I heard that you should not take rasberry leaf tea before 36 weeks I think or even 37 as it can bring things on when your body not ready. I am avoiding as had it last time and not sure that was what made my contractions come on for a week before DD born and also still not finished the loft so the longer she stays in there the better although not for my swollen parts!!!!

CantSleepWontSleep · 03/09/2008 16:38

Oh gosh poor twinkly. Can't imagine much worse than a month in hospital, so hope that she is allowed home soon. I know that when I had low lying placenta they said that if/when I bled they would keep me in until I'd gone 24 hours without any bleeding, so hoping that maybe her hospital will do the same.

Lozza - arnica can be started a week before you anticipate labour. It won't do any harm if you end up taking it for longer, so I'd start a week before your due date. Someone else posted the dose recommended earlier, so I must find it and remind myself of that too.
Oh, and ignore your stupid consultant. He can't tell the weight of the baby just by looking at your bump. Sometimes big bumps are just lots of fluid and a weeny baby inside .

I didnt realise Raspberry leaf was contraindicated for women with history of miscarriage. Do we know why? Thats me buggered then. I was hoping to try everything possible to avoid the dreaded two week wait when I go overdue again. Lucky all the shops down here are sold out then.

Haircuts, such a minefield. My DD2 is 4 next week and has only had one haircut in her life. She has beautiful long blond hair, which is odd because no body else in the family has, she thinks she is a princess and at the smallest mention of scissors she runs away. It is beginning to get tatty as well.
I like the idea of blond curls on a boy. Beautiful.

ajm200 · 03/09/2008 16:57

In America they tell women to take it all the way through from the first trimester. In the UK they are much more cautious and tell women to wait until the last trimester. With a history of miscarriage, you definately shouldn't take it before the last trimester and probably not before your MW gives you the OK so if MWs are advising 35 weeks, probably best to wait until then.

Baby will be full term at 37 weeks so you can definately take it then.

If you research it on the web, there are all sorts sites giving advice on its use.

ajm200 · 03/09/2008 17:00

I took it early last time and still had to be induced but my labour was fairly fast. 7 hours for a first baby, I didn't have to push for long and no real afterpains. Didn't bring on labour though, I had to be induced. The MW also commented on how fast my womb shrank back into my pelvis.

bethoo · 03/09/2008 17:15

cranberry leaf actually strengthens the uterus and helps with its elasticity and tone so helps with labour and also as mentioned before it helps the uterus contract back to normal so that on top of bf should mean i am back to normal within weeks >

sambrads · 03/09/2008 17:34

i was on another thread and a woman was saying that she gave herself a sweep??
would any of you consider doing this if were full term???
i swear when i got mine done by doctor it was so sore !!! before he started he said if you start feeling sick please tell me and i will stop .
i remember thinking why would i feel sick but when he started i seriously thought that he had his ahnd on my stomach!!!

can someone explain to me how 37 weeks is classed as full term and why we have to wait til 40 weeks???

think im ready for the baby coming now

i to drank raspberry leaf tea but ended up being induced my labour was classed as 7 hours and i ahd no stitches and healed really quick

star6 · 03/09/2008 18:09

Bethoo where do you get cranberry leaf? I want that, too!!!

star6 · 03/09/2008 18:11

So people usually care for their "lady garden" (cute term!! is that a british expression or an MN expression?) while pregnant?
I gave up once I couldn't see it anymore... i guess we should get to work on it for the birth?

ajm200 · 03/09/2008 18:11

I always thought cranberry tablets were for UTIs rather than toning the womb so I'm interested to find out more too.

loulou33 · 03/09/2008 19:07

Hi all,

Twinkly hope all is well, makes my possible 4 day stay in hosp look like a walk in the park!!

Went to see consultant again who said blood flow still ok so baby not in severely anaemic range. has decided to see me on Weds next week to check if cervix is ready enough to try one go of induction, if not is c-section on FRIDAY 12th (luckily not friday 13th )

Desparately trying to get child care sorted although my mother is being very reticent about coming to stay (christ i'm only having your grandchild!!!!) . My MIL has offered bless but as she is still recovering from fall i'm not sure she's up to a lively 2 1/2 year old.

