Hi ladies, new thread as we seem to have outgrown the old one!

Morning (hah!) ladies!

Ladybuzz - got yer facebook invite, thanks! How weird it is to think of us all having other namers IRL...

Lacks, if an HV came round to my house right now they would start proceedings to get the baby adopted . Although DH works in housing and some of the places he sees - unless your DCs have dog poo in their hair I think the HV will just think it's normal. Hey, the jam and croissant is indication of your DCs' sophisticated and varied diet, no?

Apparently when an HV came to see my mum when I was tiny I showed her up by stripping naked and prancing into the room. Well, it's not like I still do that now, largely because I fear hearing cries of "Thar she blows" and "Fetch the harpoons".

I am loving the new haircut as I feel much more groomed now but I think DH is a bit scared by the shortness of it and I have the tiniest suspicion that it makes me look like a skittle - tiny head, big round body, you know.

MM - poo to your inlaws, I say. Sweepstake's a good idea, I feel like winning something! How does it work? Choco, email on its way, rather unfortunately entitled "mumsnet weepstake", I notice. Darn these big fat fingers.

Aw, Coolcat, big hugs. YANBU and I think it's fine to feel like that. Look, if you can't face going, just use the baby as an excuse! I'm sure if it was the other way round then no-one would be expecting your sis to come to your wedding. Bloody families, eh? I'm with Hana, do you think maybe your darling sis is indulging in just a teensy bit of thunder stealing? Not being funny but wouldn't it be terrible if November was for once all about you and your baby, and she was left out of the limelight for once? . It seems strange that she can't wait til, oh, I dunno, DECEMBER, to have the wedding. Just stirring, and porbably very unhelpfully at that. Bad Saurus. But for you, grr.

MonkeyMargot · 02/10/2008 12:25

Coolkat I think it's a little selfish of your sis to do it precisely when you've just given birth. Although they do say that all newborns do is sleep the whole time (!!) so it could work? What makes me smile is that she's probably rushing the wedding so as not to "show" so much (her being a god-fearing woman and all) - but FFS - she could've done it any time between now and her EDD.
BTW - FFS is FOR FUCK's SAKE. Not sure if that's a generic MN acronym.
However, I'm sure you'll make yourself look gorgeous whatever
Saurs LOL at your skittle analogy!!
Anyone else subscribe to the babycentredotcouk? In my weekly PG update, it says that from 35 weeks, you shouldn't put on anymore weight - I truly hope so!! Have already put on well over 2 stone . However, I took a tip from VB (that's Posh Spice to you) and have hung up all my winter pre-preg clothes in wardrobe - kind of as an aspirational thing. Don't want to be wearing clothes with elasticated waists for the next year......
Ooh - spoke to Chief MW at hospital re. Home birth - and it's all moving forward.
ChocO Your e-mail isn't working for me either.
Can someone kindly confirm, our LondonLadiesWotDoTea - is it 2pm tomrrow? And the venue again? sorry...blancmange brain.
P.S. Has everyone given up on scrabble? I know Obs has a good excuse, but the rest of you??!
Love and best wishes to Obs BTW.
Lacks - keep us posted on possible "show".
P.P.S. One of my NCT ladies went into labour yesterday, and another has Pre-eclampsia so will be having a C-Sec in next week.

coolkat, I can understand why you are upset, and can't help but think would it have hurt them to wait for a few more weeks or until after Christmas. Of course you want to go to her wedding, but having done a wedding last year with a four week old baby it was very stressful; and it was a friend, not family. I actually missed the church by the time we got everyone ready. We could have made it, if we had run , but when we got there, DD decided she needed another feed so we checked into the hotel so I could feed her then DS and DH walked over to the church in time to see the "I Dos"

Can't your folks convince her to wait a bit; or is it all booked up.

