MKG after dd was born my dh filled up the fridge with camenbert, brie, blue cheese, chicken liver pate and prawn cocktail - best present ever!!!

Is there any way that you can finish work early?

BumblBeee · 01/02/2009 18:24

re: HB

I tried for a Home Birth last time around. I hired private midwives from well-known company.

The younger one said I was dilated and that I could push but she was wrong and labour stopped due to a swelled cervix.

10 hours later having lost confidence in MWs I went to hospital where I was immediately put on all the drugs and then ended up with an EMC 7 hours later.

Still I think HB is great if you can get good people to support you.

Great tips re feeding bras - thanks. Must put that on my list and go 37 weeks ish. I had to send my mum out to buy mine last time as I had dd early. As it was, we didn't manage to get it together and I ended up expressing for a few weeks and then giving up all together. Am with you Meep on trying to sort it out this time. I was going to go to a workshop a few weeks ago but wasn't feeling v. good so missed it. I have quite a few friends local to me who are willing to give a hand if I need it but am hoping that my previous problems were related to dd's earliness/size/stress of delivery etc etc.

That said, it appears to have done her no harm whatsoever as is quite the antithesis of a stereotypical ff child so I am not going to beat myself up if it doesn't work out but I'm going to give it my best shot.

Slickbird · 01/02/2009 19:53

I was at mum's yesterday day the first thing I spotted when I looked in the fridge was some stilton and some blue brie! I just about cried! And I want pate too! Except, last time, I thought I'd stock up on it all when I had the baby and then didn't fancy it! I was so disappointed! Hope I do this time.

Bumblebee How bloody annoying to be told to push before time for it to end in a Csec! Better luck this time!!

(I seem to have caught Emma's exclamation disease!!!!!)

...............runs off!!

Wheelybug · 01/02/2009 21:14

LOL 2Cute... that makes you even more disgraceful than us .

On a serious note, MKG - did you try with your DS1 and if so and assuming it didn't work out, was it easier with DS2 ?

lizzie - sorry you're having such a tough time. I meant to post last week to say I hope the funeral went as ok as these things can.

On the food front - I really want smoked salmon. I eat it in my first pregnancy and then in the notes I got from my GP this time it specifically said not to eat it. I have told dh he's bringing me a cream cheese and smoked salmon bagel to the hospital.

laumiere · 01/02/2009 22:28

Loving the cravings posts!

Think I may win disgraceful mummy awards for refusing to give up my sesame prawn toasts. I was so sick with DS1 that it was a lovely surprise this pregnancy to be able to still eat them! MW was great, her attitude was go on as long it's properly cooked.....

Two bits of news, DH is surprisingly ok with a home birth! His main concern was DS1 hearing mummy in pain, until I pointed out we make more noise doing the dirty and DS1 sleeps through that! So will see what the MW says on Wed when I am 35+1, fingers crossed!

Other bit of news, I seem to have lost half a stone (3kg) in the last fortnight. Any ideas? I've been eating for the country!

MKG · 02/02/2009 00:01

laumiere- Don't worry too much. With both ds1 and ds2 I lost 5 lbs around this time in pregnancy. I didn't know why and just thought it was an act of kindness from God.

Wheely-- I did try to bf ds1, but I was induced at 38 weeks which I think he just wasn't ready for. He was healthy otherwise, but just did nothing but sleep for the first month of his life. I tried to bf him for 2 weeks, but just settled on formula as the only way he would eat is if I shoved a bottle in his mouth.

With ds2 it was very different. He came out and was a natural. I liked it and it was very easy for both of us.

Honestly though, they both have eczema, are tall for their age, skinny for their height, and are very clever. I don't know if I want to bf this baby, but probably will, as bfing is the one part of motherhood that I hate. I can't explain it, but I do.I look at it like a job, not an act of love. but then again exclusively bfing is a full time job in the beginning.

Wheelybug Thanks the funeral went ok. I think my cold is just a reaction to everthing.

I'm going on the theory if i can manage the first few days/week then i have done well. Then i will switch to bottle.

I'm find b/feeding bloody painful so i think for me if i'm doing my best if i can manage for a few days.

I also think dd2 (she will be 18mths) will hate me feeding/holding the baby as she hates it when i cuddle dd1. She hits, pushes and try's to pull dd1 of my lap . DD2 is very attached to me, she is also very shy and will only go to daddy or nanny (mum) when upset. She will not go to nanny & grandad and give cuddles untill she been around them for about half an hour of being with them.

As for craving i've not had any, mind you i've not realy stopped eating anything i fancy as i didn't know i was pg until i was 10/11 wks and i ate everything i not supposed to then.

Wheelybug · 02/02/2009 08:45

Hello (she shouts from under a foot of snow.. in London as well ). Nursery is shut, DH can't get to work.... It'll be exciting until I actually want to do anything practical .

MKG - thanks for that - dd was induced at 37 weeks so I agree that it doesn't help ! I'm just going to take it as it is - give it my best shot and deal with the situation as it arises. To be honest, I can't get my head around these new bottle feeding guidelines with having to use boiling water etc. Can see it would be workable at home but out ??

Laumiere - glad DH is up for the homebirth - sounds a sensible idea all round. I think I've lost weight too - not as much but have not been putting on weight (although baby has) and I put on my knee length boots yesterday which I haven't worn for a while - one was a bit snug before and did up without much effort. Mind you, I have had to cut down what I eat in the evenings as otherwise I vomit so that's probabyl helping !!

