Way to go Reban - my first thought was how many kids have you had to be so proficient and I see from the list this is your forth so I pressume I will never get to be so speedy

I'm still waiting with no signs and reach my "end of term" in 20mins so the home birth is off. Have come to terms with that but it is hard to decide exactly what to do now as I don't think I am as overdue as my EDD implies but couldn't forgive myself if the baby had problems due to being overdue, i.e. if placenta became less efficient.

I have monitoring booked for boxing day and will obviously have an induction then if it shows up any problems, but although I was thinking of leaving nature to take it's course for a bit longer I think I might just book induction for Sat.

In the meantime I must try to relax and enjoy Xmas, I have had a lovely day today, keeping occupied but not with any chores. I haven't even thought much about being overdue so must try to repeat that tomorrow.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE AND ALL BUMPS AND BABES

LadyThompson · 24/12/2008 23:55

Merry Christmas everyone! Not had a second the last couple of days...now finally enjoying a glass of pink champagne by our lovely big tree whilst DP crouches behind the sofa to wrap my presents

Arti - lovely pictures, they really are...

Enjoyed your story, Invis. Well done you. I find all these stories riveting

PD - magic tips for winding - hmmm. My DD hangs on to it as well and the only thing I have found which helps is to keep her flattish after a feed and let things percolate for a few minutes, then sit her up/lean her forward and pat her back. It's the letting it all build up for a bit first which seems to do the trick.

JJ - I too have played that magic nappy game...I think they are just having their fun...

WG, good luck my dear! Keep that MiL at bay. And Summer - you next, surely!

Congrats Reban! How lovely for you. She's a Christmas present and a half.

Well, I was hoping to go to Midnight Mass but there's been a change of vicar and he decided to run the service at 10 and unfortunately we were busy with DD so couldn't go. Disappointing. Before I go, just thought I'd share this one with you. We popped up to the pub in the village for one drink early evening yesterday. Just as we were leaving and wheeling DD through the doors, a man I hadn't seen before stopped to peer into the Bugaboo with a rapt look on his face. I was really touched. "Aaaaah," he said mistily. "Four wheel steering." (Apparently he works in motor sport). Merry Christmas one and all!

Don't know why that posted twice. DP keeps telling me that some of my presents will have to wait until after Christmas as he couldn't get hold of them/didn't have time. We have both been incredibly busy and he has been such a star, but I did bust a gut to organise all my gifts weeks ago. Childish of me to mind a bit, I know... especially when we have the bestest Christmas present of all. Oh well I am a terrible spoilt baby. Tomorrow will be utterly lovely anyhow.

LadyThompson · 25/12/2008 00:04

It's not tomorrow, I've just noticed. It's today! Merry merry Christmas lovely girls.

Hiya everyone,

just letting you know baby Aurora was born at home yesterday morning at 6:20am weighing 8lbs 5oz

So the sweep worked, and thankfully a christmas eve baby rather than xmas day!

Had a fast but tough labour, didn't manage to get the pool up!!

She is adorable,

Will post pics soon

Disenchanted xxx plus Rorie!

VersOComeAllYeFaithful · 26/12/2008 05:43

Congratulations Reban, SL and DPB!

Catdean I am [fhshock] at your DP forgetting to get you a present. Was it a double bluff? I hope he had a surprise for you really.

My DH is a very very dear DH, having volunteered and done night duty last night! I started to get a dreadful coldy/flue-y thing yesterday, and can hardly speak, let alone open my mouth as my throat is so sore, so he let me sleep . Irony is I was up at 2am expressing anyway because my boobs were like rocks... but that's not the point!

Good luck for today, IceCube!

chutneymary · 26/12/2008 08:01

Woo hoo! Well done to Disenchanted, Reban and of course Summer Lightning, who gave us our first Christmas day baby. Were there any others, I wonder? I saw that WG's waters had gone so perhaps she has also had a lovely Christmas son or daughter by now. Good luck Ice and all those being induced today.

So sorry I couldn't get online yesterday to wish you all a happy Christmas. My internet connection is still temperamental and wouldn't let me on for Christmas Eve or Day. Am seizing the moment now. I hope everyone had a lovely day. We were thoroughly spoiled. Lots of nice food and drink, good presents for everyone and the BEST present last night - no, not that, I am one of the planned section girls who still would rather sleep than indulge in jiggery pokery at this stage - but M slept from 1am to 6am! He obviously knew I'd had a few glasses of champagne throughout the day and needed my bed. Perhaps that's what made him do it. Still, it was very much welcomed and I hope will be repeated.

Verso, I am so sorry you are coming down with this rotten cold. I've had it for over a week now and am just coming out the other side. Just got the smoker's cough left now. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery for you.

More good news is that I am driving again! I rang the insurance co and they are happy for me to drive if i feel safe, so off I went on Christmas eve! Not far and not fast as am still a bit timid (in general rather than post CS) but good to have that flexibility back. Now just got to figure out how to get the 3 of them in the Focus.

All still slumbering here, and I am bathed and dressed. Could go and sort out the clean laundry or could just stay here. I wonder which seems more tempting.....

Hope everyone has a great day today.

EffiePerine · 26/12/2008 08:17

Congratlations Reban, Disenchanted and of course SL for our first Xmas baby! Look forward to hearing from waitinggirl as well

Icecube: best of luck for the monitoring today

We had a lovely quiet day yesterday, no signs of baby arriving (phew!) and DS really enjoyed opening his presents . I am now officially an old gimmer, DH bought me some superior leather slippers and I was really pleased. My (older) sister got a leather corset.

