Hello everyone

thought i'd start the new thread since i haven't posted on the last one in a couple of days.

I'm well although my patience/tolerance/ability to smile has completely gone out of the window. I don't seem to have any patience with DD (she really is suffering) or DH. i'm moody and sulky. the only thing that seems to calm me down is a nice bath at the end of the day.

Is it all pregnancy hormones and is anyone else feeling the same!?!?!

Hi there, hope everyone's doing well. I'm due in the second half of August and haven't met a midwife yet. I had my two scans and blood tests, but haven't actually talked to anyone about anything. I've only seen my doctor once too - to check I was pregnant back in December. Is this normal, or should I be seeing someone by now?

Report
beachyhead · 11/05/2005 15:23

Wow, that is a bit sparse. I thought over 20 weeks, you generally got a monthly check - I'm not really sure what is the norm as I am high risk and the MW have practically moved in with me........where are you based?

Report
Azure · 11/05/2005 15:31

K7 I agree that does sound a little odd - but I know it varies so much by area. Here I had a booking-in appointment at 12 weeks and a second appointment at 20 weeks. I then see my GP at 26, 30 and 34 weeks and the midwife next at 36 weeks. TBH the 12 and 20 week appointments I had were pretty brief and not very helpful, but I do already have a child. I would give the midwife team a call and find out what the procedure is. Have you had the results of your blood tests?

Report
Miaou · 11/05/2005 15:34

Good grief, K7, I'm due at the beginning of August and I'm on to fortnightly appointments now! You should have had at least two monthly appointments by my reckoning. Whereabouts in the country are you? Antenatal care seems to vary dramatically depending on the pressure on resources, sadly. Can you ring the midwife clinic and ask what's going on?

Report
Rochwen · 11/05/2005 17:34

Although my ante-natal care has been more regular (app every six weeks - I'm still on every six weeks now - due beginning of August) they have all been very brief and 'to the point' I still haven't managed to see the same person twice (saw diff 3 consultants, 3 diff midwifes). I find that very dissapointing as I feel I haven't been able to really ask questions or talk about the birth. I so wish I had one m/w from the first appointment until after the birth, that would make me feel so much safer, and it seems that most other countries do that, a couple of friends just had babies in Denmark, Germany and one friend is currently pregnant in Switzerland and they all have their 'own' midwife.

'josey and me are in the highlands (but about 100 miles apart ), where are you?' I'm west of Aberdeen, so a Northener as well ! When are you two due?

Report
Nome · 11/05/2005 17:52

I booked in wth the gp at 7 weeks, saw the midwife at 13 weeks, have had two NHS scans, saw gp a 24 weeks, will see someone at 28 weeks, 32 weeks, consultant at 36 weeks as I am a 'high- risk' delivery, then the appts wind up to fever pitch from 38 weeks by going weekly. This is my second pg, so for a first pg your appts sound a bit sketchy Rochwen.

I'm in Surrey, at Epsom. Haven't had the results of any tests - just a 'we'll call you if there's a problem'. But today I had to call to find out if I had immunity to chickenpox - never had it, found the guy I sit with at work has been carrying it for the past few days. When I called the hospital, the sister I spoke to did sound surprised that no one had told me I was immune, but then she had to hurry off before I could ask her anything else! I called my doctor's surgery and they just said the hospital should be allocating me a midwife at some point. I think I'll give them a call. I just don't want to sound like a fussy first-timer (which I am, of course!).

Report
beachyhead · 11/05/2005 18:06

Don't worry about sounding fussy - I think you must have just slipped through the net somewhere and they will probably be a bit embarrassed when they finally see you.......Good luck with your phoning - I'd go to the hospital direct and also to the GP and see who comes up trumps first!!!!!

I am much more tired now (25 weeks on Sat) and last weekend had a complete sleep out on Sat afternoon (I had just managed a b'day party for my 8 year old and 7 of her friends). A case of having to listen to my body and sleep for a bit.....
only 7 more weeks at work left - ha ha.......

still haven't got a name, pram, anything really....will start shopping and nesting during July, I think.....

