Ineed I have 2 boys and they are great. In fact I wouldn't have it any other way. They are the best of friends and its nice to think that hopefully they will look out for each other when they are older and going out etc. I got all those ridiculous comments when expecting DS2 and now I am bracing myself for it again.

Not sure what we are having this time around but I know if its another DS I will be delighted (desperately wanted another baby) and everyone else will feel sorry I didn't have a girl. So frustrating!

Like JGP said, all babies are miracles. The fact that we have all conceived and managed to continue to carry them safe and well is a miracle. My neighbours can't have any more kids. They have 2 DD's and their youngest has been in hospital since New Years Day seriously ill.She is brain damaged and will never be the same again Thats when we all have to put these things into perspective.

chocciedooby · 17/02/2009 09:23

JGP so sorry you had a sad day yesterday. That must have been very hard. Still, I'm sure your parents have made the right decision and in the best interests of your grandparents well being.

June the Lasinoh cream really does seem to be the best. Not that I was the worlds best breastfeeder. In fact far from it as I only lasted 3 days . I did use that cream though and it is very thick and greasy which protects well. All of my pals also used it.

Hope I didn't put any of you on a downer after my last post. Sorry.

bunnymother · 17/02/2009 10:00

Morning ladies

This post moves so fast! Sorry that this is sooo long, but so much to respond to!

Bigcar - agree re that article on signing and how it really seemed to indicate that the socio economic group from which you come (rather than any signing you did) determines how well you communicate. However, it does sound like a good idea and nice to hear that so many people do it and find it useful. Imagine it really helps decipher those gurgles that actually mean ?I really fancy a biscuit around about now?.

Ermintrude - my bump bangs about constantly, plus I have had that tightening that you mentioned. Thanks for explaining it! Like you, mine is esp active late at night and first thing in the morning. Poor DH got kicked in the head three times the other night when he had his head on my lap! Agree that some people are oddly eager to tell you the most gruesome labour stories. How fun to see your bump move! Mine just kicks like a ninja and no one knows how violent she really is.

Daisy5 - we have no names decided yet. I have a v looong ?shortlist?, but DH not keen on my names ie Aurelia, Elara, Lavinia. Although he likes Amelie (I am aiming for Emilie instead), so we shall see... I can?t believe you don?t feel pregnant . I am having a dream run, but def feel bigger, slower and am starting to feel a bit uncomfortable. Which is my excuse to buy a back massager thing, which hopefully I can also put in the cot/bouncer (think Samantha from SATC w that machine she used when babysitting Brady!). Love that you got the foxy heels out, mine aren't staying on the shoe rack either!

Lauraloo - very nice outcome on the annual leave leading to maternity leave! Although sorry to hear you spent the weekend sick.

Doris - thanks for the tip on hypnobirthing CDs, I am going to get some! Am a bit nervous about labour (although that thread you sent, Tee is hilarious ? loved it!!) and think that those CDs, coupled w a birthplan (give me gas, air and epidural) and a doula should mean we are well prepared. Although I hear all plans go out the window anyway and what will be will be! Enjoy the car shopping ? v exciting, and I love the new car smell.

MrsMcJnr - good to hear that there was a useful family business meeting, although ideally there would also be more comfort for you. Have my fingers crossed it makes more money soon ? think all businesses are in the same boat right now. Thanks for the Kiddicare endorsement, too ? its settled it for me. Aaliyah is a lovely name ? lyrical.

Juicy - I sure did find some bargains on Blooming Marvellous, they have some adorable things! Am really looking forward to them arriving. Although shouldn?t buy too much yet as we need to move to a bigger flat soon (oh, the joys). V sorry to hear about your grandparents having to move to a nursing home. You must be feeling v sad and drained.

Questions - as my ?pram of the week? is Phil & Teds sport, I will just get whatever car seats fits that ? think its a Maxicosi. In case this helps, the John Lewis man said Maxicosi is ?better? than Britax as they go well beyond the safety standards required, whereas Britax don?t go much beyond at all.

llynnn - potty training while pregnant ? you deserve chocolate, and lots of it!

June2009 - the French recommendations re weight are so funny! A French friend told me that once you have had a baby in France, you get a dietician for a year afterwards, and that dieting is recommended asap following the baby. No pressure, then! I am going to the babyshow on Friday 27 Feb, so if you are going that day how about meeting up? I have a list of what I need and am plodding through. Am trying to only buy what I need (ie gorgeous clothes and accessories) and ditch the optionals (ie moses basket). My hospital bag will have to contain food for DH will be scarier than me in labour if he misses a meal!

LittleSarah - your MIL does sound quite special!

Sweet - hello! You sound v busy w decorating, hope you don?t get SPD and can relax a bit.

Ineed - congratulations on having a little boy!! How gorgeous that your DS will have a little brother. We also have friends who can?t have children, and its tearing them apart. Heart breaking and unfair.

Tee - hope you feel better soon!

Am thinking of buying a baby journal/book to record the first special moments for our little bump. Anyone else doing that? Mum told me I should as the memories fade and you can?t recall who did what when.