LadyT: lol at the Bugaboo comment. I was out with DS in the Phil & Teds the other day (he thinks it's great) and a poncy Stokey dad complimented me on my choice of buggy - the shame

I hope all you lovely ladies with your babies enjoy your new (and extended) families this Christmas

Nolda · 26/12/2008 11:52

Hi everyone, just to let you know that Edwin ("Eddie") George was born on Sunday 14 December at 20.08 weighing 9 lbs 15 ozs. We are both fine but we are staying at my Mum's so today is the first day I've been able to nip home and get on the internet. Should maybe add that first contraction was at 17.45 and we arrived at the hospital at 19.30, so all quite scarily quick.

I hope that everyone had a good Christmas and congratulations to everyone who has had their babies since I last posted. Will try to catch up now.

kayzr · 26/12/2008 12:38

Congratulations to all our new babies!!!!

Hope everyone had a great day yesterday.

Absolutely shattered here as DS2 thinks bedtime is between 1 and 2. Going to try going to bed at 9 tonight so I get some sleep before he wakes up.

IceCube · 26/12/2008 12:50

Hope everyone enjoyed their Xmas, I can't keep up with all the new arrivals, (where is Bisou when we need her)but congrats to everyone who delivered over the festive period.

I am back from monitoring with a lovely midwife. Total contrast from my busy, overhearing everyones results experience of last Sat, they actually opened the day unit for me (unlocked the door and switched the lights on!) and the midwive gave me her full attention for the hour I was there (whereas last week it was constant stop start for her to see the other 8 women in there with me).

Everything is still fine tho my water level has dropped it is still good and BP etc are all still very good. Her approach was to give me as good a sweep as possible and book me in for induction on Sun so the sweep has two full days to work. She was able to do a better sweep than my midwife last week so maybe I am nearer to a natural time now.

Veggiemummy · 26/12/2008 15:22

Congrats DPB on your homebirth and Nolda on your fast one we must be almost there aren't we. Fingers crossed Icecube but either way it will be soon with induction booked.

Will post properly later but just a quickie to say that I had a text from Waiting Girl - she had a little girl on Christmas Day and I think she had been hoping for a girl. It was a crash section in the end and I don't think it was too nice but she says she will post soon. At least they are both ok. More soon, love to all.

Hi all,
Impossible to catch up on thread with all that's going on at my place!! Had a nice (all be it chaotic) Xmas yesterday! BF back on track after had a bit of stress over the weekend and my milk apparently stopped being released or something - which apparently happens when stressed? I had massive boiling hot boulders which I fixed by sending DH out on emergency trip to Boots for a breast pump after the BF specialist recommended it! Now he's back feeding a lot but hasn't gained enough weight (prob due to the lack of milk and panic over the weekend) so anyway, my latest question in about wind? Seems to get a lot of it and really upset / cranky and he shows signs of constant hunger but midwife is sure it's wind. I can usually get a couple of burps up (or it comes out the back end)but then he still seems to suffer badly from uncomfortable wind and won't settle until I get it up somehow... Anyone have any miracle cure? I have infacol, which doesn't seems to help him at all, but my friend in Australia swears by this but I will have to wait for my parents to return home to get it and send it - has anyone tried this or doesn anyone have a different miracle cure?

Veggiemummy · 26/12/2008 18:42

Kmp well done for your persistence and getting things back on track sounds like you have a supportive MW too which helps. You will be happy you were able to get through this bit I a few weeks. A friend of mine tried Colic Calm which she found through a company on eBay. Also how does your baby sleep is it possible to raise the cot head a little during the day at least. Also sit up immediately after the feed and give a good pat on the back. DH used to think I was going to rattle poor DS when I beat him on the back but always got his wind up.

Hi everyone, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas. Just wanted to announce the birth of Eloise Frances on Monday night, weighing in at 6lb 7oz ? she?s a little beauty (in our eyes anyway!)

It looks like I?ve got a lot to catch up on, so will start reading and look forward to hearing how Christmas went for all of you.

Love to you all xx

EffiePerine · 26/12/2008 19:10

Congratulations to Nolda and Waitinggirl . No news from Bisou... was she away fro Christmas?

EffiePerine · 26/12/2008 19:11

Ooh and to you Zoe

Absolutely NO signs here, looks like this one might be either on time or late!

lowrib · 27/12/2008 07:22

Hi everyone, I hope you had a great Christmas.

I had a beautiful baby boy on Christmas Eve, 6.30am.

If you don't want to hear a bad birth story, look away now!

The birth was an absolute nightmare. I was induced and we pulled the short straw and got a midwife with absolutely no interest in supporting me with active labour / breathing etc. She simply wanted me on my back, legs in stirrups, with an epidural, old-fashioned stylee. (Something I really wanted to avoid). We tried to change midwives (all the others we've met were lovely) but the hospital was understaffed and really busy so no chance. The induced contractions were coming on so strong, and had gone on for hours so I was in agony, and eventually gave up any idea of an active birth, and went for the epidural - which then didn't work!!!
The anesthetist topped me up 4 or 5 times but it simply didn't touch me. He actually came and apologised after and said it wasn't normal, but he had no idea why it didn't work. He said I'd had what you could call "a traditional birth". The induction started on the morning of the 23th. I finally delivered nearly a day later in absolute agony, on my back, feet in stirrups screaming the place down!

Of course the most important thing is I have a lovely baby boy, so it was all worth it in the end. I know it could have been a lot worse, but after all the work we did on learning about labour, talking to the midwives who seemed progressive and well versed on different approaches to labour, I feel quite cheated to have had to have found myself in such an old fashioned scenario, and to have had to suffer so much pain!

Really happy to see some good birth stories here - I might like to do it again one day, and I need to know it doesn't have to be like that!

Good luck to everyone who's still waiting. Hope I haven't put you off too much. Despite all the pain, I'd do it all again right now if I had too, my little boy is just wonderful.
