Good to have you back StrawberrySam, and to hear that all is well - despite complications. Placenta Praevia does explain a lot. Hope it moves up but if not just think: a caesarean will allow you to keep what American hospitals call your 'honeymoon freshness'

You're about a week behind me and I've been feeling movements for about a fortnight but this is my third so don't worry about it - with my first I was over 16 wks when I first felt something and even then it was subtle and actually could have been digestive rumbles! And my sis didn't feel her second til nearly 20 wks and all was well there. You've probably seen your bean jumping about more than anyone on this thread because of all those scans, so sounds like all is well.

daisy5 · 07/01/2009 16:20

ermintrude - yes, I agree, Capricorn has a habit of sounding dull. My aunt is also a Capricorn and she is a real effervescent (sp!!) party animal, so I think the ascending sign can really change the recipe (like adding saffron to a curry).

But yes, my charming Leo brother gets all the attention in my family.

My DD for my last pregnancy (mmc) was 30 December and I felt it strangely reassuring to be having a child from a star sign I knew and understood.

Secretly a little terrified by having a Gemini - I realised I have no friends who are Gemini's (spooky) and they sound a little more complex than my happy go lucky determined Aries 3 year old who everbody loves.

strawberrysam - sounds like a baby there for good (well 9 months at least) - glad to hear it and hope the complications don't wear you out completely.

loouuise - pleased to hear babyfather past the 'denial' phase. I hope your babyfathermamma is lovely.

Hiya

Sorry I haven't had time to catch up properly, the link for the £190 is here:

www.hotukdeals.com/item/295706/health-in-pregnancy-grant-from-apri/

Thanks Doris I will post in employment issues. Had a phone conv. with my accountant today where she was trying to tell me that the government does not pay the employer back anything for SMP but the busineslink website says otherwise so she's going to look into it as well. I'm determined to clear it up by next week so I know where I am standing.

Hey "stawberrysam" glad to hear that you can put a name on what's causing the bleeding! There's a chance you're no longer bleeing cause the placenta has moved up ;) Try not to worry too much, I can't feel it either, they say it happens around week20 when it's your first.

I caught a nasty cold, not sure what to take and the mw centre still hasn't called back so I don't have a mw at the moment. I'll probably call the doctor tomorrow if they don't contact me before then. (gp surgery conveniently closed on wednesdays...)

ermintrude13 · 07/01/2009 16:27

daisy, wow, you're really into the star signs aren't you! I'm a complete cynic about them, and have never found people being true to any astrological type but have a few friends who swear by that stuff. But my DH is a Gemini, and is lovely, honest and not at all tricky to deal with, so be reassured, it can happen. I also have a very angst-ridden, troubled Aries sister; wish she was happy go lucky, she could do with it!

Saffron in curry, mmm, I'm feeling a bit peckish. Must eat before around 5.30pm or it will all come up again at 10 - great excuse to eat tea with the kids and not have to wait til grown up time

flynn1984 · 07/01/2009 16:45

Hi Stawberrysam glad you are ok and that bleeds have stopped at least you now have a reason for the bleeds. Glad you saw your baby again at your scan!

Well I'm feeling a little guilty...I tried out my angelsounds doppler there to make sure it works and found the baby's heartbeat straight away wish I had now waited until DH got home he'll be upset he wasn't there when I heard it
If anyone is looking to buy a doppler I recommend the angelsounds one I ordered from a company called babymad through amazon on Monday afternoon and an attempt at delivery was made yesterday but I picked it up today so first class delivery service!!

June2009 · 07/01/2009 17:21

flynn1984, I'm all blocked up, head, ears, nose, I have a cough as well. If the GP says it's because of the baby does it mean we can't take anything for it?

After a bit more pressure from me the accountant has now said that I do qualify for SMP (a % of my average salary, better than nothing!) and the company will get 100% back, wehey! (But why did it have to be so hard....now I wonder what other tax breaks and stuff she doesn't know about...)

