Hello everyone

thought i'd start the new thread since i haven't posted on the last one in a couple of days.

I'm well although my patience/tolerance/ability to smile has completely gone out of the window. I don't seem to have any patience with DD (she really is suffering) or DH. i'm moody and sulky. the only thing that seems to calm me down is a nice bath at the end of the day.

Is it all pregnancy hormones and is anyone else feeling the same!?!?!

azure & twiga - meant to say, glad heard/saw fine heartbeats - really reassuring isn't it?

Eulalia · 18/03/2005 17:15

Azure - good news

Twiga - I am 21 weeks tomorrow so a good way ahead of you. I didn't even feel kicks at all with my first till I was 20 weeks and a long time before I saw them. ds was quite small thouugh. I am hoping I don't have a huge baby this time.

kate100 · 18/03/2005 19:04

I had my 20 week scan today, with a very uncooperative little boy? She said she was 90% sure, but DH and I are sure we saw the necessary equipment!! We got to watch the whole scan this time and got a really good view of the baby, so we know it's healthy and it's the right size so I'm very relieved that my illness had no detrimental effect, but then the baby hid and the pictures are rubbish. Never mind, at least we saw the scan, at my last 20 week scan the sonographer hid the screen and right at the end said, 'there's your baby' and then hid it again!!

We have a name for this baby, but can't thinkof any middle names. a friend a work's little boy wanted to call her baby Pinocchio!! Ummm .... maybe not.

I'm 21 weeks tomorrow as they kept my dates the same so my baby is due on the 30th July, right after DS is 2, so we've been out today looking at double buggies. The seats all seem so small for DS, can anyone recommend a good one?

Glad that you are feeling reassured and had good news Azure and Twiga, especially after the sad news that we have had.

colinsmommy · 18/03/2005 19:24

Twiga--so glad you get off work. That sounds absolutely unacceptable.

I just got back from my Dr., and heard the heartbeat, too. We didn't really talk much about the baby. Colin was flirting with everyone in the office, and they just wanted to pay attention to him. I'm kind of disappointed, though, because I found out I won't be getting an ultrasound at my 20 week visit. The office does them at 22 weeks. I know its only a 2 week longer wait, but still . . . .

Miaou · 18/03/2005 19:52

I had my 20 week scan yesterday, all fine! We don't routinely get offered them up here, only if you have a specific reason. We've got birth defects on both side of the family so we got one, which was extra nice for dh because he couldn't come to the first one. Really reassuring to know that the heart is fine, and that there is no sign of cleft lip/palate or club foot.

Nameswise, we have decided on Ishbel Jessica for a girl, and possibly Cameron Hugh for a boy, although I would really like Finnian. We want a celtic first name and English middle name. I'm swithering about the spelling of Ishbel, whether to go for the Gaelic spelling, but then will probably consign poor child to a life of having to spell her name (a problem I have), so not sure!

colinsmommy · 18/03/2005 19:58

I'm kind of in the same boat, Miaou. I love the name Iain, but will probably go with Ian as the spelling, because I know it will be a pain for him (if it is a him)spelling and pronunciation wise to explain when he gets older. I have a very common name with an uncommon spelling, and I got so tired of being "different" and didn't appreciate it until I got much older.

Dazie · 19/03/2005 11:39

Kate100- on the double buggy front we have found a great one which is really popular only trouble is it has to be imported but its such a brilliant design, cheap and it also comes with rain cover all for around 139.00. Its on this web site if anyone else is interested marco4bb.com. They distribute through two become four (a twin web site) but there are a few other companies who distribute it to british standard.

We havent thought of names yet it is very difficult.

I still have a week and a bit to go before our scan but this week will go quickly a ds turns 4 on monday and then its the last few days of the term. I have to make a easter bonnet for him for his parade so that should keep me busy!!

Kiwibump · 19/03/2005 15:30

We had our 20 week scan yesterday and am pleased to say that everything is fine. It was amazing to see it moving around in there. The sonographer was really good at explaining everything.
All in all a big relief - I'd been counting down the days to the appointment for what felt like ages.

Re names - we have a long list of possibilities for both boys and girls. Hadn't thought of any boys names until I had a dream about me having one 2months early and the poor little thing being nameless. Made a list the next day!

Anyone else getting very vivid/odd dreams?

colinsmommy · 19/03/2005 15:58

I am Kiwibump. I have very violent ones where I am beating up other people because they are trying to harm either me or my baby. Or else I have ones where my DH treats me absolutely horribly, and I wake up mad at him. I can't figure these out, because I'm not a violent person (really!) and everyone has been very kind and supportive, and DH is always very helpful and loving, especially when I'm pregnant. I'd almost take my dreams back from my last pregnancy where the baby was born and turned out to be jellyfish or a lizard.

latwinkle1 · 20/03/2005 08:46

Hi there. Sorry to trespass on August mums thread! Message for Beachyhead! I have lost your home telephone No. and am worried that your not getting work Emails. Please contact me or e mail details. X

Azure · 20/03/2005 10:51

Congratulations on the scans all of you. Still another month to go before mine. Saw my MIL yesterday and she was asking all sorts of questions about names, when I'ld go back to work, etc, which seemed strange because DH and I just haven't thought about these things - DH because "he's in denial" (his words, mostly joking), me because of the feeling of not wanting to tempt fate. Hopefully I'm turning the corner and can start thinking about these things properly. It took me ages today to get dressed - my normal clothes are too small, but maternity clothes are too big. Off to H&M later to look at maternity wear - DH has taken DS to see Robots. It's so annoying that shops here don't open until midday on a Sunday - still, gives me time on Mumsnet.

