Jed cool; Frank fab too.
I think I like Frank best cos I like old man's names (ie Stanley)
MS - I have given up on any notion of time for myself. It just doesn't happen, what with DS, work, house stuff, other dramas etc.
Sometimes it pisses me off, but I know I'm my own worst enemy in that I always find stuff to do and am very, very bad at just kicking back and doing nothing.
I rather suspect that you might be the same - when you're not at work you're cooking for England and being the uber domestic goddess.
Men are lazy s*s but we need them for sperm and occasional entertainment

Kazable · 05/10/2008 16:54

Hi all, new to this site so hope get this right - am due 22/02/09 with 2nd child having 20wk scan tomorrow!!

MarkStretch · 05/10/2008 19:15

Welcome Kazable

Thank you all for letting me rant. We have shouted talked and I feel much better now. We didn't do anything this afternoon but I did go to bed with the papers while he did the childcare which was nice.

We have decided that next weekend I will see if dd can spend the night with my mum and we will go out and do something together. I can also go shopping, meet up with friends, go for lunch or have a bath uninterrupted!

I am looking forward to it.

TinkerBellesMum · 05/10/2008 23:14

mslucy one man could repopulate the world with just one yoghurt pot of sperm, we could just get rid of all but a select few...

dinkystinky · 06/10/2008 09:06

Morning all. Hope you had a good weekend (we had a lovely one - Borough Market and Coram's fields on Saturday (hugely recommend it to all London mums and mums to be) followed by afternoon tea and playdate with neighbours on Saturday and friends over and splashing in puddles yesterday). Is definitely cold out there now - delighted that I found a maternity coat (sort of a short navy duffle item) in Topshop maternity for £65 - is sooooo snuggly....

Welcome Kazable. Hope pregnancy is going well so far. Scroll down the page, copy the latest list of due dates and repaste and add yourself in.

Markstretch - hope things are better today. I know how you feel (it feels like three quarters of the week am stuck in at home putting DS to bed while DH is at work/out with friends/doing client entertaining) - I just make sure we talk about this and we've agreed that I get my "me time" at the weekends (so I get to spend 3 hours at pregnancy yoga and bobbling around the shops one weekend, a nice hour long massage another weekend etc.). As Laidback said, its all give and take. And you'll only start resenting him more if it keeps going on like this when your DS arrives (love your names - am with MsLucy, Jed is my favourite - though probably because am a huge West Wing fan and it reminds me of Jed Bartlett - our DS is named after another character in there, not that we tell people that in real life!).

Mrsy - hope you are both feeling better now.

Onward - the spots are all down to those pregnancy hormones. Try some teatree oil on your back and should clear up a treat.

PinkTulips - my sister and I were exactly like that; we're massively close now! Kids just like to spark off each other - hope this week is better for you.

Tinkerbellesmum - glad you had a nice evening out after all the stress you've had over the past few weeks with Tink. Hope you get used to the crutches soon.

McDreamy · 06/10/2008 09:21

Morning all, just had my 20 week and all looking good! DD came with us as she had an appointment just before and I didn't have time to take her back to school. The sonographer was fabulous (think it helped that we knew him). He talked about what he was doing and what he was measuring at DD's level. He gave us loads of pictures and then let DD choose 2 of her own to take into school to show her class.

mslucy · 06/10/2008 09:54

Dinky - I love Coram's Fields - it's ace. A favourite outing for us is a trip to St Pancras/Kings Cross to look at the trains (paradise for ds) then over to Coram's for a run around.

We did the Science Museum - a bit of a mixed blessing in my opinion as I think the kids bit in the basement is VILE. Then off to Hyde Park, which is always lovely, even in the rain.

I also want a maternity coat as I'm bored of wearing things that don't do up. Am rather fancying a cape/capelet - they do one in New Look Maternity which is quite cheap and extremely fabulous.

TBM. Love it. Puts me off yoghurts though.

TinkerBellesMum · 06/10/2008 10:30

LOL if I said a glassful would it be any better?

I'm also trying to find a maternity coat. I found some nice ones on eBay the other day (new from a shop) but can't find them now I've started making a list of maternity coats because I need one and TBD is being difficult about it. I don't want to resort to a man's coat. Because of my shape I tend to look like I'm wearing men's clothes all the time, so it would be nice to look feminine at the most feminine time of a woman's life!

TinkerBellesMum · 06/10/2008 10:33

And I can't wear wool as Tink and I are allergic to it and all the best coats seem to be wool

dinkystinky · 06/10/2008 11:45

Ooh, thats a real pain TBM. Think I saw on another thread that H&M are doing a maternity parka (which shouldnt have any wool) so may be worth looking into that - not too expensive from memory (so hopefully TBD will be ok with it).

Talking of boys names, what do you guys think of Alexander? I like it (and the fact it can be shortened to Al, Alec, Alex or my favourite Xander) but DH not so sure - thinks it sounds a bit too posh... He's all in favour of Jack which I think with DH's surname would make DS2 sound like a used carsalesman

TinkerBellesMum · 06/10/2008 11:59

I like Alexander, we can't use it though because it was the dogs name lol!

I was in H&M in Birmingham yesterday and they didn't have any coats in their maternity section. I didn't find one in the whole of Birmingham! (Haven't been to Next, Top Shop or Mothercare yet, been working up in price, believe it or not even M&P didn't have one).

I have a wool coat that's well lined so it's not too bad for me and being a winter coat I tend to have a few layers in between my skin and the wool. I've worn it over Tink in her sling when she was smaller and had to be so careful as she'd end up with a rash if I let her out of it. When she was in the unit someone put a wool hat on her with a tie under the chin. When it was taken off she looked like they'd tried to hang her my brother is allergic to wool too so looks like she's got plenty of genes for it. She also reacts to transpore which I do too, I've had it written in my notes so they don't use it on the new baby.

