Brand new thread ladies!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
laweaselmys · 17/09/2008 10:01

Oh just wanted to add - I think I'm having a bit of a 2nd trimester bloom as well! I've been feeling fabulous for the last week or so (I'm 13+5) but it might just be because I love my new job. I still hate being sick all the time, I don't know if I've just got used to it, but I seem to have stopped dwelling on it. I recover quicker and can just get on with things. It's so different to before.

dinny · 17/09/2008 10:05

think my sickness is definitely going

have even done 40 mins on my x trainer this morning so I MUST be feeling better as I couldn 't have even CONTEMPLATED it 3 weeks ago

also, have sickness bands OFF today for first time!!

don't think I will be returning to work after this bbay (hurrah!) which means I can take mat leave just before Xmas!! 29 weeks, isn't it?

babyinbelly · 17/09/2008 10:23

I had a shock this morning. Weighed myself for the first time in a few weeks and only put on a kilogram. Thats what 2.2lbs. I am shocked because I feel soooo fat and have a huge belly that expanding every day! Literally.

I am also feeling loads better the last week or so. Don't need to be in bed by 8pm.

If anyone know for definate when we can go on mat leave that would be great cos my dp is having a mare at the way boss is treating me and wants me to quit!

emma2617 · 17/09/2008 10:25

So jealous of you being able to take mat leave at 29 weeks!! Me and DP have no savings at all and a small amount of debt so I will have to work up to 38 weeks in the hope to save £3000 by the time bambino is born to buy baby stuff with and tide us over while I am on mat leave!!!

Well...thats the plan anyway!!

babyinbelly · 17/09/2008 10:31

Last time round I took mat leave really early and then went back to work when ds was 10weeks old. That was tough so was hoping to stay till end this time but with dp threating to beat up boss I don't think I can do that. He's being a wee bit overprotective I think!

dinny · 17/09/2008 10:37

BIB - yes, midwife said to me yesterday earliest is 29 weeks

mmmm, I know it's really lucky - am going to do some freelance writing to make a living , hopefully! am so pleased as in my job we are so busy over Xmas, and it means I won;t have to be in!

babyinbelly · 17/09/2008 10:52

I work in a sports centre so obviously xmas and more so new year are ridiculously busy at that time. Hope I can be out of it but really wanted more time with the baby. Will have to sit down and look at finances I think.

Btw with regards to finding out sex, I assumed that dp wanted to and that we would find out at 20 week scan. However asked him a couple of weeks ago and he said not bothered if we find out or not so now I don't know if I should find out or wait and see!

emma2617 · 17/09/2008 10:57

I suppose at least we are quiet over Christmas...I am an account manage rfor apallet company so all christmas stuff is going into the supermarkets now, so we have a lull in december, get a little busy in feb for valentines...but I weill miss the easter rush...woohoo!! And I will be on mat leave for our year end woohoo!!!!
I am planning to be off from middle of feb 2009 until Jan 2010...taking my 5 weeks holiday on full pay and the 39 weeks paid mat leave...plus like an extra 4 days unpaid!! I cant wait!

dinny · 17/09/2008 11:09

Babyinbelly - I haven't found out with either of my two and won't with this one - it is such a lovely surprise, it really is...

MKG · 17/09/2008 12:14

HI everyone. I think I'm the only one that will go into labor at work. I get six weeks paid maternity leave and am legally entitled to another 6 weeks unpaid, so I don't want to take anything too early in advance. Plus I work 5 minutes from the hospital, so I think it's the best place for me to be. Also I don't think I could handle being extrememly pregnant and running after my mokeys children.

Missmodular · 17/09/2008 12:33

Am I the only one around here who has a huge bump and has put on loads of weight? I've been looking pregnant since about 8 weeks and have put on half a stone already! I even bought a pair of maternity jeans from Mothercare and had to cut the elastic in the waist because it was too tight! Everyone looks really shocked when I tell them I'm only 15 weeks gone and keep asking if I'm expecting twins . So don't wish too hard for your bumps, we've still got a while to go!

babyinbelly · 17/09/2008 13:21

MKG thats awful. why do you only get that?

MKG · 17/09/2008 13:28

Well 12 weeks is the legal requirement, some jobs get more, but generally 3 months is maternity leave for the most part. I'm lucky to get 6 weeks at my normal pay, because most don't get a paid maternity leave. I went back to work when ds1 was 4 weeks old and when ds2 was 3 months old, who knows if I'll go back after this one though. I told my boss at work, and she was fine and understanding and right now we're leaving it open.

the sad part is, is that most people really can't afford to be off for a long time, because surviving on one salary is impossible.

dinny · 17/09/2008 14:05

I had dd the day after I went on mat leave the first time!!

SunshineSmith · 17/09/2008 14:07

did you have your back packed?

babyinbelly · 17/09/2008 14:23

I can't believe that all your allowed. We get a whole 9months off here! Not all on full pay but we do get something! Never imagined that it wouldn't be the same anywhere else.

On a different note ladies. I am going on a hot air balloon ride tonight despite the flight agency saying do not fly while pregnant. I'm hoping at nearly 16 weeks this is the best time to go without it being a huge risk

What do you think? Would you go or lose £250 because you can no longer fly within the period of time that the ticket is valid for.
(expires in feb 09)

dinny · 17/09/2008 14:35

Sunshine - no, had nothing ready, never thought my first baby would be early!

Babyinbelly - personally I wouldn't go against their advice.

MKG · 17/09/2008 14:54

baby--I would go. What would be the difference between that and flying in an airplane, which you could totally do at 16 weeks.

pumpkinseeds · 17/09/2008 14:56

Hello, could someone add me to the list please? I've been lurking for a few weeks but nervous about joining as I am, cough, 43 and wanted to have my screening tests before I could really relax!

This is dc number 4 and is due on 16 March. Thanks

auntyspan · 17/09/2008 15:00

I think it's something to do with air pressure - a plane cabin is pressurised and a hot air balloon isn't (obviously!) I also think it's something to do with the fact the landing can be a big bump sometimes - my SIL had to cancel a work balloon ride because she was 14 weeks and they told her that was the reason why.

I was off for nearly 2 months at the end of my last pregnancy before DD decided to put in an appearance..... although she was late and I was induced and she STILL didn't want to come out

OP posts:
babyinbelly · 17/09/2008 15:03

I don't understand what effect it not being pressurised has tho. what would happen if I do go?

MKG · 17/09/2008 15:17

Most likely nothing would happen. A local balloon company doesn't recommend women who are far along in pregnancy to go up. But doesn't say anything about early pregnancy.

babyinbelly · 17/09/2008 15:24

I did see one in US that said that on their website. All I can find as far as reasons go is that they class you as a liability so don't want you to go. None of them give any health reasons why otherwise I wouldn't go.

I can't imagine that the landing would be that bad as there are 16 other people in there with you. It can't be dangerous.

MKG · 17/09/2008 15:27

I went on one when I was younger. It was great. There is a balloon festival about 15 minutes away from my house every summer. I can't wait to take the kids up with me someday.

pumpkinseeds · 17/09/2008 16:02

Hello, just got back from the school run and read through my previous post. I have just realised that not only did I interupt the hot air balloon conversation (I've always wanted to have a go!) but I sounded like I was issuing orders !

Can I just say that I would love to join your group as you all sound so lovely! Even though this is number 4, I still worry just as much as I did with the first and it would be nice to have nice people to chat with!