Better run and start the house hunting. God help me!

Juicygirlpink · 17/02/2009 10:02

June- we are planning to go to the baby show first thing in the morning as we are going to drive (& hopefully find a parking space!) but I am sure we will still be there in the afternoon! So that would be great to say hi
We aren't going to see tina now as I doubled booked with the trip to Paris that I am doing for dh V day gift (baby brain??!!) so now we are trying to sell the tina tickets they cost £225 & they haven't arrived yet so I can't put them on e-bay until they do!

Ineedmore- sorry you are having real problems sleeping, is it anxiety related or just baby stuff? I don't know your feelings on taking things when you are pg? I had severely itchy skin from about weeks 12-20 (had me in tears sometimes) went to my lovely dr who prescribed me anthistamine that makes you sleep as an added bonus!!! But I completely understand if you don't want to take medicine when your pg.

Choccie- thanks for your kind words, & I am with you that sometimes we need to get things into perspective, I really feel for your neighbours & their poorley little girl.
I have been thinking about poor jade too her illness is truely awful.

Not meaning to get us all down either I just find since I have become pg I think more about things & other people.

Juicygirlpink · 17/02/2009 10:12

Bunny- think our posts crossed
Thanks for your message - really glad you managed to get some bargains from blooming m! There stuff wears & washes really well which is a plus! I am feeling pretty drained but my dh is trying to keep my spirits up - we are having our kitchen ripped out & a spanking new one put in as of march 2 & he keeps asking me questions on color schemes etc!

My other bits of info- anyone craving a dippy egg? Well I was really craving egg & marmite soldiers - m&s free range organic eggs are samenella (don't know how to spell) free- made my day this am!

I have a question- does anyone know where I can buy a maternity swimsuit with cup size? I won't fit regular sizes as my boobs will pop out as my chest is now about a 34 j I think???!! I need an 18 in the body help me!!!

bigcar · 17/02/2009 10:22

Morning all

sweetbroody, hopefully they'll all behave themselves for such a special occasion!

kitteh, glad you made it through yesterday, hopefully 28 weeks will be the last time they need blood from you and your viens will get a rest!

juicygirlpink, sorry to hear about your grandparents, must have been a tough day all round.

Ineed, i'm with you on the tomato stains! I have to use non bio as we all have sensitive skin and get very itchy and red with all the bio powders they really don't shift the stains that well at all, and you get a lot of stains with dcs Soap, shower gel, bubble bath is a whole other area of fun!

Ds told my mil a couple of weeks ago that he wanted this lo to be a boy, think he's feeling a little outnumbered having 3 sisters. Dh keeps telling him he'll be very popular when he's older having a house full of girls, he doesn't get it at all.......yet The girls don't seem to be bothered either way, dd1 reckons they've got the whole girl domination thing sorted now anyway

daisy5 · 17/02/2009 10:52

bunnymother - Regarding the baby journal, I bought a Peter Rabbit baby book from Mothercare. It is quite good. Has a bit of variety. I have since noticed some others I like a bit more but will probably get Thumper the same book, so they feel they are being treated the same.

What I did do, that a friend recommended, that worked really really well, is to buy a normal calendar that I kept in the kitchen with a pen attached and every time a 'first' happened (smile, cough, eye contact, hug, kiss, fell over, sick, teeth etc) or she said a word, I would scrawl a note of it on the correct day. Then later, when I had a moment, and had printed off the photos to go with, I would update the baby book. Otherwise, I would have missed a lot of information as you forget so quickly and always want to write up the book 'nicely' when you have a calm moment. Also, there are a lot of things noted on my calendar that there aren't entries for in the book - especially funny things she did, or silly moments that happened, that I am so glad I have a record off, as sadly, it is surprising how quickly you forget.

I like the names on your long shortlist.

daisy5 · 17/02/2009 10:53

Oh, by the way, I am still trying to complete the baby book and dd is now 3. I have mislaid a photo or two and cannot find the book where I wrote down all the christening presents etc. Hoping it will all be done before Thumper comes along.

ermintrude13 · 17/02/2009 10:55

My goodness, you've been chatting! I'm supposed to be working so don't have time to catch up with everyone, but just quickly from what I've read:

If you use non-bio detergents (which I do for eco rather than skin-related reasons) there are v good stain sticks which you can put on greasy spots etc before washing which were effective on DCs grubby baby clothes etc.

Nipple cream - I never used any and would be loath to put some unguent on that LO has to suck unless my nips were actually cracked. After feeds I always rubbed milk over the nipple and found this kept them moisturised and never had any dryness/cracking.

Ineed what a lovely scan pic, and it will be super for your DS to have a little bro.

I'm nearly 23 wks and DH and DC can feel kicks v clearly now - I'm sure that 3rd time round makes everything a bit more ahem slack. They've all seen it kick too, tho DS gets impatient so jumps on the bed and says - look! the baby's wobbling! Cheeky monkey.