TinkerBellesMum · 06/10/2008 12:30

OOOOOOOHHHH! The Mirror

herbgarden · 06/10/2008 12:44

Hi all

Gosh you've all been busy - just a week away and it's taken me a few skim reading sessions to just get the jist of what's going on here !!.....

Just got back from a week in Greece - weather not great but a lovely break. I did very little other than sit around sleeping and reading - ds had some childcare thrown in and got to do some amazing things which I wouldn't have been able to do with him and loved playing with lots of other toddlers - nice happy medium for us all. DH was off doing watersports so he was happy. Good hols all round.

Glad all those scans have gone well and another boy Dinky ! How exciting. I've got my head round two boys now (not that I know) and wonder if I might be a teensy bit disappointed if I don't get one. As I think I know your surname - I agree with the Jack thing (or he sounds a bit like a mainstream thriller novel detective ?!).....We thought about Nathan for a boy on holiday? What do you all think about that?

DS now knows that there's a baby in mummys tummy although he did ask when it would be out. I told him that it wasn't cooked yet and he very sweetly trotted off and told me that he was going to get a "pan" - supposedly to get the cooking underway !!....god they are sweet those 2 years olds sometimes.

Had a few aches and pains on hols and one day couldn't get comfortable during the day as I was in such pain down right buttock and leg. It seemed to go the next day so may have been due to carrying ds when he started whingeing the day before, for a bit too long. We're trying to quit that habit sooner rather than later.

Hope everyone else is ok - sorry to hear about Tink - that sounds very scary. Hope she's feeling better now.

Not really loving the chocolate or very sweet things- gives me horrible heartburn - I could eat crisps for Britain!....

Bye for now - at work - have boring meeting to go to.

herbgarden · 06/10/2008 12:49

oh yes - forgot - the coat issue. There are lots of three quarter length a-line type swing coats and I bought a lovely one in Zara just before I went on hols - it was £59 and I pulled it out far enough and think it will accommodate the bump. They did them in three nice colours too - and had some nice details on the sleeves. They had quite a good selection of that type of style so have a look !

mumoverseas · 06/10/2008 13:01

TBM - just read your article and I'm sitting here in tears as can't imagine what you went through. I'm almost 20 weeks now which made it even more real if you see what I mean? TB is beautiful, its nice to be able to put a face to a name now. How is she doing in Malta? Has it cleared up her asthma.
Hope you manage to relax/rest a bit more during this pregnancy and get rid of the crutches soon. xxx

TinkerBellesMum · 06/10/2008 13:08

It's amazing, everyone who sees her picture when they're a similar age says the same thing. I didn't even realise there was a baby in there! Don't know what I thought, but I was shocked that I had this perfect baby that looked like someone I knew (double of my stepson) even now I can see her everytime Tink is asleep.

She's not away till next weekend, but she is doing a lot better now. She's lost a lot of weight and looks very tired, with dark eyes, she's sleeping a lot and in the pushchair when she goes out (with me she has walked everywhere, but she's not able to now).

onwardandupward · 06/10/2008 13:17

Oh my God, TBM, I already knew your story but I'm just AWASH with tears. What a gift Lily-hope's life was.

OP posts:
TinkerBellesMum · 06/10/2008 13:19

They're written it as a real tear jerker! Some of the more emotional bits they've added in, even I've cried reading it!

mslucy · 06/10/2008 13:25

what a lovely story and what a beautiful pic of Tink.

PinkTulips · 06/10/2008 14:08

sobbed at that TBM.

just think we've all got a perfectly formed little baby like that in our bodies right now....

TinkerBellesMum · 06/10/2008 14:14

That's my reason for wanting the age of abortion lowered. She survived because she was healthy, that means any healthy baby could, they wouldn't live but they could survive. It struck me, sitting looking at her, how can anyone think it's OK? Forget the rights and wrongs of abortion, but a healthy baby that could live.

Bah, not going to get started on that one!

PinkTulips · 06/10/2008 14:23

ds keeps asking me 'is the baby in your tummy crying?'

am more cheerful today, dd had no nappy last night and stayed dry. she's so proud of herself

thanks for all the reassurances guys. i think sometimes alot of the problem is me forgetting ds is still so little. he speaks so well and is so outgoing i forget he's a baby and get annoyed when he tantrums or whinges. he's at least 18 months younger than any of the kids he plays with so it's no wonder he behaves worse than them.... and tbh, dd was bad up til recently but she's calmed down alot in the last month or so and i was watching her yesterdsay and sh's certainly no worse than her bf who's the same age as her exactly.

it always seems so much worse when it's your child acting out though doesn't it?

dinkystinky · 06/10/2008 14:25

Such a sad - but lovely - story TBM. Loved the photos of Tink. Such a cheeky little smile.

Herbgarden - glad you had a good holiday.

PinkTulips · 06/10/2008 14:41

i know tink.... it makes me rant too.

what bothers me is that people really think it's a pro/anti abortion issue when it's not.....

the thought that someone could choose to go over to england and kill an infant as old and well formed as the one i can feel poking around in my belly. who is already aware of his brother and sister talking to him and 'plays' with them. who likes certain music and is facinated when there is a purring kitten on my tummy.

that baby has a soul, has awareness, has consciousness, but it's legal in britain and most of the world to kill it if you so choose

TinkerBellesMum · 06/10/2008 14:43

That's so sweet PT!

I think you're right, it's hard to forget when you have a forward child that they're still little and not expect too much of them.

Thanks dinky. The one of her on her own was taken on Mum's mobile, it's huge in the paper, I was quite surprised.
