Thanks Lenni - at least someone has their wits about them.

nataliejane - sorry to hear about your difficult time!

rrrayray I am also very slightly built and so when i hopped on the scales at my last modwife appointment my eyes nearly popped out - I have gained a whopping 13kg, no bloody wonder I feel like I am carrying a truck load of watermelons up front. Just the belly is big like a very large .... several large footballs and have not gained weigth anywhere else but still have two weeks to go - for all the others who have babies - seriously will I get significantly bigger - if so then I better go and scrub down the wheelbarrow as that is the only way I am going to get from A to B - at least I can see the funny side to this!

I have lost almost every brain cell and my emotions are going banannas - I was driving home from midwife yesterday and I was just going over in my head what the midwife had said - that baby is head down, 3/5 engaged and baby is spine to my tummy and she said that I should have everything ready for baby's arrival - anyway I just cried my eyes out as I think it has finally hit home that I am going to have a baby soon!

Such exciting times ahead for us. i hope you are all trying to rest up - I have been manic up until today and am going to try to start chilling out a bit from tomorrow.

Periwink · 17/12/2008 18:00

Mssparkle - you rest up, you deserve it!

rrrayray · 17/12/2008 18:04

misssparkle i think there are several virtual Wet Fish slaps for your OH from us lot on here! Rest up for sure, you Def deserve it!

periwink Glad to hear someone else piled on the pounds too Am hoping its not a BIG baby though Have a Scan on 30th Dec to Check placenta position, so i would guess they might give me a weight estimate there?!

LenniEd You are very organised with new thread!

LenniEd · 17/12/2008 18:10

Hmmm - I think there is a slight chance I might be in labour

Been having cramps and BH on and off all day, was up most of night with period pain and now having contractions about every 5-10mins ish (guessing haven't timed them) and they hurt. They are lasting a good few minutes each. Am sure it's a false alarm. Well, not sure really, but could well be a false alarm.

LenniEd · 17/12/2008 18:12

Going to finish my tesco online shop for tomorrow and then go and have a rest and see if that helps.

I've got a hair appointment, midwife appointment and a playdate booked for tomorrow. Most excitement I'll have had in one day for ages, would be bloomin typical if I go into labour now

OP posts:
Periwink · 17/12/2008 18:16

LenniEd - keep us posted!!!!

Rrrayray - yes praying this baby is not a big one..... takes a deep breath ...... They gave me an estimate weight when I went for my 36 weeks scan on 2 December and the consultatn said I should expect a 7.5 - 8 pound baby - but this was only an estimate - please please can I have a smaller baby!!!! let us know what they say.

LenniEd · 17/12/2008 18:19

Right, midwife booked for 8.30am tomorrow, playdate for 10am, tesco delivery booked for 12-2pm, haircut booked for 3pm. Babysitter booked for DD for me to have haircut. This can't be labour can it?? Would be very inconvenient.

These are hurting now. Going to lie down. Hopefully be back later.

moosemama · 17/12/2008 19:19

Ooooh LenniEd sounds promising, how exciting!

You do know that booking an appointment for anything (let alone booking up a full day) is a sure fire way to start things moving dont'cha?

TALLULAHBELLE · 17/12/2008 19:21

How exciting Lenni. Let us know if it's hairdressers or labour ward for you.

rrrayray · 17/12/2008 19:43

periwink 7.5- 8 isn't exactly HUGE is it! Plus... i was told that the weight of the baby usually is irrelevant, as often a 6lb baby could have a head diameter as big as a 9 lb baby. Gosh i hope thats not true, i hope i have a healthy, small headed 6 pounder!!!! Bad me!

am interested for midwife appointment tomorrow, as today my bump has shifted down at least an inch or so (it was already VERY Low) and i'm pretty sure she now has her back against my tummy, as belly button is as far out as its been, and bump has become even narrower and tidy that before. That, combined with the achy coxix bone thing in bottom makes me think she has dropped right in!!!

Very Exciting Lenni.... how funny that we both have hair and midwife appointments. How does irregular contractions until you have finished all your errands and appointments sound, and then established labour after that? at Least you'd have all your grocceries and lovely hair!

Keep us posted! Could be 4 babies before january is even here... and there is still exactly 2 weeks of december left !!!

LenniEd · 17/12/2008 19:56

Thanks ladies - well I am still here. Still feel very achey etc. and contractions are coming and going, when they come they hurt but not regular. Much like early labour with DD. First time it took 2 1/2 days to really get going so not getting too excited just yet. And may well be a false alarm. I'm 36+2 so still a bit off full term. If it is labour then hospital will want me in straight away and been there done that with labouring on ante-natal so going to pack my hospital bag, have a bath and get myself off to bed and see what the night/morning bring.

