Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Congrats Dinkymum - boys are lovely

TBM - just read your story on the link and, even though I know a wee bit of your history, was in floods of tears. Beautiful, inspirational story.

PT - your kids sound like regular kids. As someone has already pointed out, kids seem to behave so much better for anyone who isn't their mum. My mum was shocked last week at ds's tantrum in the supermarket. He is always a little angel for her, not the shouty, snot & smoothie-covered grouch that seems to appear in my shopping trolley .

MS - hope you have arranged some "me" time for yourself. Our batteries need so much more in the way of recharging at the moment, so our partners are going to have to do a wee bit more. Had a similar talk with dh last week (after 2 band rehearsals, footie and a couple of other solo outings last week leaving me with cold-ridden ds). Sometimes I think they forget that the work of growing babies can be just as tiring as when they actually arrive! BTW, you should be able to go round the delivery suite if you want to. If you ask your mw, she will be able to give you details of how to sort it out. Think it might be part of AN classes - never went myself, so not sure what goes on.

I am in love with my new slow cooker. Got in from uni at 7 last night to perfectly cooked hot spicy meatballs . Am going to have to be seriously organised & committed this year if I'm going to keep on top of everything. That means less MN and will have to give up transcribing parish records (yes, am a local history geek) for the foreseeable future . Ho hum.......

Off to get dressed in multiple layers of clothing - it's blardy freezing and soggy outside to boot! Hope the dodgy roof tiles can last another winter. Only put the heating on when I can no longer feel my nose as it costs too much to heat draughty old Victorian money pits!

winemakesmummyclever · 07/10/2008 08:56

herbygarden & dinky - try drinking some tonic water too as it has quinnine in it which can help with jumpy/crampy legs. Agree in particular with upping your magnesium levels, and a few more bananas a week won't hurt for a bit of extra potassium.

Calico1 · 07/10/2008 08:58

Morning all - yes, getting the night cramps too, in calves and toes too. I find it helps if I give DH a little kick....don't see why I should have to have all the discomfort!

Congrats Dinkymum - little boys are great and so funny too. I'm not sure if I'll find out what bump is - scan on Thurs. Can't decide - I knew v early on with DS but kinda think I'll just wait for this one. Though it'll drive DH crazy not knowing as he likes to be organised, so I might just have to find out....

thehouseofmirth · 07/10/2008 09:07

WMMC I've read in several places that quinnine shouldn't be take by pregnant women. I think most of the research was done in Germany and it does involve fairly high quantities but just thought I should say. I've had a few calf cramps and find if I flex my foot and pull it up towards my shin quickly and hard as soon as it starts that I can stop it straightaway. Might try the potassium though, especially as I got a cramp in my calf as I was doing 90mph down the A3 on Saturday! Also got that awful restless leg thing in the evenings too.

oooggs · 07/10/2008 09:27

WMMC - would love some slow cooker receipes please

nothing to report except that our niece was born this morning

herbgarden · 07/10/2008 09:31

Dinkystinky......I remember both of you....I worked at Travers for a fair few number of years....you were both starting out as trainees when I was there. I wonder if you can work it out !!.......I'm not that many years ahead of you but you and Stuart got together and got married whilst I was there.

thehouseofmirth · 07/10/2008 09:49

Yes WMMC I would particularly love your meatball recipe though appreciate you are very busy!

dinkystinky · 07/10/2008 09:58

Congrats on the niece Ooggs.

Herbgarden - am now intrigued! You're going to have to give me an initial or a department to get me started though (as have been lots of people in and out of the firm since DH and I started as trainees)...

TinkerBellesMum · 07/10/2008 10:27

psst Dinky, check out her profile on FaceBook

I've just posted a thread over on FaceBook, I thought it might be too sensitive to post here, so if people can have a look for me, please. It's getting rather quiet over there lately.

dinkystinky · 07/10/2008 10:53

Aah, truly cunning TBM!

Will have to wait until I have a home laptop again (hopefully some time in the next week or so as DH then buggers off to Brazil for a week so will have lots of free evening time to mumsnet/play facebook detective)....

swampster · 07/10/2008 10:57

So why do lawyers all have February babies then?

herbgarden · 07/10/2008 11:40

hee hee - not on Facebook. If I tell you who I am (and you do know me) that you may well go "oh my god , NOT HER !!!"......Stuart was one of my trainees at one point.....

mrsy · 07/10/2008 11:46

Hey hey - am back at work and can't get over how much this baby is flipping about - I didn't really feel her mover (concentrating on the other stomach issues!) over the weekend, but this is weird!

How is everyone's Tuesdays going?