Anyone else going through 3 or 4 litres of water a day?

Tee2072 · 07/01/2009 17:31

june I am. I drink a lot anyway and now that I'm pregnant, its much worse! If I don't drink that much I get a headache from dehydration!

ermintrude13 · 07/01/2009 17:49

Yup, I'm drinking a lot of water, and when I wake up I find I need to drink a couple of glasses straight down - definitely a change.

also, june, glad your accountant has finally worked something out, but she doesn't sound very well-informed. SMP is pretty standard knowledge, it's not like you're trying to open an offshore tax avoidance account (are you? ). Well done for sticking to your guns!

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 07/01/2009 18:25

I'm a Gemini - so you know one person who's a Gemini Daisy!

Just done my maths - I really bloody hope this one comes early (DS was 3 weeks early) as otherwise I will be induced on my birthday (19th).... yikes!

OP posts:
daisy5 · 07/01/2009 21:21

ermintrude - I used to think it was all a load of rubbish but as the people I know well get older, they really seem to fit their star sign, so I have become a bit of a 'believer'!!

I wanted my DD to be a Pisces as was terrified of having a strong willed daughter. Since she was born, have relished the fact she is strong willed and as my DH is quite strong too, she can hold her own which actually works quite well, although he gets dismayed that he doesn't get enough cuddles from her, and when she is a teenager I am quite sure they will 'lock horns' a lot over stuff.

Ineedmorechocholate - hello there - my first Gemini friend . Actually just discovered our lovely babysitter next door is a Gemini too, so now I know 2 Geminis.

Thanks for the link june.

Can't wait to find out the sex of Thumper (lots of action downstairs) in two weeks. I think it's a girl, but we are having quite a battle over girls names with very different opinions. Life would be easier if it is a boy as we have already agreed on that. I actually get bored thinking of names - isn't that dreadful. Am very happy to find one we both love. The first name we agreed on (on Day 1) of the last pregnancy was the one we gave to our DD.

Kitteh · 07/01/2009 21:41

I totally believe in star signs.. i dont believe in daily horoscopes, but star signs are freakishly accurate.. Im a scorpio and i am EXACTLY a scorpio.. My dp is also my perfect match being a taurus.. hehe..

My baby will be a gemini, well, due to the EDD, and i actually really like geminis (thank god.. lol).. they're clever little creatures.. and very adaptable, like my dad who is a gemini and has severe dyslexia, but has done everything he can to adapt himself and studied hard and got a degree..

its all exciting stuff.. my best friend is an expert and does birth charts for people she knows..

Hello everyone and happy new year

Gosh everyone has been busy posting over christmas (Im afraid I am a secret poster during work only and its taken me hours to catch up!. Its so lovely to hear everyone is doing well and the bumps are growing (and commisserations to those still suffering with colds and morning sickness).

Sorry...this is going to be a bit of a 'me' post...but have loads of questions!

Is anyone else finding it difficult to find clothes to fit at the moment? A lot of my normal clothes dont fit anymore (partly because Ive gone up 2 cup sizes already and the bump popped out over christmas) but the maternity stuff seems to absolutely drown me (especially the tops)as Im quite short and they all seem to be very long in the body.....Is there any point in buying normal clothes but in a bigger size?...or am I going to find that its a false econmy and I will have grown out of them in a couple of week?.....any advice from you experts would be appreciated as its taking me twice as long to get dressed in the morning !!!

I am very jealous of everyone who has felt their little one move. I am pretty sure I havent felt anything at all yet (tho my digestive system is all over the place so there is always strange feelings down there !). Did anyone else not feel anything til after 20 weeks? am determined not to be worried but it would be nice to get a bit of reassurance.

20 week scan on monday where we hope to find out the gender. Although we arent bothered either way (its our first) we are going to have huge problems deciding a name if its a girl....we had 2 conversation about names before christmas and we both hated each others choices....its so difficult to pick girls names that are different without sounding like you are a wanna-be WAG !

ermintrude13 · 08/01/2009 10:03

Morning all!

