Tee2072 · 13/02/2009 21:45

doris Glad DD is better.

What do we all think about the 12 year old father and 15 year old mother? The baby was born last week. I, personally, am worried for the baby and hope the grandparents are stepping up!

lauraloo09 · 13/02/2009 22:08

tee i found the story about the 12 year old father very shocking and actually very frightening that a boy so young can be a dad...I mean he looks like he is six, looks much younger than my nephew who's 7!! I feel so sorry for the baby as it will always be tagged with the fact of having such a young dad, I pray someone (ie an adult) will take on the responsibiltiy of bringing this child up and I pray that it is not going to be neglected...please don't see this as me saying any young couple having a baby will neglect it

tee had a read at that link you posted was actually very funny

LittleSarah · 14/02/2009 08:31

Doris - I am definitely going to get some hypnobirthing CDs. Managed last time without but I think it could work for me as I definitely was quite in my own head and breathing, etc.

ermintrude - Thanks for the tip, I will definitely look into it. I have to do three features for my final project this term and I'd really love to get them a couple published, even on low/no pay!

Tee and Laura - That story is very shocking, but I find it more sad than anything. (Think the boy is actually 13 though, not that it makes much difference!) The child will have a difficult upbringing I guess, I think its parents have both struggled looking into their history and their parents...

ermintrude13 · 14/02/2009 11:06

Morning all

Doris - my v nervous friend having her 1st DC at 40 used hypnobirthing cds. In the end the baby was breech and she had to have a caesarean but she said it was useful even for that, in terms of keeping calm and positive. She's never been very relaxed about her body - always dieted too much and was very tiny - but is now happily breastfeedng in spite of being nervous about that too, so it is possible to overcome this sort of anxiety.

I was never that nervous about my labours but still found physical and mental preparation really useful - especially making sure your leg muscles are strong so you have the option of squatting, kneeling etc. without getting too tired. NCT classes and lots of reading up on the process of labour is also handy. But NOT listening to other women's My Birthing Hell stories which some people seem a bit too keen to tell you for reasons I can't quite fathom

I saw the bump move when the baby kicked this morning. Hours of fun to be had.

Hope you all have good days, and got dozens of valentines from secret admirers!

MrsMcJnr · 14/02/2009 12:11

Hey ladies this will be a me, me, me and then I'll catch up later. I hope everyone is keeping well [amile]

Had a good AN appointment the other night . The baby is fine for dates - MY DATES - so the Dr has agreed to change my due date back from 30/5 to 4/6 (I'll change the list later) - that makes me a lot happier as they can be so pedantic about inductions and won't listen to you if you try to explain that their date was ahead of theirs at that stage (been there, done that). She weighs and measures exactly the same as DS did at this stage so that bodes well. Just a bit bigger than average.

Thanks for all your good wishes about my DH/the family business situation. No real resolution but my father is most certainly happier now that his partner has seen in black and white what the real financial situation is. Lets hope some business comes their way soon.

More later

Juicygirlpink · 14/02/2009 16:59

daisy5 · 15/02/2009 15:17

mrsmcjnr it sounds like it was a constructive meeting. I hope they find creative ways to move forward in this current climate. It is a bit unnerving at times. Hope you are managing to relax a little through all this. Interesting that he has agreed to change your dates. I ovulate really early so actually lied about my 'last period date' to ensure they dates would correspond to mine. I was certain of the conception date too, and really didn't want the due date to be a week out, as you say, I went 6 days over last time (funny, I thought it was 5 days over but was just finishing off dd's Baby Book and it was actually 40+6), so that would be way too close to being induced for my peace of mind. In fact they reckon that I am due 4/6 and I think I am due 6/6, so very close to you.

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 15/02/2009 16:59

Hello all...

Glad that the worries have eased off a little, MrsMcJnr. It's so horrible when everything's up in the air.

Daisy - don't blame you for adjusting your LMP dates to make sure they're accurate with what you know yourself. If you can avoid being induced, all the better!

