Brand new thread ladies!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
laweaselmys · 22/09/2008 12:07

aw, mandy, there's still hope. A really good percentage hope. Thoughts are with you and you're not alone. Have you been able to talk much to your DP about it?

Mandy73 · 22/09/2008 16:34

Thanks for the nice words.

Yes, we've talked, cried, gone over the options, been positive, been negative, been sleepless, been kind-of OK, everything. Now we just feel numb and want some answers. It's dreadful not knowing. Lesson learnt: If I ever have another nuchal scan I'll make sure there's a pre-booked CVS for me that very day. This 2,5 week wait is torture (mind you that's because I couldn't have a CVS and nobody could have known that).

laweaselmys · 22/09/2008 19:15

I can't imagine how frustrating it must be to have to wait so long for a yes or no. It was frustrating enough waiting a day to hear this DC's heartbeat (and that s/he was okay) after accident on friday.

Must be so tough sticking out. Is there anything you can distract yourself with in the meantime?

Slickbird · 22/09/2008 20:22

Mandy, hang in there. You never know, you may find the wait will all bring positive news - I'm really keeping everything crossed for you. xx

Hey Kat80! Long time no post! Yes I have battled with our useless HR dept to try and get some answers and although things aren't set in stone, it seems I'll get something but I feel like I'm just not going to actually know exactly what until the time! Which is crap, but no-one seems to be able to give me a concrete answer. Our HR dept really do suck.

I went for my AFP test on Friday and have to wait two weeks now for the results. I did however get to hear the heartbeat for the first time which was great, pounding away. What I found interesting tho was my baby daughter was in the room and she suddenly started getting really upset. It was the sound - it was as if she remembered it from the womb or labour (maybe the poor bugger thought she was going to have to go through it again!). I figured if she had remembered it from the womb, she wouldn't have been upset, so maybe labour. Or maybe she was just hungry.....

Slickbird · 22/09/2008 21:43

I just threw up a bit (am 17wks for God sake!) and then reached for a stick of rock that's been hanging around since DH cycled from Lands End to John O Groats, after demolishing half of it () the baby has started doing sommersaults! Maybe it was the blue chemical coating.....

Slickbird · 22/09/2008 21:45

I'm going to go get some fruit to redeem myself....

superkat · 22/09/2008 21:54

Hello! I am due in March 09.

Slickbird · 22/09/2008 22:15

Hello SuperKat! You'll never do, you're far too brief!! Hope you're keeping well. Am off to bed but see you anon.

Littlemisskiwi · 22/09/2008 22:40

Hey TantiK

Thanks for the kind words. We've been here for four years so I do know quite a lot of people and other mums. I just miss my own mum, especially when I was really ill. Mum just told me on the phone how she's going to stay with my sister to help with her kids whilst she's having a small surgical procedure and it made me think, who would help me in a similar situation...

Great to hear that you are now able to eat huge portions and no longer need to eat every two hours. I'm still at every two hours and find it very boring and repetitive. If I don't eat I'll start off with burps and then be retching before you know it. Yuck!

off to the GP today to see about this painful sore furry tongue of mine....

I think with the time difference, you're all in bed whilst I write. Hope you sleep well

hedgewitch My fingers are crossed for your DH!!

Mandy So glad your still hanging in there...I can only imagine what I would be like in your position. I am thinking of you!!

Just a little update from me...saw midwife yesterday for 16 week appointment and after seeing 4 shocking midwives this one was fabulous, I really liked her!! Listened to bambinos HB again, I dont think that will ever get old!! Midiwfe said...and I quote..."oooh, you're growing a fair size aren't you?" after having a poke around at my belly!! Haha! Made me chuckle, but also made me feel loads better that bambino is growing nicely in there!

I was a little undecided about the SB and downs test (the 16 weeks bloods one) but midwife didnt even mention it yesterday so I let that make my mind up...I am not testing. There is no family history and I am only 22 so Im guessing I have favourable odds anyway!!

Hope everyone is doing okay!

TantiK · 23/09/2008 09:47

Emma - glad you found a midwife you like, it's great if she can share in your excitement too.

I have to wait a little while before my next appointment - I was told second pregnancies fly by but this one seems to be taking ages!

Has anyone bought any pregnancy exercise DVD's? If so, which can you recommend? I am stuck in a tiny village in the Italian Dolomites so the chance of me finding my longed for Pregnancy Pilates class is very slim - so a DVD will have to do!

Littlemisskiwi - I completely understand about wanting your mum. I have my MIL but it really isn't the same at all.

MKG · 23/09/2008 12:23

Good morning everyone. I have my 16 week appointment today, and am very excited, because when it's over, the next one will be the big 20 week scan. I've been super busy lately, and am exhausted and today is no different in the craziness. Oh well.

I hope everyone is doing ok.

superkat · 23/09/2008 13:13

Hi Slickbird,

Ok, here goes:

This is my second pg (DD1 is now 15mo) and I am due on Mother's day :0)

Apart from being ridiculously pregnant looking there is not a great deal going on.