Hello Myneaux. I'm 17 wks and finding trousers the worst problem because most maternity ones with the stretchy band just fall down. I have some with button elastic which aren't as comfy but at least you can adjust them securely. My sister just wore her usual jeans till after 20 wks, fixing the button under her bump by using hair bobbles, but she's v skinny so could get away with it. I'm still in normal tops and I wouldn't advise getting bigger sizes which will swamp you anyway - wear your stretchiest non-mat ones until it's impossible, and then you might find that the mat clothes which seem too long are suddenly right for you, because they're stretched over the bump.

Flynn and StrawberrySam, I've been producing vats of catarrh (tmi, sorry) since early pregnancy - sometimes when I retch that's all I bring up - and having post-nasal drip almost constantly. I think it's receding a bit now, but is a really irritating and nausea-inducing symptom so hope yours goes soon.

June2009 · 08/01/2009 10:20

Hi Myneaux! Hope you had a good xmas break.

I bought some jeans a size bigger and they were all right for about a month, now I need to undo the button in the evening. I found a pair of maternity jeans from Doroty Perkins which I live in. The elastic waist band is a "under the bump" style which fits like a normal pair of jeans right now (so kinda on my "bump" still.).
I bougt some over the bump jeans but they are a size bigger and I can't figure out wether they will just be too big or they're just falling because my bump is not big enough and will be fine once I'm bigger.

Have you tried dresses? I feel much more comfortable in them (got a long jumper/dress from George at Asda for a tenner the other day!!) I don't usually wear dresses and it's a bit cold at the moment to wear them outside to be honest but they are so comfy for inside and parties.

The shops in my area all seem to skip the maternity wear like it's a shameful disease. When I got clothes from Doroty Perkins it was in the far corner upstairs with changing rooms that were technically "closed", dirty with dust and fluff, and stuff you could trip over everywhere. Good prices though ;)

Found some really comfy stuff in mothercare too, bit more expensive.

Myneaux · 08/01/2009 11:10

Hi June2009....had a lovely break but not enjoying being back at work !

I can still fit into most of my jeans as long as I hitch them down a bit!....but I did manage to pick up a pair of maternity jeans in new look for £12 which sound a bit like yours. Not convinced they will see me through to the end (especially if I keep expanding at this rate!).

Its the work tops that are a problem....I have loads of shirts which no longer do up across the chest and not much else. I guess I will have to grin and bear wearing the same clothes on rotation for a couple of months til the maternity stuff looks better.

I suppose on the plus side I have saved loads of cash by not being able to buy clothes....and not being able to have much choice. I cant remember the last time I spent less than £80 on a pair of jeans...its a good job Diesel dont do maternity stuff

borriebear · 08/01/2009 12:02

Hello Myneaux, yup I am finding this in between stage a nightmare for work clothes, have now got two outfits I keep washing! I agree with June 2009 aswell, I have a couple of dresses that are very comfy that I am wearing with leggings and a long top underneath (sounds strange but looks ok!)

I keep wearing long non maternity tops over my jeans but I have had to swap to maternity jeans now aswell. They do fall down a bit, even with elastic button done up but I cant do my normal jeans up anymore!

chocciedooby · 08/01/2009 12:16

Hiya everyone.
I have been living in a pair of jeans that I bought a couple of weeks ago in Top Shop. I have never worn a pair of skinny jeans in my life (not skinny naturally) but they are great and come with an adjustable waistband so I can keep adjusting them as I grow!
I do think buying normal clothes a size or 2 up is false economy as I made this mistake with DC1.They just don't last very long and don't fit very comfortably either.
I am however finding that a lot of the items in fashion (top half only) are quite handy. The swing/open front jumpers, and tunic tops. I have also found H & M very good for maternity bits and bobs.
I have just purchased my 1st maternity bras in M & S. I have gone from a 36a to a 38C and th4e lady told me I will need to go back for another fitting as they are still growing!!!I like the new cup size but am shocked about the 38!
Nausea still going all day long with me.How about everyone else?
I felt the baby move last night!Well at least I am pretty sure it was the baby .
sorry for the me me me post.

herbaceous · 08/01/2009 12:30

Hello girls. At last I feel confident enough to join this thread! I've had four miscarriages in the past three years, most of them pretty late, so I was waiting until after 13 weeks (my latest MC) before 'coming out'.

