There is FAR to much cake talk on this thread. I have bought the ingredients for a huge chocolate cake which I am going to make tonight........and then scoff and I hold you all responsible!!!!

america · 03/10/2008 15:13

I tried the lovely lemon cake recipe somebody posted on one of the previous threads. It was delicious! Could do with a chocolate cake recipe too? Anyone?

nadssss · 03/10/2008 15:18

Chocolate nemesis cake (veryyyy healthy as flourless!) ? the best thing I have ever tasted ? like soft fudge ? seems to take a bit longer than 30 mins particularly if sing deeper tin

12 ounces (340 g) dark baking chocolate, broken into small pieces
5 eggs
1 g cups (280 g) superfine sugar
2 sticks (225 g) softened unsalted butter
2 tablespoons (30 g) butter and 1 tablespoon flour for the cake pan

Preheat the oven to (150°C). Line an 8-inch (26-cm) diameter shallow cake pan 2 inches (5 cm) deep with nonstick baking paper, then grease it with butter and sprinkle with flour. Beat the eggs with one third of the sugar until the mixture quadruples in volume (this operation will require beating for around 10 minutes with an electric beater). Heat the rest of the sugar in a saucepan with 1 cup (250 ml) water until the sugar dissolves into a syrup. Add the chocolate pieces and the butter. Mix well. When smooth, remove from the heat and leave to cool. Pour the mixture over the eggs while it is still slightly warm and continue to beat gently until it is smooth (no more than 20 seconds). Pour the mixture into the prepared cake pan and place the pan in a roasting pan of hot water. The water must come right up to the top of the mould, so that the cooking is uniform.

Bake it for 30 minutes in the oven until it has set. Check for doneness by gently placing the palm of your hand on the surface. If it is not set, continue cooking. Cool the cake in the pan before turning upside down to unmold onto a cake plate.

Girl and curry, not for the first time either!

dinky, is this the Indian version of a shower? Think I could go with that!

Mumoverseas baths are great but I can't get in them very easily. I don't have a shower at home so am having to sneak (I don't drive so not very subtle) over to my parents for a shower a couple of times a week! Have got my crutches now, my hands and elbows are killing, hopefully it won't take too long to get used to!

america I've never had so much boob ache in pregnancy before. I know I'm tandeming, but it's beyond that. Have you got the sparky feeling like everything trying to restart? I'm also feeling clumsy, I keep twisting my ankle, but I think that comes in with the PGP.

nadssss physio was just telling me about lying in the recovery position with a pillow between the knees. It's about the only way I can sleep. BTW I think the weight we need to put on is probably a bit more baby

Feeling a little like I'm falling apart at the moment. Had lunch at Mum's office with her and my sister, they stood looking at my face and then Mum said "has that grown" sister, "was just thinking that". I have a raised mole on my face, I've always liked it but been a little nervous about it. It's feeling sore at the moment and I think they could be right. I have one next to it, smaller but also raised and I think that's bigger too. Going to try and see the GP next week.

nadssss · 03/10/2008 15:44

You poor poor thing TBM with your crutches ? you are v brave. I think moles do get darker and change in size etc when preg so don?t worry yet ? AND I think they will sort you out really quickly if you go in ? the docs seem to react v promptly to any mole changes

MarkStretch · 03/10/2008 15:47

Hello

Love the new thread title.

I am starting to worry about the amount of weight I will gain with this baby. I really don't want to feel awful about the way I look.

I figure if I keep my hair and make up looking nice and wear some lovely clothes, I will focus less on the size of my arse...

I am hoping the plan will work.

onwardandupward · 03/10/2008 15:48

I've had the occasional absolutely crippling shooting pain in a breast, and I'm absolutely sure it's a milk duct which gave up the ghost entirely some time ago in my epic nursing career hauling itself upright again, creaking and groaning. Very odd sensation. I don't remember being so acutely aware of a very specific sensation last time, but maybe it is because I am more aware of the inner geography of my breasts than I was first time around...

But I have not been squeezing my nipples to see if there's colostrum... I'm assuming I'm still producing milk tbh, though not much I don't think.

Cake: this is the chocolate cake we make on a very regular basis, and you'll see why:

1 cup SR flour
1/2 cup (or just under) sugar
1/3 cup live yoghurt
1/3 cup butter (melted)
1 egg
1/3 cup water
squeeze in the contents of 3-4 fish oil capsules, also any other vitamins you feel like adding, just powder them in pestle and mortar and shove in
1/2 tsp baking powder
just under 1/4 cup of cocoa powder.

Put in little cup cake cases. Or works equally well as a big sponge cake, but I'd probably double up the ingredients for that.