Indigestion, which I have avoided the worst of so far, has hit me like a brick wall. It woke me up, it was so bad, this morning. I'm downing Gaviscon, but it's not really relieving it. My poor FIL who's go stomach cancer, has it so bad. I feel awful for complaining as, obviously, mine is nothing like his. I have little private grumbles to myself and DH though!

Had a lovely Valentines Day evening yesterday. We made homemade pizzas and DH bought me a huge Toblerone and some Haagen Dazs Pralines and Cream ice-cream (my favourite) as a treat! Delicious! I also had a sneaky glass of pink bubbles which was also delicious! We weren't supposed to buying presents - but he had half so I guess it doesn't count...

Have felt really physically drained and emotional the last two days. This has coincided with DS being quite naughty and having lots of tantrums (aren't the terrible twos joyful?). Typical that the two are coming together! At least DH is off for a week on half term so can share the burden.

Got my 3D scan tomorrow so we definitely find out the sex. Can't wait!!

Hope you are all well

ladies, has anyone been looking at carseats yet?

although i haven't made up my mind about pram/pushchair yet, i thought i could put that to one side for a while and actually choose something like a car seat. but now im confused!

i don't really want one that i can carry around with me, just want to use it while baby is in the car. and we don't have the isofix thingys in our car so that kind of discards half the seats around. i saw the britax first class goes from birth to 4 years, does anyone know if it's any good?

also, am i being naive about not wanting to carry the seat around with me, ie i would imagine it would be easier not to wake baby and just take the whole seat out. but to be honest i dont want him sitting in it for too long at a time.

decisions decisions!!

bigcar · 15/02/2009 19:03

Hello all

questions, if you subscribe to which magazine or know someone who does, they do a car seat safety review every year. It's very important that the car seat fits your make of car properly, britax and maxi cosi both have fitfinders on their own websites. The best thing to do is to go to a large dealers like mothercare and get them to put the seat in your car and show you how it's installed properly and check for things like buckle crunch. Then go find the seat cheaper elsewhere

Tbh I only used my carry car seat as a travel system a handful of times as I do prefer to have lo laying flat whenever possible. I found it most useful when food shopping (most large supermarkets do trolleys that you can strap a car seat to) as I usually go on my own and cannot push a buggy and a trolley and I never really liked the baby seats on the trolleys, they always look really hard and dirty for a newborn. It also depends on what you lo is like, mine used to wake up anyway when I took the car seat out of the car

ineed, will be waiting for your news tomorrow, hope you enjoy getting another peek at your lo

It's half term week for us now, no running around like a demented thing first thing in the morning i've had to promise to take dd2 shopping tomorrow, hsm3 is released and she is desperate to get a copy, she thinks Zac Efron is soooo cool We've already had a weekend of watching the first 2 films [big sigh!]

Hope everyone has managed a relaxing weekend

llynnnn · 15/02/2009 19:19

hi all

Ineed - i can definitely sympathise with the joys of terrible 2's!! fun isnt it! dd has perfected the art of selective deafness!! we are also trying to potty train her at the mo and, although she is doing really well, its very frustrating at times (my patience level is REALLY low at the mo!!) sorry to hear about your indigestion, Gaviscon is yuck!

questions - we have a travel system which we can put the car seat on, tbh with dd we didnt use it very often, just when she fell asleep in the car and we were popping into the shops etc quickly, i also preferred to have her lying flat in the pram if poss. i couldnt carry her in the car seat for very long at all, they are really heavy and awkward, even with a tiny baby!

mrsmcjnr - pleased to hear you had a good app and managed to get your dates changed. that will be brilliant in the summer if you manage to avoid induction because of this

Ermintrude - its fab seeing your belly move when the baby kicks! I could watch it for ages!!

must go help dh put dd to bed now!
hope everyone is well

Tee2072 · 15/02/2009 20:10

Car seats are my biggest bugaboo, as I don't have a car. The baby will mostly be on buses or in taxis. Law says they don't need one for either of those things, but of course will need one when we go to visit the Inlaws, who do have a car!

I am going to a locally owned buggy place next weekend and will see if they can recommend anything. I can't be the only new mother in the world who doesn't own a car!

Kitteh · 15/02/2009 20:22

Hey everyone..

