Hello

I have just found out that I am pregnant and calculate that the baby is due on 1 May. It's a bit early for me to be getting excited but I can't help it!

Is anyone else due in May?

I having many cramps today and scares me too. I just came back from the park with my DC and completely thought that AF had come. Thanks not. You are right these 12 weeks are a nightmare.

charlie1000 · 27/08/2008 17:56

you're right, it's horrible just waiting it out and so hard trying not to analyse every cramp or niggle. the first few weeks seems like a lifetime and then it flies by. I remember feeling like I wanted to slow my first PG down when I got to around 7months 'cos it went by so quickly.

Have you started telling people yet? I've told immediate family but not friends or work yet. Bloody hard tho, it's kinda nice to be able to talk about it! Makes it feel more real and not like a figment of my imagination.

chicadee · 27/08/2008 18:44

Hello Everyone.. This is my first Mumsnet post in years. I found out I'm due on 5th May and thought I'd check back in. Have DD aged 6.5 so I think I've got the biggest gap out of everyone here so far. No symptoms yet, but I'm sure I'll wake up any morning now floored by nausea and tiredness... Congratulations everyone

charlie1000 · 27/08/2008 19:17

Congratulations chicadee, great news. I'm due same date as you. How are you feeling so far?

inni · 27/08/2008 19:32

Welcome and congrats chicadee. I haven´t told anyone cos I want to be 100% sure everything is all right but I´m showing already so I guess it´s a matter of time until someone suggest it. I can´t say that I´m just fatter and they will go for it. I want to wait until the three months but I don´t think I can keep the secret for such a long time.

Momino · 27/08/2008 19:58

Congratulations chicadee. i'm waiting for symptoms but just have slight cramping and bloating. the absence of AF has been the telltale sign. I do feel like i'm showing already - my tummy is just stuck out over my jeans (or is it that I never lost the baby belly from last year?).

ScaryHairy · 27/08/2008 21:17

Hello everyone and congratulations Chicadee . I've added you to the list. I reckon there must be big advantages to having a decent gap between your children - your DD is old enough to know what's going on, to get excited with you and to help out too. Mine on the other hand will turn into a howling monkey when her universe gets invaded...

It's hard knowing whether to tell people, isn't it? I would love to tell my mum, but having had 2 pregnancies fail this year I don't want to drag her along on that rollercoaster if I can help it. Still I have a scan at the end of next week so hopefully everything will be fine and I will see a heartbeat (although it may be too early) and then I will be able to tell who I like. I reckon I will keep quiet for several more weeks with many people in order to avoid all those "haven't you had that baby yet?" questions that you get in the last month!

Have any of you been to see the Dr yet?

I don't expect to have a bump any time soon, although I am finding it harder to suck in my 2 year old baby belly!

Morning girls
To tell you the truth I would have live to get an appointment already but I don't speak Czech so I relay on my DH to do this kind of thing. He has got the busiest week at work and hasn't got time to make the phone call so I'll try to get it done next week cos I can't wait.
Hey momino have you found out your EDD?
I've been reading so much in this forum about mc that got a bit scared this time around and prefer not to tell so soon.
It was a great idea join you in this adventure and have other woman who are having the same feelings, worries and happiness as you.

BrightSideOfLife · 28/08/2008 10:57

Morning all!

Welcome chicadee Congratulations!

I also keep feeling like AF is about to start, hence lots of dashing to the bathroom to check! I didn't have any cramping or period-like pain with my last pregnancy (In fact - I remember telling the doctor I was worried about the lack of cramping) so it is worrying to feel it this time. Luckily - I can see from all of you that it is normal

We haven't told anyone yet, but are seeing our best friends on Saturday and might tell them then. She is pregnant and due in October, a week before our due date would have been with the last pregnancy...which has been hard on our relationship, so I really want to share this happy news with her. We probably won't tell anyone else until we have had a re-assurance scan!

I see the doctor tomorrow afternoon but remember it being quite an anticlimax last time. At least I get to choose my hospital! I can't decide between two - both are quite good. I need to get Googling I think!

ScaryHairy · 28/08/2008 10:59

Where are you Brightsideoflife? Which hospitals are you choosing between?

OP posts:
Momino · 28/08/2008 11:19

well just took another test - didn't even have to wait a half minute before the pink line appeared brightly. there's no question.

I also tried to calculate my due date but I can't remember when my last period was in july and came up with EDD 30/4.... but can I stay with you guys since I'm uncertain? I'm sure the April mums to be are great but I've spent this week with you and feel at home.

Am going to doc today to tell news. She's going to sigh when she sees me as I visit her almost every week (!) - been going through anxiety and PND issues and have a 2nd home at the surgery. Ironically, i feel much better this week anyway - must be the Happy Pregnancy Hormones.

Am certainly not nauseous yet - I'm eating crisps and coleslaw!

Hope you're all well this beautiful august day.

Momino · 28/08/2008 11:20

BrightSideOfLife · 28/08/2008 11:22

Hi scary

I am in West London. My choice is between Queen Charlotte & Kingston.

Kingston is closer in distance but Queen Charlotte is easier to get to.

I have a third option, that I won't go near ever, ever again after receiving appalling care during my miscarriage in March.

BrightSideOfLife · 28/08/2008 11:32

sorry momino - I cross posted! Congrats on that strong line and good luck at the doctors today It is great that you are feeling a little better, rather you than me eating those crisps & coleslaw!! My breakfast was a piece of plain toast

Momino · 28/08/2008 11:36

hi BrightSide, toast is good, much more nutritious than crisps.

i think i'll take a pronatal vit along with my crisps.

