can i just add my bit ladies ? ta!
i'm 37 wks now, due 22nd but having e/c/s on 16th. everything is a real effort now - drying slef after shower, shaving legs, putting socks on, uncomfortable in bed...!! fed up of agonising aching hips now. we know we're having a girl too. already got ds age 4. just about ready for baby. had some building work and decorating done last few wks. just need to do babys room this wkend.
hope you're all ok - not too many complaints!!

norash40 · 03/03/2005 10:06

Goodmorning ladies,

I see we are all well today, apart from the usual disconforts. I did not sleep last night, thought I was in labour. But it was not meant to be, oh well I hope he comes early.

How comes some people have more than one due date?

popsycal · 03/03/2005 10:24

My due dates are confusing mainly because I have quite long cycles and late ovulation. So according to LMP my due date was 2/3/05 but I knew that would be put back as the baby hadnt beem conceived for it to be due then! My 12 week scan put it back to the 7/3/05 (Monday) then a subsequent scan said 3/3/05 (today) but apparently the 12 week scan is the most accurate for dating.......

charlie95 · 03/03/2005 10:26

last time on ds, 4 yrs ago, i had 2/3 due dates each person i saw whoo needed to work it out gave me a different date each time. even then when he was born he was apparently 2 wks over then the midwife said he cant possibly be over, but early because all the white stuff still on his skin.
thankfully this time round all equal one date! but shes going to be 6 days early!

bonym · 03/03/2005 10:28

Morning everyone! I also didn't sleep well again - can't seem to get more than 2 hours on the trot in before waking up and having to turn over or go to the loo!
Norash - I think the reason for multiple due dates is that they give you a estimated date when you have your "dating" scan at approx 13 weeks, but you also have a date calculated by your last period. My scan date is 25th (which is the one they are going on) but my date by lmp is 29th. If I work out the date according to when I actually ovulated, it's the 28th!

3mummy · 03/03/2005 10:29

Morning everyone.

Well I managed to get 5hrs unbroken sleep last night, and feel better for it! The girls slept pretty well, not much coughing til early hours this morning, so hopefully they are on the mend now .

So on to the next disaster.... our boiler has packed up, I have no hot water or heating so I have to phone British Gas and get someone round today before we freeze . Of course I have to boil kettle so I can wash my face and apply slap before I see anyone !! As if I don't have enuff to do today?

With regards to the aches an pains (esp the hip pain) I can only reccommend you treat yourselves to a visit to an osteopath. I've been going almost weekly since I had an accident last year, then when I got pg I started suffering SPD - caused by the accident . I feel soooo much better after going for each session, he even reckons he's working on my pelvis to make it an easier birth ........ will let you know on that one!

So we reckon it's girls for the rest of us do we? Looks like I shall have myself a set of "charmed ones"! Shall I re name my older two Pru and Piper? And should I call this one Paige or Pheobe? LOL

Norash, all I recommend is to time your pains and if they get regular you are prob in early labour.... still keeping fingers crossed for you and pidge

bonym · 03/03/2005 10:34

3mummy - I agree on the osteopath recommendation - I have also been seeing one intermittently - she got rid of my headaches in early pregnancy (haven't had a single one since) and has also helped with back and hip pain. I've not been for a while as have been ok but my back is starting to play up again the last few days ( at night mostly) so I am debating whether to go back.

tamula · 03/03/2005 10:37

Hi all,

Bonym, you are exactly the same as me, by LMP i'm due on the 29th but by dating scan 25th but by the scan yesterday she said 20th! I'm ready now!

...

Thanks for letting me vent off last night I feel better today

norash40 · 03/03/2005 10:53

Thank you 3Mummy, I am due 29th of March and as I keep saying can't wait to have him. My hips were hurting so much I cannot believe it, I also feel pain in my lower abdomen like fairly strong period pain.

3mummy · 03/03/2005 11:11

Norash - If the lower pain is more in the groin it could well be a bit of spd, I'd contact your MW if it's stopping you sleeping. The only other advice is, don't sit with your legs apart and try to sit up as straight as poss. I'm terrible because I like to curl up in the corner of the sofa but this just makes me ache more. Sitting up right with lots of cushions round me and my feet up......... with a cup of tea, mars bar and contented children playing quietly in the playroom............... works for me.

norash40 · 03/03/2005 11:19

Hey 3Mummy,
What is SPD?