I need to get the car seat which fits into a quinny buzz, cos my friend just gave me the frame to one.. think its a maxxi cosi one or something.. it is 115 quid like.. do you guys think its worth it? Its just i was going to leave the pram at my mams for her to have in case she ever needed to look after the wee one..
Got my GTT test tomorrow, but.... i have a funeral to go to at 12, just praying it all gets done in time and that they dont mess my veins up like last time.. lol..
Anyone else having to have GTT tests?

lauraloo09 · 15/02/2009 20:34

evening all

I hope all is well...

On the subject of car seats I was given the Silver cross ventrua seat which clips onto the pram frame I have ordered. I am worried about how comfortable my baby will be in it so I am now looking at a combination fixed car seat from mothercare just wondering what you guys think of this it would do from birth to 4 years and only costs £140 also need to see if it fits into a volkswagon polo

MrsMcJnr · 15/02/2009 21:47

Thanks for all your positive vibes for me

Bunnymother ? LOL at the phrase ?Pram of the week? that so describes how it is for me. I have told myself that I will make some progress on the buggy front this week so that I know what I want to order by the end of next week ? we?ll see I had a splurge in Zara the other day too; that is one shop that it is worth being in Spain for the summer outfits for little girls are to die for I?ve used Kiddicare a lot by the way and have always found them good value, fast and reliable I don?t think you can get the Boots babygros online, I bought them in-store but that was last year. On the subject of de-fuzzing ? I have to do it weekly at least before DS?s swimming lesson but it appears that I forgot to do one armpit this week, how embarrassing!

Choccie ? my sis had similar issues with her Pilko not so long ago. Hope your cold is a lot better now

Daisy ? if you do hold onto those pink bugaboo covers I might be tempted to buy them from you at some point! I think your friend?s plans for her babymoon sound lovely your photo assignment sounds really interesting! Think B2 will definitely be ?Aaliyah?; DH won?t entertain any other names. I have the opposite situation to you; I ovulate late around cd17/18 so I knew DS?s due date was too early too.

June ? those jeans sound too big to me. I actually take a size smaller than ?usual? in mat clothes which confirms to me that my problem area outwith pg is around my middle those feelings you are getting could be Braxton Hicks? Re the smoking, good idea to get DH to stop before the baby arrives

How are you feeling Tee? How was pram shopping?

Bigcar ? I?ve been very lucky on the stretch mark front so far (touch wood) got a couple of ones similar to Ermintrude?s with DS but I haven?t seen those for a while enjoy half term

Congrats on a little girl Mica

Littlesarah ? ugggh tights, hate the things at all times! Don?t like the sound of DH?s ex-step father with the smoking, how selfish 2:1 is a great degree I got a 2:2 and was pretty impressed as I had done absolutely nothing but party for 4 years another one who now feels that the degree might have been quite interesting if I?d bothered to find out

Ermintrude ? I already feel that way about having a 3rd (and a 4th) we?ve decided though that as we?ll be lucky enough to have one of each we won?t find out the sex of the next baby ? unless it?s twins!! DS felt a kick today, he thought that was funny but then found it even funnier to prod me in the belly button (which is still an innie at this stage!)

Flynn/Laura ? as Ineedmore says when you notify work that you are pg they are supposed to come and re-assess your work station because of the changes in your posture etc, I?d get one if I were you (and just ignore your colleagues)

Ineedmore ? hope you are feeling better. Glad you had a nice evening I didn?t get a card or anything from DH plus I have had to do the night wakings and early mornings both weekend days because he has had a hangover, not impressed, feel like a total mug all the best for the 3D scan tomorrow ? hope your baby isn?t as shy as ours! I like your description of your contractions mine felt different to that I?d say, more searing I think sorry about the indigestion, poor you

Hello Llynnnn hope the potty training gets easier! I?m not looking forward to potting training DS and weaning the new baby at the same time!

