Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
norash40 · 02/03/2005 18:16

Hey Bonym,

How long did you take them for and what was the dosage?

norash40 · 02/03/2005 18:17

And how many weeks pregnant are you?

3mummy · 02/03/2005 18:33

I am 37wks today. I was never sick in this pregnancy but had all day nausea and didn't eat much for the first 3mths, was taking multi vits and eating the minimum, but lost loads of weight, mind you I needed to . I keep saying to dh this pg has been better for me than a year of going to weightwatchers!! .

3mummy · 02/03/2005 18:36

Have to add, I can still fit into my pre pg clothes now, I was sooooo fat!! Dh reckons he won't recognise me when I've had the baby. Just a good excuse for a whole new wardrobe if you ask me!!

norash40 · 02/03/2005 18:41

Good for you 3Mummy, I too have put on very little weight. I did not get much sickness at all throughout the pregnancy but I have not been eating anymore than I did before I got pg. The only problem is that my tummy is almost the same size as the rest of my body hehehehe.

3mummy · 02/03/2005 18:46

I know that feeling - I do look somewhat like Mr Greedy now . But on the plus side I have lost my double chin and 3 dress sizes .

Is this your first Norash40? Do you know what you are having?

norash40 · 02/03/2005 18:47

Yep,
This is indeed my first and it's a boy. I am so happy I can't wait to hold him. I wish he would come already.

3mummy · 02/03/2005 18:52

Aaaawww, am excited for you! My first was 3wks early and was a surprise, I was always so against finding out at the scan - until this one, and then the little b*gger wouldn't change position so we could get a good look......... so it's surprises all the way for me.

Good luck with the early start

norash40 · 02/03/2005 19:01

Thank you,

All the best to you too. I just hope he does not get any heavier coz right now I don't see how I can get any bigger. Forgive me if I am asking a stupid question but how did early labour feel for you?

3mummy · 02/03/2005 19:15

Daren't answer this..... dd1 labour was awful, waters broke hours before pains started then I went into full blown contractions every couple of minutes... not a "normal" labour apparently, so ignore that one - was told after I should've been taken for c section.

dd2 labour was text book and (almost) enjoyable! Had a mild contraction at noon (bit like a strong period pain) that lasted 30 secs or so, then another 45 mins later then they got closer and gradually stronger. I looked after my toddler, phoned hubby, made lunch then dinner, took dd1 to brothers house to stay night at around 8pm, had a cuppa and a chat (still contracting, but very manageable), went home got in bath, washed my hair and got to hospital about midnight - still coping easily with pain. In fact the labout lasted 18hrs from first contraction til birth and I only had an epidural 2hrs before delivery as I wasn't sure how long it was going to go on for and I needed a kip!

I really do recommend using a tens machine - it got me through the first 16hrs, and I have hired one for this time too.

Every labour is totally different, 1st was 9hrs 40mins, so fairly short, well half the time of my 2nd, I am sooo hoping this is like the 2nd .

Are you getting any pains then? Braxton hicks?

norash40 · 02/03/2005 19:32

I am having pain all over, some feel like perion pains others just sharp pains all over but I am getting used to it. Oh well cannot complain.

emandbump · 02/03/2005 21:18

Hello ladies - i hope you don't mind my barging in on your March thread as despite being due 27th Feb I am still hanging on in here! Just wanted to say hi - mumsnet has been helping to keep me sane while I wait this out!

Pidge · 02/03/2005 21:55

Well, I've got some slight bloody discharge thing going on - sorry TMI! Not quite like the show I had last time round, but I guess something is happening. Last time it was still another 3-4 days before labour started, so I'm not getting too carried away. Flipping dp needs to emerge from his sickbed before I do any labouring!

LOL 3Mummy at your dp and the mars bars! I've just scoffed an enormous slab of the leftover chocolate truffle cake I made. I'm beginning to feel rather pleased the dinner party got cancelled, I could get used to this style of pudding every evening.

I kept thinking about doing raspberry leaf stuff - but true to form have been too disorganised to do anything about it. Oh well - will stick to the chocolate instead.

norash - my early labour last time round was - well, as mentioned a show first, then 2 days later light period pains, then 2 days (yes, 48 hours!) of painful but manageable contractions every 5-10 minutes, then wham bam, full on contractions every 1-2 minutes for 8 hours, then epidural for another 10 hours before dd emerged. So I had days and days of preparation. But as 3Mummy says - it's different for everyone. The joy of childbirth - there's just no predicting how it'll be for you. The thing is - if you do get a really slow build up, try to sleep and rest as much as you can early on. I got so excited thinking "this is it - I'm in labour" and got no sleep for two nights and was completely worn out before the 'proper' contractions actually got going.

emandbump - welcome to march! We seem to have managed quite a few impatient babies born in February, so we need a few of you February ladies to keep us company over here!

tamula · 02/03/2005 22:05

Evening ladies,

Congrats to all new babies

I just thought i'd tell you all about my scan appointment today, well it was to check that my placenta had moved around and was no longer low-lying, it had, so no problems there.