However, now it would appear I am due on 28 June, and nearly 16 weeks pregnant!

My age beats even Ermintrude and Daisy - I'm 43. Been a pretty smooth ride so far, apart from mildly alarming DS test results, at 1:99. But we decided against any further testing, as he's staying, even if he's not perfect.

Have yet to see a midwife, as my GP has been useless, so am now fretting whether everything's still alright. Now convinced when a MW does use the doppler she won't be able to hear anything. I suppose it makes a change from worrying about the scans!

I recognise MrsMac from a thread of yore - hiya!

June2009 · 08/01/2009 12:49

herbaceous Congrats and welcome
Did you have any kind of blood test taken at all at the beginning around 8 to 12 w? The amount of care really varies depending on where you live. Some don't get a scan before 20w.
I saw a midwife who took some blood and urine around 9w. Since then I have seen no-one about the pregnancy.

The GP today told me about natural remedies to get rid of my cold, for anyone who is interested:

General remedy:

  • Inhalations with your head over a bowl of steaming hot water and a drop of eucalyptus oil in it. 10 minutes several times a day.
  • Drinks loads of water (no problem there!!!)
Blocked ears: drop of olive oil in your ear. Stuffed nose: use salt water, sniff it or put some drops in your nose. (I must have looked horrified as he gave me a prescription for a salt water spray in the end.) Sore throat: gargle with salt water.

For salt water he said generally 1tsp of salt per glass of water, don't put too much or it'll "burn" you.

He told me that, at 18w, paracetamol is safe to releive pain.

ermintrude13 · 08/01/2009 12:57

Welcome and congratulations herbaceous! I'm sure I've come across that name before, but not sure where. Yay, someone due in June who is older than me! Daisy and I can be your handmaidens [fmile]. Do join us oldies on the 40+ pregnant and new mums thread, which is v friendly and allows you to see the future as well as the (pregnant) present. There's a lady on that thread who was given a 1 in 2 Down's chance and her baby was perfectly healthy. Keep nagging to get that MW appointment though, they really should do your blood and wee tests and get you sorted out!

June I've heard the saltwater in the nose thing being effective - I think it basically breaks down the snot to make it easier to blow out - mmmm - wouldn't work if you'd already been blowing your nose v hard cos it would be really sore and sting - ouch! But the other stuff is all sensible symptom-relieving action.

choccie lol at your enormous bozooms. Mine went from 34C to 36D last time - the extra width is something to do with the fact we've 30% more blood in our veins at the moment and so get generally bigger even if not fatter. I'm getting fatter as well though

daisy5 · 08/01/2009 12:58

herb - so pleased to see you here. congratulations.

herbaceous · 08/01/2009 13:02

Thanks June. I'm having a nightmare with my nose - it gets blocked every night, and the only thing that had made it better - vicks sinex - I don't think I'm supposed to take.

As for blood tests, I had one for the combined test, with nuchal fold, but I don't think they tested that for anaemia, and all that.

It's partly my fault, as I didn't go to the GP until I was 11 weeks. I'd arranged scans myself through the EPU (who knew me from all the MCs), and didn't want to get booked in and then MC again, but he didnt even send the form to the hospital until three days ago. I haven't heard from either him or the hospital. Bit confusing.

herbaceous · 08/01/2009 13:04

Oh and thanks other ladies! We crossed posted.

Ermintrude - I've been about, MN-wise. Some time on the 40+ thread, and lots of time on the pregnancy after miscarriage thread.

I am nagging re MW appointment!
