sambrads · 26/09/2008 18:12

jenwa · 26/09/2008 18:13

ajm DH told you to hold on!!!! Maybe next time you are having nookie you should tell him the same and see if he can hold on to a tiny bit of sperm and remind him of the time that he told you to hold on to a baby!!!
Men are ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! (anyway, doubt nookie is in the question for a long while even if you do come out of this still talking!!!)

Good luck and hopefully he will get his arse home in time otherwise go with your friend, DH will feel very guilty then

Go make sure your bags are ready and you are ready to go then run yourself a nice bath, maybe ask friend over to look after DS whilst you have a bath just so you can relax.

take care

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/09/2008 18:29

Wow ? this thread has grown quickly.

AJM ? How exciting! Try not to focus on the baby being a premmie ? you?re far enough along that things will be fine. Focus on your relaxation and GOOD LUCK!

Welcome to plusonemore ? (lots of due on the 29thers now!). I came with an October date too which was changed at my scan and didn?t want to change threads.

I?m interested in your Ipod playlist perkypopsy. I was going to make some but have no idea what I?m going to want to listen to when I?m actually in labour. Have you done some different ones for different moods??

bigmouthstrikesagain · 26/09/2008 18:54

Sorry 2 yo just posted for me! I will be back later as I have to get little ones to bed. Good luck AJM and on your behalf at your dh.

star6 · 26/09/2008 18:55

Hey everyone - I just got these "nipple protectors" from avent... for breastfeeding (when nipples are sore?) has anyone used these? They are made from sillicone... please don't think I'm totally disgusting for wondering this if the answer is no... but... can you re-use these? Are they washable or are they disposable? It doesn't say on the package but I assumed you could re use them... also... are they even necessary?? I have the lansinoh cream.
And what do you all have to breastfeed in public? I'm just a bit shy/modest about showing my private areas like that... is there a special blanket?

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/09/2008 19:07

If they are nipple shields star then you should try to avoid using them, as they can cause problems with breastfeeding.

You can get some weirdy covers for breastfeeding that will stop you being exposed, but they will definitely cause far more people to stare at you in a 'what on earth is going on there' way than if you were doing a topless fandango!
I would recommend getting some bump bands to cover up your midriff, and then just lift up your top a little - it really can be very discreet. Other people like to wear a vest, and do top up vest down, so that only the bare minimum is exposed.
Or you could simply drape a muslin over your shoulder and babies head and your breast.

star6 · 26/09/2008 19:12

Thanks csws. I was actually wondering about that. A friend recommended them (from the US), but when they arrived in the post, they look just like bottle tops. I thought they would be just like a cover shaped to the breast... but it's not and I also wonder if air gets caught in there.
There's another interesting contraption too - What about the plastic cups for collecting breast milk (it's in two parts) - looks like a breast pad, but plastic and two pieces.

rowanmac · 26/09/2008 19:13

ajm200 go for it, LOL at cat with steak.

at Day Case unit today BP up but not ridiculous , tracing good so home but clearly I left an impression of being miserable so have appt on Mon to see consultant re early induction ie at 39-40 weeks if not gone by then. Unintentional really but bad day, arrived on crutches, couldn't get off bed and threw up in sink. Classy.

star, try not to use them but they can be handy, yes they are reusable. I think you are supposed to sterilise them between uses. As for feeding in public don't try it until you are both slick at it. Boots and Debenhams often have mother and Baby rooms to go and hide in otherwise you can drape a shawl over you both. I wore cardigans all the time. You have the right to feed in public ( its law in Scotland) and definitely not in the toilet. I suggested the silly old bat who said that took her coffee in there. Personally after giving birth I found a lot of personal shyness went away and if babes yelling and you start leaking everywhere you may not have a choice!. Back seat of the car is also good, people are remarkably unobservant.

rowanmac · 26/09/2008 19:16

ajm you should be over 36 weeks so should be fine not a major panic.

KSal · 26/09/2008 19:27

Hi perkypopsy sorry its taken so long for me to reply - this motherhood lark is very time consuming (as if i didn't know that before i got myself into this!!) Anyway... to bring labour on I was doing DIY and carrying things up and down the stairs (the stairs was a tip from my NCT class. It seemed to do the trick!) My mother in law came round while i was having contractions and was rather stunned to find me putting silicone sealant round the bath!

Anyway, good luck, I see you're due very soon - very exciting!

Thanks everyone else for all the congratulations, and congratulations in turn to loulou33 iuseantiageingstuff twinklytoes and myjobismum - hope everything is going well

Also thanks for the offer of clothes CSWS much appreciated.

Blimey, just read back through all the messages - good luck AJM! and try not to worry too much about how early you are, very similar timing to me and very unlikely to be problems as you are quite far along. My little girl is absolutely fine. They'll probably just have a little more equipment available in the deilvery suite just in case.

accessorizequeen · 26/09/2008 20:49

Good lord, didn't this new thread just start? No chance of keeping up as I can't sit at the computer for more than 5 mins without getting crampy.
AJM, sounds just like when I went into labour with ds2, I threw up all day then gradually contractions got to 5 mins apart and persuaded dp to take me to hospital!

My dp said he'd only stay home tonight if contractions were less than 6 mins so I think you're fairly safe star, first labours never that quick. I'm having an hour or two every day usually about 8-10 mins apart (several hours yesterday, then faded off) so we're getting blase about it all I think. Woman who cried wolf, I shan't believe when it happens as I've got every sign of imminent labour for over a week now. Cannot be bothered trying anything to get it started - I'm 39+2 with dts fgs if they want to come out they will when they're ready! Can't walk, can't clean, can't climb stairs, definitely not having sex anyway!