Rochwen, where abouts west of Aberdeen are you? I'm in Aberdeen itself and Eulalia is not far out of Aberdeen. Looks like quite a bunch of us up North !

The big sort out has started in our house today - have just about completely cleared our big downstairs cupboard ready to paint and put carpet into, need to rationalise the contents before piling everything back in, want to leave room for a mini timble dryer ready for the whole cloth nappy thing. Furniture for other rooms is now all ordered, just have to sort out carpets, curtains and a plaster. Dreading looking in the loft as is full of junk - reassuring thing being most of it can probably go to the skip so hoping won't be a long job.

Work finally called yesterday but only to tell me they were still in the process of sorting things and would phone today. Phoned today and you guessed it, will phone tomorrow as still not got themselves organised . Am resisting the urge to go back to gp to get fully signed off, will wait until tomorrow as they are meant to phone by 10am and see what they say.

Good to see everyone keeping well. K7 def chase up your midwife team etc and be fussy if you need to be !!!

k7 thats bad you should have been seen by now, i had to make my own appointment with the local MW team which are with my local GP and have a weekly clinic at the moment its every 4 weeks unless i want to see them about something, and dont go back to the hospital to see consultant till 36 weeks.didnt even see him at 12weeks though.

rochwen - im the furthest up about 30mins North of Inverness. Im due on the 27th August but looks like getting early CS. Which hospital will you go to?

I can't believe how many augusties are in Scotland - there will be a uniform giant thud during August as all the bonny babies arrive.....

Report
Rochwen · 11/05/2005 20:48

'I can't believe how many augusties are in Scotland.' Oh but I can, we have to get them out while it's warm (if it gets warm this August, lol).

'Rochwen, where abouts west of Aberdeen are you?' I live on a farm near Dunecht.

'Which hospital will you go to?' I have to go to the ARI unfortunately, as it's very likely that I'll need a c/s. I'd much rather have gone to the small local hospital in Aboyne though.

Hi folks, I'm off to aquanatal classes in a bit. We get to use the posh hotel pool and get free fluffy towels, shampoo, moisturiser etc ... so nice to be pampered! Everyone will be ever so jealous that I got to see our friend's baby before them!

Rochwen, I am actually due on 31 July, but started out on the August thread as my original date was 4th August. So it's possible that I could be one of the first from this thread! It will be my third.

Incidentally, was it you josey who was asking about the bp rate=sex scenario? In theory it's supposed to be lower for a boy (130 ish)and higher for a girl(140-150ish), but so far I have had a 130 reading and a 145 reading, so I've no idea! I asked the midwife if there really was a correlation, but she said that the heartrate depends more on what the baby is doing - ie sleeping, moving etc - so no, it's not an indicator of the sex!

K7, I think it's time to make a nuisance of yourself. I've had a bokkiing in appt at 8 weeks, a home visit at 15 weeks and MW appts at 22 and 26 weeks and I go again on monday when I'll be 29 weeks and scans and bloods as well. Start making a fuss, this happened to a friend of mine, who just seemed to have ben missed out by the system, she even had to arrange her own triple test and if she hadn't have made a fuss she wouldn't have been seen. Especially important, as like you she wanted a section and needed to arrange it,. Hope you get it sorted, good luck.

Consultant was useless, he may as well have come out and said, 'we don't do pregnant bones love, sorry'. I knew more about what was wrong woth me than he did!! And he couldn't count ... he asked me how many weeks I was and then asked to see me at the end of July, when I pited out that I may not have had the baby by then he seemed surprised!! Hopeless, still at least he didn't refer me and my physio is brill, so there's something. Oh and he did rule out a slipped disc, so whatever I have is definitely pregnacy related and not likely to hang around afterwards I've been having deep muscle masssage from the physio on my bum, do you think DH would do the same for me?