3mummy · 03/03/2005 11:23

Can't spell what it stands for ... Symphisis Pubis Dysfunction. Means that when the body is pg and naturally releases the hormone to make your ligaments more stretchy it releases too much and the ligaments that hold the pelvis together (I think it has 3 joints) go really slack, this causes pain and inflamation.

norash40 · 03/03/2005 11:25

Thanks, Seing Midwife tomorrow will surely mention it.

3mummy · 03/03/2005 11:30

I'm seeing mine tomorrow too .

Missed my 36wk check last wk, I am so forgetful these days - I knew I couldn't go but kept forgetting to call, I hate just not turning up to stuff. Ah well, she didn't seem upset when she called, just concerned that I might have had baby already!

Need to get right down to it and properly pack my bags, but it has been 4yrs since I did this last ......... any reminders as to what to take would be gratefully received .

3mummy · 03/03/2005 11:32

Bonym - go back!! You'll feel so much better, might even help start things off, all that pelvic movement .

norash40 · 03/03/2005 11:42

I think I am going to have a nap now.

Pidge · 03/03/2005 14:10

Well, I'm still here! And still getting pinkish discharge (lovely!), so I guess my cervix is getting itself ready. To be honest I don't want anything to happen too fast as dp is STILL off work sick. I got a bit stressed yesterday thinking about what would happen if I went into labour whilst he is still confined to bed. But hopefully the babe will stay put long enough for him to recover. He's been asleep again all day, apart from getting up to eat lunch, but CLAIMS he's feeling a bit better. This has been some virus - he's never been off work this long.

I've had a busy busy morning - dropped dd off at the childminders, then nearly chickened out of my morning swim, but went for it and am so glad I did as it was blissful. Dashed around our local shops and then home to bake a quiche for lunch. Also bought stuff to do baking of biscuits and fruit loaf, as I was just reading a childbirth book where it recommended having some 'project' to work on in early labour to take your mind off it. So have decided my project will be cakes and cookies!

Leogaela - sounds like you're doing brilliantly. I remember feeling like I was on a rollercoaster for the first few weeks after dd was born - one minute on top of the world, the next minute weeping over the baby! What an amazing time it is though - I'm getting quite excited just at the thought of it all over again.

Popsycal - fingers crossed for some action for you soon.

3Mummy - poor you with the boiler - hope you're not frozen. Ours got serviced last week, as dp suddenly got nervous about it packing up in the middle of my homebirth! Anyway, it's fine but the dishwasher has gone into a sulk and broken down, which is less drastic, but I'd forgotten just how much washing up we generate. Plus I can barely reach the sink over my bump!

Tamula - can't believe the sonographer screwed that up for you. I had a similar request when I went for a 3-D scan at 17 weeks, and the guy doing it was great and didn't let anything slip and steered clear of the vital region. At least the placenta is in the right place, and all is well.

Gosh, sorry this got very long .... !

jambot · 03/03/2005 14:40

Saw my gynae yesterday. Am now 38.5 weeks and wanted her to give me an opinion on whether she was going to intervene or let me go to full term. She had previously said we may have to do a c/s or at least induce as my baby girl is very big. Yesterday her head circumference measured 10cm, which is as much as the max dilation of the cervix! She doesn't seem too concerned as she said the baby is lying very well and is fully engaged. Apparently positioning is vital if it is touch and go regarding the bigger babies and getting stuck, tearing etc. Quite relieved as I'm really hoping things take their natural course. Still have a stinking cold and it won't seem to go away. Can't breathe and am constantly blowing and coughing!
Horrified when I got on the scale yesterday, as I seem to have picked up so much weight. Weird really, because I don't really feel that I have. All my early preggie clothes still fit and I don't look too enormous. But the scale says otherwise! Doctor says she thinks it is mainly water, as my body is so swollen and that I should drop the weight quickly. God, I hope so, and that what with B/feeding I'll be looking vaguely decent sooner rather than later. Although apparently this weight loss - b/feeding business doesn't seem to apply to everyone. What do the more experienced mums think?

bonym · 03/03/2005 14:54

jambot - with dd I breastfed and got my figure back very quickly - I think it also helped that I would go out walking with the pram almost every day. We lived in central London at the time so walking everywhere was often easier than getting in the car. Anyway, hope things work out for you the way you want - would you prefer induction/c-section or rather nature took its course?