Kat x

babyinbelly · 23/09/2008 14:13

MKG I know how you feel. My 16 week check is on thurs (although will nearly be 17weeks) So then not long at all till 20 week scan. Although I'm more looking forward to being able to say I am half way there then the actual scan. (I had a scan on friday tho so that has made me less worried about the next one.)

kat80 · 23/09/2008 16:18

Hey Slickbird, have a look at this link, www.workingfamilies.org.uk/asp/family_zone/factsheets/pdfs/Atypical.pdf i found it really useful and will use if needed when i eventually tell work that i am pregnant!! (i can struggling to hide it at the mo! but worried about their reaction so keep putting it off!) Will have to tell them very soon tho!!!!

kat80 · 23/09/2008 16:29

babyinbelly and MKG, icant wait for mine either, althoug it wont be until i'm 18 weeks, and scan not until i'm 22 weeks!!! it feels like its taking forever to come around!!! i seem to be getting irrational fears about everything too so could do with having my mind put at ease!!

CaptainKarvol · 23/09/2008 17:36

hello all, can't believe all this talk of second scans! I'll be having my first scan on Thursday (I'll be 14+ weeks) - I just really want to see that this is all real. Even my expanding tummy, chronic constipation and overwhelming tiredness haven't quite convinced me...

Anyone got any good recommendations for maternity clothes? I only have utterly knackered ones left from last time. I can't believe the prices - I bought from Blooming Marvellous last time and either they have got a lot more expensive or my disopsable income has shrunk even more than I thought since having DS. But I have to look smart for work, and nothing fits me any more

AnathemaDevice · 23/09/2008 19:37

2nd scan? My 20 something week one will be my third! Wasn't sure of my dates so what we thought should be the 12 week was actually 10 week, then went back for the actual 12 weeks for the nuchal fold do-dad. If it was up to me I'd have at least one scan a week- still finding it hard to believe that there's someone in there. Can't wait til the kicking starts (though I'm sure I'll regret saying that)- just so I know that it's real. I'm holding back on buying/hiring a doppler, I know I really don't need one, and I can;t afford it. Would be nice though.
As for maternity clothes... Is there a reason for them being so flippin' expensive? Surely there's not that much more material in them? It seems so unfair to charge so much for something that won't be worn for very long. I very rarely buy clothes new (most of my stuff is from charity shops), so buying clothes in shops, at full price, is going to be a bit of a shocker.
Do Marks and Spencer do maternity clothes? Only my mum works there so I can take advantage of her staff discount!

Slickbird · 23/09/2008 19:44

At least most of you get two scans! We only get one here. I'm going to have to find the money if we want a 20 week scan and that's only 3 weeks away.

Thanks for the link Kat80, I'll have a look at that. TELL your work, you're allowed to be pregnant and they're not allowed to treat you badly. Mine, I have to say, have been fantastic, but then I know I've been lucky. My last place weren't so great. Which is why I'm not there anymore!

Slickbird · 23/09/2008 20:13

Kat - I had a look at that link and it is really useful, thanks. I'm going to print it at work and go through some of the points with my boss as, in the nicest way, she's clueless too! Our HR dept is crap and don't know anything. I think I'll call the number too as it was interesting about them saying that a fixed contract should be extended or a reason given, but my situation is slightly different as I am covering maternity leave (although I don't think she is coming back). So I think they could really help me. Thanks!

lollipopz · 24/09/2008 10:29

Any one feeling movement yet? I think i may have a wee bit! Kinda freaking out now not getting my scan till a week today and i will be 16 weeks then! Was in tears last night feel like i've not got much of a bump and thinking every thing is in my head, really can't wait to get this scan and see whats going on in there its torture waiting this long!

CaptainKarvol · 24/09/2008 10:39

AnathemaDevice M&S do do maternity - our local store doesn't and I'm not sure whether they're stocked widely, but they have them online (staff discount sounds good). I'm still dithering, not spending any money, and wearing my aged maternity trousers.

And another thing (rant), why do maternity wear manufacturers assume every one has a 29'' inside leg? I'm displaying some very tatty socks to the world in these ankle exposing beauties...

lollipopz I was trying to figure out whether what I could feel at 5.20 this morning (when DS woke me up) was movement or wind! Know how you feel about the scan - 16 weeks is late isn't it?

babyinbelly · 24/09/2008 11:02

Morning all.

I have brought all my maternity clothes off ebay. Got a really good pair of new look trousers for next to nothing because the seller forgot to put the size on the ad. I would recommend this way of getting clothes although I have had some that dont fit so will have to relist these.

I have definatly felt movement. Last week I wasn't sure but this week know that I have. Evening seems to be the most active time.

laweaselmys · 24/09/2008 12:01

Just had a look at ebay but nothing there for me (I'm still a size 6 despite my rapidly expanding belly...) Was thinking about making a day of going to london and looking there. Might have more luck in bigger stores with larger maternity departments. (I don't usually buy clothes online... but it looks like I might have to resort to this!)

I have felt some movement! Rolling feelings. It's really lovely. My scan is this time tomorrow and Jr is moving now so hopefully I will see them wriggling about then.

Anybody else with a late scan hoping to find out the sex early?