Sunny and bright here, hope those of you feeling under the weather improve and all have good days.

lauraloo09 · 17/02/2009 11:07

morning all taking another day in my bed, migraine still hasn't gone since the weekend

JGP Sorry to hear about your grandparents, it will take time for them to setlle but once they i'm sure they will be fine.

Tee I hope your feeling better today x

June I wish there was a babyshow in glasgow somewhere that I could go to, even tho I think DH would go mad

choccie sorry to hear about your neighbours child, thoughts and prayers are with the family x

On the subjet on the miracle of having a baby...could people spare a though for my poor aunt and uncle next month. My aunt and I were told at the same time that we couldn't have kids (me getting check out at such a young age was due to the problems my aunt has) She is due to go through IVF next month and I pray that a bean will stick for her. They have been trying for 10 years it's so unfair on them...
I may be clutching at straws but the psykick (excuse spelling) who said I was having a girl even before I knew I was pregnant said that the ne going through IVF in March will have twins so here's hoping.

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 17/02/2009 11:24

Your poor aunt and uncle lauraloo - I hope that psychic is right. Hope you fell better soon...

OP posts:
daisy5 · 17/02/2009 11:29

juicygirlpink - I'm so sorry to hear of your grandparents going into a home. I don't know if it helps any, but we have had some very positive experiences with elderly homes. My grandmother insisted she didn't want to go into one, but when both my parents and my aunt and uncle were away for a month, they suggested she go and stay for just the month in one. She had so much fun, she found it lonely when she went back to the flat and thought maybe it would be a good idea to move permanently. She made two very good friends and they were inseparable. I know it is not like that for everyone, and at least the choice was hers in the end, but I do wish them all the best and hope the home chosen works out for them.

lauraloo - Shall think of your aunt this month and wish her all the best. A friend of mine took 10 years to conceive two children, the second on the third round of IVF at age 40 so here's hoping your auntie the same fertility fairy dust.

mrsmcjnr - Aaliyah has a lovely ring to it. What a beautiful name. Our boy is getting a very Scottish name - Fraser Alastair.

I shall be offline till next week as stepson (well, he would be if we got around to getting married) arrives soon and we are flat out doing 'stuff' for the rest of the week.

I hope you all have a great time at the Babyshow. Good luck finding out all about the baby gear - there seems to be so many new things on the market every year - it is hard to keep up!

ermintrude13 · 17/02/2009 12:04

daisy and juicy I so wish my grandma would give a home a try. My mum loooks after my disabled father and has to visit Nan every day and take her food and shopping, and she's so miserable on her own but won't move to a home, or live with my parents. She hasn't left the flat for 3 years and is going a bit doolally - never washes herself of her clothes, or flushes the loo, because she's obsessed with being on a water meter! It's a real worry for my mum and we think that a home, with company and stimulation, would suit her better but she won't countenance it and just says she wakes up every morning and hopes it'll be her last .

Sad to be thinking so much about the end of life when I'd rather be contemplating this new life in my tum, but my dad turns 70 this weekend and so I guess I'm getting to That age where mortality starts to become a bit more real.

Sorry, sounds a bit depressing and don't want to spoil the mood of cheery optimism!

lauraloo hope you're feeling better soon, and tee too!

bunnymother later in preg, those tightenings will be more frequent and are known as Braxton Hicks - they're usually not painful so not easy to confuse with actual labour contractions, but they can be really strong and make you stop in the street and go OOooooh! in surprise. Best be forewarned..

Tee2072 · 17/02/2009 12:13

ermintrude keep saying 'oooafff' already, from baby kicks! You mean there is even more to look forward to?

I wish I could say I was feeling better, but I'd be lying. Have a diabetes antenatal appointment today and might ask them to do my blood pressure, as my head has been achy for days.

Hope everyone else is having a nice day full of baby kicks and nursery shopping!!

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 17/02/2009 12:48

Wait til you get those big old kicks / punches right in your fanjo when in the third trimester. That used to make me 'ooooo' very loudly and people think you're going into labour! You can't tell them the real reason...

Sorry to hear about your grandparents juicy. Have they managed to keep them together? I hope so.

Hope everyone's feeling better soon x

juicy I remember how sad it was when my gran went to a home She is used to it now and overall it is much better that she is looked after properly every day.

I forgot your events clashed, when are you going to Paris? Very romantic :D

Laura Did you speak to your GP about your migraine? I don't know how I would cope if I had one now, they get so bad I end up feeling like drilling a hole in my head to let the pressure out or something! I really feel for you.

daisy I love the name you picked :D If we were having a boy Alistair would have been on my shortlist too.

mrsmcjnr Aaliyah is so beautiful :D

So far we have a short list of names we try on out loud. Dh is very keen to agree on a name now so we don't have to think about it anymore whereas I'm still looking at loads of other names.

It's quite scary that we haven't agreed for sure on a name yet considering I've been looking since before we were ttc...and there's only 3 months and a bit to go!

Good luck with your appointment Tee!

Hi everyone else! Better get back to work now...
