detsy · 21/11/2008 22:33

I'm off to buy a coat as mine is only just able to zip it up today..

agooboo · 21/11/2008 22:33

Will be 14 tomorrow. I was surprised when I got an appointment through tbh having been given a date at 9 weeks. maybe I should ring - there is a number on the letter and says to ring with any questions. I can see why they won't do it again but you'd have thought they would have realised before sending appointment times out.

detsy · 21/11/2008 22:34

OH Sorry DP is moaning abut my lack of grammar but I'm sure you knew what I meant!

EmmalinaC · 21/11/2008 22:37

agooboo I would ring and make a fuss. I don't think it would be unreasonable to tell then that you're felling anxious and would like to be reassured.

agooboo · 21/11/2008 22:37

Well done detsy a very good find! They have loads of stuff.

EmmalinaC · 21/11/2008 22:39

That site looks great detsy.

I got my Jojo short jeans delivered today and they're great. Also ordered a lovely cardie but it completely swamps me so will have to go back - it's nearly down to my knees!

agooboo · 21/11/2008 22:40

EmmalinaC It's worth a shot, I'll give them a call, probably have to be monday now.

detsy · 21/11/2008 22:46

Hi emma - i had exactly the same prob with JOJo stuff thats why I wondered how you would get on - think all their models must be gorilla like with their arms

agooboo - not surprised that they won't scan you after 9 week scan is the same in this region as well. I'm pretty certain there is a scan centre in Leeds as my mate went to Leeds for NT scan with twins - I'll have a quick look and see if I can find out the name of the place.

detsy · 21/11/2008 22:46

Oh just bought coat too - woo hoo

detsy · 21/11/2008 22:54

Agoo Leeds Screening Centre - put it in google, gets good reviews but web site is awful - guess you can call them but they seem to do all sorts of scans so am sure they would do it for you

Jennster · 21/11/2008 23:01

Wow they do 34inch jeans!

I was scanned early at 9 weeks last pg because I had no way of dating as was still bf and no period, and was told too that I wouldn't get another. It's amazing the difference in size in 4 weeks.

Momino · 21/11/2008 23:09

Hi ladies. i've just looked through 71 pages of jumpers on ebay. whew. took hours but i'm sat in front of telly and fire so just passing time.

could really use a coat as well. am 17 weeks today and now have trouble zipping up my coat.

detsy · 21/11/2008 23:20

I think you must have all done the sensible thing and gone to bed! I'm going to make last bottle of the night and follow suite I think.

momi good coats on the site I found!

SpangleMaker · 21/11/2008 23:20

agooboo my hospital was the same - went for scan at 9w because of bleeding and they cancelled the 12w scan. It's worth going for a private scan - it was only 2 and a half weeks later when we went for the nuchal and I was amazed by the difference, went from a blobby thing to a proper little baby!

Right off to look at detsy's recommendation....

EmmalinaC · 22/11/2008 09:58

Morning all!

detsy I've got a black lycra wrap top thing from Jojo that is the best maternity wear I've ever bought (so have bought another one!) but apart from that and the short jeans, you're right - God knows how tall their models are!

agooboo I only suggested you check with the hospital as I had an early scan because of painful scar tissue and was still able to keep my 12 week appointment. Worth a try.

Off to walk the dog and feed the ducks now. Hope you're all having a lovely weekend so far!

FiKelly · 22/11/2008 10:27

Not been on for a couple of days and just been catching up. sorry to hear that it sounds like a lot of us have had a rotten end to the week.

I've no major probs just full of a horrendous cold... which DS seems to have too. That has meant i feel shattered, cold/shivery, sore head, sore throat and nose streaming. A single no kids friend of mine said a few duvet and crappy telly days should do the trick... and it would have be possible In the old days before DS So struggling a bit with keeping up with grissly DS who must have some of the same symptoms as me but definitely has more energy. I think DP is coming down with it too so I really hope to be feeling better before what will no doubt be man flu when he gets it...

DS was up just once last night so not too bad and he's just a bit out of sorts this morning. Thank goodness calpol seems to be helping him

Sorry for the moan... off to make a hot lemon and honey (dreams wistfully of a hot toddy).

agooboo · 22/11/2008 10:41

thanks detsy I'll give them a call today.

