Dozymare · 24/10/2008 07:04

tell me about it yorky I get very very very irriated by Sid and the Andy doing their Autumn dance/rap and when they do the numbers....they think they are sooooooo cool but really look like absolute twats!

I can see them both practasing in the mirror and thinking "I am da bomb"

Shudder......

mum2becks · 24/10/2008 07:08

morning everyone! Sorry to hear about little Merry hope he is well soon!!

Looks like a lot of us had sleepless nights last night looking at the times of the messages I have been up since just after 6am with DD and dozy we have also just watched teletubbies

vbab glad to hear everything is ok even though you are a little dissapointed that it wasnt the start of labour just yet!! A bit worrying to hear hospital was full which hospital are you going to as know you are quite near me?

mum2becks · 24/10/2008 07:48

I agree yorky and dozy I couldnt cope with 'carrie & david' after the teletubbies this early in the morning, thats when I turned to MN instead!!!

cricri · 24/10/2008 07:54

Sorry to hear about little boy Merry Hope everything is OK.
Vbab Glad you got yourself checked out but at the hospital being so full! Let's hope it's not like that when you go into labour for real. Hope you managed to get a good night's sleep.
I had my first bad night's sleep last night - I can't really complain having got this far and been OK. Wish I'd known there were so many of you up during the night - I'd have turned on the computer
Hope we all have better Fridays although the weather is miserable here!

LadyBuzz · 24/10/2008 08:36

Morning all,
Hugs to Merry and her family, hope little one is better soon.
Dozy Pinky is i hospital (Wed I think) she posted briefly before she went. She was having a section this week, I'm guessing its today as we didn't hear anything yesterday!
Lacks I'm not excited about the section as such more getting the baby out - I would be very very happy if I went into labour before the date but if the head is as big as MW suggests I might change my mind
DS lay in ntil 8 this morning bless him and is currently watching the Bobinogs but his very favourite is Mr Tumble every time and always has been!
Vbab glad everything is OK.

vbab78 · 24/10/2008 08:41

ruth - My hospital is Rotherham, near Whiston x roads. Know it?

Group B Strep. Found by random hospital (special test) when I had water infection. I think it is some sort of bacteria that a woman can have "down there" at any point in life and is harmless. But if at birth baby contracts it can make the baby anything from really ill to WORST CASE. The midwife said to me it could cause meningitis in baby.

As a preventative measure the mum needs to try to get 4hrs (to allow cross to baby through placenta) of antibiotics by drip whilst in labour into her before baby delivered to help TRY to protect baby. If you dont get 4hrs worth then baby when born would get the drip after born and need to stop in for 3-5 days. But I think the antibiotics are optional I think.

Was also told that in 1st timers it is normally possible to get the 4hrs but in 2nd+ timers things are normally quicker so they dont manage the full 4hrs. Even though the antibiotics are optional I would have them because if something BAD did happen and I hadnt tried everything I would never forgive myself. Even though good chance it would end up baby having them and having to stop in for few days which I really do not want.

Cheery stuff for a morning ...

GBS can come and go but the midwife said once you have been known to have it they would recommend the antibiotics anyway.

TO ALL YOU LADIES WHO KNOW BETTER ABOUT GBS this is only my limited interpretation of what I was told by the midwife last night.

Stupid thing is as GBS is not tested for as standard I may have had it with my DS and been none the wiser.

vbab78 · 24/10/2008 08:52

ruth - I'm going for waxing at a place very close to where I live at Wickersley (Tanyard). Know it? I would love it to have been at Spa1877 . Only been a couple of times but I love that place and intend on treating myself to a spa day at the latest for my birthday in Feb. The roman bath spa is amazing and not expensive either unless treatments added.

Maybe us North/Middle ladies could go there rather than Meadowhall? Then lunch somewhere ... www.spa1877.com/spa.php?cat=52

Just that obviously in pregnancy cant do spa stuff.

LadyBuzz · 24/10/2008 08:58

Vbab that looks lush, I wish I was there now. I love a good Spa day, there is a fab one up here on the edge of the lake district which is a lovely treat but the facilities aren't a patch on them its more about the treatments.which is great if you can afford to splash out on them!

MonkeyMargot · 24/10/2008 09:12

Morning all (for second time)!
I had the weirdest dream when I went back to bed - I dreamt that I was on MN, and CriCri announced at 5am this morning that labour had started!! I see though that she has already posted and my Mystic Meg powers seemed to have failed me....ah well!
MerryM sounded fairly OK on her texts - but did say it's sad to see baby boy on drip etc. Baby girl feeding well though. Hope they are all home soon.
Any more news from Obs on names etc??

ceebee74 · 24/10/2008 09:31

Morning all - was just checking in to see if there was any more news.....

