It's nearly CHRISTMAS!!!!!

Well Dylan had 3oz of formula at midnight and slept until 5 and then I BF him and we slept until half 8!! I doubt every night will be that good but it seems the mixed feeding might work.

Invisible, that was a lovely birth story.

Arti, your girls are gorgeous.

Hope you all have great days tomorrow.

waitinggirl · 24/12/2008 11:08

invisible - sounds great, well done!

i woke up at 5.30am with - shock, horror - period pains (remember those?) tried to get some more sleep, and tried to work out whether this was the beginning of something or not. had a bath at 8.30 - felt much better -got out and felt very heavy and now the pains have all but gone. am presuming this is pretty normal and is a sign that something is happening, although not a sign that anything is imminent.

btw - can you be a bit dilated and not have a show?

keep wondering about whether we want the sproglet to come over christmas or to wait until after. the parking at the hospital would be way easier if it came nowish, i suppose. but do i want to share my birthday with the sproglet (28th). hmm...

going for a lovely walk up and down a hilly north london park this afternoon to see if that helps.

Turniphead1 · 24/12/2008 12:39

Simmo I am still here now crossing my legs til tomorrow evening (after the Royle family Christmas special!). Maybe we will both pop on Friday?!

Happy due date to us, Zoejeanne - are you off beating me to it, girl?

Kayz that sounds like a great night! You do what is best for you and your family.

Veggie glad you got some Christmas shopping done.

invisiblehand great bith story - well done!! So positive and lovely.

oli and others with sick DC - hope they are all better before HE arrives tonight (I am so excited, I LOVE Father Christmas and all the stuff!).

My Dad and Sis are here now. Dad well-bahaved so far (apart from going out and leaving my front door lying open - so my 3 year old can wander off and play with the traffice peut-etre??). DH and I have probably now got names sorted.

I have house to myself at moment. I am playing Christmas songs and about to do a tapas spread for everyone for lunch. And you know what, I may have a nice glass of white wine with it...
Then I am going to cook my enormous ham, prep my veg for tomorrow and do my sis a timetable to cook lunch tomorrow (she is being a super assistant!).

Happy Christmas to all. Safe journeys to those travelling. Safe births to anyone birthing. Lots of sleep to those with babes in situ in the manger.

Turniphead1 · 24/12/2008 12:43

WG sounds like the start of early labour, but could be a day or so, it's so hard to know. Exciting! Some people don't get a show at all!

And Bisou hope you are maybe off having your little one (and a lovely peaceful birth)! I can't beleive you have never moaned or groaned about being overdue (the way I will be shortly) - you are always so positive!

poisondwarf · 24/12/2008 14:08

Hiya everyone,

Not been on for ages - been reading but impossible to keep up with posting at the mo.

First of all massive congratulations to kayz, Veggie, BigBird, JollyBear, hotmama, Pingu, Orange, abby, Jam, arti (nice name!), major and Invisible and welcome to all your lovely new arrivals. Hope I haven't missed anyone.

Thanks for all the birth stories - must get round to writing mine before I forget it all.

Sorry can't keep up with the thread at the moment so can't do personals, but hope everyone's well & everything goes okay for those still waiting.

Things are going great here. DD did turn out to have tongue tie in the end so we had that snipped just over a week ago. 90% of the pain went immediately, and the rest has gradually subsided over time with some work on the positioning and attachment. It's pretty much pain-free now - yesterday was the first day I haven't had to take any painkillers before a feed. Such a relief to have it sorted.

Apart from that, DD is a really easy baby. The only problem we have (not that it's much of a problem at all) is that she takes in quite a lot of air during feeds and I have such trouble getting it back up again - so I end up giving up and putting her down to sleep, only for her to bring it up a few minutes later along with half her feed. Does anybody have any magic tips for winding? I use a combination of against/over the shoulder, sitting up with chin resting on my hand and lying her on her front on my lap. I also rub and pat her back and her left side. I don't know any other methods - anything else I could try?

Anyway, better dash - loads of stuff to do.

Looking forward to hearing about any new arrivals. Wonder if we'll get any Christmas babies in the end?

