Bouncy chairs not a waste of money - take it from a Yorky tight wad! babies seem to calm quickly in the vibrating ones but I don't think its necessary, DS got winnie the pooh one from ebay which rocks rather than bounces and can lie flat, he spent ages in it.

Best wishes to merry and her little boy, hope he is better soon

Dozymare · 23/10/2008 19:44

for Merry and her minimarigold boy....please, please send her my love as well..I know what it is like to have a LO in special care after birth and it is not a nice experience.

rutho the bouncy chairs are great - if only to give your arms a break as you don't want a baby lying flat all the time - I have a mamas and papas £30 that has been used with both boys and will be for for this LO as well.....really are invaluable. I also love my BUMBO for when they are older!

Glad you got your waxing done - did you go for a hollywood ?? If so, bet your DH can't wait to get you into bed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ceebee74 · 23/10/2008 19:49

Ooh yes Bumbos are fab (to you first-timers, Dozy really is introducing you to a whole new vocab today!!)

Yorky · 23/10/2008 20:00

Bouncy chair over bumbo any day, especially if you get one with adjustable seat positions.
DS hated bumbo, and being in washable nappies didn't look comfy in it from quite early.
Prop up with cushions if they want to watch you
Blanket on the floor if in doubt, don't forget tummy time

Dozymare · 23/10/2008 20:10

hmmm...what else can we share with the 1st timers

Bumbo
Ninky Nonk
ickle Pickle
Pinky Ponk
Vibrating chairs
breast milk storage bags

sparkletoes · 23/10/2008 20:32

Hope babyboy Merry is ok, get well vibes...

Am LOL at the ITNG references however I think that it would be Macca Packa's UFF-UFF that would be the ladybits reference...

misdee · 23/10/2008 20:36

iggle piggle
harhoos
wattingers
pontypines
tombliboos

but i want a drink on the pinkyponk then go for a ride on the ninkynonk

sparkletoes · 23/10/2008 20:40

Something Special is referred to as Justin Special by my DS!

The uber annoying Upsy Daisy!

sparkletoes · 23/10/2008 20:40

LOL Misdee!

LackaDAISYcal · 23/10/2008 20:44

Does anyone else think it's very cringey when Derek Jacobi gets all excited about the ninky nonk. All those years with the RSC and what is he reduced to? Getting over excited on a kiddies TV programme.

and on the subject, did anyone see the thread about the Pontypines? something along the lines of "What would Mr Pontypine do if Mrs Pontypine popped out a purple baby?" . and how did they manage to have all those children whilst co-sleeping with the lot of 'em? The mind boggles!!

upsydaisy is a bit free and easy fopr my liking.

i adore makka pakka and his stone obsession.

Rutho - yep, those are the ones, glad you've got 'em ready!!!

My work mate (DS is now 14 weeks) bought and recommended the DooMoo, it's really soft and, unlike a normal beanbag, you can't feel any of the 'beans'.

Loving the ITNG references - who makes this stuff up?!!!!!

Dozy hmm... Storage bags? Are they not our boobs?!!!!

to hear about Merry's boy, my thoughts and prayers are with the whole family.

MummyNic · 23/10/2008 21:43

Oh, Yorky you've reminded me - when do you start tummy time? I've seen lots of references to it but no idea when to start it.

LackaDAISYcal · 23/10/2008 21:52

where are all the scrabblers? I have seven games on the go and no-one to play with

I'm having to talk to DH

LackaDAISYcal · 23/10/2008 21:57

mummynic, most babies can hold their heads up a bit from birth so you can start with a minute or so here and there from quite young, but I'd say wait till about 6-8 weeks for tummy time. My two have always hated it, so I've never really done it. DD crawled at 6 months and DS at 8.5.....in spite of what the experts say

MummyNic · 23/10/2008 22:20

Thanks Lacks, an interesting read - it does say that babies catch up even if you don't do it. I'll give it a go and see how he gets on but won't stress if he hates it!!!

LackaDAISYcal · 23/10/2008 22:26

Mine always got much more out of being across my knee (on a cushion) having their backs rubbed rather than playing with toys, and cuddling them into your shoulder gives them lots of opportunity to have a wee look round. You can buy all these toys and stuff now that are specifically made for tummy time, but they are a bit of a rip off imo.

Will now go and catch up.
Yeah to obs though got that from the previous one. 7llbs somethin' That ^is a good weight for 36 weeks ish.I am so rubbish and vague.

vbab78 · 23/10/2008 23:21

merry - love and hugs for you and your boy. Hope he better soon.

rutho - glad to hear waxing isnt too bad. I've got my appointment on Sat morn (EEK) as had to reschedule.