So seeing as we have only 3wks+2days left to go we asked the sonographer to not let the sex of the baby slip out or to not accidentally show us or whatever else, we clearly expressed our choice to have a surprise for our first baby. So what did she do? She told us beyond a shawdow of a doubt that we're having a girl

We are pleased and glad she's healthy and alls well in our pregnancy but couldnt help but feeling a little peeved that she cocked up and ruined our surprise. Obviously her excuse was that she thought we said the opposite, but she wasnt very friendly and hid the screen away from us so we couldnt see a thing and wouldnt give us a photo of the scam image, so I tend to think she done it to be mean.

Cow.

3mummy · 02/03/2005 22:06

Hi pidge.... I'll keep my fingers crossed for you hopefully you'll be labouring tomorrow !!
Eat lots of choc cake - get plenty of energy .

Welcome emandbump, hope things get moving for you too!

I am off to bed, oh, I'm such a lightweight. But my girls are still poorly and shall no doubt be coughing the night away in my bed again . The joys of parenthood eh? Shall have to get a bigger bed when no.3 arrives. NB; I only bed share in times of illness and when dh is away at work - otherwise I kick him out into the kids bedroom on to a matress on the floor to look after them .... yup, he's a godsend!

G'night all, hope to see you on the birth announcements tomorrow evening pidge !

norash40 · 02/03/2005 22:41

Goodnight 3Mummy

norash40 · 02/03/2005 22:41

Hey guys is anyone in here?

bonym · 02/03/2005 22:47

Welcome emandbump - the more the merrier!
Pidge - how exciting - keeping my fingers crossed for you. If we don't hear from you in the next couple of days we'll assume labour has started! Good luck .
Norash - I really can't remember how long I took the tablets for or the dosage - it was 7 years ago so I feel a bit like a first timer again! I'll be 37 weeks on Friday and started taking the tablets last week, but, as I said I keep forgetting (!) so it's not been every day! Bottle says to take 2 a day though - although I've not taken more than 1 a day - I'm a bit worried they might be too effective and make this labour even faster and more painful than the last

bonym · 02/03/2005 22:50

Tamula - sorry about your rubbish sonographer but tbh you could have predicted a girl - if you check the rundown of this thread, almost all of us are having girls! (Of those who know, anyway!) . Must have been something in the air last June

norash40 · 02/03/2005 23:00

I have been taking 3/day, hope this will not have any ill effects. Did anyone have strong period like pains when having braxton hicks? It's my first time and I am scared that I will not know when labour starts. I think I am in labour though, what do contractions feel like?

bonym · 02/03/2005 23:05

Norash - I have been getting Braxton Hicks with strong period-type pains for the last week. Don't worry - real labour pains tend to be very regular so you should be able to differentiate them from BH's

norash40 · 02/03/2005 23:07

Thanks for that BonnyM I think I will sleep better tonight (if I can).

norash40 · 02/03/2005 23:14

By the way the bottle for my capsules says one can have upto 6 capsules a day

popsycal · 03/03/2005 08:18

Pidge - sounds promising!!! I feel like cack today. sick of constant braxton hicks keeping me awake. DH has decided to take a day off work today. It has snowed loads again here - looks like soe of us are going to have snowy march babies which I bet is quite unusual!!

Sending labour vibes to all of those who are due now/fed up.
Today is one of my due dates (I have 3!!! Don't ask) but 7th is the one they are using at the hospital. So who will be next then?????

Leogaela · 03/03/2005 08:39

Hello all!

Wow! I have done my best to catch up on how everyone's doing while Niklas is taking a snooze! It si really exciting watching what's going on so I'll be logging on everyday if possible.

Welcome to the new people! I know the Feb thread people would rather not be here, but....!

Oceanmama - Switzerland is 1 hour ahead of UK, so I guess Madeline pipped Niklas to the post by an hour!

Still now news from Shalaa or Preggiemum???

And Steppemum?

Pidge - Hope it is a show and the baby is soon on its way!!!!! I'll be checking in quite often today to see if you have disappeared! I also didn't buy a single item of babies clothes. I got some second hand and now people have got us lots for presents so we have loads. I kind of wish people would buy toys and not all clothes though.

Tamula - I understand about you not wanting to know if its a girl or a boy, I would have been really annoyed if I had been told not wanting to know. Our doctor knew but didn't give us a clue at all. However if its any consolation when Niklas was born I only wanted to know if he was OK, if he was a girl or a boy didn't interest me at all.

Norash - supportive partner is really important. dh has been more than fantastic and I think that's one reason why I have managed to be so relaxed these first days and really enjoy Niklas.

Someone asked somewhere about sore nipples and breast engorgment - so far so good for me it may be early days but I have no problems - I have been following the instructions the nurses at the hospital gave me :-
massage my breasts lots before feeding and massage any hard sore bits any time.
As for nipples they kept giving me sage tea bags to put on my nipples which seemed to help.
I also always rub a bit of breast milk on after feeding and the hospital gave me a cream which seems to relieve any soreness very quickly, its called Rafael Natural Nipple Care Ointment for nursing mothers - its fantastic!

I am feeling much, much better and am so thankful that he is a good sleeper at night, I don't know what I would have done otherwise! We took him out for a short walk yesterday in the buggy. He wasn't too happy at first and dh got really upset as its -4 here and he was convinced it was too cold. We had him wrapped up in loads of layers so I didn't see a problem! He seemed fine and warm and slept once we got going and stopped fussing!

Sorry.... a long one, but so much to catch up on!