Pidge - our dishwasher also packed up day before yesterday and I stood at the sink doing washing up until I realised that the pain in my back was caused by having to lean over because my bump made it impossible to get close enough! We bought a new one yesterday (Currys have £170 off a Zanussi which seemed like a good deal ) so we're back to doing the dishes the civilised (lazy!) way . Glad to hear your dh is on the mend - keep your legs crossed a little bit longer!

3mummy · 03/03/2005 15:11

On the breastfeeding/weightloss front I found it just made me more hungry!! But I'm a pig anyway, and love a good excuse to eat .

Saying that, I bottle fed dd2 because I had no milk what so ever (lots of lovely probs after that birth ), and I still put weight on as I was consoling myself with choc over not being able to breastfeed her!

Pidge · 03/03/2005 16:20

3mummy - yup I've been getting killer backache trying to reach the sink. Anyway, two bits of good news - 1. dp has been out of bed and conscious for over an hour this afternoon and 2. during this time he claims to have fixed the dishwasher by doing something clever with the outlet pipe .

So hopefully I'm rescued from doing the dishes, and maybe if this baby decides to put in an appearance dp will not just sleep through it!

Also our tiler has been back to fix the tiles which had fallen off the bathroom wall, so we might be able to have showers again from tomorrow! All round domestic bliss.

jambot - on the breastfeeding front - the world seems to divide into those women who hang on to the extra weight for as long as they're feeding, and those for whom the pounds just fall off. I was in the latter camp - I was constantly hungry and scoffing on an unprecedented scale, but quickly got skinnier than I was before getting pregnant.

sweeney · 03/03/2005 17:48

pidge you're v tolerant of all this attention ill seeking from your old man! what do they call it? 'coulade' or something.
still right there with the agonising hip pain. pretty much can't sleep for more than 30 mins or something. but been sleeping on and off through today. i know it's good practice for when the baby arrives and sleep patterns have to be determined by baby's needs.
am i being weird, but i think we get too hung up about due dates. surely it's up to the baby as much as anything? nature isn't really a science, and i hate all this medical intervention when it isn't for emergencies. but HEY! come my time do you reckon i might change my mind??????
bonym, i've read birth and beyond. yehudi gordon set up the birth unit where i'm having our baby. we've got a class with him next tues. it's such a good hospital, so far.
good luck for next days pidge.

bonym · 03/03/2005 18:01

Sweeney - I'm with you all the way on due dates/ intervention etc. - if this baby dares to go overdue I shall resist induction vociferously!! Well that's the plan anyway - may change my mind of course when it comes down to it! I am sooo jealous that you're going to have a class with Yehudi Gordon - if anyone's going to be well prepared for labour it will be you! Be sure to pass any hot tips on to us not so lucky ones won't you!
Pidge - glad to hear all your problems are getting sorted - I guess dh MUST be feeling better if he's managed to fix the dishwasher - maybe now you body will let you go into labour .
Went out to yummy lunch with dh today but since getting home again have been feeling really nauseous - maybe it was just too yummy and rich for my poor squished digestive system to take at the moment!

jambot · 03/03/2005 19:39

As of yesterday we have no shower or bath for a week. The plumbers are putting in our new bathroom and that means we have to go to my mums for a shower! And I am due any day now! We have a drought on at the moment and you're not really meant to be having a bath, only a shower. But tonight I was sooo uncomfortable that I had a wonderful bath. Feel much better for it and hope to be able to sleep well tonight. Someone sent us a fax at 1 am this morning and woke me up - could have screamed as I was in a deep sleep. The night was wrecked after that. DH better get our bathroom sorted ASAP or I will become slightly hysterical. Talk about last minute!!