MM, not sure that's right about the last five weeks as it's when baby bulks up a bit so some weight must go on. Also slebs apparently get their electives done at about 36 weeks to avoid the weight gain of the last four weeks! I know most of my stretchmarks with DS appeared after about 34 weeks. Maybe they are more to do with shape of bump rather than size though. And don't fret about getting back in your regular stuff.....you will soon realise that elastic is your friend

My friend popped in for a cuppa this morning and was at me...she says my bump has really dropped since she saw me on Sunday. No more discharge, but feeling decidedly uncomfortable.

rutho, I'm sure your hair is lovely, and just think you won't need to worry about it annoying you by being in your face when you are in labour.

I couldn't find a comb or brush this morning, so mine has gone straight from towel to scrunchie.....gawd knows what state it'll be in when I eventually find the comb.

coolkat · 02/10/2008 13:14

Hi ladies, thanks for words of support.

I don't think you were being harsh Hana, me and DH agree. She is always preeching to us church this church that but lets face it they both could not beleive or be that committed, we think it maybe a little bit planned on her behalf

DH chunters Hypocrites the lot of em!!

Mum phoned this morning and said they booked for last sat in Nov so I suppose thats something although DH still at work and I still pi**ed off. Time will tell how things pan out.

Thanks again, sorry to have ranted about non preg issues. X

Pinkyminkee · 02/10/2008 13:26

Hello all Another stranded whale reporting in. I'm begininning to think that the name 'minky' is a little too apt. I just feel like a big bump with legs.

Good to hear obs is keeping her chin up. Sounds like she has some sort of nasty bug, they can make you soo sick when PG. Send her get well hug from me.

coolkat I do feel for you on the family thing. My sis tends to have one dramam after another (or, if you belived everything my mum says, she does). I know christmass weddings can get very booked up but surely she could postpone it til December??

MonkeyMargot · 02/10/2008 13:41

Thanks for the link hana.
Hmm - I thought not gaining any extra weight in last month sounded like a load of bollocks.
Oh well - it is what it is! In my case, a pair of v.sturdy thighs. And arse.
BTW - wasn't in ANY way making comparisons between me and Mrs.Beckham. I eat like a horse.

Pinkyminkee · 02/10/2008 13:47

Oh and ceebee my hospital bag, from what I can remember:
navy towels 1xbath, 1xhand

Jumbo cheapo black nickers
Super cheap vest nighties from tesco's for labour x2
vests for post natal ward
sarongsx3
old birkenstocks
socks (for labour)

little travel pack tolitetries, incl face wipes
nipple cream

friend has loaned me a long navy waffle dressing gown, but not sure if I'll find it too warm, taking it anyway

I think that's about it

ruthosaurus · 02/10/2008 13:55

Coolcat I can't believe your sis has actually managed to book anywhere at this short notice. We had to book 18 months in advance but maybe it's her church rallying round? Maybe it's a miracle baby - oo, hang on, my saucer of milk just arrived.

Lacks, re discharge, me too. Maybe it's the beginning of the end, but I suspect could go on for a while. I have a very firm feeling based on not v much that this baby isn't going to hang around to the end of the whole 40 weeks, though.

Re: weight gain and slebs - if I had a nanny, personal trainer and stylist booked to descend on me as the cord was cut I'm sure I'd look wonderful within a fortnight too. Did anyone else see those pictures of Nicole Kidman after she had her baby? Blimey! Plus, I bet VB actually does eat like a horse: she certainly looks like she only susbsists on grass and oats. Cow. Or horse.

Speaking of which, I have got to the crap end of the week and the fridge only has weird stuff left in it so I am currently eating a fig and wensleydale sarnie, which is almost as odd as it sounds. TF for funny pregnant tastebuds, eh?

OP posts:
Pinkyminkee · 02/10/2008 13:57

monkey I'm quite sure you look grogeous!
You will need the extra bit of strength and weight you have gained to your thighs and bum for the birth- that is why we all gain it there when PG- isn't nature amazing??

FWIW, I do inflate slightly after the birth, but I think a lot of it is fluid, it does go down fairly quickly, and bfeeding definitely helps your uterus go down- yuo can feel it.