Bethoo, I'm coming in late but glad to hear you've got a new man [smille]

ronshar · 26/09/2008 21:35

Four pages already. I was only on here yesterday

AJM Bloody brilliant. I was thinking lots of positive labour thoughts for you today. I shall redouble my efforts to get your DH home to you before baby arrives.

Star as the others have said, nipple shields can interfer with the baby latching on. Also try to only use the cream if you have too.
I was given a tip about rubbing a little of your fore milk into your breast before each feed and it soften's up the nipple area before baby starts to suck. It worked for me both times. It may be another one of those tips that are soaked in old lady tales but it is better than using sillicone or creams.
Also feeding in public gets much easier but dont try it until you are comfortable with it yourself. Why put all that extra pressure on yourself??

Welcome to the ladies who are joining us from September. Are there many of you left to go now??

Rowan, love you sound really grumpy. Can you not treat your self to some Rowan time? A nice breakfast in bed or time away on your own. It is harder every day isnt it now.

Honeymoonmummy · 26/09/2008 22:18

Doh! Just posted this on the old thread before I read it...

I've just posted this as a brand new thread too but you guys may be able to help...

I have a tingling sensation going across the top of my bump, its like the start of pins and needles. It lasts from 30 seconds to a minute and its happened about 10 to 20 times today.

I called the hospital and they had me in for monitoring and the baby seems fine but they dont know what it is, the midwife suggested its the baby kicking me?

Has anyone had it or know what it is??
P.S I'm not on the list of due dates... 29 Oct

ronshar · 26/09/2008 22:40

It might be from the pressure of baby bottom pushing against the top of your uterus?
Are you still wearing wired bras? Could be that. To be honest I cant think of anything else to suggest. Sorry. If the hospital not too worried then try not to focus on it too much. I hope it goes away though.

AJM, any news yet

accessorizequeen · 26/09/2008 22:42

meant to say something about nipple shields too, star. I used them with both my ds's and everyone's absolutely right in that they can interfere with supply etc (I found that both babies fed a lot, lot longer with them but my supply wasn't affected). But I will say that I wouldn't have fed either of them for as long as I did had I not used them (ds1 for 10 weeks, ds2 for 10.5 months) because I had flat nipples and it was v.hard for both to latch on. They're v.hard to wean babies off, took me several months with ds2 until I wasn't using them at all. Much better to seek really good advice from a bf counsellor who will advise on positioning and help with a better latch (poor latch may cause sore nipples in the first place). I had a La Leche counsellor come to my house in the early weeks & that was soooo helpful, I expect I'll need more help with the dt's and won't hesitate to ask anyone I can find!

Hope AJM's silence means she's delivering a baby!

ronshar · 26/09/2008 22:51

Hey Accessorise. How are you getting on. I am amazed that you are still here with twins. It puts me to shame that I am grumpy and I only have one inside me.
How much longer will the doctors let you go now before they drag you in by your ankles?
Are the nipple shields designed for ladies who have flat/inverted nipples? I always thought they were just another thing that they tell you that you have to buy but really you dont actually need.
Like nappy bins and nappy holders which hang on doors and specific food mashers/liquidisers, when really you can use a fork.
Sorry you can tell I am a third time mum who has fallen for the "you must spend thousands on a small infant who could really sleep in a draw and be happy"

bigmouthstrikesagain · 26/09/2008 22:56

Hello again - everything is moving so quickly here now - impossible to keep up but I will try. Star I have just received a new sling in the post a Coory and Carry which I hope will aid discrete breastfeeding while runing around after my other two! A good sling can be a god send with a newborn.

I have had a couple of false alarms this week (37 weeks yesterday) - first at my antenatal appt the baby had an accelerated heartbeat 180-190 (should be 110-160), so I was told to go to the day unit at the hospital. Thank god dh is off work and was with me and had the car - otherwise i would have had o run to ds school collect him and get train then taxi to hospital! As it was as soon as I was monitored again the heartrate was normal - she was doing somersaults or something and it is normal for heartrate to go up when 'exercising' have to o back for appt next week as well though. Then that night I had an hour of severe Braxton Hicks - 2-3.30 am I had a couple of paracetamol and they went but it was a bit scary as I am now 'allowed' to go into Labour and have homebirth etc. but I am so not ready it isn't funny!

I actually only packed my hospital bag yesterday

Also I am facing the prospect of the next year or so being stuck in the back seat of our car as we simply cannot fit 3 car seats in the rear (we have a Mondeo), which with my 'childbearing' hips is going to be interesting.

Sorry I have been blethering on to long....

accessorizequeen · 26/09/2008 22:57

hey ronshar believe me I am v.v.grumpy some days
Being induced on due date 1st October if they don't arrive by then (which I bloomin' well hope they do!). All is well with dt's and me so no reason to rush me in. I did say no to two previous induction dates as I don't want to be induced and heighten risk of section, which is already at 50%.
I know shields are used a lot for sore nipples, but really designed for flat/inverted AFAIK but bf counsellors have told me there's no reason women with nipples like that can't bf, it's just harder to get babies latched on as I've found. Interesting when it comes to getting TWO of them on!!
I still get comments about 'they'd be happy in a drawer' from people, always makes me giggle internally

bigmouthstrikesagain · 26/09/2008 22:57

apologies for poor spelling having a few sticky keyboard issues tonight!

Emmsy1 · 26/09/2008 22:59

AJM really excited for you, we were due on the same day, hope all is ok??x