Miaou · 20/03/2005 11:24

I went to H&M in Inverness and looked at the maternity clothes, Azure - and I was really disappointed with their range - very small and samey. Mind you, I am only 5'2" so find it difficult to find things to fit me at the best of times! They had some really nice things in Next maternity though. But no mothercare in Inverness! I was shocked! Will have to do all my shopping online which is a pain as the photos are CRAP - I really wanted to look at things in RL first.

blossom2 · 20/03/2005 12:56

Hi Miaou ... i'm small as well and finding trousers that are not too long is a nightmare. Have ended up shortening anything i buy. I wish Gap would bring out their maternity range in the UK!!!

Anyway ... hows the website going?? can you also recommend a good beginners guide to cross stitch for me - PIL wants ideas for my birthday!!

OP posts:
Azure · 20/03/2005 19:27

I bought a few tops in H&M, but didn't do so well on trousers, which is what I desparately need. I tried on all the existing maternity stuff I've got beforehand and have decided that most of it will do, even though they're not my first choice. I'll hit Blooming Marvellous next weekend. I'm tempted by some trousers from Next.

wilbur · 20/03/2005 19:36

Feeling a bit rough and knackered today, been overdoing it trying to get the garden in shape (currently a mud bath) so the kids can have a good place to play when I'm fat and/or post-natal. Went to bed at 9 last night but that hasn't done the trick. Sad too because a dear friend's 1st attempt at IVF has failed and I know how much she and her dh are longing for a baby. They would be amazing parents too. Sad to hear spacecadet's news too. So unfair.

Right better be off for my bath now.

Spacecadet · 20/03/2005 21:33

i hope you dont mind me gate crashing your thread, just wantedto say thankyou to everyone who had posted on my other thread , im still hurting a lot but trying to concentrate on my 4 beautiful children, this baby was a suprise but we had fallen very much in love with my growing bump.its not fair and im finding it very painful, but I wish everyone on here all the luck in the world with your pregs and I confess that although it will hurt I will sneakily keep an eye out for the birth announcements in aug.im hiding away from the world at the mo so am taking some comfort in mumsnet, good luck to you all.

Twiga · 20/03/2005 22:52

{{{{hugs}}}} Spacecadet, been thinking of you and your family lol x

Will up date properly tomorrow - in-laws visting so been hectic weekend. Miaou according to adverts at the baby show there will be a Mothercare opening in Inverness soon, so keep your eyes peeled. Azure I'm in the same boat clothes wise - normal ones not comfy and mat trousers too big, tried jeans in Mothercare and looked silly - was going to look in Next as that's where I normally get my jeans anyway.

jellybrain · 21/03/2005 09:33

Space Cadet - am thinking of you, what very sad news

Having my scan at 12 noon (was scheduled for last week but had something else on). Fingers crossed all is ok, will let you know re. boy or girl etc later this evening. Have to go now as both DS1 & 2 are off school sick.

beachyhead · 21/03/2005 11:47

So sorry to hear your news, spacecadet

I found some nice maternity stuff in Cache Cache in Bluewater, for you SE based people - a nice pair of work trousers and a linen skirt. Hennes was a mess to get through, but I got a basic pair of black trousers and a couple of T shirts.....

So I feel I have enough now. I'm still in my normal clothes though, for now. I'm only 17 weeks, though, and expecting to pop out any minute....

Miaou · 21/03/2005 12:11

Spacecadet, thank you so much for your lovely message. It must be particularly hard for you to look at this thread just now. Am thinking about you a lot and just hope the pain lessens over time, although obviously August will be a hard month for you. (((((((((((hugs)))))))))))

Blossom - are you after a book, or some advice? If the latter, I can give you all the advice you need (!) - will start a thread for you! If it's a book with techniques in ... I will put my thinking cap on. here's your thread!

Azure · 21/03/2005 12:35

Spacecadet, I'm also thinking about you a lot. It is very, very unfair. Take care of yourself.

jellybrain · 21/03/2005 14:01

Back from the scan, every thing is fine and average size not like the 2 monster boys I already have .

It's a girl! so maybe those daft sites I've been looking at know something after all . The boys are delighted but are adamant we should call her after one of their cousins.

wilbur · 21/03/2005 14:07

Ahhh jellybrain - that's lovely to have a girl to keep your big boys on their toes! Come August your house will be festooned with pink! Glad the scan was good.

Azure · 21/03/2005 16:43

Jellybrain, glad to hear the scan went well and that the boys are delighted it's a girl.

kate100 · 21/03/2005 19:15

Saw the midwife today and she said that everything was fine with the baby, but it went shy again and wriggled away after the briefest listen to its heartbeat. DS was very excited about listening to my tummy and after I got down off the bed he rushed over and gave my tummy a big kiss. Glad that everyone is doing well.

Twiga - I got my maternity jeans from Next, but the adjustable elastic in them is really itchy, not very comfy.