TinkerBellesMum · 07/10/2008 11:51

I'm going to do a blatant plug cause I'm desperate! If you're on FB you're on my friends list cause I've added everyone and if you're on my friends list you'll have had an invitation to join Elven Blood. Even if you never play it, please join because I need more people in my party before I can move on.

Disclaimer, I take no responsibility for anyone adding it and getting addicted!

winemakesmummyclever · 07/10/2008 12:12

thom - surely a glass of tonic water by the bed should be ok? Much of the research deals with women drinking over a litre a day.

TBM - joined a while ago, but really cannot find time to play as fear it may be very very addictive.

Ooogs - congratulations on your new niece! Recipes? My main method of slow cooking (well, any kind of cooking I do really) is just bung in whatever is in the fridge And the meatballs came ready made from Sainsbo's! I am not a domestic goddess like MS (would love to go to her house for tea!) Will scan the recipes from the booklet if you like (though will have to get dh to bring scanner home from work first). There are some threads on here too that have some nice looking stuff on them. Have also purloined bread maker from PILS and am going to try to make some bread fresh for breakfast tomorrow.

Am starving now .

KazzaL · 07/10/2008 12:23

It is so frustrating not being able to FB at work, although i do completely understand why work have blocked all the networking sites. I'm sure they will work out I spend most of my day on here soon and block this as well.

there is nothing quite like waking up to the smell of fresh bread WMMC - good luck with the first loaf tonight. fresh bread is also very addictive

DS is finally better and back in nursery, we're still restricting the dairy products and have advised the nursery to do too, lactose intolerance is another symptom of coeliace disease, so anothe piece of ammo for the next paed appt in a couple of weeks.

We've also moved him into a cot bed rather than the cot we had him in, he seems so little again lying in the bed

winemakesmummyclever · 07/10/2008 12:24

Nothing labour intensive about my cooking and quantities are completely dependent upon what/how much we have in

Meatballs
jar of passata
sliced mushrooms
red pepper
chopped onion
pancetta (lardons)
beef stock (about 200-300ml)
garlic
sprinkle of italian herbs (Schwarz)
black pepper

Could pop in some red wine +/or chillis if you have them (I didn't) to pep it up a bit.

Got the bits and bobs ready the night before and stored in fridge until morning.

Bung it all in on low for about 6 hours before going out.

We had it with pasta with cheese on top.

Am just enamoured with the ease of it all really. Too knackered and frazzled to cook properly after all day at uni

Really, really hungry now so will trot off and heat up the leftovers

dinkystinky · 07/10/2008 12:40

KazzaL - yay for your DS's recovery. How did the move to a cot bed go?

WMMC - that recipe sounds nice (though would need to change the beef to lamb - do you think it would work with that?)

Herbgarden - oh no, that means I have to rely on DH's memory, which is never great at the best of times. Off the top of my head he sat with a V in the pensions department and a K in the property department - are you either of those (if you are promise there will be no "not her" comments)?

dinkystinky · 07/10/2008 12:42

P.s. Swampster - in my case it was a nice quiet May meaning DH and I managed to see each other abit (curiously enough when got pregnant with DS was when I had a quiet period in the July after having completed about 4 transactions in 2 weeks too)...

mslucy · 07/10/2008 12:42

your meatball thing sounds lush. very Jamie Oliver.
have a few in freezer - tempted to give it a whirl.
Might try a less herby/garlicky version for ds, who I'm ashamed to say existed on an almost cake only diet yesterday!

Am force feeding him with fruit and vegetables today as some kind of antidote.

Speaking of Jamie, am looking forward to watching him again tonight. Only caught up with the first episode yesterday and thought it was amazing.

Thought it was wrong to have chosen a town in the North as it played to the prejudices of people in the south. I can think of loads of people in London, Kent, Essex etc who eat rubbish and I think Jamie should have included these people in the programme too.

TinkerBellesMum · 07/10/2008 13:02

winemakesmummyclever good plan. Someone on my list had a status message "is addicted to Elven Blood, thanks [TBM]"

KazzaL there is a website you can go to that allows you to visit blocked sites through it. There's a FB group on it, I'll post the link in our group.

herbgarden · 07/10/2008 13:10

dinky - yes I'm one of those......

herbgarden · 07/10/2008 13:10

Yes I'm one of those

herbgarden · 07/10/2008 13:10

Oops - had a very odd message pop up as I was posting and then posted a very odd message second time. Ignore me !!!.....

KazzaL · 07/10/2008 13:26

TBM - don't tell me please, otherwise I really will get no work done at work - I need them to take the internet away from me really - it is amazing the rubbish I look at all day as I am so bored by work
