Feeling a bit guilty this morning after indulging in my first glass of wine since I found out I was pg. It was DELICIOUS! Still can't bear the smell of red wine but thought I really fancied white and if my body thought it was OK, then it wouldn't hurt...

Anyway had a brilliant night round our friends house - I am such a light weight now though - how can you feel so drunk on one tiny glass??!!!

Meeting up with my work colleague today for our pathetic attempt at a Christmas lunch - its not quite the same when there are only 2 of you, and we only have a £10 per head allowance Last year we went to Pizza Hut for the lunch time buffet and a bottle of Bud each and stuffed our face and still had change left over ...will try and find somewhere a bit better this year tho.

Hope everyone has a nice day and we get some full moon babies (although mine needs to wait until after lunch, but anytime after then is totally fine)

OrangeCrush · 12/12/2008 08:31

Oooo kayz Go for it!!!!!

poisondwarf · 12/12/2008 08:31

Ooh kayz could this be it?

JamInMyWellies · 12/12/2008 08:34

PD just a quick question re the tongue tie DS had it as did I so am expecting No2 to also have it. Does she bang her head at your boob when trying to latch on as that is classic also when she opens her mouth to cry does the tip of the tongue make a heart shape?? Yoiu need to see a BF coinscellor how has seen it before IMO the MW and HV are rubbish at diagnosing TT.

kayzisexpecting · 12/12/2008 08:37

I think it might be. They are quite painful now.

poisondwarf · 12/12/2008 08:50

Jam no, it's not tethering the tip but it doesn't necessarily have to to affect feeding as far as I know. With DS it was much more of a clear-cut case (he still has a little notch on the end of his tongue where the TT restricted the growth). Been doing some reading overnight and there is such a thing as posterior tongue tie is less easy to spot than the classic severe tongue tie you are talking about. The frenulum offers quite a bit of resistance when I press it though, even though it is much further back than DS's was.

The biggest thing that's making me think TT is more the sensation I feel - it's as if someone is scraping a piece of glass over my areola. Even though the nipple itself is damaged (bleeding and blistered, another classic sign), the pain is more in the areola than anywhere (that area is also bruised). Unfortunately you can't see what's going on when the mouth is closed but it does feel like the gum against me where it should be the tongue. When she latches on her tongue is far back, but she can extend her tongue when her lips are together. Other signs which she has are difficulty in maintaining the latch (taking in air due to poor seal, nipple feeding), and ability to feed for more than a few minutes at a time before getting too tired to continue. But none of these things on their own necessarily say tongue tie. I thought I would recognise it easily after DS but I'm really not sure this time.

Turniphead1 · 12/12/2008 08:50

Gosh Kayz - could this be it!?! How exciting (and how ironic after all the wondering, if you were going to be one of those select few who gives birth on their actual due date!!!)

Now we want a full live birth thread given that you are h'birthing! best of luck!

Beans33 · 12/12/2008 08:53

Morning all! How are you all doing? kayz - fingers crossed! Has anyone heard from Penny recently?

Thanks to everyone for your boob advice. They are still sore, but about bearable. Luckily got maternity nurse arriving on Monday for a few days, so think she'll show me what's going on! Izzy managing to sleep in 2-3 hourly bursts, so I'm getting about 5-6 hours sleep a night, which I understand is miraculous! Hurray. I don't feel too bad on it, either, which is great.

I'm just going to quickly send you all my birth story while DD is asleep upstairs.

at 2.30am went into St Thomas's as had some bleeding and at 3am, my contractions started! They monitored me til 9am then sent us home. They also thought my waters probably did start tearing on the Weds before, but they'd missed it. Thankfully, otherwise I'd have been induced on the Friday morning. At 1pm I rang the hospital again as although my contractions were still only every 3-15 mins and irregular, I was having more bleeding. They told me it was too soon to go in because they contractions were so irregular. Although let me tell you, they hurt like a bastard!

The helpful midwife suggested I go into the Day ASsessment unit, which is where i'd spent 5 hours on the Weds, queuing, so I decided not to do that!! All the way through labour, I had the worst squits and managed to give myself piles before I'd even started pushing the baby out! Ridiculous! I'd avoided them all bloody pregnancy as well.

at 3pm, I was upstairs and fell onto all fours and started yelling - I just couldn't help it! I was starting to want to push! James called a taxi and off we went to the hospital. I screamed all the way, but the cab driver was lovely! I just couldn't stop shouting, was awful.