Slickbird · 02/02/2009 08:45

SLEEP? whassat then? (That's a yawn btw)

Wheelybug · 02/02/2009 08:46

Lizzie - understandable re cold really. Take care of yourself...

Also meant to say, I have eaten prawns throughout - as long as they're cooked but I have even eaten cooked but cold ones. I think they're ok in pregnancy.

titmouse · 02/02/2009 09:08

morning ladies,

My boss and his second in command both told me to stay at home today on account of the snow, I don't think they want a pregnant lady slipping over on their conscience! Fine by me, I am happy to have an extended weekend

I'm grateful for the feeding bra info, hadn't quite understood how big boobs will get when the milk comes in. they have grown so much already, I can't imagine another fist-worth of boob to accommodate!

Bumblbeeee we are due on the same day! I meant to say that the other day when you first posted but there's been such a flurry of activity on the thread this last week or so, I keep having to catch up!

lollipopz · 02/02/2009 10:04

Hi all not had a chance to catch up properly just had a quick skim through!
MKG Sympathise with the sore vagina, I feel like i've been kicked by a horse, add a uti on top of that and its rather uncomfortable down there!

Got sent to hosp on friday as GP told me my bump was far too big so that resulted in them telling me baby is on the 97th centile and they will need to monitor the size as I was 32 weeks and they estimated 6lbs , midwife said 'oh you have had a big baby before (8/4) so you will be fine, although if you go to full term I would imagine 10lbs! Que me running screaming in a blind panic to dh telling him baby would prob be early or it would be mahoosive! Needless to say being a man he found my panic hysterically funny! I have always thought I was a week or so ahead of the due date the hospital gave me, so hopefully thats all it is! So some where between 5 or 7 weeks to go then! Was nice to get to see baby in scan though, not had one since 12 weeks, was opening its mouth, and sonographer kindly pointed out wee rolls of fat on its thighs!

Hope every one is well, Babies will start arriving this month, how exciting!
PS hedge thank you for helping calm my big baby fears on my other wee thread!

goldmother2b · 02/02/2009 11:33

hello all,

Re cravings, I started off really well....caved in to smoked salmon and prawns at Christmas and have had the occasional treat every now and then since (I think it is the gestational dibetes' fault as I am feeling pretty deprived at the moment!).

I've got my appointment with the consultant tomorrow who will make the final decision on my induction date - so watch this space for what is likely to be one of the first March babies......in Feb.

A bit worried about the probs with BF and early inductions that Wheely and MKG mentioned, as I am very keen to give it a good go - does anyone have any success stories in this area?

Well, I'm thinking of braving the snow and nipping down to my local shops (in the car - I don't think I'd be able to lug my huge frame back up the very steep hill
if there are even the slightest problems with traction!)

livismum · 02/02/2009 11:34

Hi all sat here with my crazy DD who insisted all she wants to eat is an ice cream! I swear she is taking advantage of my inability to argue with her at the mo!

Only 2 weeks left for me at work and my replacement starts next sun so all getting more real!

Baby will have no room of its own for a while as extension is underway, well under snow today! My Dad was due to be helping build at weekends but has just been made redundant from construction company he works for, so it might get finished sooner than expected! However at mo i have stuff everywhere, bags are packed because it frees up drawers etc not because im hyper organised!

My DD was born at 37 weeks and im trying not to presume this one will be the same but its hard to think i might go longer this time. I keep getting v sharp little pains down below, this bubba is such a wriggler ive no idea which bits are which! keep meaning to post some pics will hopefully get round to it! xx

Wheelybug · 02/02/2009 11:38

goldmother - my dd was also very small, 4 lbs 9oz which I think added to the problems. Presumably with GD, you are being induced to stop the baby being too big so this wouldn't add to your problems.

Millie26 · 02/02/2009 12:24

Oooo we are nearly onto our next thread!

Livismum, glad to hear I'm not the only one with a total wriggler! Do they stop when they are engaged or can you still feel them?

I got woken up at 5am with what felt like a cross between trapped wind (nice) and period pains. I'm assuming these are BHs - baby was moving around loads while it was happening so I dont know if she could feel it or something.

Lollipopz am v jealous you got to see your LO on a scan! And you're right - this is the month when people will start to pop, woo hoo!!

MKG · 02/02/2009 12:49

Wheely- I have to say I laugh at all these guidelines you guys have and live by over there. Our guidlines are: pour desired amount of water in bottle, add powder, mix until powder is dissolved. We don't boil it or any of that crap. Maybe I would if I lived in the city where water tastes like ass, but not in the country where I live where the public water is perfectly clean.

I don't really understand why you have to boil it first (maybe in an area where the water isn't clean). Personally I wouldn't bother.

Goldmother--You don't have to be induced. Have they done any growth scan at all. I one at 34 weeks and will have another at 38 weeks and if all is well they don't really need to. Maybe you could talk to them about going to 40 weeks instead of 38. Unless you want to. Also make sure you get your Bishops score. I'm a firm believer that if your cervix isn't ready, no matter what they do, an induction won't work.

laumiere · 02/02/2009 13:14

I FFed DS1 and unless they've changed theformula, he was fine with all the water for the feeds boiled, put into the right measurements in the bottles and left til needed. We had little individual milk dispensers with the formula measured out and it was just a case of bunging one in the other and shaking. Can't understand why people see that as such a faff! Also the whole boiling before each feed strikes me as a bit dangerous TBH, esp if you're sleep deprived!
