Just marking for later

theHoHoHouseofmirth · 04/12/2008 14:33

I'm here!

Stacysmom I think 38 weeks is the recommended window to get your nursing bras fitted as believe it or not, your breasts still have a way to go yet...

Are we actually having a formal competition about who is the least prepared for their baby? I'd like to nominate myself but I don't know if yesterday's vest-buying has scuppered that!

London Meet January 19th

There's a thread on FB about this but just to let you know the plan is to meet at lunchtime (we'll pin down when that is a bit nearer the time) on Monday 19th Jan at the Royal Festival Hall Cafe. This is on the Southbank near Waterloo. I'll post a link on FB with details of how to get there.

Anyone living in London or within travelling distance is expected to attend invited as are older children and DPs/DHs/anyone capable of running after and catching aforementioned DCs.

stacysmom · 04/12/2008 14:43

Houseofmirth - you bought something?! I'm very impressed

I've just had a friend on the phone offering me a moses basket and stand, which is lovely. She is also giving us a travel system which has seen active service with their three children but is much appreciated. Unfortunately DH sees this as being robbed of obsessing over which buggy to get... there's no pleasing some people.

KT1983 · 04/12/2008 14:50

Hello, bit late, but im here [fgrin}

dinkystinky · 04/12/2008 14:53

Stacysmom - there is a world of baby related gadgetry your DH can sink his teeth into - like baby monitors, slings etc. - he shouldnt feel too deprived!

littleboyblue · 04/12/2008 14:54

You bunch of buggers I started writing a post, scrolled up to all I've missed today, scrolling back down to enter little personnals to you all, nearly done and I read you've started a new thread!! Well,
PT Sorry to hear about your dp, I had it once and it's horrible hope he gets better soon
Good on you for doing the decorating, but take it easy. I want to do our whole place as still magnolia and lemon (yuk) from when we moved in..

Bras I haven't done anything about yet. Not planning on bf so not overly concerned about the underwire yet, although back is hurting so will ahve to get support bras out soon.

I've just done all the hoovering and mopped all my floors, changed the beds and done the washing up. Now having 10mns on here before I play with ds for a bit.

dinkystinky · 04/12/2008 14:56

Sorry LBB - my fault. Having quiet afternoon at work and thought would put it to good use in starting new thread - as the other one would be full by 5 today otherwise anyway..

OP posts:
littleboyblue · 04/12/2008 15:06

Let you off then . That certainly is putting quiet time at work to good use

LittleMissNorty · 04/12/2008 15:23

Just put a link on the old thread to this one, so hopefully everyone will find us now.

19th Jan is pretty close to due dates for some....I can hardly walk for more than half an hour now....let alone in 6 or 7 weeks on a train with a buggy....perhaps we should also do a summer meet-up with babies and other DC's....once I've learnt how to get two ready and out of the house...

dinkystinky · 04/12/2008 15:26

A summer/late spring meet up (please let 2009 be a nice summer like 2006) sounds like a great idea too.

swampster · 04/12/2008 15:48

[pees on thread to mark it]

laidbackinengland · 04/12/2008 16:27

Oi, Swampy keep yer pee to yourself !
LMN - 19th far too close for me to chance a meet up in London - but will happily attend something in the summer.

Just got back from Gp's with anti biotics. They smell of sick .

dinkystinky · 04/12/2008 16:30

That doesnt sound good Laidback - hopefully they'll do the trick though and sort your immune system out.

Cant believe it will actually be colder in London this weekend than it will be in Copenhagen... the bbc is forecasting minus 1 degrees for Saturday night in London compared to a balmy 3 degrees in Copenhagen

mrsy · 04/12/2008 17:17

Hey all -

I've only bought nursing bras as apposed to maternity support bras, so I have a couple in each size - as I'm hoping to bf for a while, it should mean I don't have to buy to many after she's born when I'm not working. I went for Mothercare, I think the 2-packs are about £20, and they have a matching underwhatsits in different styles - shorts, over bump, thong (!) etc., which sold them to me over M&S as they don't do matching knickers and I don't do mix and match undies....

swampster · 04/12/2008 17:18

[pees on laidback's anti-bs to take away the smell of sick]

TinkerBellesMum · 04/12/2008 17:30

THOM considering that my baby has been trying to escape for the last 7 weeks and we're still not ready, I think I win hands down!

mrsy, you may find your size varies quite drastically when the baby comes. I was in hospital with a woman who was too big for a bra, she literally hung to her waist. I saw her a few months later at the hospital baby clinic and she said "look, no boobs!"