BrightSideOfLife · 28/08/2008 11:44

true momino, but no-where near as tastey

abbymeg · 28/08/2008 12:46

Had to say a massive congratulations to Scaryhairy! Another TTC graduate! And 1st May is a fabulous due date - my birthday

inni · 28/08/2008 16:53

Congrats momino again and I think you should stick with us no matter your EDD. I feel like home as well with all of you talking about your thing. I think the horrible metallic taste is finally fading away. I have a problem with chocolate cos I know I shouldn't eat it but I'm craving it a lot. I'm relieve to hear that somebody is experiencing my same fear BSOL although in a nice way. I can't stop going to check if there is something.
I don't really remember well but I think that here they do an internal ultrasound from 6 weeks to see if everything is in order and is when they check the heart bit. It's the same over there?

Momino · 28/08/2008 17:05

just got back from the doc - it was just a formal acknowledgement of the pregnancy, no test, nothing. I guess the home tests are so accurate means doctors don't really need to do anything extra.

I also made my booking appointment with the midwife but it's not until 3 Oct! I'll be 10 weeks which sounds ages away. Our surgery is so busy. Last pregnancy care was awful - never saw the same midwife twice. Guess I'll just go with it.

Inni, here they do a dating ultrasound scan at 12-14 weeks and an anomoly ultrasound scan at 20weeks. I wish I could have a six week ultrasound - would love to have a heartbeat check. Let us know if/when you go.

I think in the US, care is a lot more comprehensive;I know my friends, sisters seemed to have so many OB/GYN visits in comparison to here. It would be nice to have that reassurance.

Hope all are well today. Keep us updated.

ScaryHairy · 28/08/2008 19:41

Hi everyone

Momino - congratulations re the good strong line. Those GP appointments are a bit of an anti-climax, aren't they?! Definitely stay here with us - these babies are going to come out all over the place anyway.

Thank you for the congratulations AbbyMeg. You must be coming up to your third trimester now, yes? I still remember what a surprise your quick BFP was!

Brightsideoflife I had my daughter at QC. I have to say I really hated it but I suspect that it because I was not in the birthing centre, so everything was very medicalised and the midwife did every intervention in the book (many of them needlessly I suspect). The doctors were great though and if you have a difficult pregnancy they are the best. I don't know anything about Kingston.

Inni why can't you eat chocolate? It sounds like my idea of hell! As far as I am concerned the whole point of pregnancy si the "eating for two" and yes, I know you're not meant to eat more than normal, but well, it just seems like the perfect excuse! I am also finding myself doing repeated tests. I did a clearblue digital this morning which told me "pregnant 2-3 weeks" so I guess everything is currently on track (hoorah!)

I hope everyone is well.

inni · 29/08/2008 07:23

Morning everyone
I think that here when you're expecting the dr take good care. As soon as you tell them you preg. you get an appointment every three weeks where they control your weight, BP and urine, and the Gyn will check you up and as soon as they can find it outside (I don't remember which week) they will let you listen the heart bit with the microphone on your belly. This first ultrasound is vaginal one to see if the sack and everything is in place and cos it's so small they need to do it from inside.(sorry, maybe tmi)
The chocolate thing is that I don't think is good to eat it when you are preg. But I'm not eating more than I usually do so I guess shouldn't do much harm. Not metallic taste anymore although still sickness.
I think I'll testing one again this weekend but I'm really scared about not getting the strong line. I hope I do.
PS. If any time any of you think I'm posting too often or talking too much just let me know. It's the lack of friends over here and starting to feel like friends with you all.

charlie1000 · 29/08/2008 08:50

Morning everyone,

Momino I agree wit you about the care here, it's not that great. I was so disappointed in my last pregnancy as like you I didn't see the same midwife twice which is pretty rubbish really as you have no continuity whatsoever. I saw my Dr at beginning of week as she needs to monitor my BP since I'm off meds now. Spoke to midwife who says I need to book in at around 7/8 weeks and then I think it's a waiting game until first scan at around 12weeks. I'd definitely like to have more 'proof' in the meantime as I seem to remember first booking in appmt being mostly about the paperwork

Inni no need to feel you're posting too much, it's always lovely checking posts on here and reading new messages. I think it's cool having 'cyber' pregnancies all togerther! I'm sure pregnancy test will absolutely fine, try not to worry- the fact that you're having sickness is reassuring I would say

Brightsideoflife Sounds as though you have a couple of good choices there which is always a good thing. Have/Will you had a chance to lookaround either of them. It might make your decision easier.

Hope everyone's feeling good and not too tired, sick, worried etc

SpangleMaker · 29/08/2008 09:49

Hello, can I (very nervously) join you?

I got a BFP yesterday with the new-fangled ClearBlue digi trial test - 4+5 and due on 4 May I think. It's still not sunk in yet, this is the 8th month we've been trying and I'm 37 so I was starting to worry that time was running out! If all goes well this will be our first DC so very excited and scared.

Symptom-wise all I've had is sore boobs for a week, which now seem to be wearing off, and a bit of light-headedness for the last couple of days - but that could be the excitement!

I've had to pluck up courage to join this thread as I'm still in disbelieving mode and of course really nervous something will go wrong - I think I need some virtual hand-holding!

Congratulations to you all on your BFPs

inni · 29/08/2008 10:16

You are more than welcome and sure will give u a huge. You must be really excited. Your EDD is the same as mine I still don't believe it either. Although this is my third DC what I know how you feel on the first pregnancy where everything is to be discovered. We will help you out in anything you need. Congratulations!!!

SpangleMaker · 29/08/2008 10:41

Thank you for the welcome inni and congratulations to you too It will be lovely and so helpful to have advice from a more experienced mum.

I just went to have another look at my test ( sad I know!) but the battery had gone. I think I might have to get another test just to make sure I'm not dreaming!