Vbab glad everything is ok but I can imagine that you are a little disappointed if you have got yourself ready to be in labour - it will happen in due course.

I can't believe how many of you were up in the middle of the night - me too! DS woke up playing his music at about 5am - he went back to sleep of course but I laid there wide awake for an hour until my alarm went off at 6 (OK, I know it isn't that bad compared to the rest of you )

Saurus we used a beanbag for DS to sleep on downstairs once he had outgrown his moses basket - they are definitely useful and he always seemed very comfortable on it.

Right, this was just a quick message as it is my last day at work (still not sunk in yet) and I have stupidly left myself far too much to do on my last day instead of being able to wind down....that will teach me to talk too much instead of working I guess

sparkletoes · 24/10/2008 09:32

Morning all!

First of all, enjoy your last days at work Ceebee and Monkey!!

Funny that you should say your DCs hated tummy time Daisy, my DS also hated it! Know some people who became positively obsessed by it (mainly BIL) but I haven't noticed any difference in their child's development. If baby likes it then no harm but if my LO also hates it I am not bothered, plenty other things you can do for exercise.

Thoughts are with Merry and family this morning...

Pinkali37 · 24/10/2008 09:55

Morning All,

VBAB Am very pleased you got sorted and sounds like the MW was lovely! I understand what you mean when you say you are slightly disappointed about not being in labour, ALAS, one thing for sure, it wil happen soon!

Sauraus What were you doing up at that time? Saying that, I was awake just not in the office typing.

QUESTION: I am 37 weeks today. IS it normal for movements not to be as frequent? My raspberry leaf tablets arrived today and also I have hired a tens machine (hope it works after Postman dropped it in front of me).

LadyBuzz · 24/10/2008 10:04

Pinkali the movements change slightly and I don't think you feel them as much, Baby hasn't got as much room and wriggles more then kicks so I would say yes this is normal.
What is it with Postmen at the moment.
Sparkle & Daisy my DS hated tummy time too and agin doesn't seem any worse the wear for it. He was sitting uo himself by 4 1/2 months.

ceebee74 · 24/10/2008 10:21

Ooh yes Monkey you have a good last day aswell

Tummy time my DS positively loved it. He was constantly trying to roll over from his back to his front from very early days and finally mastered it at 4 months (he never really ever went the other way which is more normal ). Once he had got the hang of it, he was hardly ever on his back as he would always roll over onto his tummy - he started commando crawling at 7 months which I assume was because he spent so much time on his tummy, it became a natural development to drag himself across the floor - he didn't crawl properly until about 11 months! I guess all babies are different

MonkeyMargot · 24/10/2008 10:22

What is tummy time please?
Pinkali be careful with your TENS machine when you test it. I gave the control panel to my DH who found it hilarious to ramp it up to the top setting with no warning so I leapt up like whirling dervish. It feels REALLY weird...

LackaDAISYcal · 24/10/2008 10:22

Rutho, I hope you're feeling better this morning; I hope you are back in bed catching up on some lost sleep.

Was going to say you too MonkeyM, but last day or not, that might be construed as taking the piss a bit much if you just curled up under your desk and slept!

Another really restless night for DD here. Me on the other hand have had a few really good nights. Nothing much more on the BH and goop here; looks like virgil is settling in for the long houl.

vbab, don't ever feel like you are wasting the AN ward's time. If it had been your waters you would have needed to be induced sooner than later if you hadn't gone into labour spontaneously. when I had a few false alarms with DD they told me it;s better that you go and get checked out rather than risking anything happening with the baby. The whole group B strep thing really worries me; it isn't routinely tested for (afaik, I've nver been tested in three pregnancies) but seems very, very common and can be dangerous. that seems like a no brainer to me and I can't imagine that a swab done at 36 weeks for every woman is going to be that costly. Maybe a new MN campaign is called for?

also vbab; it's my 40th in Feb and I was looking for something a bit nice...maybe we could meet up for a day of pampering? Lunch there looks nice though, but how would they feel about a gaggle of squawking babies as well?

I love quiet mornings on the sofa. also love the middle of the night feeds with a newborn when it feels like it's just the two of you awake in the whole world. I've always had summer babies before though; I might feel differently in the middle of winter when I'm freezing my tits off .

Who is pinky's text buddy? she said she was going in for her section today, so hopefully there will be some news later.
wishing baby merryM good vibes today......and a name

off to catch up on my scrabble games and then shower and a bit more housework.

LackaDAISYcal · 24/10/2008 10:26

monkeyM...I linked a good article about tummy time last night; basically letting them spend time on their tummies to encourage strong spinal development and from that the ability to crawl. since the back to sleep campaign babies now spend too much time flat on thier backs, to the detriment of spinal development some think.