KT, remember nothing can be done without your permission, even if you get MWs saying to you "it's time to" it's not! Use your TBRAINS and don't get pushed into anything. There are times when you know there's no alternative - like when you're descended on by a bunch of people all dressed for theatre being very serious and telling you they need to move now, but if there's time for niceness, there's time for them to explain and for you to make a choice either way.

littleboyblue · 04/12/2008 17:59

Know what you mean about 19th being close. I just walked round Tesco's in tears for the back pain and the tightness of bump, it tightened with every step it felt like, but not so bad indoors I'm still gonna try to get there though, hoping this'll pass in a few days.

dinky your weather report has made me laugh, dp is working out on the railway track saturday night. I'm mean but hehehehehe

Regarding bras again, when I was carrying ds, I was in sooo much pain from my normal bra so went to MC to get measured for a nursing bra (was planning to bf and didn't want to buy a support bra and then a nursing one, they quite pricey) was told I should wait til 37 weeks when my milk would be in. Tbh, I'm 38DD so fair size anyway and got realllllly big after.

As we were saying earlier, I've just taken the side off ds's cot because sitting with him last night was a killer for me, can't bend over the bars so am thinking to sit on floor stroking him. Might also be chasing him around the house all night though.......

herbgarden · 04/12/2008 18:13

Blimey, I take a day off from the computer and there is tons of chat and a new thread?!

I suppose those of us on second (third, fourth) babies are sort of prepared in that we could cobble a few sleepsuits and some bedding together if needs be - I'm sort of thinking I'm organised because I have a loftful of crap useful items. I think with christmas on the way and mat leave starting in Jan that "operation focus on baby no2" will start then. DS is still at nursery 2 days a week so I have alsorts of plans (DS was 3 weeks early so hopefully no 2 won't decide to do the same)

I too have been having thoughts about how I'll feel about no2 (you were chatting about it yesterday I think ) - DS is sooooo gorgeous at the moment (between bouts of being a little sod) I'm nervous about this new little being shattering our bubble. DS has also been relatively easy on the grand scale of things and I just think that I can't possibly be as lucky with no2. I didn't instantly fall in love with DS - in fact I felt so overwhelmed by his presence that I would have happily sent him back. I then realised after a couple of months that he had completely turned my world upside down and that I couldn't imagine life without him. I'm just now making the most of our time together - lots of lazy mornings when I have my days off and doing nice things together during the day.

The mattress topper has arrived today so I'm very excited about my first nights sleep !

mumoverseas · 04/12/2008 18:26

hello all, hope everyone ok and not too cold!
had a wobbly moment today which sent me into a panic. I got a phone call from the secretary to the consultant I'm supposed to see at the hospital. Twice I've had appts but ended up seeing a junior (YTS) doctor instead. There was discussion a while ago about one of my health problems, namely a dvt I had a few years back (after spinal surgery) well apparently being pregnant (and old and overweight) I am at risk of another (not to mention the long haul flying!) and out of the blue I get a phone call saying the consultant has had a report from the haematologist saying I must to go hospital tomorrow as they want to start me on some form of heparin. I then spoke to my DH in Saudi and asked him to check with our Saudi doctor if he thought it was safe (forgetting it is Saudi weekend) anyway DH finds a website about it and it appears it is safe to take in pregnancy, unlike warfarin, but I have to inject myself into my stomach every day!aaaghhh! they have got to be kidding surely? what sort of crazy person could do that? I know one of our bunch (rosie?) is diabetic and therefore you probably have to self inject but into your STOMACH?
sorry, very me, me, me but the thought of it fills me with dread!
herbgarden, very jealous at your mattress topper and the thought of a whole nights sleep!

littleboyblue · 04/12/2008 18:29

OMG MoS, sound awful. I can't do needles at all, so forgive me for not thinking too much about it but def don't thi nk I could do it in baby bump!! What about bum?

mumoverseas · 04/12/2008 18:44

apparently it has to be stomach LBB. When I had my dvt a few years back they injected me in the stomach which was fine (well better!) as didn't have a bloody baby in it then! I did egg donation a few years back and had to inject myself in the thigh which was terrible, but again, not in the stomach! I used to sit with the needle blubbing for about an hour before each injection.
I know I'm pathetic and I'm sure loads of other women have to do it but it just sounds so awful, what if I pierce my baby!

littleboyblue · 04/12/2008 18:47

You won't pierce your baby! I'd be thinking that deep down too though. They wouldn't use that form of treatment if it wasn't safe for both you and baby, you know that.
Was just trying to think of an area that might be close enough to bump without actually being bump.
