Good for you Millie. Hope something gets sorted out for you.

I've got baby monitors despite only living in a 2bed house just because I'm paranoid! I did get the cheapest ones I can find, and my hearing is a bit dodgy especially if there's any background noise so I like being able to see the noise level lights just to be sure.

Plus, everyone on my street has a tendency to pop round other people's for dinners plus baby monitor because they still work at such close range!

auntyspan · 28/01/2009 15:17

Hello ladies!!

All well here, had mw appt this morning and although I'm still big nothing to be concerned about.

And I finish work on Friday WOOOO!

As for poo's, DD1 had dreadful wind and once DH was changing her nappy - she pooed and farted at the same time and poo SHOT out all over the nursery - across the floor, over the bookcase, over DH. Proper jet propelled. I thought it was hilarious, not sure DH was as impressed

Babymonitors - we were in a terrace with DD1 and still used one, I was paranoid and wanted to hear her breathing if I could! Will def use it with this one as we're a couple of rooms away.

Bouncy chairs - we got given the Bjorn baby bouncer (here ) on the pricey side but DD1 is three next week and she still uses hers. Fantastic and comfy, you can adjust the height and stuff and light enough to carry round. Didn't like the vibrating ones at all!

Wheelybug · 28/01/2009 15:21

Millie - BM haven't gone into administration yet. Legally, it would have to be public knowledge (i sadly worked in insolvency pre-dd). However, they do seem to be in a lot of trouble and owe a lot of people money. They are owned by an icelandic bank which is the problem. Their shops are still trading and appear well stocked (as I dashed there a couple of weeks ago to get dd a 'big sister' t-shirt in case they went bust before the event).

Good for you though writing to watchdog - something must be done as so many people are unhappy.

I've just ordered my tens machine and a new vial of arnica for the homeopathic birthing kit someone lent me. Sllllooowwwlllly getting organised !

laumiere · 28/01/2009 15:29

Aw thanks! blush

I wanted to get something nice and one of the major reasons for me giving up BF the first time was feeling awkward about public feeding, so I thought a purpose-made dress would help. To be fair it's only the third wedding outfit I've ever bought and that includes my own wedding dress!

Millie26 · 28/01/2009 15:51

Oooo wheelybug I didnt know are owned by an Icelandic bank - that would explain it!

Just annoying that they accepted my return probably knowing they couldnt refund me. I would have chosen to have an exchange if I'd known sigh

Gorge dress Laumiere.

lizziemun · 28/01/2009 15:52

Boobz I wouldn't bother with a fluffy dressing gown as hospital so hot you won't need it.

When dd1 was born 27/01/04 i kept opening the window even though it was snowing out side as was too hot.

BTW your nursery looks great.

MKG · 28/01/2009 16:21

Boobz-about the dressing gown (is that a nightgown, or a bathrobe?) [puzzled American emoticon]

either way, get one cheap that you don't mind being ruined in about 5 minutes because you never know what wonderful "products" might end up ruining it.

OP posts:
Boobz · 28/01/2009 16:49

It's not massive, tbh, but a friend said she would recommend it as she liked to hear when they were starting to get grizzly before they had got to the point where they were in complete melt down, and intercept, if you see what I mean.

They're only 20 quid on Ebay so it's no biggie. But I appreciate I probably don't need it!

xx

Missmodular · 28/01/2009 17:20

We have a baby monitor that has a camera at the baby end and a tiny tv screen at the parent end - and we only live in a 2 bed flat!!

Probably a bit ott but DP is a bit of a techno whiz and sometimes hooked it up to the tv so we could watch DD sleeping on widescreen.

Now I know that's a bit sad - we only did that when there was nowt on telly!

laweaselmys · 28/01/2009 18:09

Lol, missmodular don't think you will have time for that with two babies!!

In the ongoing saga of me and my terrible medical week just saw the GP who has studied my test results and come to the conclusion that I am NOT actually anaemic! That the reason I have been feeling so terrible is work-related stress and that if once Ofstead is over and done with I'm still filling crap (ie stressed) I should come back in and she'll just sign me off for the last two weeks. Which is a bit of a victory actually. I do like knowing well, she's probably right and once Ofstead is over and my coursework is in (did I say I'm also trying to fit in finish a childcare qualification before this baby is born!) I probably will feel much better - but if I don't I can just start my Maternity Leave early and it is not a problem.

I'm feeling much calmer happier and able to cope in this knowledge.

lizziemun · 28/01/2009 18:16

MKG

Dressing gown = bathrobe .

Boobz · 28/01/2009 18:43

Thanks for advice on dressing gown - guess I will take my old sloppy thin one in then!