Personally I think it's just another thing to encourage you to spend money on, like unnecessary toys

UPDATE on work situation... We are getting a temp in starting next thursday so the office will now be covered all week so I may be able to have a week or so off before Tarquin arrives! YIPPEE..

DH has surprised me next weekend.. OH BLESS HIM.. he has booked a romantic ( yeah)weekend away. Staying in a lovely hotel called ermm The Black Swan in Helmsley. Starting off with lunch on Friday (I GET A DAY OFF YIPPEE) in leeds, some shopping, then up to Helmsley, then lunch out on Saturday at Tee Star in Haerome (sp) (it's got those start thingys that all the chefs want ) and then a special pregnancy massage in the hotels spa thingy. I am sooo excited... I was starting to feel quite down. You watch, i'll go into labour on the Thursday! He did make me laugh because he specifically asked them if the deposit was refundable or if we have to cancel last minute we can change the dates. I wonder how pleased a posh hotel would be if my waters broke on their bed? Might get free trips away for life OR a very expensive bill!!!!!

sorry for rattling the above off but I am just so excited, it's something else to look forward to.

Pinkali37 · 24/10/2008 10:34

Like a child my spelling was rubbish on last post with all the excitement. It is the Star Inn and they are Stars not starts.

cricri · 24/10/2008 10:38

MM Your premonition wasn't right this morning but hopefully it won't be long now My gran woke up in the middle of the night earlier this week and she thought I was in labour then too! Hopefully LO will take the hint with all these vibes and start moving!
Group B strep - I tested positive last pg for it (before mc) but this time all my tests have been negative. Our NCT teacher did say that the infection could come and go from one day to the next. My mw is happy to let me go for a hb as I haven't tested positive this time around, thank goodness. The GBS support website is here and has lots of useful info. I'm also a member of the
There was a petition about testing for all women in pregnancy on the Downing Street website earlier this year (see details on GBS support website under News) The government rejected the call to test all women in pregnancy for various reasons (details online), none of which sounded very valid to me. More a case of cost I would think.
I've not had any more news from Obs Perhaps Choc has, or Dozy who was her text buddy? Hope everything is OK anyway. I'll be looking out for news from Pinky too

cricri · 24/10/2008 10:40

Pinkali X-posts - what a lovely treat for you! I've heard of the Star Inn and it's meant to be very good. You'll have a great time - keep that baby in until afterwards!
Good news on the work situation too - you need some time to wind down. I'm really enjoying my maternity leave, although I did do a couple of hours work yesterday because a client was desperate.

cricri · 24/10/2008 10:42

In my post about GBS I meant to add that I am a member of a GBS group on FB and was looking for the exact name but I can't actually find the link to it on my profile. Nor can I find any link to our group on FB either

LadyBuzz · 24/10/2008 10:42

Pinkali that sounds lovely enjoy it while you can.
daisy that article is very interesting, It amazes me how they can generalise for ALL babies. DS hated being on his front and all he did was turn his face into the carpet and cry - which of course panicked me that he couldn't breathe and I wasn't happy to leae him like that. He didn't roll over until he was 10 months or so or crawl until 11 months but was walking dead on 1 year. He always had amazing nck strength and loved to look around! I can see the point about them not being in the same position al the time but I doubt there are many mothers that leave their babies in the same place all the time!
To all the first timers you should not ever compare your child to someone elses as they al develop at very different rates and you don't need extra things to worry about easier said then done

sparkletoes · 24/10/2008 10:44

I am also amazed they don't routinely check for Strep B especially when it can be so dangerous. I have never even had a MW mention it to me and only heard about it from baby programs on Sky and it was in the news once..

Just checked my DS development record after what you just said Ceebs, my DS started the wounded solidier crawl at 9-10 months but was also proper crawling by 11 mnths. That was with no real emphasis on tummy time. Take from that what you will!!

I know my B&SIL didn't want their LO to get a bald bit at back of its head from too much lying on back

Pinkali I am 37 weeks today as well! Don't be surprised if your RLT tablets cause you some cramps at first (they did to me but it should ease off as you get used to them, I started with one a day building up to 3 over 3 weeks - just my experience tho from what I researched about it!).

sparkletoes · 24/10/2008 10:59

Woah took too long to post and loads have appeared since!

Pinkali I am so pleased for you! That is excellent news, now you can finally relax a bit - I was getting v concerned for you! Yay to your DH!

Thanks for posting that link about GBS Cricri I will also check that out..

Very good advice LadyBuzz the reason babies don't come with a manual is cos they are all different!