Then got wheeled up to the labour ward and put straight into a room. I was 9cm dilated, which is extraordinary - didn't realise I was that far gone. They told em I could still have an epidural, though, so I asked for ti and the midwife went to get it sorted. When she came back, I'd had a think and actually was coping with the contractions, particularly now I could happily shout without having to try to muffle my screams!!! So she went to cancel it. I wanted the labour to be over quickly as well. As she left, I had another contraction and screamed to James "get me a FUCKING epidural NOW!". Then changed my mind again when the midwife got back!!! Ended up having a totally natural birth, which was great. 3 hours from when I arrived at the hospital. It hurt a lot, but I'd do it again tomorrow to have Izzy! At some stage about an hour before she arrived (time's a blur), my waters popped really loudly and splashed everywhere - was so satisfying! DH was a star throughout and looked after me beautifully.

When she popped out, I'd taken off my specs and thought she was a boy - oops! She had the cord wrapped round her neck twice, which was a scary moment, but it was ok. And she's ok - got 9 on the Apgar test - I'm wondering where she dropped a point!!!

Anyway, that's the long and short of it. I was bloody lucky, I must say.

kayzisexpecting · 12/12/2008 08:54

I think it might be. They are about 4 minutes apart and they really hurt.

DH has just got in.

kayzisexpecting · 12/12/2008 08:57

If I ring the hospital to get them to send MW what do I do if they say no?

I cant get to the hospital at all.

Beans33 · 12/12/2008 08:57

Oh wow, kayz - this coudl be it! I'm so excited for you - GOOD LUCK!!!!! xxxx

Congratulations Traceface, Bablington, Rosmerta, Hiccy and Kmp1.

Lots of hugs to Disenchanted and Abbymeg and to everyone feeling rubbish.

Well, I have a very clean kitchen floor but nothing else to show for it unfortunately. Let's hope the full moon will do its stuff. It would make my mum v happy as 13 December is St Lucia day in Sweden (where she is from).

I am going to try to pull my self together today after two days of being constantly on the verge of tears or weeping. I have told DH that I will think of Wednesday (induction day) as The Day now and stop obsessing about going into labour. Not sure if it's going to work though. Is it possible to scare off labour by being secretly petrified? I'm convinced that this baby is going to be massive but MW told me that they don't do anything about it other than advise you to have your baby in the labour ward rather than the birth centre if they do think baby is big, unless you had problems previously like shoulders getting stuck.

Sorry cross-posted - Good luck Kayz. Hope you get your home birth.

DisenchantedPlusBump · 12/12/2008 09:13

OOh good luck KAYZ!!!!

I think I had a show last night and this morning!

Its not a big jelly plug, but like pinky brown slime (TMI!!)

had some last night and this morning and am sooooooo crampy today!
None of my braxton hicks just these cramps!

Tomorrow is my sons 4th birthday .... it was the one day i was hoping she wouldn't come!

Opinions???

poisondwarf · 12/12/2008 09:22

Sounds like this could be it Disenchanted!

Just a word about the brown stuff - probably not relevant to you but when I was in labour with DS I had brownish discharge on my panty liner which I assumed was a tinge of old blood. When I mentioned it to the labour ward they were not concerned, but it turned out to be meconium in the end and so I should really have gone into hospital earlier than I did (it was all fine in the event). So I would just keep an eye on the colour if I were you.

DisenchantedPlusBump · 12/12/2008 09:24

Ahh thanks PD,

Im going to wait for a few hours and see if theres more, put a pad on and if my cramps get worse ill phone the midwifes and keep the pad to show them, just in case.

Turniphead1 · 12/12/2008 09:26

PD I have emailed you

Disenchanted sounds promising! Defo sounds like a show. i didn't have DS til about 10 days after my show (but think that's quite unusual!) so may not to be totally imminent, but you just never know!!

Cat glad you got some communication going with your Mum and that you are feeling a bit better!

Nolda hope something happens for you soon!

Beans what a marvellous birth story. Love the bit about you changing your mind about an epi so many times. But hey, it's a woman's perogative to change her mind as much as she wants.

kayz sounds like you could have a speedy labour. Good luck lovey!!

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 12/12/2008 09:38

emmanbump · 12/12/2008 10:05

Wow!!!

Congratulations Babbinton Rosmerta hiccy and KMP

See this threat title is proving correct. I wonder how many will pop at the full moon.

kayzisexpecting · 12/12/2008 10:11

Just a quick message from my mobile. I'm 3-4cm and they are still really painful.

Turniphead1 · 12/12/2008 10:35

But you are on your way!! Well done and best of luck.

artichokes · 12/12/2008 10:49

Yay, go Kayz!! I hope it is a quick one for you.

And yay for Disenchanted's show, should not be long now.

No news here. I am so jealous of all you early and on-timers. I had a bit more brown blood this morning but that is it.