Will catch up with all the news tomorrow but Periwink DD was 7lbs 11oz and that was exactly average for a term baby at the time, smack on the 50th centile on those damned growth charts we'll all be moaning about soon enough!

EachPeachPearMum · 17/12/2008 20:30

Ooh Lenni- sounds like this could be it then...

May I ask what happened to Teuch... I thought she was due 2nd Jan?

Just cottoned on that 3 people already have theirs.....

stripeywoollenhat · 17/12/2008 20:55

hi all - thanks for the new thread, lennied - perhaps you are going to be the first to go on this one! wow! if it is a false alarm, though, i hope it stops soon, as it doesn't sound all that nice...

i had a midwife's appointment this morning and it seems that the small one is LOA and her head is getting low, though she hasn't engaged yet - although i am uncomfortable and i am getting very fed up with being pregnant, i'm glad she hasn't engaged as i am not remotely prepared to have this baby yet. 2009, i insist. midwife said she is big - though i think they can't really tell, can they? not from just a quick grope of the abdomen? apparently one of the reasons that i'm so uncomfortable is that i have a short torso so everything is all bunched up. it's rubbish being short.

whinge over (for now )

mssparkle - sorry to hear about unsympathetic oh...

Spink · 17/12/2008 20:59

Lenni you're sounding very calm hope you get a relaxing evening so that you're ready for whatever is ahead!

Ray I have NO idea what weight I was and am - we don't own any scales, and they don't weigh you here (woohoo for Brighton) so that is one less thing to worry about! I plan never to know my weight ever ever ever.

Well, here it has been a strange day. ds suddenly started to seem poorly after lunch, temp 39.5, very whiny and with a nasty cough. He went to sleep at 4, woke up about an hour ago & had a little to drink and off to bed again. Still has the same temp - if anyone has tips on how to get Calpol down a flailing 21 month old I'd appreciate it. We've been trying to use a syringe but he just spits it out. A spoon gets nowhere near him.. He's only been poorly a couple of times before so I don't know what I'm doing at all.

stripeywoollenhat · 17/12/2008 21:00

also, nj, sorry you have been having such a tough time, roll on boxing day and the little guy's arrival

and mm, glad to hear that ds2 is on the mend

Spink · 17/12/2008 21:04

stripey I've heard it is notoriously difficult to estimate baby size from a belly grope! At my NCT class the teacher was adamant that the vast majority of babies are the right sizes for their mum's pelvises, and so for one woman 8lb will be big, for another that will be smallish... I hold onto this factoid with hope!!

fourlittlestockingedfeet · 17/12/2008 21:19

Hi all, just popping in. spent last night in hospital as the BH are regular and they wanted to make sure it wasn't preterm labour! They are still regular and sometimes are quite achey, but cervix closed so allowed to go home! Offered steroids in case it comes early but declined as took too many (prescribed) drugs in last pregnancy and want this one to be intervention free if poss.

Lenni, following your progress with interest as I know you've been having similar in the build up to this. I'm a week behind you so if I'm in the same boat it'd be a crimbo baby. eeek.

Anyone else doing vbac, come on the vbac thread to whinge

stripeywoollenhat · 17/12/2008 21:32

spink - i hope you are right... have just been doing more or less the same thing as you with my cat! trying to get her to take medication with a syringe, i mean. absolutely failed, of course, so no advice, even if a cat were remotely the same as a 21 month old.... no reasoning with either, though, i guess...

Spink i am so jealous, I get weighed every week at my appointment and it depresses me everytime. I have now gained 32lbs (2 stone 4lbs?) and I still have another 3 and a half weeks to go. I dread to think what my body will look like afterwards!
I am dreading labour, as they have indictaed baby is bigger than average..that would be fine but DH has a huge head. I keep finding myself gazing at it when he talks to me, he is getting a little upset about it.
I have a rotten cold but am excited that I am nearly done with work, and yesterday I found out that the wee one has finally figured out how to get from transverse to vertex, yah!!
Lenni I am also envious of you, I couldn't say with any certainty that I have even felt any BH yet. Suppose that means I'll be hanging around here frantic at 42 weeks.
suppose that will give me some time to nest, I am a little behind schedule with all the cleaning and baby clothes washing I had planned to have done by now. I haven't even packed my bag. Yikes, I have some catching up to do!!

LenniEd · 18/12/2008 07:22

Am still here. Not sure whether to be pleased or not with that. Slept quite well in the end and still having cramps and backache, dosed up on paracetomol and just waiting now to see midwife and see what she makes of it all. Not sure what is going on now, but Shanster I wouldn't be a bit surprised if after all this I'm still here at 42 weeks too!!

Good luck to everyone seeing midwives today. Know what you mean about taking children GTDAB. Bit awkward to say the least.

And boo to weighing yourself. Save that for 6 months time eh ladies?!