LackaDAISYcal · 02/10/2008 14:02

{ouch} remembers the afterpains with DD...which apparently get worse with subsequent babies

I will tell you what I have in my hospital bag when I have found all the stuff and packed the bloody thing!

Pinkyminkee · 02/10/2008 14:02

lol at miracle baby- that's what I just lurve about organised religion- a double standard for everything...oops sorry to offend anyone..just a little ex-catholic humour

I am slightly jealous of you and lacks, rutho. I will be very jealous if you two have your babies in the next few weeks and I'm left to 42 weeks or something.

Love the term 'beginning of the end'- not feeling at all nervous are you??

ruthosaurus · 02/10/2008 14:17

Pinky, dahlink, I am totally weeing myself with fear! Or is that just Baby Saurus bungee jumping on my bladder again? Little angel.

Don't be jealous, we are still sleeping in the spare room as DH is a perfectionist and needs the decorating in the bedroom to be totally perfect. This means all clothes are still in bags in the attic, wardrobes still in flatpack etc. I'm going to stand on my head with the big cork in for a bit this afternoon just in case.

Lacks, there are afterpains now? FFS.

OP posts:
Pinkyminkee · 02/10/2008 14:31

oops. lacks.. I think I let the cat out of the bag on that one.. well..sort of..erm your uterus contracts, obviously (thankfully) and Bfeeding helps stimulate this process, so you sort of feel your uterine muscles contracting- not like in labour, perhaps pangs of the stronger BH you are feeling now.

I am now also jealous as it sounds like your DH still has the will to do DIY I think my DH is just too knackered. But your chappy will need to get a shuffle on,methinks

ChocOrange05 · 02/10/2008 14:34

Merry DOH you are right sorry - there is no dot in between my first name and surname. Please try again and consider me a silly fool!!

ChocOrange05 · 02/10/2008 14:38

Just realised we need a new thread soon - please please please can we have something about babies ready to be born - I feel like I've waited ages to get to a thread with that kind of title! Saurus - as our resident funny lady - please come up with something!!

AutumnLady · 02/10/2008 14:52

Afternoon all

It's my last afternoon which feels really weird. I have some really pretty flowers from one of my bosses and colleague and the other office bought me a really cute pram suit. Feel all chuffed

LondonLadies - I'm still up for meeting before the tea and have posted that on the thread but thought I would just tell you on here as well.

I had my growth scan this lunchtime as my GP said she was worried bump was small. Turns out that he is completely average and there's nothing to worry about Was great to see him again on screen even though it is much harder to see the details than before. He has some hair already and long legs but couldn't see his face as he was facing the floor!! Still good to go for 3rd Nov but his head is really low down now so I hope he's not planning an early escape.

Need to catch up on the rest of the thread so will write more in a bit

xx

Pinkyminkee · 02/10/2008 16:29

Hi Autumnlady- your colleaques sound very thoughtful! Yay for your last day and glad the scan went well.

Have we heard from missy today? I hope she is ok, too.

Pinkyminkee · 02/10/2008 16:30

colleagues, obviously, lordy my typing

ruthosaurus · 02/10/2008 16:43

Hey all, I got the results of my swabs back from the hospital - I have (drum roll) staphylococcus aureus. Woo. Apparently it's eminently treatable using penicillin-spectrum antiobiotics, which I am largely allergic to.

They say they're going to get back to me on that one.

Huh.

OP posts:
LackaDAISYcal · 02/10/2008 16:48

sorry to scare you with tales of afterpains rutho . If it's any consolation, I never even felt them with DS....only DD. and to be fair, they only seem like they are sore; compared to labour itself they are a walk in the park. Think nasty, twingy period pains which are essentially mild contractions anyway. They pass quickly as well........a week at the most.

ruthosaurus · 02/10/2008 16:50

Actually, that's cheered me up! No, really. Anyway, a lady in your condition should not be digging.

OP posts:
ruthosaurus · 02/10/2008 16:52