It's freezing here but sunny. Have no plans today apart from waiting for Sainsbury's delivery this aft. DH gone away to newcastle for weekend with 'the lads' so ordered a couple of pastry goodies to keep me and DSs happy tonight whilst watching XFactor.

llareggub · 22/11/2008 10:43

I've posted this elsewhere, but I'm in the middle of re-doing my menu plans around the low GI diet, following my gestational diabetes diagnosis. Can anyone give me any suggestions for low GI meals and snacks? Thanks!

FiKelly · 22/11/2008 11:09

llareggub i did the low gi diet on purpose to lose some of DS baby weight before trying for #2. DH did it with me and it's stuck... mainly as we liked the food anyway

here are some of the sites i book marked..
www.the-gi-diet.org/recipes/
www.taste.com.au/recipes/collections/low+gi
www.glycemicindex.com/
recipes.prevention.com/RecipeSearch/LowGI-Recipes.aspx

When trying to work out what to eat... think wholegrain and other slow digesting foods that you can see the 'bits' in. Eg oatcakes rather than rich tea biscuits, fruit loaf rather than cake, apples rather than peaches. The more you have to chew foods the better... al-dente pasta rather than soft over boiled etc. I bought a book... The low GI diet by Dr Jennie Brand-Miller & can recommend it (it has some recipes too). Don't bother with the companion shopping guide though as that was pants!

What sort of things are you in the mood for eating and I'll have a go at suggesting some stuff to add to make it a more Low gi version?!

FiKelly · 22/11/2008 11:25

BTW all fruit is good... just some fruits are really low and other medium. things like watermelon and pawpaw are higher but still not as bad as refined stuff.

If you're craving potatoes like me then sweey potato is the alternative. Most potatoes are high gi (above 70) eg my book says desiree potato peeled boiled for 35 mins is 101... whereas sweet potato baked is 46. new potato unpeeled boiled for 20 mins is 78.

Low gi is anything 55 or less, moderate GI is 56-69, high GI is 70 & over

FiKelly · 22/11/2008 11:26

oops typo... meant sweet potato!

llareggub · 22/11/2008 11:32

Thanks FiKelly. I'm trying to plan a menu for the next few weeks so I don't have to think about it too much, so your links are fab, thank you so much. I have followed it before, but it was a long, long time ago now! I've got a lot of revision to do.

I slipped up and had Shreddies for breakfast, and was surprised at my high sugar reading an hour after. Of course, there is quite a bit of hidden sugar in the processed cereal so I should have thought a bit harder about it! Porridge tomorrow, I think!

I've ordered some cookbooks from Amazon, so I should be OK in a couple of days. I just want to make sure we can all eat the same things, and I don't end up on insulin.

Thanks again. PS, I have major salt and vinegar crisp cravings. I bet you can't low GI that!

divedaisy · 22/11/2008 11:38

Ilareggub here is a link for low GI recipies/menus - some sound really lovely, may have a go at some myself!!

agooboo - that doesn't sound right to me. I had a scan at 8 weeks, and although I booked a private NT scan on 4th Nov, I had my 12 week 'booking in' at the hospital and my Consutlant scaned me on 5th Nov, when I should have been around 12 weeks, but I measured 13+6!! You shouldn't have to pay for a scan that you should be entitled to. Id turn up on the day anyway and pretend not to know any different!!!

At least this morning I'm feeling better - not too much coughing last night, so had a better sleep.

Jael - pity about your DH's allergy to codeine. I can understand your GP not wanting to refer you to another consultant - by the time the referral would come through you'd have seen your own consultant already. Speak to your consultant about an alternative painkiller - paracetamol didn't touch my pain last time, and you are getting this really early - poor you xx. Ask about the support belt and referral to physio.

AHHHHHHH I'M BORED!! I'm sitting in my shop and NOONE has come in yet! I'm trying to find inspiration for my christmas shopping on line, but since everyone in my family doesn't need anything it's really hard! I told my mum yesterday that I was going to imortilise her as an old goat for an Ethiopian family through Oxfam! She wasn't too chuffed by that! I thought it was funny - but seriously though why not??