Report
josey · 12/05/2005 10:28

kate100 glad you at least got the slipped disc ruled out, men should be barred from looking after pg women they dont have a clue, i asked my MW re my consultant and was told he will listen to what i have to say and act on that, so sounds like i make the medical decisions and he gets paid for it - hehe tell DH it is a must that he massages your butt if he expects to ever get his hands on it again
oh maiou that sounds lovely i havent got round to going to mine yet.
haha beachyhead we are getting them out before it snows and we can make the hospital, DS was born in December and it started snowing straight after he was born so i hardly got any visitors.
Thanks for the heart rate thing was just interested was told it fell between the 140 -150.

KMS · 12/05/2005 11:15

Josey/miaow - I thought the heart rate thingy was under 150 for a boy and over for a girl. My boys were both bang on 150 most of the time so had no idea! this one is 160 so may be a girl? who knows??

Work have finally got themselves organised, am now on day shifts from Saturday and won't finish any later than 8pm when on shift from now on - most finishes are nearer tea time though which is great! Kinda releived as I wanted to finish work on a positive note rather than just being signed off. Things are always more volitile in the evenings so hopefully I shouldn't have too many things to deal with with the new shift arrangements.

Hi everyone

have been watching the thread but not posting as things have been a bit hectic with ds and his preschool which sadly he has now left. The next few months are going to be very tiring with the growing bump a 15 month old and now ds who is 4 he will be home until reception class in sept.

I have now declined the anti D injection as dh has found out he is also rhesus negative, I will still have a blood test to check my levels but thats one less needle!!

Leahbump-dd started walking about two weeks ago and she has just turned 15 months she does it so well Im sure she was doing it when I wasnt looking!!

Lovely to hear updates from everyone. Twiga, I'm glad work has finally sorted itself out. I don't envy those of you with 15 month-old children as well - at least DS at 3.8 is more self-sufficient. It's just as well we hadn't decorated the nursery yet. I got home at 11pm last night (mum's night out from DS's preschool) to find DH mopping up the results of a leak from our bathroom directly above, and the wallpaper on one wall sodden and hanging off. The plumber has been today and needs a part, so it'll be next week before we can use the bathroom properly again. We got to bed at around midnight and DS woke up at 5.15am, bouncing into our room to declare it was morning - this is despite the black-out curtain linings we have in his room. Consequently I feel pretty shattered today (and slightly grubby as DH turned the water off until the plumber came, by which time I was at work).

I'd heard that boys swoosh and girls gallop, with regard to heartbeats.

Azure what a nightmare, poor you. Do you think toddlers know when you need more sleep and get up extra early? I'm sure mine does.

Really pleased for you Twiga

I realised today that i'm in my last trimester, 29 weeks on saturday, does that give you any hope leahbump? I'd been so busy with sorting out my back I hadn't realised.

Glad to hear work has gotten it together, Twiga.

K7, do what everyone else said and make a nuisance of yourself until you are seen. That is absolutely ridiculous.

Leahbump, I've got one that never sleeps anytime I stop moving. It is especially bad between about 10 pm and midnight, and 3 am and 5:30 am. DH slept in a different bed last night after being so tired of me being up all night.

I didn't realize that so many of us had under 2's. I know Kate's DS is really close in age to mine, but forgot about other people's children.

One of my friends just gave birth, and another one is due late next week. I can't wait for her to go, because it is my turn next, I will have had to wait for 5 other people to give birth before I did. I realize it is still quite a ways off, but there's something psychologically pleasing about knowing it will be my turn next.

I had a phonecall from my db this evening - he and my sil are expecting a baby, probably in Nov/Dec but they are going for a dating scan in a few days. I am SO pleased for them - I think they will make great parents! My dds were really thrilled about having another cousin too.

lol about the heartrate/sex - it's a bit like trying to guess what your christmas present is going to be without peeking in the wrapping!

Anyone else whose not having their first who hasn't got under 2's? (Is that too many double negatives?) - ie am I the only one insane enough to have another when my youngest is 6.5?