Another question re useful things to get in before the baby is born for birth and post birth: what kind of creams / lotions and potions should I get? For example, a friend recommended tea tree oil to put on the mat pads to aid healing -- should I also get some arnica? Clary sage... nipple cream... anything else?

Slickbird · 28/01/2009 19:39

Don't worry Boobz No offense taken! Was only playing.

Well I've had one of the most traumatic days of my life. My DH left with DD2 (16months) this morning to take her to my Mums so I could get a rest. I was just doing my DD1's hair so she could go to school, when DH calls and I knew straight away something was wrong.

He had hit black ice at the bottom of our road (between fields), hit a grass verge, gone over the hedge, the car somersaulted in the air and landed in a field (right way up). When he said he'd rolled the car, I said you mean skidded and he said, 'No, Rolled'. CUE: TOTAL AND UTTER PANIC. He kept saying that they were fine and an ambluance was on it's way, but I just slung my coat on, called neighbours and waddled as fast as I could down the road, crying all the way.

I couldn't believe when I saw the car that they had got out not only conscious, but without a scratch. The roof was all buckled and the front windscreen all shattered the whole car was basically a right-off. The ambulance came and took us all to the hosptial to check them over and as it appeared they were ok although, me and DH were in shock (still am) and I'm hoping it doesn't trigger early labour.

I just can't believe how lucky they were and I look at my DD2 and think how she is such 'precious cargo' and I just am getting waves of relief, but tears too as it just doesn't bear thinking about the alternative that so easily could have happened. I'm also so F***g furious that the road was like an icerink and not gritted because we are considered low-priority. My family and neighbours are not low priority to me.

Anyway, by the time the insurance has taken all the excesses off and extra excess for DH being a relatively new driver, we won't even have enough to cover a new car. We'll also have to get a new baby car seat cos that one (although seems fine) has been in an accident. But annoying as that side of things are, I don't care cos they are ok.

Talk about stress.

PS The car was a Subaru Estate and it totally did it's job in protecting them. Can recommend to anyone!

Boobz · 28/01/2009 19:54

Christ Slick! That's awful! But amazing that everyone's ok. Heart goes out to you - no one needs that kind of shock and stress on top of being about to pop.

Hugs to your DH and DD and well done Subaru!

slickbird My God!! What a day so pleased that your DH and DD are both ok ((((Hugs))) to you all xx.

Boobz This nipple cream here is the best i have had its pricey but defo worth it, start using it at soon you start feeding (maybe even before baby is born). Not sure about arnica, clary sage ect. Another good cream to have in is metainium nappy cream, both my girls would poo in their sleep in the early days and both ended up with really sore bottoms , and i found that when they got really sore sudacreme simply wasnt good enough but metainum would clear it up almost instantly!! watch out though if your planning on using reusable nappies as it stains.

laumiere · 28/01/2009 21:01

Glad you and the family are ok Slick, what a horrible shock!

Not sure if it's a help, but you can ask your antenatal/day assessment/labour ward to prescribe you some Cyclagest (basically progesterone pessaries) which calm contracting muscles down. It might help set your mind at rest at least, I've been on and off them a few times this pregnancy!

twocutedarlings · 28/01/2009 21:02

Oh and totally adore your Nursery Boobz tis stunning!!!

Wheelybug · 28/01/2009 21:07

Oh wow Slick - how frightening. Glad all is ok in the end though.

Boobz - Get some Arnica tablets. Start taking them when you go into labour or if you know you're going to be induced, a couple of days before. I started taking them when I was admitted to hospital with dd, ending up with a c-sec 3 days later - I recovered really well and quickly which might not have been down to the arnica but I will do the same this time.

As for essential oils - Clary Sage helps with contractions I think. I have also been recommended Lavender and frankincense for breathing in whilst in labour to keep calm and focussed.

MKG · 28/01/2009 21:09

OMG Slickbird!! I'm so glad everyone is all right.

What kind of carseat did you have as it must have been a good one too.

OP posts:
MKG · 28/01/2009 21:17

Boobz--rapberry leaf tea. You can start drinking it between 36 + 37 weeks. It helps tone the uterus, so would be great to have after the birth also.
Oh and peppermint tea. It is great for digestion. So throw some in your hospital bag in case you need a C-section. It can help with wind that some women say they get afterwards.
Oh and a sports squirt bottle. I don't know if your midwife will give you one, but you can use it to spray yourself with water during that first pee after the birth because it will sting like a mother. It's also good if you tear and have stitches because you can use it to clean after you pee as wiping isn't exactly advisable.

I think I'm the queen of TMI lately.

MKG · 28/01/2009 21:20

rapberry = raspberry (duh)