About 10-15 minutes at 180-200C

See, I never mind if anyone in my family eats loads of these. Look at all those healthful ingredients. burps gently

onwardandupward · 03/10/2008 15:49

Oh, but if it's being a big sponge cake it takes longer than 15 minutes obviously

mumoverseas · 03/10/2008 15:51

TBM hope you get on ok with the crutches. I was on them a few years ago for a couple of weeks after putting my back out and it was so difficult. At least if your parents have Tink for a while you won't be rushing around so much and can hopefully get some rest.
Just finished off (not on my own!) DD's yummy birthday cake.
might have to try your receipe nadsss, sounds yummy!

TinkerBellesMum · 03/10/2008 15:57

As daft as it sounds I'm actually glad to be on them, I've had enough of trying to do it on my own and having people not taking me too seriously. My dad came with me and was there while I was talking to the physio so I now have a witness to "bed rest"! I'm supposed to be doing a mystery shop in a night club tommorrow, so could be interesting on crutches Only have to spend 90 minutes in there then I can leave, £45 is a nice fee

nadssss · 03/10/2008 16:01

OAU ? I have had the same shooting pain in my boobs ? really awful ? hoped it was milk duct related!

I am worried about weight gain too - really want to put on closer to 2 stone than 3

PinkTulips · 03/10/2008 16:14

brrrrrr....... have i mentioned the cold recently?

my friend is having a house party tonight so have been roped in to help her prepare from 7... haven't informed dp yet! must get them fed quickly so i can at least attempt to make an effort with my appearance.

dp has been given the option to do his next exam in 3 weeks.... that means a years worth of coursework in 3 weeks [eek] going to be camping out in other peoples houses for weeks to keep out of his way!

nadssss · 03/10/2008 16:27

I know ? have you succumbed to putting the heating on yet?

I can?t seem to get warm ? then I get in a warmish bath and feel scared about the temperature!

PinkTulips · 03/10/2008 16:34

o&u, i keep getting weird boobs sensations as well.... they only hurt sometimes but more often feel like the tugging sensations you get when you let down quite strongly but no leakage appears. very peculiar.

my boobs have been in constant nursing mode for years now so i guess some weirdness is to be expected at this point!

onwardandupward · 03/10/2008 16:38

Hi Nadssss - yes I'm SURE it's milk ducts waking themselves up.

Please don't worry about weight gain. I think our bodies do what they need to do, yk? I suppose it depends whether we were traditionally built in the first place (I love Precious Ramotswe!) I certainly put on over 3 stone last time. actually, it might have been more like 4 and a half. All on my 5'2" frame... And I never dieted afterwards, just breastfed exclusively and avoided biscuits and cake (ha!), and hefted an increasingly large baby around, and I was back at my pre preg weight about a year later.

There's nothing like hot baths in pregnancy I like them much warmer than in normal life.

I love how many of us Fab Febbers are still nursing older children [smug]

PinkTulips · 03/10/2008 16:44

no oil

children's allowance day tuesday and then we pray that we didn't airlock the boiler. although my friends brother will help us if we have i hate asking and it will mean even longer with no heat.

the mad thing is she lives down the road and also has no heating atm and has her door open all day for the kids and often windows open too and her house isn't cold but we have every window and vent shut and ours is like a freezer... the heat seems to be sucked out of our house instantly as it's exposed to the wind in every direction

rosieposey · 03/10/2008 16:51

Thats it, im heading to s/burys ... i NEED 'taste the difference' curry (would prefer a takeaway one but cant hold out till 7 o clock) I had mulligatawny soup for lunch, DP knows i would happily eat curry every single day and i drag him to the local sunday curry buffet at least twice a month. I might not be able to resist the cupcakes either, its not fair as ive been so good these last few weeks but you just cant get diabetic bloody cupcakes from patisseries :-( Ill just have one then never ever go there again

lardybump · 03/10/2008 17:49

evening all hope you enjoyed your cupcakes RP. Laidbackinengland girls are great and so so easy. you will love it... congratualtions.......

Mrsy I live 5 mins from Maidstone town centre so really close.

I really want cake now..... I have already eaten two hot cross buns today.. oink oink.

MarkStretch · 03/10/2008 18:03

I believe we only started this thread today and we're already up to 45 posts! Love it!

DH and I are having the usual argument: I'm staying in with children while he goes out...blah blah blah. It never changes

lardybump · 03/10/2008 18:13

MarkStretch · 03/10/2008 19:35

It's ok- he's gone out to get us curry!

He's in tonight and out tomorrow night when we have DSD here. I always end up in with both our children!

I am soaking fruit for my Christmas cake...

I have a feeling my house will be coming down with baked products this year!

Oh look, I mentioned cake and curry in the same post!