Doris ? glad to hear DD is on the mend I?m another one who found hypnobirthing fabulous, both for relaxation when pg and for during the birth, I really used the techniques even though I wasn?t sure that I would beforehand. I went to a free course at the hospital I had DS in, well worth the time

Juicy ? I didn?t apologise for the me me post just put you all on notice

Questions ? I had the option but never used the car seat outwith the car I also didn?t get an isofix base, just your stage 1 maxicosi

Kitteh ? I think the maxi cosi does fit the Quinny. If the buggy is just going to be a reserve at your Mums and she won?t need a car seat I wouldn?t bother getting one for her place if I were you. The stage 1 seats are pretty easy to move from car to car if need be. I turned down the GTT, no reason for me to have it I felt. Hope it all goes well tomorrow.

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 15/02/2009 22:06

Hi all,

For those interested I am still using our Britax First class for dd2 rear facing (it is rear facing to 13KG) and she is 18 months now. It is big but she does look realy comfy in it. However for those wanting to use it to 3/4yrs I'm not sure that it is as spacious as others on the market ( we have a maxi cosi Priori XP for dd1 which seems to have more room for forward facing ( bought this when dd2 came along!) Don't know if this helps just my observations/musings!! (however I still love the 1st class for babies!)

Tee just posted on you other thread

We've now got further on our great car hunt, and have decided that the new style Sedona is the way forward now just have to do the deal and bob your uncle etc ( If only things were really that simple!)

Night all hope you had a good weekend

Kitteh · 16/02/2009 00:10

Thanks MrsMc.. im tubby so i may as well hav the blood testy thing.. nothing like that has ever ran in my family mind.. hmm.

I really dont understand what im meant to be doing btw with this buggy n car seat.. Without the carseat there is no seat, if you get me.. I dont quit understand it though, i already have a m+p switch, which is going to be kept at mine.. i might have to ask in a shop or something, clearly first time mum to be here.. i have NO clue what im doing.. lol

lauraloo09 · 16/02/2009 08:43

morning all

ineed good luck with your scan today, please let us know how it goes x

well spending today in bed, not slept all night due to a migraine and sickness there was no way i could deal with those people in work today...

LittleSarah · 16/02/2009 08:59

carseats seem to be very confusing! I was given one last time, like tee I don't drive and didn't have a car so I only used it occasionally when travelling with with mum. This time dh is learning to drive, we have a wee secondhand Renault something or other now and dh's test is in a few weeks. (I hope to learn after this db is born). So, basically I now need to think about it more this time!

MrsMcJnr - I know what you mean about tights! I really like hold ups but they always seem to be so thin that they rip after one wear!

chocciedooby · 16/02/2009 09:21

Arrrh Mrsmc - you poor thing. You must be exhausted. We have weekends like that here where dh has the late nights out, hangovers the next day and I end up on 24/7 kiddy duty feeling like am mug. You must organise a few nights out yourself and make sure that dh is aware that it will be his turn to get up in the night, get up at breakfast etc. You will not be as late in as him maybe, but you will need that rest.

Kitteh sounds to me like you will need to buy the seat (not car seat) for the frame that you have?! I would go into a reputable nursery store if you are unsure and see what they advise. Explain exactly what you will need to use the pushchair for.If your mum is not going to be driving around with your dc but just needs to have something there to take out for walks etc then a seat would be better.

bigcar · 16/02/2009 09:53

Morning all

kitteh, i'd agree with choccie, sounds more like you'd be better off looking for a replacement seat unit than the car seat. Depends which model of the quinny you have, if it's the zapp then the seat unit is not useable from birth and won't be of any use for the first 6 months without the car seat anyway. In which case if you want a buggy for your mum to use then a cheap umbrella fold one that is suitable from birth would probably be a better option. If you decide to go for the maxi cosi cabrio car seat, check out kiddicare.com, they usually have the old colours on special.

I'm booked for a gtt in a couple of weeks time but i'm undecided whether to cancel it or not, i've had no symptoms of gd at all, i'm just on the heavy side so it's been automatically booked Kitteh hope your day goes smoothly and you make it to the funeral.