UPDATE - Firstly BIG THANKS to lacks for being there for me last night and advising. I saw the midwife this PM for 38wk check ... baby seems fine, still back to back, measuring now what I should be or slightly less rather than 1wk ahead like have been so far, my blood pressure and everything fine. Well I mentioned my "wet" feelings and showed the midwife the pad. After going through the same story and demonstration with 3 other midwives they phoned the antenatal section of my hospital to send me in to be checked as not sure whether waters or not.

Well the antenatal had shut their doors as too busy and the labour ward was so packed they said can I come down in a few hours once I have sorted out DS and so on when they can try to check me out. I understood of course but thought WHAT IF I WAS IN LABOUR?!

I waited for DH to get back from London and we went at 8pm. DH bless him after meetings all day then driving back was so exhausted. At some cross roads near the hospital he drove up the wrong lane, so facing on coming traffic, I nearly had the baby there.

I was eventually checked out after an hour or so due to the labour ward still being packed. I of course didnt mind as I know I am not a priority. But didnt like being laid there hearing everything when not in labour yourself IUSWIM. Well I feel stupid and like I have wasted their valuable time as apparently just discharge NOT waters and everything well.

The midwife (and other staff) could not have been nicer and told me not to be silly about getting checked. She stressed that especially as having GBS I need to get things checked sooner because of possible risk of infection. She also took time to explain GBS and the antibiotics to me. Lovely lady (and a senior midwife) ... hope I get her when I am in labour.

Felt a little disappointed to not be in labour too. Just felt I was ready mentally but physically I was exhausted.

Going to bed soon after a cuppa.

ruthosaurus · 24/10/2008 02:09

Hi Vbab - are you okay now? Know what you mean about wanting to be in labour. What is GBS (I keep think George Bernard Shaw as did English at uni...). Also, was that Jessops you went to cos if so, YIKES - they were full to bursting last month too when I got taken in - am getting worried now. What IS going on in Sheffield - have they been putting something in the water? PS Where are you going for waxing? I went to Spa 1877 on West St/Glossop Rd and cannot recommend highly enough - was £15 and v friendly staff.

Okay, is anyone else still up? I just woke up with horrible SPD pain. DH v nice and cuddly in a sleepy way but he's got loads on at work and needs his rest, poor sausage, so I have detached myself and come downstairs for a cry on the computer. Also my right boob has gone nuts and soaked what felt like half of my t-shirt in colostrum (soz if TMI) so I also woke up with 1 cold wet boob...

If anyone else is still up, please say hi! I am feeling a little blue, although when I think of Merry and her little poppet I think maybe I need to give myself a shake and say "at least you've just got a wet boob and a sore pelvis, now get it together, Saurus".

Sorry for me post.

Btw, thank god I know what ITNG is or I'd think you lot were on drugs...

MonkeyMargot · 24/10/2008 04:40

I am up Rutho. As you know! Congrats on getting the lady garden deforrested.
Most bemused by this ITNG chat. Hmm.....i can see there's a whole brave new world out there of bizarre children's TV.
However Dozy - I DO know what a Bumbo is cos my BF gave me hers - but it's a Pink one, so if Mini-Monkey is of the Cosmo variety he may have to be gay .
Merry texted late last night - she is still undecided on names but very close...told her the good news about Obs.
DH took me out for super posh meal last night and I think everything was a bit toooo rich for me as have rather dodgy tummy now.

Yorky · 24/10/2008 06:48

Wow MM (so unconfusing only having one of you online atm!) you make it look like I got a lie in!
Ironically I was up at 40 but refusing to gt out of bed.
DS had cried out at 4, woke me, settled himself, made me need a wee and then my head wouldn't go back to sleep! I hate that
How did Merry sound on her text, how is mini marigold boy?

Dozymare · 24/10/2008 06:54

morning all - i have been up since 6ish with my little "ickle pickle" we are snugled on the sofa under the duvet, he is watching the teletubbies and I am MN-ing.......DS1 and DH are still sparko, I love this time forst thing in the morning hen it is just me and DS2 as he is soooooooo sniggly and cuddly and all still warm and gorgeous!!!!!!!!!

Yes, Monky how did Merry sound?

Vbab glad you are not in labour but quite shocked that your hospital was full....what would they have done had you been in labour????

Who else is having a baby next week BTW??? I am planned in for my CS but is anyone else joining me?? Has anyone heard from Pinky...I am getting a tad worried as she is nornally on MN every day....

Yorky · 24/10/2008 06:57

Dozy, your morning sounds like mine! Sometimes being on drugs would make early morning hyperactive kids TV presenters more bearable!