Have a fantastic Christmas!

jumpjockey · 24/12/2008 14:32

Hi all, wishing you a fabby Christmas eve

invisiblehand what a lovely birth story hope you're enjoying life with your new enlarged family - sounds like your dd is an angel as well!

poisondwarf I got some great advice on the BF/FF board which was to burp dd halfway through a feed - sometimes I can feel/hear a rumbling so take her off and sit her up for a bit so she burps before her tummy feels full - it's worth a try? And then she can feed a bit more and is likely to keep more down. Good news that the tongue tie is fixed so both of you have less pain (the thread is here www.mumsnet.com/Talk/breast_and_bottle_feeding/670178-BF-baby-39-holding-onto-wind-39)

kay z chin up lovey, you're doing a great job and it sounds like mix feeding is working well for you all

turnip and WG good luck both

Now a question for those who have babies (new this season or previously!) DD has been utterly knackering and very environmentally hostile today - had a feed at about 9, small snooze til about 10.30 then was very awake looking round at the world. Got hungry at 11.30 ish, fed for an hour or so and stayed awake, then started to look sleepy so I took her upstairs to lie down in the cot and she managed to get hiccups and wake herself up. Started to get upset so I picked her up for a hug, she filled her nappy. Removed nappy and put fresh one under her. She weed all over it Took nappy 2 away, put fresh one under her. She weed on that one as well . Nappy no. 3 seems to have held but now she's awake again and starting to get hungry - having not really had a proper sleep since about 10.

Is this just what they do?! Of course she was being totally adorable looking around at the world and doing funny faces during her awake times, made up a hundredfold for the exhaustion. Or am I just hallucinating from tiredness?

jumpjockey · 24/12/2008 14:42

and good luck Simmo as well - lots of babies imminent by the look of it

hi all and congrats to those of you who have had your baby and goodluck to those who are waiting. i have not had a chance to do this earlier as i have been trying to master the art of exclusive breastfeeding all over again and you may find me popping in time ti time asking for help on other threads! i had my beautiful baby boy Daniyal on his due date, saturday the 13th of december at 9.06am at the barkentine birthing centre on the isle of dogs, london. it was a fantastic birth and the experience was amazing, unlike my first!my contractions started at around 3.30am and he was born 6 hours later with only the help of hubby, three lovely midwives and gas and air on the last hour. i will make time and chat about this on the birth announcements as it was so lovely but for now i will leave you guys as feeding time approaches.thanks for all your support through the pregnancy and hope you all have the best labour possible and a beautiful healthy child at the end of it!xxx

waitinggirl · 24/12/2008 17:48

ooh, hello... after this morning's period pains and this afternoon's walk, i think i've just had a show. although not sure. some dark brown, almost black oldish blood. didn't look very jelly like, though. any advice?

we've investigated our (embarrassingly) large selection of books and it is probably fine, but we're going to wrap each other's presents before we ring the labour ward to ask. they might want us in, and i really want the presents wrapped first.

any other people's experiences of shows???

waitinggirl · 24/12/2008 17:50

just realised the chances of people being on mn on christmas eve evening is very unlikely. hmm... but if anyone's out there???

emmanbump · 24/12/2008 18:15

Hi All

Just a quick one to say merrry christmas. i'm still hanging on so hopefully a post crimbo baby for me now

WG My show was more like browny discharge (sorry TMI) a bit like at the beginning or end of your period. Just ring the labour ward they won't mind. Good luck.

xx

SummerLightning · 24/12/2008 19:20

hi wg I have just had the same thing....it was really watery as well. Had a sweep earlier today and they said to me not to worry if I had any blood or stuff today, but I guess this is "show" type stuff. Might ring the hospital in a bit.
I have presents to wrap too.
I think it could be xmas day for us!!!

waitinggirl · 24/12/2008 19:31

waters just popped like a balloon - managed to make it to the kitchen floor which i had just cleaned this afternoon. off to hospital now!

SummerLightning · 24/12/2008 19:37

good luck!!! I was having stomach cramps but they seem to have stopped now, dammit....

reban · 24/12/2008 19:57

hi i know there is prob very few mums on mumsnet now but just to let you know baby Joscelyn Elizabeth was born at 1.04pm today. I will post proper birth story in few days, but just to say first contraction at 11am, got to maternity block at 12noon just in time to see everybody being evacuated because fire alarm had gone off. Grabbed closest midwife who helped dp get me up the flight of stairs to delivery suite. At about 1pm felt the urge to push and two very loud screams and pushes later she arrived! She is a beauty and we are all very happy, will fil in gaps and email pics soon. Merry xmas

snorris · 24/12/2008 20:00

Just popping in quickly hooray Reban well done is that the fastest birth so far?

WG how exciting off you go.

SL might still happen.

Kutilputil- well done and we are birthday buddies. Our London place is just around the corner from the Barkantine and if we still lived there may have had ds2 at the birth center.

I'm so looking forward to tomorrow it is the first time ds1 is aware of what's going on so he is soooooo excited has Bern counting down all week.

Congratulations Reban

Veggiemummy · 24/12/2008 22:17

Feeling a bit cheap we didn't actually buy ds2 any pressies I have just wrapped some of ds1s old baby toys, some are hardy used. I did go to mothercare and ELC but most of the stuff they had for babies we already had or at least similar. So that's were I got the idea of just giving him the old toys.