Have posted a message asking for advice on gettign cervix ready by next week so consultant will let me try induction (if not ready enough, he won't even entertain the idea) thanks ajm for posting, any other suggestions gratefully received. DH being typical man saying jsut have the c-section so we all know where we stand - cheers (i said something along the lines of well you're not the one have your stomach ripped open and being unable to drive etc for 6 weeks - sod).

Sorry for ranting - off to put ds to bed..

ajm200 · 03/09/2008 19:17

Loulou, when I was induced last time my cervix was 1.5cm which was much better than when the MW checked me a few days before. I got labour started last time with lots of walking (not fun on crutches), lots of pineapple (3 in one sitting, can't stand it now), raspberry leaf, lots of stair climbing and got hubby to help too.. Guess that accounts for the change. My fear of hospitals stopped it again though.

As this isn't your first pregnancy maybe your cervix has already started to change. Dr said mine had when I was hospitalised at 29 weeks so fingers crossed for you.

loulou33 · 03/09/2008 20:11

I'm hoping so too. Was vv busy yesterday scrubbing carpet in baby's room, putting cot together, luggin hoover around etc etc and have felt lots of pressure. I am vv active person and can't bear to sit still so will keep this up til next weds.

I forgot to ask today if head was engaged as they did check. DS at nursery tomorrow so will go for long walk and get some rapsberry leaf tablets (i have the tea but i think the tablets are supposed to be better) and some evening primrose oil tablets. i don't think there is much else i can do (apart from sex and pineapple) and i just have to hope it all works.

CantSleepWontSleep · 03/09/2008 20:16

Sorry loulou, got no idea. I did nothing to help things along last time, and just hoped for the best.

Was supposed to be having reflexology tonight, but woman just phoned to say that she's not working til next week (had forgotten she'd got me or would have called earlier) - she's had a rotten summer. Was supposed to be on holiday the other week, but her brother died (had been ill for a good while) so she's been trying to get over that. The bad news from my point of view is that she's rearranged her holiday, and will now be away for my appointment 2 days before my due date, which we were planning to use to try and induce me naturally .

OP posts:
loulou33 · 03/09/2008 20:24

That's a bugger csws. Reflexology is supposed to really help bring labour on. Could you find another one???

I didn't do anything last time either apart from rapsberry leaf tea and ds was born on due date, labour very quick but the little bugger got stuck!!

Can't believe some of you are still able to trim your lady garden, i haven't seen mine for about 4 months...although consultant will be poking and prodding down there next week so i wonder if i should add this on my still very long to do list...

star6 · 03/09/2008 20:25

I just want to post so we're closer to 1000 and can get a new thread... is it really sad that I'm looking forward to a new thread? ha ha!! I have no life!

How do you get a visit at home? I'd like them to visit me at work... Getting so tired of rearranging things at work and driving to dr/mw appointments for 15 minute check up then back.

Wouldn't that be a lovely world, though... where doctors and midwives come to us, wherever we are... instead of us travelling to them?

sambrads · 03/09/2008 21:09

why not try doing your own sweep loulou???

sambrads · 03/09/2008 21:12

do you think we could maybe be going on to a new thread soon??

my lady garden cannot be seen so i will just leave it with ds i made sure ias waxed but very sore so dont think i will bother this time

CantSleepWontSleep · 03/09/2008 21:13

New Thread especially to make Star a happy woman!

jenwa · 03/09/2008 21:13

loulou did you take notes to consultant as they should document in there if babys head engaged? Mine ndocument everything in the section where it says your BP, appt details, how baby is lying and babys heart beat etc.

star I would like to live in that world too

bethoo · 03/09/2008 21:15

str6 raspberry leaf capsules get from chemist or better still a health food store like Holland and Barratt usually next to pregnancy supplements. cranberry juice is good for cystitis and other UTIs.