MrsMcJnr, the name is lovely, is it a spanish name? I'm still trying to get dh away from names connected with liverpool fc

lauraloo, hope you manage to catch up on some rest.

daisy5 · 16/02/2009 10:07

lots and lots of laughs over degree comment mrsmcjnr .....another one who now feels that the degree might have been quite interesting if I?d bothered to find out! I managed to get an E for Marketing in my first year at university, one of the subjects I majored in and have since had a career in!!!! Having been in the top percentile in secondary school, I was really impressed with my ability to do quite so badly. I did smarten my act up a little after that and managed to come out with two degrees in four years but the marks were never that flash - lots of C+ and B-. My only A was an error on behalf of the marker that I thought would be my only at university so kept very quiet about it.

It does occur to me sometimes, that it might have been more interesting if I had spent a little more time studying and less time drinking wine with friends or spending Friday afternoons at our local drinking establishment eying up potential boyfriends!!!

I have great respect for 2:2's and 2:1's.

June2009 · 16/02/2009 10:51

Has anyone else been having trouble getting to our thread? It loads up and then freezes the whole browser, maybe it's too big for my computer to handle. (writing this from another computer.)

Ineed Good luck with your scan today, how exciting! A lot of us seem to be having girls.

How many weeks are you?
We want to do a 3d scan too and I was advised to go at 28 weeks in case we want to check wether the cysts have gone away (not sure wether we want to find out either way to be honest.) At babybond prices go from £125 to £195 depending on what you want to go home with (dvd, cd, prints, keyring etc).

MrsMcJnr Lol at your armpit story :D
the jeans are fitting a little bit better but they are still falling and I have to stick my hands in there to pull my knickers up and then the jeans so yeah, I definitely think they are too big too.

Kitteh I'm having the glucose test in March. I really hope everything is fine as otherwise they will not take me on at the midwife centre.
I can't get my head round car seats either, or prams, or anything else for that matter.

I'm 24 weeks now and it's started to really sink in that I am pregnant - WITH A BABY.
She's kicking loads now and we've been using the doppler every now and then to listen to her heart.

I went on the scales this morning and - shock horror- put on almost 20 pounds, now week 24.
Apparently the recommendation in France is 1 kg per month of pregnancy.

I feel massive and considering never going on the scales again.

We had a lovely Valentine's weekend with my relatives. DH did all the cooking I wished we lived closer and saw them more often. (and not just cause they did ALL the cleaning for me as well!)

I can't beleive I let slip that we're having a girl!!!
I was doing so well dodging the trick questions, in the end I kind of blurted it out umprompted while explaining how we were going to choose godparents.

I have found that people want to know because they want to get you clothes and things in the right colour. My aunties looked truly delighted that we are having a girl :D

Got loads of pregnancy questions running through my mind this morning.

We bought some sleepsuits which I washed and now realised my washing powder is biological, is that really bad? I was planning on buying non-bio.
I think I am in my own little dream world and it's going to be such a shock when the baby is actually here.

Someone mentionned NCT classes on another thread, gonna have to look into that as well.

And I really need to put together a "necessary items" list for the baby and get on with buying things. The first 6 months went flying and June is really round the corner now.

Juicy and anyone else going to the babyshow, maybe we could hook up for a chat there? I haven't booked our tickets yet, when are you going?
I read that I you plan on having a babybond scan later on and book it at the show they give you 10% off.

lauraloo09 · 16/02/2009 11:10

june glad you had a good valentines weekend and that your DH did the cooking...wish mine would I've found that people want to know what I'm having so that they can start to buy outfits etc. with regards to washing powder I know my SIL uses non-biological on her children's clothes not sure if it makes a difference tho.

As for 3/4D scans I have mine in 3 weeks time when I will be 26 weeks. I am going to a Babybond clinic in Livingston my mum paid £195 for the scan for me and DH's 25th birthdays I really can't wait until my scan

I hope everyone else had a good weekend, spent most of mine being sick

LittleSarah · 16/02/2009 11:16

June - I have one of those lists, it's so much longer than I expected, and I also haven't bought anything!

Have decided I want to have a baby shower again though which is quite exciting, my mum will arrange it all so shouldn't be too much work for me! Poor dh is worried about his family looking bad, a couple in particular are not generous gift-givers, and of course mine are a bit OTT. Honestly I don't care and nobody else will even notice but he gets embarrassed!
